As a couple in our mid 30s, we really enjoyed the vibes at this pub/dive bar. It's a casual spot with all of the classics, nothing fancy. They have both indoor and outdoor tables and we were able to grab our own little secluded spot in the window. As quite a few reviews have mentioned, they're very dog friendly. Overall customer service is great. Bartenders are friendly, and do a great job. Decent pours for cocktails. There are limited beers on draft, but they do have a nice selection to choose from (tap, bottled, can). Smaller sized pub that welcomes dogs and people alike, super friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Sports playing. Biggest down side from my experience was; what I can only presume to be the bar owner's dog, urinating inside on the floor. The (presumed) owner of the dog (and bar) was oblivious/ignored it all. The bartender, when notified initially, ignored the wet floor when we called it out and dismissed it as a water leak. He later came out after the second report of wet floor, and mopped/sanitized the area where it was wet. Several people walked through the "wet spot" and went throughout the space. Whether it was dog urine or water, it is still a wet floor. Please note, I personally witnessed the dog actively urinating when she came over to me for attention because she wasn't getting it from her owner. Final opinion/review from me on this space is please go and support, the staff are attentive and do a great job, but also consider it is potentially may not be sanitary throughout. read more

It's somehow gotten worse. The entire establishment smells of urine and raw sewage. There are literal digs urinating on orioles belongings. The selection of beer is extremely limited, the service was terrible as expected and the clientele was a wasteland of degenerates who may or may not be homeless. Best late night bar in SB especially Thursdays and Fridays. Best place to watch soccer, no contest! A Manchester United pub but all very welcome. Best pub to take your dog. You can bring your own food and the drinks must be the most affordable in town. A few outdoor seats on Ortega which is a nice place to park yourself with a pint around sunset. I enjoy a dive bar with classic rock playing and a game of darts. It wasn't packed for a 5 de Mayo night which was surprising but awesome. I ordered a house marg on the rocks with salt. It's so cute that Casa Amigos is considered top shelf but that's fine because it was so cheap and not the usual $16+ for another well drink at any other state street bar. My buddy ordered mezcal on the rocks. Total was $22 and super fair. The bartender super sweet. There was plenty of seating. The bathrooms are funny. Not the most PC but still funny. You might be confused as to what door to walk into if you aren't straight. I enjoyed my time here so I'd be back. I didn't care much for the marg. Awesome Dive bar, full of really friendly locals & their dogs. Proper British ex-pat pub, cool decor, soccer games on the TV, not overly noisy, well priced drinks. Was chatting with a lovely woman there when another patron walked up, overheard us discussing being from Seattle and he handed me a brand new Mariners Jacket... It was very surreal. They also have a nice outdoor patio which is shaded and has heaters, and some dart boards inside. Overall I had a great time, and highly recommend it. read more

Although The Press Room is masking itself here on yelp as a "sports bar" - which is what drove me there - it is an entirely different and better genre. Think instead, intimate British Pub with friendly staff, owner, dogs and patrons and you'll get a far better idea of why you should drink at The Press Room . In the neighborhood and needing to secure a viewing spot for the NBA finals, The Press Room came up as a place to do so and it is. The TVs were even turned up so that the play-by-play could be both viewed and heard. A playful server brought over two mystery IPAs to see which was preferred, refusing to reveal which was which before decisions were made. I like a pub game and a playful server. The bar dog wandered around. Other dogs too. Someone brought in food from a nearby restaurant and consumed it at the bar (The Press Room itself serves no food); this is allowed. The owner stopped by with a greeting before departing for the evening. A fellow patron plopped down and chatted with me in a friendly, non-creepy way. If I lived nearby, this might very well be my home away from home. Don't judge a book by its cover or a business by its yelp definition. The Press Room is a fun pub in which to enjoy drink, sports, dogs, and people. read more

Small neighborhood pub for the local crowd. You don't see too many of these old-school places on lower State Street, an area which caters to the younger, rowdier nightclub scene. Don't get me wrong, there was a customer yelling obnoxiously at the Dolphins game playing on the television, but the overall vibe was relaxed. This bar is small, dark, and offers a lot of charming kitsch like the red Christmas lights and the beer selection on a smeared chalkboard. A no-frills place for sure, but that's how many of us like it. The bar was filled with a crowd of regulars who all knew each other by name. My beer was good and the bartender was efficient. There were slow pockets of the evening where he'd disappear for 5 minutes at a time but it didn't affect me. I know that this place caters to the soccer-watching crowd and I believe that they will open at crazy early hours if there's a live FIFA World Cup game airing. I felt incredibly bad since my friend wasn't drinking responsibly and ended up throwing up, and in a small bar like this it's definitely an issue that needs to have clear and professional protocol for. Instead of being met by a hostile woman with long blonde hair repeatedly telling me how "disgusting" my friend was for doing something she has more than likely done at some point in her life, a stern "you have to pay the $50 clean up fee and leave" would have sufficed in my opinion, especially if you work at a bar and have had experiences with this type of issue. The lack of professionalism and empathy was astounding. I understand the frustration but honestly I was trying to make sure that my friend did not require medical attention. The cleaning fee was 100% justified and fair and I understand dealing with human messes is awful but in this case some professionalism and cooperation from personnel would have really helped out. TLDR: small understaffed bar is busy and clearly not capable of handling common issues which arise when you work at an establishment that primarily sells drinks that can make people throw up but obviously this is a lesson not to over do it and to drink responsibly bc people will shame and call you derogatory things because you happen to inconvenience them and their ability to make money off of alcohol lol read more

Honestly today was my first time visiting the bar and I'm highly disappointed with the overall lack of professionalism with this "bar" not only did the staff take forever with delivering my drinks for my party they were extremely rude, un-cooperative and had a general feel that I was an inconvenience to them even though I'm trying to have a fun night? So I'm originally from the Chicago area, and my husband is a big soccer fan. He even "found" our first apartment which was conveniently one block away from one of the biggest soccer bars in Chicago. Came here on Thursday Oct. 7th for an art show. Whoever was working the bar during those hours should not work customer service. Upon asking for a glass of water, the bartender asked to see my ID even though I was not even drinking. Since I understand it is a bar, I showed him my ID right away. He rejected it because my driver's license is from Peru and then made racist remarks along with an attempt to communicate with me in Spanish. He then went to the back, hit his dab pen, and told me to help myself with a water jug that had no cups. When I asked him about the lack of cups, he just said I could use the dog bowl. read more

Small, no frills bar with decent staff and great prices! The Press Room is a great place to go if you're on a budget and seeking anonymity. In my experience, it's not the type of atmosphere where you're going to meet new people and make friends, as there is definitely a culture to the joint that breathes hipster "insiders' club." Newbies stick out like a sore thumb. Kudos to the female bartender who was super attentive and friendly. Thanks to her I didn't have to wait too long while the other bartender chatted with his buddies. I also enjoyed the diverse variety of music playing and the NBA games on the flat screens. The Press Room isn't a bar--it's a religion. No dancing area, no nasty appetizers, no barrages of sorority girls falling all over themselves...it's truly the polar opposite of the sb bar scene. The beers on tap are amazing, the bartenders are seasoned pros, and the other patrons are actually interesting to talk to. Press also has personality, something most other sb bars are sorely lacking. They feature amazing artists, will open up as early as 4 or 5 am for EPL games, and will even order you food from Dargans across the street and let you eat it in there. Do you rember the news reels of the stack of Newspapers being thrown to the sidewalk from the truck. It was the fastest and first glimpse people would get of the news back in the day. Then Radio threatened the news paper, then TV and now the biggest threat, the internet. When the Press Room opened it was named as such because it was close to the SB News Press. Back then the News Press was a formidable paper. This bar was a watering hole for the writers and the staff who worked long and late hours meeting late deadlines and labouring to get the paper out in time. I wonder if the two or three remaining reporters of our paper-thin pathetic paper still go there? Hmmm. If they were to name the bar today, what would it be called? Hmmm. It is an honest bar! Good drinks and they only play sports that seriously injure people! They seem to prefer sports where the athletes don't wear any protective gear and men are men! If your team has the word "United" in the name all the better. If the Super Bowl was to be broadcast at the same time as a club level soccer game in the Ukraine my guess is that the soccer game would be on the TV. Drinks are good and the bartender is cool. This bar is mostly a tiny hallway. I mean that in a good way, like you're crammed into a party with a bunch of cool people and you HAVE to talk to them because they're right in your face. Drinks are strong and reasonably priced (I think? I'm not sure, I think my friend might have closed my tab for me because i was outside talking to a GENTLEMAN). Speaking of that, there were some nice-looking gentlemen there if you are a lady who feels like getting a good flirt in. I recommend the tried-and-true tactic of turning around and saying "hi, I'm ____!" For some reason that works? I don't know. How does one do lady things? Anyway. The bar. We sat and drank for like 3 solid hours, having lovely conversations with various strangers about various things.
