I've had De Los Altos Grill bookmarked for a long time. There aren't too many good taqueria's in Milpitas so my expectations of this place was pretty low. Boy was I wrong though, S/O and I like this place! It's spacious and clean. The staff are super nice and the food is pretty damn good! As Dan C. wrote: "Taco Thursday's. Four tacos $5.... Nuff said! Found this place by accident as we cruised around looking for another restaurant (which will not be named!) It is located in a small strip mall with many other restaurant choices. My friend and I decided to go into each restaurant and check out the prices and menus first. We started at De Los Altos Grill, then a long noodle restaurant (that was closed on Tuesdays), a Curry Pizza place (interesting and good lunch deals), a Vietnamese noodle joint, and a Filipino restaurant. Long story short, we went back for a Mexican lunch. I wanted enchiladas but I didn't want the huge three enchilada combo platter for $12.99. I asked the nice lady behind the counter if I could order a la carte. She said one carnitas enchilada would be $2, rice & beans, $3, and salad, $2. My order came to $7.56! Each individual order also includes a free basket of chips and salsa!! My friend ordered one fish taco and one enchilada. Her order came to $5.43! The food was delicious and satisfying. We definitely got our moneys worth. As we left the establishment, we saw a sandwich board advertising their "Taco Thursday" deal; 2 tacos for $3, or 4 tacos for $5!!! instead of Taco Tuesday, it's TACO THURSDAY ~~ great deal and we come here on thursdays every other week xD Taco Thursdays: 4 tacos for $5 !! But limited to only 4 meat options: carnitas, al pastor, chorizo, and chicken. The al pastor and carnitas are the best, chorizo is ok but oily, and we don't usually get chicken (kinda dry). Also comes with free small bag of chips & salsa. TIP: get/ save orange sauce from other taquerias and drizzle this on your tacos...bombbb!!! We pretty much stick to the tacos so can't say much for the other dishes, but this place is pretty authentic and has many mexican dishes. There's a salsa bar (pre-covid) and you know it's authentic too when they got the pickled carrots/ jalapenos. For drinks, we occasionally get their horchata or mango agua fresca, they do have mexican coca cola and jarritos too. The salsa they serve you is not salsa at all with the chips taste like ketchup and onions and green splats added to it !! Don't recommend. Prices are higher than nearby places. Food is bland and lacks flavor. I got the fish tacos & it literally looks like they just threw everything in the plate. The fish had no seasoning, was just grilled. Lettuce looked old. They didn't provide any type of sauce for the top or traditional Mayo/cream sauce. Disappointed. Save your money. This is my go-to spot for fresh aqua fresca! They usually have cantaloupe flavor which is my favorite, it's so refreshing! Instead of taco Tuesdays they have taco Thursdays. Always so delicious and fresh, and the staff is very friendly. The meat is very juicy and the taco toppings add a lot of flavor and texture.

First and last time in there. Nobody was wearing masks or gloves (maybe the cook was wearing gloves, I couldn't see). Young guy bagging up to-go orders pulled up his t-shirt and wiped his face, then back to bagging. Luckily, my burrito was bagged by the girl who was also taking orders and running the register. About the burrito, the only good thing to say, it was big, but not all that tasty. Even the carnitas was bland. Definitely not worth the $14 and change. Happened to try this place because it was nearby and at an easy location. I got the California Burrito w/ Al Pastor. The burrito was huge, and had a lot of contents in it. I thought the meat tasted good, and the tortilla was very crispy! Who could say no to Taco Thursday!? Their 4 for $5 is a great deal and plenty of food. They don't skimp on the meat and there is plenty of flavor. I honestly haven't been here before the quarantine, but walked past this place one day and have been back several times. Got the shrimp burrito here. It was $8.99. I generally enjoyed it but there were some things I think they can improve upon. Pros: 1) Pretty decent amount of shrimp 2) Good flavor: It has some kind of salsa inside the burrito so I guess its a lil diff from some of the places Ive had. 3) Burrito itself was pretty big. Like a log and I think it weighed like 2-3 pounds lol Cons: 1) The burrito and the ingredients came out lukewarm. I think i woulda enjoyed it more if it was hotter. 2) No salsa bar. You gotta ask them for extra salsa if you want to put it on ur burrito since one salsa packet isnt really enough. 3) For some reason all the shrimp was on one side and the rice on the other. I guess they layered it so when it was rolled up it came out like that. I think a more even distribution woulda been better but I guess im jus nitpicking. On a side note, the salsa tastes like the tomatoey stuff u get at the market. I enjoyed it but it didnt seem like the kinds u get at most taquerias. Overall Id probably give this place more of a 3.5. But the last four have been horrible today I ordered my last order I asked for a torta no sour cream or lettuce very simple what comes on my torta sour cream and lettuce not the first time this has happened had it ordered on doordash. The sandwich comes it is burnt to a crisp full of sour cream and lettuce. So now I get in my car and drive 10 miles to take this garbage back they remake my sandwich he recooks the steak that was in it to where it's burnt and crisp so there you go if businesses would just stay consistent they would make a lot of money sad. read more

The food is okay, nothing overly special. I've stopped in twice this week because it's convenient to do so. The reason for my review, though is because I discovered they charged me extra for paying with a credit card. That used to be illegal in California so I might check into that. Still love this strip mall little restaurant. For a quick friends hang out dinner, decided to order and pick up the order of: Flautas plate w/ standard rice and refried beans- my go to dish. I love the soft crispness, good seasoning on rice and beans. I like the addition of a fresh tomato slitting as a garnish. Makes me feel I'm getting a vegetable lol. Carne asada fries- never had these till this time. I was rather suprised I really liked it. It eats like a huge meal. Definetly to be shared by 2-3 ppl. Carne asada was tender and not salty and fries were lightly golden. Shrimp cocktail Mexican style- I love Mexican shrimp cocktail and this does not dissapoint. It's different from traditional American shrimp cocktail of shrimp and horseradish like cocktail sauce. Mexican style is more brothy and no shell shrimp in this tomato based broth w/ Mexican seasonings and cilantro and other vege goodies like avocado, cucumbers, etc. It can be enjoyed warm or cold and with crushed saltine crackers and a lime or lemon wedge. Free chips and salsa- standard triangular corn chips and medium spicy salsa was in bag as a complimentsry starter. It's not self serve. The staff gives you the chips/salsa. Small beef burrito- hmmm. This should be called Chico-Ito size. For the price, it was way to small. It was not filled with fillers tho. it was meat of choice, Mexican rice and I think beans. But a big appetite man would think it was an appetizer, not a stomach filling burrito. It should be called Chiquito burrito-Ito. Flavors were good tho but easily inhabitable. Cantaloupe water- it was refreshing, but it was pulp filled. Not my fav, but tolerable for a few sips. I do favor this place compared to the long standing Las Vegas taqueria a few blocks down the way. It's less wait time and dishes do not dissapoint. They take phone orders too. read more

Good food, but watch out for the credit card surcharge of 5%. I had been buying from them for a while now and recently I checked the receipts and for an $80+ purchase, it added an extra $4. This is probably my favorite Mexican spot ever. They always serve everything fresh and quality is consistent. My favorite out of everything is their super burrito. No joke, it's about 5-7 lbs. I have never finished their super burrito in one sitting, but it's so good. My second favorite is the super suiza (super quesadilla) with shrimp. They pack so much shrimp in there, i'm getting a piece of shrimp every bite, which is awesome. And their horchata is super delicious as well. If I ever catch this place on a Thursday, it's 4 tacos for $5. Can't beat it. Sure there are other places that sell $1 tacos, but the quality of their food is always up there. Only downfall about this place now is that they no longer do online ordering. You can still order through the phone, but I miss just going there and picking up my food and be on my way. read more

The food is really good, but the service is terrible... I have been eating there every day for the past week for my lunch break. Everyday I order the same exact thing, but every other day I'm charged a different price.. The lady who works the register Tuesday night 9pm spent 10 mins arguing with me about over charging me.. Once somebody else explained to her that she was wrong, she apologized and walked off... Do I get the money back that you over charged me? A drink on the house? Anything? No!!
