Dry tamales in the trash from Carniceria Lopez.
    Javier J.

I've been purchasing tamales here from Carniceria Lopez for some time now because the moisture of the masa taste and the choice of ingredients in the sauces. Made the tamales taste better than their competition down the road. I did mind paying $30 a dozen which is substantially higher than the competition. I regret to inform you after purchasing tamales on 11/11/24 this was not the case. What a difference in the flavor! Dry masa and the chicken tamales had hardly any sauce which made them taste even dryer. Unfortunately something has changed in the preparation. Just not the same. I will now have to find another place for tamales

I had to come here because I was late getting to La Esperanza, but it was a good thing that they were sold out of what I needed down the street. Otherwise, I wouldn't have come down here. There's a little market and carniceria here, but I only went to the carniceria side, so the review will only reflect that part of the premises. I was quickly helped by a very kind employee, and she fulfilled my order with swiftness. She made sure what I had asked for was what I really wanted, confirming what I wanted in English. They had a variety of cooked meats readily available to grab and go with, and I got chicharron and carnitas. They were solid, with my preferring the carnitas over the chicharron. I wouldn't hesitate to make a purchase here again. Both selections of meat were good. Were they excellent, 5-star quality meat? I would love to give that answer confidently, but I can't. I'd love to try again when it's fresher made, but I came late into the day/evening. Despite that, they were really good. I'll have to come again earlier in the day on another occasion. I might try some of the prepared dishes next time, and hopefully the same kind of experience will be reflected.

The meet here never fails to disappoint! They have all types of cuts for any occasion from a small to a big get together. Everyone that works in the carneceria knows their stuff. There are other big supermarkets in the area with lower prices but they don't have the quality like they do here. They also got a hot food area where everything is made fresh. Perfect when you're on the go. My favorite to get is the asada burrito with the red salsa. They load it up with meat. They have a little market as well with fresh veggies, bread, and even tamales! It's all go for all your needs.

Shrimp tostada is decent. Tender shrimp albeit kinda bland (nothing lime slices can't fix though). A bit disappointed on the bag of tortilla chips and tub of salsa roja that I also got. Supposedly the tortilla chips are house-made but they don't have the thick crunchiness that fresh tortilla chips have. Honestly they're like unflavored Doritos. Kinda stale too. The salsa roja has a strange sweetness like as if conventional hot sauce was added to it (it's also thicker than the salsa roja that I'm used to). Not my jam. Eh, overall the place is okay, but it's hard to strongly recommend this spot when there are a bunch of Mexican spots in the area, some that have better offerings.

Hands down, HANDS DOWN!!! The best burrito I've had from a carnicería!!! The asada was tasty, the salsa on point, the rice and beans were cooked to perfection. It tasted like something my momma would make, I had to look at the cook to make sure it wasn't my momma. Every bite was delicious. Only complaint and it's not on them but me, if the tortilla was a little crispy.....Umph!!! It would've been 12 out 10 stars. Burrito and a drink all for 13 dollars. A good price for a great meal. Will definitely be back and next time I'll buy meat here to cook and see how that bad boy comes out. Would recommend this place for all the burrito snobs out there. You'll love it!!! You might kill the cook like Johnny Deep did in Once upon a time in Mexico, that's how good this thang was!!!

Absolutely my favorite spot to hit up when I come back to Cali! I have been coming here since I was 11 and it is still the best. Hits right, tastes amazing and always makes me feel right back at home!!! Thank you for everything!

Wow the food was as good as the beer!!!! service was on point and the patio was busy with a large party but we were off prime time so little to no wait. Parking was a bit challenging as they are in a neighborhood but it can be found. Open modern interior with a beer area that will make any lover beyond happy. The somewhat open kitchen is always fun as well. The Food: Smokehouse Dip: OMG a smoked french dip? Yes please. Nicely sliced smoked meat with a bun that had just enough integrity to survive being dunked in the jus but soft enough to eat without. The melted cheese added a nice counterpoint to the smokey meat and helped offset the saltiness of the jus. Add a bit of their house bbq sauce and it was perfect. Onion Rings: Like a moth to flame I will order this everytime. perfectly friend and just the right batter to onion ration. I could eat these all day long with one of their beers Caesar Salad: Crisp lettuce and plenty of parm. The dressing could have used a bit more acid but was nevertheless good Beer: Pilsner served in a cold glass. Nice and crisp it was a perfect beverage to cleanse the palate between rich bites.

Beware of doing Door Dash though, there is no way of ordering extra sauce. Our BBQ plate was very small and lacked sauce. Clearly the Mac and cheese was not up to par either... so, please plan accordingly...

The sisig chicken was equally impressive, packed with flavor from the Asian marinade and finished with a delicious smoky char. Nox Barbeque truly gets it right. As an Asian American, I've always believed barbecue should come with rice, and I've never really connected with traditional coleslaw. Nox absolutely nailed the balance with their light Asian style slaw and perfectly seasoned rice. It felt both comforting and thoughtfully done. I used to work in the area and I happened to see a flag that said "Caribean". My eyes lit up…read morebecause I am of Puerto Rican descent and anything Caribean I will support. Being in Northern California you won't find too many Caribean spots unless it's Jamaican(I love as well). I decided to stop by at lunch time one day and made an online order of just Yellow Rice and Pigeon Peas, Plantains. When I got there the food was ready and I noticed they had Goya sodas. I am not big on soda but I haven't had one in months so I grabbed it. First off let me say the rice was amazing, soft and flavorful. The name Yellow Rice and Pigeon Peas is the same as Arroz con Gandules which is a Puerto Rican staple. The only difference is ours is more Orange due to the Sazon seasoning. The Yellow Rice was still similar and really good. Paintains were fried perfect, really crisp on the edges which I like. Some places leave them soft or too thick which makes it taste doughy! The second time I went I got the rice and plantains but also the Chicken stew and Mac n Cheese. The Chicken stew had a bold taste, not really spicy and you taste the flavor immediately. It was cooked well and chicken was moist, the stew sauce just made it better. The Mac was probably the only dish that was "Okay". This is likely due to my preference for Southern Mac. This Mac was a tad bit runny with cheese and it had a heat to it like Jalapeno Mac. I got the homemade lemonade for my drink, this was different, not bad but again probably due to my preference of Lemonade. It had a sweet kind of Tampico finish lol. I'm used to the sour then sweet finish I guess but it was still decent. Service was exceptional, food came out quick and hot! 4.5 stars would be my rating but I'm not going to give them 4 stars over lemonade and Mac because I still liked both. 4 stars would be a disservice. I noticed that they only had 1 other customer both times I arrived. This place is way too much to not be busy. Maybe it's the location and lack or banner but I drove by recently and I believe there is a new overhead that says "Caribean Fire Grille".... Please support them.

My first time trying them was yesterday. I ordered the Oxtails, yellow rice with pigeon peas, and…read morethe mac. I was not a fan of the mac and cheese, the rice seemed bland, but I used the juice from the oxtails and it tasted good after that. I will say the main issue I had was the oxtails were really small, like mini. I have never seen oxtails so small. So for the container it came in, which was a small sized meal prep container, and how small those oxtails were, they definitely could have filled the container with more than six mini oxtails. So hopefully they'll see this and do better on that part, overall the flavor was really good. I'm not a fan of plantains, so if it's fried I'm not sure if they're suppose to have a crunch to them or just be soft. For $32 they can give better portions with the oxtails.
