The portions on entrees are massive. It took everything I had to finish the food. I also enjoyed the Sunday brunch so that I can try a bit of everything. When they are busy, it is hard to get a hold of any of the staff. They also don't tell you everything you need to know like what to do if you want to partake in Taco Tuesday. I didn't know that it's just for a certain part of the restaurant, not everyone. Staff also didn't inform my party that Happy Hour is just at the bar, not the rest of the restaurant

Ugh I would have given El Torito five stars because the ambiance, food and server were outstanding. The low score is due to what was observed at the bar. Bartender mixing drink for an employee in a paper cup. He hands paper cup to employee, she takes a sip and hands it back to tender. Tender adds more alcohol, takes a straw for a taste, then he proceeds to pour contents of paper cup into shaker, (remember employee took a prior sip) then pours in paper cup. Employee takes a sip, gives thumbs up and goes out the side back door. It's my opinion that it's not good practice to have anyone taste test from a paper cup or any cup then return to bartender to add more alcohol and use shaker after a taste test. Disgusting! I don't know what protocol is but drinking adult beverages on one's break is questionable. And yes, she was observed drinking, eating and then coming back for her duties. It's Happy Hour.

Came here for lunch buffet on a Monday and it was not busy at all. You can order a la carte as usual or do the buffet. Lunch buffet is $20 Mon-Fri, beverages are not included. It is mainly a taco/salad bar. Not a big selection of food. The taco bar includes freshly made tortillas and choice of chicken, beef, pork meats. You then dress it up yourself with beans, rice, chopped vegetables, and salsa. They also have chicken and vegetable soup, cheese enchiladas, melons, and 2 dessert options (flan and arroz con Leche). The food quality was pretty good overall, but salty. They bring fresh chips and salsa to your table. Clean, large restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. Plenty of parking. Service was fine, dirty plate were cleared pretty quickly. Overall, it's good value and worth a visit to get your taco fix

We wanted to go somewhere for brunch after Palm Sunday service. Even though we hadn't eaten at El Torito for a long time, it was close. The restaurant was bustling when we got there. No parking near the restaurant, but lots in the shopping center. It took a while before the hostess showed up and the server missed us being seated. Once I told her and asked for water, she was very attentive the rest of our meal. Our mimosa glasses were constantly filled. She brought us a plate of cinnamon pancakes. The brunch buffet was an incredible array of food. We visited one table and had a couple desserts. We tried as much dishes as we could pile onto our plates. Too much food for us to eat in one visit. We will have to go back to try the other buffet options.

I love coming here for happy hour!! Great appetizer and drink deals. The sangria was a standout - definitely go for happy hour, but make sure to sit in the bar area to order off the happy hour menu! Great vibes, fantastic staff and service, nice ambiance, and good parking options!

We came here Saturday morning and had an amazing experience. The service was excellent, and our server Sandy was really nice, friendly, helpful, and had so much patience with us. She truly made the whole experience even better. This is a Mexican restaurant with a brunch buffet, and it honestly surprised me because I thought the brunch was Sundays only. I originally came just wanting pancakes, but the buffet completely exceeded my expectations. They had birria, rice, refried beans, tortillas, enchiladas, Sweet Corn Tomalito, bacon, sausage, waffles, pancakes, an omelette bar, and so much more. They even had conchas, and everything tasted fresh. For drinks, they had fresh orange juice, apple juice, jicama, along with self serve hot chocolate, coffee, and water. They also had a chocolate fondue fountain with fruit, and this wasn't even Sunday brunch. The inside was very nice and welcoming. Overall, everything was great, especially the service. Sandy was amazing. If you haven't tried it yet, definitely give it a try. We'll absolutely be back.

I always have a great experience whenever I patron this location. Stop in and see for yourself! This review is more in reference to the bar experience. I'm one of those that prefers to socialize, so often times as of late, I choose to sit at the bar with no issues whatsoever. Every bartender here is great, but Juan, in particular is exceptional. From his many years of expertise in crafting the perfect libatIon, whether it's on the menu or not, to his magnetic personality and smile, if ever you're having a bad day, come see Juan and he will fix it right up for you! He's great at reading the room and catering each patron's experience accordingly. He loves what he does, and it's clearly evident with every interaction he engages in with everyone. In addition, Juan's energy is always positive and not only is that rare, but very much welcomed especially on a consistent basis. Happy hour is every day from 3 to 9, however, I believe Juan works earlier in the day for the most part. Sit at the bar and he will make you feel right at home. And let him know that Jeanie sent you.

Sergio is a awesome waiter He deserves 5 stars by himself, super friendly, great service making sure that you got everything you need plus the macho combo looked better and bigger in person than the actual picture. Usually, it's actually the other way around. The margaritas, and great house beer, IPA I haven't been there for quite some time, but I moved there nearby now so I have to go there much more often now i'll definitely ask Sergio if I can

Birthday brunch, illemda is an amazing server, i turned 31 and they sang me happy birthday and brought me bottomless mimosas, i come here all the time, the menudo here for brunch is great and their happy hour is a deal to steal. If youre in the bay area it is insane to not take advantage of it for the rewards program. Every time we come here the bartenders are nice and attentive. I. Dont normally sit outside but it was warm because of the heaters and the servers were amazing

We had a great lunch at El Torito in Milpitas today. Our server, Jaquelin, was fantastic. She was energetic, happy, and incredibly attentive throughout the whole meal. She checked in on us several times, made sure everything was right, and you could tell she genuinely cared that we had a good experience. The atmosphere really added to the experience. The restaurant has that classic, authentic Mexican restaurant feel. Warm, lively, and full of character. It felt welcoming the moment we walked in, and it made the lunch feel a little more special than your average casual stop. Great service like that really makes a difference. Jaquelin made the whole lunch feel welcoming and easy. Definitely coming back.

Came here recently to meet up with a co-worker. El Torito has always been a popular place amongst coworkers for businesses in the area. Apparently, their lunch time Buffet is a popular option. However, on this most recent visit, we ordered from the menu. Everything comes as very large portions, so be prepared to take home enough for maybe another meal or plan to share with someone. Service is good. Food is good with nice presentation, but nothing spectacular. I would have preferred the carne asada burrito to be a bit less spicy for it to be more palatable. I definitely prefer the more authentic hole-in-the-wall local taquerias.

Thank you El Torito- good food and drinks for a Sunday Happy Hour! Garcias to ANNA for her fun and friendly service. She recommended the Cadillac Margarita so we ordered 2 which paired perfectly with their chips and salsa. That shot of Grand Marnier hits the spot - ANNA knows what she's talking about. Ask her for a recommendation!!

So it was an impromptu dinner take out night. I am a vegetarian so when I went there they suggested spinach enchiladas which was amazing. My husband had a client meet that afternoon so he just went for some nachos and dip. Overall food was hot and fresh. Everything was packed so well that it was easy to eat even in car lol. Even on a Thu night the place was buzzing. So many people at the bar and the restaurant was also almost half full. I have been here before and find it very convenient and comforting. Vibes are just perfect for a date night. Also food is so delish and fresh. Also servers are quick and efficient and knowledgeable. I had a fun time having food from here.

The place turned out great with the old fashioned retro red color style interior and the experience was wonderful. Good vibes and positive feelings when walking into it. My lady server provided excellent service and the Hispanic male worker was quick and efficient. Place is clean and menu had good variety of selections. Breakfast is served all day while lunch items start at 11am. My breakfast was very fulfilling and total was $25.30 with everything included. I paid in cash and tipped them $5. Loved my sweet lady server. There was another older woman at the cash register. She's a local as well. I really enjoyed the stop. I had the Fajitas Omelette breakfast and the steak meats in it were very generous. Delicious breakfast exactly as I had expected. My onions green peppers potatoes were perfect with a side of salsa. Sourdough toast was delicious with the garlic butter taste. I really came for my favorite hot chocolate with whipped cream in the morning. I do miss big American breakfasts, especially in these old fashioned and traditional retro spots. Love it. Why didn't I visit this place much earlier? Because they're always busy or full inside and the plaza parking is usually congested with heavy traffic here. Overall, I love the vibes and the service. It started with the barbacoa chilaquiles. When I saw that that the chilaquiles in the menu had habaneros on it, I knew I had found my place. I often cook at home with ghost and scorpion peppers, which are not traditionally found in restaurants, but they've done some pretty amazing improvisation when I've asked to make it work. One time, I recall getting the chilaquiles and asking for extra habaneros and asking if their chef had a secret hot sauce that was stronger than "white people spicy." Miriam brought me a little ramekin of a pepper sauce puree that the chef prepared - and it was EPIC. I don't ask for that every time, but you know whoever was on the line took the request seriously and actually had some fun making my mouth burn. I can't tell you how appreciative I am of their willingness to "play" in the kitchen. Today, I went for breakfast and ordered the Carne En Su Jugo for my first time. Not just here - first time ever eating it anywhere. I had totally forgotten to ask them to make it spicy! I asked Miriam if there was anything they could do to spice it up. She assured me they could. Then I received it. And I tasted it. And it was cathartic. The chefs prepared a PERFECTLY spicy stew, and I downed that whole thing in 7 minutes. It was delicious, put some sweat on my brow, and left me feeling more than satisfied with my meal. I love this place! Miriam is always great every time I've been there. I will continue supporting this business as long as they keep doing business. Please give my compliments to the chefs again. Their creativity keeps me coming back for spicy treats!

Bonus points for having fun seasonal choices. The kids menu has good options but it is kinda pricey for being the kids menu. Bonus points because they use handmade tortillas for the kids taco. They also offer unique things like a breakfast molcajete and a mini birria pambazo. We didn't try those but it sounded intriguing. Also so many drink choices if you're looking for a michelada or mimosa. Cute vibes inside & love the plates and ceramics they use. It is small though so wouldn't really accommodate a large group easily, especially if it's busy. There is parking but even though it wasn't busy it was hard to find a spot. All that said, it was a very mid experience. The meat for the kids birria and the chilaquiles was more on the dry side. Same for the rice. The Grinch milkshake was good and cute. The tamarindo mimosa was good after we asked for extra tamarindo. Initially it was very heavy on the champagne. The country potatoes were yummy. The gingerbread pancakes were also dry & didn't taste like gingerbread. Also was sad that they were out of the advertised Holiday drinks: chocolate abuelita and atole de mazapán. I ordered the hot chocolate in its place but even though it looked cute, it tasted watery. I came here specifically for the Holiday items so that's why I was so disappointed with that. Service was okay. Our server was friendly when we interacted with her but it was very limited. Pretty much when she took our order & then when I flagged her down to return my pancakes & hot chocolate. She was very understanding though about that so I appreciated that. Overall, if they made adjustments to their flavor & quality it could be really good. From this visit I would say their Mexican food is better than their American food. I'd try again in the future, just not any time soon.

My country fried steak was perfectly cooked & flavored and the gravy was exactly right. The hash browns were top notch, grilled crunchy outside & not at all greasy or oily. The wheat toast was exactly as simple as it should be & delicious with butter & strawberry jam. My scrambled eggs left a little to be desired but there's hot sauce on the table to fix that right up. My lunch neighbor had the Ulitmate Fried Chicken Sandwich (pic) and he likes it so much gets it every time he eats here. And the coffee? The coffee comes from Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans. The plates in my pics look small but in fact are large plates & might be too much food for some people. The food & service is great but the prices are a bit stiff for lunchtime however the comfort food would be right at home in any Memphis diner.

When we pointed it out, the waiter casually admitted they already knew about the issue and were "waiting for new plates to arrive." If you KNOW your plates are damaged, why are you still serving food on them? They offered to replace the meals, but we were already halfway through eating and had our 3-month-old baby with us, so sitting there longer was not practical. We asked for some form of compensation considering the situation, but both the waitress and the manager flat out refused. The manager's attitude was dismissive and unapologetic, as if serving food on broken dishes was completely normal. When I said I didn't feel comfortable paying full price for such poor and unsafe service, the waitress threatened to call the cops. Imagine threatening customers instead of taking responsibility for your own restaurant's negligence. In the end we were forced to pay the full bill for a terrible experience. Horrible customer service, zero accountability, and complete disregard for customer safety. Will never return and would strongly advise others to avoid this place unless you enjoy eating off broken plates and being treated disrespectfully.

I highly recommend…read moreit for people who don't want to deal with the line that understandably goes out the door. The food is worth the wait. Don't sleep on the black pepper sausage danish: the croissant dough is crisp and flaky, and doesn't get soggy when baked around the sausage. It's comparable in execution to the Croissant Hot Dog served at Dominique Ansel Las Vegas (in Caesar's Palace), but at a way more accessible price point. Which isn't to say this place is cheap; like many artisanal bakeries in California, it comes with a premium price tag, but at least it's not Dominique Ansel pricy. Croissante's croissant dough baked goods (viennoiserie) is pun-intended "proof" that you get what you pay for. The dining space is limited and lively. Conversing is a little tough, but if you just need a place to sit while eating, it's just right. Extra special shout out this time to Dill who had informed me the fried chicken dishes today would be an hour and a half wait. After deciding there wasn't anything I wanted more than the Fried Chicken and Spiced Croffle (croissant dough baked in a waffle iron) and was happy to wait, they were nice enough to check in with the kitchen and see if it could be made sooner than that. I didn't expect to be accommodated, so I was happy they were able to do that. You get two chicken thighs and croffles per order. It's enough for two light eaters to share.

The feeling is very "leave quickly". It is overcrowded and not an inviting place to stay and enjoy your pastries. The line to get your pastries is also pretty long. It's best to do takeout from this place.

I love having breakfast at Bill's Cafe. Unfortunately, this location is not the same experience as the two other locations I've tried. The hostess told us they had no tables, and we could sit at the bar. My daughter stated she would rather be seated at a table, and we could wait. Three customers were walking past us, and the hostess said we could have their table. We were immediately seated in a booth, and we noticed there were at least five empty tables around us, peculiar. Whatever, we had time to look and decide what we each wanted. When our waiter came for our orders, he was quick and efficient. We didn't have to wait long for our meals and drinks to arrive. We generally liked our food, but the country potatoes were a little too firm, and seemed like they weren't cooked all the way through. We had to wait awhile for refills on our drinks. We caught the hostess walking by, and asked if we could get refills and napkins. She said okay, but brought only napkins, and we waited some more for refills on coffee and water. The hostess seemed a bit brusque, on the other hand our waiter was, quick and professional. I will drive a little further to the Alameda location, because the Newbury location is not as great, or team conscious as the other location.
