I had the swordfish large plate - it was perfectly grilled and tender and moist with an eggplant purée and super fresh arugula and bokchoy in a citrus dressing, with some cherries and fried onions. The food and drinks at Deadhorse were outstanding, and the staff were helpful and kind, but the service felt unnecessarily rushed. While we were still eating, plates were repeatedly cleared prematurely, and we were asked if we needed a box while holding our forks. Even more bizarre, fresh silverware was placed in front of us...not for dessert, but clearly for the next guests...while we still had full drinks. Despite spending nearly $300 on food and drinks sitting at the bar (where there are no reservations), we felt pressured to leave. A pretentious place with mediocre food. Instead of tipping they charge a 20% fee, regardless of the quality of service which in my case was fair at best. The sauce for my burger which I requested to be on the side was on the burger. They brought out a side of sauce after I ate half of the thing. When I told the server it was already on the burger he wanted to check my food! I declined to allow them to handle my half eaten food. The best part of the experience were the drinks. So we finally put pants on and ventured into Worcester's downtown to sample the highly-regarded Deadhorse Hill. There was a bit of a disagreement between my GF and I regarding the name. Deadhorse GRILL was somehow in our heads. It is, in fact, a hill of dead horses instead of a dead horse BBQ. I was coming off of a night shift and anxiously awaiting 10am to brunch here on a Sunday. As soon as the clock struck 9:45, we ordered that uber and made our way to DHH. Even at like 10:05, there were a few parties occupying tables and the bartender was actively mixing up dranks and juicing oranges. The decor and the ambiance is pretty cool, I snapped a couple shots for the gram bc it looks nice enough. We sat down and perused the brunch menu. They don't have the drink menu online which is savage and clearly I was sleep deprived because I don't remember for the life of me what drinks we ordered. I was hoping that my girlfriend would be able to help me but, no cigar. The only thing she remembers is tequila. I do remember it being very tasty, fruity, and refreshing. I should've ordered another one but I went with variety and sampled their bloody mary. Like most places, I wasn't very fond of it. I really need to stop ordering that shit out. I did order an oat milk latte for the sake of alertness. It was SPECTACULAR. Absolutely delicious. It was creamy and accompanied by a cute little sugar cube that didn't quite do the trick but I could probably go without less sugar anyway. I was aggressively debating between the banana foster pancakes with caramelized bananas, candied pecans, and meringue and the egg sandwich without the sausage which comes with avocado, hots, and cheese on an english muffin. Ultimately, I settled on the sandwich because I did work out the day before and my bod could probably benefit from some protein. My little fiery hot ordered the torta with scrambled eggs, mexican chorizo, and avocado on a massive roll. I saw that their duck fat taters was a side option and because my food-dyslexia mind made me read TOTS instead of taters and holy shit can you imagine how good duck fat TATERS are? My egg sandwich was literally just a sandwich the size of marginally larger than the diameter of an english muffin and NOTHING ELSE. No side. Nada. This shit set me back $11 which, imo, is a little steep for a sandwich the size of an english muffin. It was voluminous in the way of height, however, so I will give them that. It didn't taste particularly good, either. The egg wasn't scrambled, as I expected for some reason, and the yolk was pretty raw in the middle. I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I'm not fond of raw yolk or even yolk in general, and this grossed me out a bit. The avocado was fine. The cheese was not a particularly well-represented portion of the sandwich. I couldn't even finish it, tbh. Very disappointing. GF only ate half of her sandwich and had maybe 75% of the remaining portion with what is left still in our fridge (we went approx 5 days ago) so what does that tell you? The taters, once I got over the disappointment that they weren't TOTS, were the best part of the meal. There was nothing exceptional about them, they were just good. This place is not to be missed - the menu changes and always features something new. Farm to table and very inventive dishes. I appreciate the hard work that the staff puts in to ensure a quality experience. Robin is the head chef and she is a true talent here. You notice her attention to detail. Whatever taste they would've had is lost the second they drop them in the fryolater. Everything else from cocktails to dessert surpassed our expectations. They do add a 20% service charge to ensure the staff makes adequate wages and I am OK with that, but just have to keep an eye on staff and attentiveness (as they know they are making their 20%) it can sometimes initiate some "slacking" minor details with the great food and atmosphere, worth a try! read more

We were in town this past weekend for cheer competition at the DCU Center and our scheduled allowed us the morning off, so we decided to try Deadhorse for brunch - we were not disappointed. We ordered the chicken & waffles, soft egg scramble, burger, duck fat tators and malted buttermilk pancakes. Literally everything was amazing. My 13 yr daughter attacked the chicken & waffles stating she could eat the crispy skin like potato chips. The eggs in my soft egg scramble were hands down the best eggs I ever had. I used to think scrambled eggs were the same no matter where you go. So not true. My husband took one bite of the burger and said "wow". Malted buttermilk pancake was a great addition to the table which we all enjoyed. I literally can't say enough about the food. Taste, presentation and cooked perfectly. The atmosphere was rustic trendy and a fun place to visit. Service was A-, good but not a total home run like the food. If I had to ding them on one thing was the food did take a while to come out of the kitchen, about 45 minutes. We were okay with is because we weren't in a rush and wanted to enjoy our morning. My husband and I went here last night with another couple. The host was really nice, the wait wasn't long (which is great for a busy, Saturday night), and the host even offered to provide us with beverages while we wait for our table. The scene is very nice-- love the vibe of it all. However, the reason for the one star is because of service-- or lack there of. Our server was rude from the start and was annoyed when spoken to. She was not very attentive & so when we wanted another round of drinks or some sauce we asked another employee who was walking by. She was annoyed with us that we asked one of her co workers for assistance with zero apology for her extended absence throughout our visit. The food was great, but unfortunately due to the nasty service we received we will not be returning to this restaurant. We were upset to find out that there was a 20% tip added to our bill automatically. I believe in tipping AT LEAST 20% coming from working in the service industry, but not for this bad of service. I guess when you know you'll be receiving a tip regardless you don't try to do your job. We all truly felt she was even going out of her way to be rude. I will not be back. read more

Foodies, listen up! Drinks are great, food not so much. Actually, the whole experience was solidly in the underwhelming (borderline, bad) category. We went for an early dinner on the bright gleaming recommendations of the other Yelpers that enticed us to go - sadly, it just went downhill from the moment we walked in. First off, their ordering system is completely without reason whatsoever (considering they still have servers?). Here's a menu, grab a table, then come back up to front on the other side of the bar to order like it's a damn coffee shop. Want to order a drink first? Nah, come back up with your whole order first. Okay... that's dumb. But I'll wait in line to order my food and drinks, whatever. The guy taking the orders really didn't have much of a clue about the menu, but was very nice. So, okay, the food. Ordered the chilaquiles verdes and white asparagus barigoule to start off. The chilaquiles had a fried egg on top... good start. Then noticed the heat... okay, liking it so far, but kinda one note-ish. Move on to the barigoule... disaster. The white asparagus was still swimming a bit in its own juice but didn't have much flavor and was accompanied by an equally bland aioli with a side of super oily toast. Swing and a miss. Next we had the wagyu torta with the spaetzle and sausage. These dishes were the final nails in the dead meal coffin. Not sure how you can make wagyu beef bland, but this place figured it out. The only flavor it had was the heat from the salsa. The spaetzle was browned and tasty but with an overpowered dollop of course mustard that completely wrecked those beautiful ramps. The spicy cheese kielbasa was just, wow, bad... dry and uninspired. So, DHH (as you Yelpers like to call it), you don't deserve the two stars I gave you, even with your hip vibe. Spicy does NOT make up for mediocre flavor, and I LOVE spicy food. I'm only giving you those two stars for the delicious drinks and friendly bartender. Other than that, please be better. I like this place, it definitely is expensive and crafty. There is no go to dish for me. A lot of what I saw on the menu was abstract and experimental. I think Deadhorse Hill is doing a lot for Worcester. It's a must come to place but not necessarily a must come back to place. It would be great if the menu was more veg-friendly and accessible to less refined palates. Alas, I don't think that's the target audience. We were pleasantly greeted by the chefs and server who was very attentive and helpful in deciding what to order. The cocktails were great. Not the best in town but great nonetheless. Support staff was all smiles and hardworking; despite this place being seemingly upscale, the servers and bartenders were dressed like busboys and pot washers which kinda threw me off. My swordfish steak was great! Honestly I wish they had more fish on the menu as I am always hesitant to order swordfish. Swordfish is hard to cook right but they nailed it. The babaganoush was fresh. It was such a hearty dish that I couldn't eat it fast enough and it got cold. Mea culpa. The vegan dish was indescribable. Well, the very nice lady who brought it to our table described it pretty well, going into so much detail that I can't even remember it. I do know that the ingredients were local and there were multiple preserves that took months to create and use. This dish exploded with flavor and texture. It was almost too much. Great place in Worcester for good food, ended up here after most other places were closed and glad that they were open. Ambiance is modern and simplistic, slightly bright when you walk in. Nice of them to have a coat check. I believe this place gets filled up soon, so it's prob better to make reservations. Service was great and the waiter was somewhat helpful. Got the bees nest and the cosmo, the former had a bit of smoky flavor and a bit on the stronger side. For food, the salad was pretty good with the red wine vinaigrette (not sure about the yoghurt) but the braised beef with the duck fat potatoes were amazing. Overall good experience here, portion sizes are variable for dishes although usually on the smaller side and price range is def $$$, came upto 100$ approximately for 2 people. read more

I went to this restaurant because of the good reviews. I was very disappointed. First of all there is no parking for this restaurant. Waiter came over and tried to sell different wines before we even had a chance to look at the drink list. I ordered a sprite and my husband ordered a margarita. Waiter served me the can of sprite and a kids Smurf glass which I thought was very tacky. My husband's margarita was served with salt which he did not want and the glass was full of ice, price $13. We were given a carafe of water which was so warm we couldn't drink it. Meal was terrible. Appetizer fried clams, batter very thick and salty. Shared the half pound cheese burger, terrible. Literally my favorite restaurant. I've been coming here for years and since day one, always had a killer experience. I'm finally writing my review because restaurants need us more than ever and I can't keep my favorite place a secret anymore. The first time I came here, it was with a few friends and we popped in before a show at the palladium. We didn't know what to expect but we figured we could scare up some grub before the headliner came on and the two of us that weren't practically ten months pregnant could get a decent cocktail. I was thinking maybe more pub grub appetizers and cheap drafts. A Hendricks and tonic with a slice of cucumber if I was lucky. Holy crap was I in for a shock. First of all it was way more upscale than we anticipated, but we didn't feel unwelcome. It's casual but elegant inside. The Worcester wares shirts on the staff are a wonderful touch. We ended up splitting the horse feast three ways - which is a fucking bargain at $100. A perfectly seasoned and cooked tomahawk steak with a locally sourced salad and duck fat potatoes! We cleared the whole thing and felt satiated and not over full. In addition to that killer meal, the cocktails we were served would rival that of any specialty cocktail bar in any major city. They even took the time to craft an amazing non-alcoholic mocktail for our practically ten month pregnant friend. I've brought many a friend here for brunch, dinner, cocktails and coffee. My partner and I had our fifth wedding anniversary dinner here. Every time, the chef knocks it out of the park with fresh, local, seasonal fare that is half the price of anything in Boston. This summer, when the plague took over our lives and forced us all to reevaluate how our entire society works, they adapted pretty quickly to change and converted their whole operation into a food truck with a take out bar. I went to Wellfleet this summer and the clam roll and lobster roll I got in friggin Worcester from Deadhorse's food truck CRUSHED all the same sandwiches I got on cape cod. To deliver that caliber of food on the fly consistently in a frigging pandemic to the hungry, scared masses is truly godlike work. Now that the summer is over and they have extremely reduced capacity indoors for safety. (Safety has always been paramount and I love that about them!) We both ordered: -Spätzle: never had this before but this was BOMB! -Fried chicken: so crispy and cooked well, came in smeared (on the plate) hot sauce and honey. **the spice was a slooooow burn!!
