I was disappointed with my experience. 7-10-26 at Dean and Deluca Kaka'ako location. When I got home, I found that the paper at the bottom of my bakery bag (underneath the cake box) had numerous translucent spots and a residue that could be felt on the surface of the paper. I called the bakery right away to ask about it. Instead of looking into the issue, or apologizing right away, the manager immediately told me it was "just how the ink was printed." That explanation didn't make sense to me because the marks were random, it should be a plain white paper inside the bottom of the bag. instead there was a residue you could actually feel on the paper, and it didn't resemble a printing pattern. He open his mouth without knowing what he is talking about. I wasn't expecting a refund, I just wanted my concern to be taken seriously and for someone to investigate what it could have been. The lack of concern and dismissive response left me feeling disappointed. At the end the manager apologized. I hope the bakery takes customer concerns more seriously in the future. No parking. When asked I didn't get an answer. I had to wait awhile. Personnel wasn't apportioned correctly. Their address is 210 Ward but it was a block away. 210 Ward used to be on the corner of Ala Moana and Ward. Bread was dry and strawberry cake was ok. Nice displays. Dean & DeLuca in Kakaako is beautiful. It's bougie to go along with the prices. The shop is on the smaller side with tables on the outside for dining. There's no parking in the building, but you can park across the street at Ward Theater or Whole Foods. The cakes looked fancy, but taste wise it was mediocre. The Coconut Island $8 had a nice creamy flavor and was better than the Mont-Blanc Fig Tart $10. It was missing that nutty chestnut flavor that was swirled on the outside. On the inside was whipped cream on a cookie crust. The cookie crust was good and still crunchy. The Bento Box item was better than the pastries. It's premade and refrigerated. They can heat it up for you or you can take it home and heat it later. I took mine home for lunch. They told me to heat it in the microwave for two minutes. The Butter Chicken Curry $13 was tasty with a decent amount of chicken in it. The 16oz. House Blend Hot Coffee $7.50 and 24oz. Salted Caramel Iced Latte $8.95 was not worth it. I've had better coffee drinks for cheaper. We also got the Sausage Breakfast Sandwich $7 and Walnut Banana Bread $8 that I did not try. read more

Very cute cafe/store. Noticed a ton of tourists swarming this location and looking for the ever-so-popular Dean & DeLuca tote bag... so basic.. LOL Service was fast and friendly and they were actually pretty busy (whoa) I usually avoid this place because I know this is the Japanese tourists' favorite spot but I decided to blend in LOL The desserts were great. I liked how my mont blanc looked like a Christmas tree :o very festive. The taste wasn't too sweet and the flavors complimented each other and had a nutty choco taste. My friend got the ube and hers was much richer compared to mines which was lighter but had great flavor. Overall great experience. Stopped in for a quick to-go order and was pleasantly surprised by how good everything was. The iced matcha raspberry latte sounded a little unusual, but it totally worked. The matcha was smooth and earthy without being bitter, and the raspberry added a light fruity sweetness that made it really refreshing instead of heavy. Not overly sugary either, which I appreciated. Also grabbed some focaccia bread to go, and it was soft, fluffy, and full of flavor. The outside had a nice light chew while the inside stayed airy and tender. My friends and I love sitting outdoors at this Dean & Deluca because of the view. On a nice day, it is the most picture perfect outdoor cafe seating in Honolulu because of the covered outdoor seating paired with delicious pastries and coffee and the view of the brand new park. Their display case is filled with high end cakes and desserts. I've tried their Sencha tea and Flat White coffee before which I enjoyed. Man.... I have been to this type of place before. Beautiful looking bakery. Beautiful looking pastries, cakes, breads. Everything high class. You buy with anticipation because everything looks so good. But when you take it home, you know the truth. Although it is beautiful on the outside, the truth is that the product is not that good. When I mean not that good, I mean you have a reference on what you bought and the your taste tells you that the cake is dry, the bread is dense and not as tasty as it looks. My review is solely based on the pastries and desserts. Yelp BFF and I stopped by to pick up a bunch of treats for brunch/early dinner. We picked up an assortment of croissants, tarts, and pastries. I got one of those cookie almond croissants. It tasted like a much needed warm hug. Buttery, flakey, crispy, and just a hint of sweet. I thoroughly enjoyed it. This place can get busy on weekends, so I try to go on weekdays when shopping at Whole Foods. The croissants are flaky and buttery, and the chocolate one is my favorite. It's not a typical rolled type with chocolate drizzled on top; rather, it is filled with a slightly firm custardy chocolate filling and liberally dusted with cocoa powder. As for pastries, I've only tried their pear tart so far, but have gotten it twice because I enjoyed it so much. The delicate poached pears are elevated by the pastry cream with light thyme flavor. The espresso is good, but on my last visit the person who took my order told me they don't offer it iced, which I had requested. Wait, what??Luckily the barrista fulfilled my request when I asked her to. I also tried their special raspberry matcha, which had just enough sweetness not to overwhelm the matcha flavor. I've only had one of their prepared meals, the cold pasta with shrimp scampi. It's a light and tasty dish, but could use a little more veggies to complete it. I come here mainly for the seating/ ambiance when it's nice out. but the food/drinks are decent if a bit overpriced for what you get. They finally finished construction in the area so it's a very family and pedestrian friendly area Koula shops area, so expect tons of kids, pets, and strollers. There's a huge beautiful new playground, lots of shady grassy areas, and a variety of seating areas both at the cafes (here and Westman across the way) and around the Victoria Ward park. Service is fast and polite, even at peak times. It's a Japanese tourist magnet so expect lots of crowds mid morning when the weather is nice, even on weekdays. Drinks are probably $1-3 more expensive than I'd pay at a comparable cafe. Mostly coffee and tea/matcha drinks. The pastry and bakery displays are gorgeous, I've had a few pastries but nothing has wow-ed me. They also offer savory items and lunch bentos catered from the Ritz Carlton. Overall I return frequently to enjoy the weather/seating and the food/drinks are a nice thing to have too. read more

I wanted to try the spot next to this but husband wanted a safer bet so he got his cold brew here. He tasted it and turned to me and said it sucks. Usually when he says that it's just a plain old coffee, nothing special, but when I took a sip it tasted like an ashtray. We are coffee lovers and I've had a lot of coffees i didn't like but could appreciate but I kept trying and it tastes like a cigarette. I used to spend a lot of lunch hours in D&D locations across Manhattan and then the one location in Georgetown, DC, before it closed. So you can understand why I was super excited when this D&D location opened. Sadly, my nostalgia-fueled delight was cut short as soon as I tried their food. I ordered the butter chicken bento, a café au lait, and a couple of pastries to share with my family. The butter chicken was an utter disappointment. I've had better tasting and more flavorful butter chicken flying in economy on an American airline. It was literally tomato bisque with a few chunks of dry chicken. I've only been living in Hawaii for 6 months, but I drink a ton of coffee. I have yet to taste a bad cup of coffee... until now. The café au lait was so watered down, it tasted like a cup of hot water with a dash of light coffee and low fat milk. The service was also subpar. While I was waiting for my order, I decided to browse the shelves of merchandise. All of sudden, I hear someone screeching my name, and it wasn't my 3-year old. The barista who had my brown water ready was screeching my name in such a jarring manner, EVERYONE in the vicinity turned and stared. To put a stop to it, I shouted from halfway across the store, "I'm here!!!" Mind you, the store is not that big so her annoying volume and pitch were really unnecessary. All 3 locations have different merch with some that are staples at each. (Now I think back, were the cakes on display premade the night before?) The cake is pretty, the taste is good, pretty similar to Kulu Kulu, but Kulu Kulu's strawberry shortcake is more moist and light. Now onto the disappointment - I found a tiny moving bug on the strawberry! I did double check to make sure I saw it right. But I saw it moving on my plate!!!! Not sure what the hype is about, this place felt like a very average cafe and bakery. Coffee: My husband got the cold brew, and it was... fine. Not watery, not too strong, but the overall flavor was bland. I got a regular matcha latte, and honestly, it was disappointing. Way too sweet with the vanilla bean syrup, super watery, and I could barely taste any matcha. I think Starbucks might do a better job--and I don't even drink Starbucks anymore (IFYKYK). Bakery: The cheesecake looked promising--light and fluffy--but it was too wet for my taste, almost like it hadn't set properly. We also tried the Mont Blanc, and it was underwhelming. The chestnut flavor was nice, but the whole thing was just a mountain of whipped cream on top of a soggy sprinkle of crust. Overall: Very mid experience for a first visit. Yessssss! High quality, bread, and fancy desserts in my hood! Good coffee too. I love going here to buy their sourdough bread. Available only on Tuesdays and Saturdays. It is delicious and one of my favorites. Low on preservatives and high in flavor. It even tastes delicious a couple of days later toasted and slathered with butter. Love the basque cheesecake, tres leches tart, Delizia lemon tart, strawberry shortcake ...the case is always full of decadent, beautifully decorated cakes, tarts, pastry and bread. This has become my go to place for desserts...Especially if you need a dinner gift or something to give someone special just to say how sweet they are. The coffee here is also very very good. Smooth, dark and Rich. They also have a lot of different tea drinks and sell breakfast sandwiches, a butter chicken with rice entrée, a miso pork entrée, and shrimp scampi with noodles... Today was an unusually odd experience, and we do visit at least once weekly or every 2 weeks. Several issues need to be addressed: (1) the ordering line was not consistently clear so customers were all standing in line all over the place inside, (2) even though I was very clear in instructions about which cake slice will be eaten now in a separate plate versus later in the evening, both cake slices were placed into one large box. Luckily, I informed them to fix it before it was at the pickup area. (3) Lastly, the soufflé cake slice we got had a piece of hair baked into it. That was the first we've ever had that happen to any cake we've purchased at this location. So I informed the staff at pickup area that I needed a new slice. Maybe today was extremely chaotic for them, but that's not an excuse for the way it was. We have been here pretty often since its opening, and this is the one time, things all went wrong. Although many of us tend to think the products at Dean and Deluca are expensive, they sell sandwiches, baked goods etc at reasonable prices. This time, I bought Prosciutto Cream Cold Capellini ($9.95). This is a cold dish: cold capellini with diced prosciutto and asparagus was marinated with white cream sauce. It was good but when I was bored with its cream sauce, I added mild tomato salsa from Tomato guy (also you can find it at Kakaako FM: the other side at the corner). This rating is specifically for their fruit roll cake. I wanted to check out their newest location, so I bought their fruit roll cake just to try something. It was soft and fluffy with the perfect whipped cream, but what was shocking was-not only did it have grapefruit in it...it was PERFECT. I've never even heard of a cake with grapefruit-it was unique, creative and innovative...probably the only time in my life I was blown away by a slice of cake! First visit to Dean & Deluca in Kakaako morning and was quite disappointed. I ordered the chicken and hummus wrap, not heated. The wrap arrived heated without hummus. I asked for a side of hummus, but was told they couldn't give me any, as the wraps are made elsewhere and delivered to D&D. The chicken had pieces of gristle. I through it away. Odd that I've never been to any of the Dean & DeLuca stores in Waikiki, but I've breezed by its stall at the Kaka'ako Farmers Market several times. It's there every Saturday from 8-12PM. Sells the easy, grab and go items, which some sell out quickly as I was told for a few items. We were recommended to try the pancake mix at Dean & DeLuca. We actually went to their stall twice because I needed time to agree to spend $11 for a bag of pancake mix. The two guys working there were very friendly and nice, and provided us with additional information regarding the items we looked at. $25 for a shopping bag? It's okay... My Yelp ones are better!! The stall here at the farmers market is a nice alternative to going into Waikiki. read more

Whoa... weird happenings AGAIN. Yesterday, we were roaming about the Kaka'ako Farmers Market AKA Farmlovers Market before meeting family at Rinka Japanese Restaurant at Ward Village, when we passed by Dean & DeLuca. I stopped to pick up a tote bag for my husband's brother's-in-law girlfriend. I chose a sturdy fabric tote bag with leather(?) handles for her to use when she goes marketing or to throw her exercise gear into. I also purchased a loaf of bread to throw in the bag so it wouldn't be empty as a gift. The worker in the booth was so friendly and mentioned how thoughtful I was to get this gift. As I was leaving I brought out my Yelp app and tried to check-in only to find that someone had reported this business as closed! Also, there was another new page that someone created with no reviews AND used this market's former address which is incorrect. I was so looking forward to eating my favorite dessert, a Mont Blanc, but was given a cream puff...Although good, I got ripped off $5 for not receiving the item I ordered. So many yummy options I went for the Pono Pork Prosciutto Tomato Capellini, BAM! Ohhhh it's cold...is this a salad? Not sure it's beautiful and a decent size, okay well we went across the street to chill and enjoy. It's not bad kind of on the dry side I guess it was tossed when it was warmer so it dried up a bit...would I have it again? No...they should have the sauce on the side or alter the sauce to more like a dressing-ish it so it would be so dry. Using a coupon for a free lemonade or iced tea from Amy M... When I read Lyla's review, I found out that the Waikiki locations of Dean & DeLuca had closed. I hurried to Kaka'ako Farmer's Market to Dean & Deluca's booth to use the coupon from Amy M. which would expire soon. I hadn't used the coupon (for a free iced tea or lemonade) because I was reluctant to go to Waikiki. Many businesses are closed now because of the Pandemic. I was happy that Dean & DeLuca was one of the vendors at the Saturday morning Kakaako Farmers Market on Auahi Street. Unfortunately, August is a relatively warm month in Hawaii. The beverages were sold out, so I showed the cashier my coupon and they extended the expiration date... yay! Thank you! I finally made it early enough to the Kaka'ako Farmer's Market which opens at 8am. However, there was a line! I decided to stand in another line (for mochi filled with a fresh strawberry) and come back to Dean & DeLuca. This turned ot to be a good plan because the strawberry mochi sold out quickly while Dean & DeLuca still had iced tea and lemonade! Whew! During my first visit, I had gotten an egg salad sandwich. It was okay - just normal - nothing really outstanding. On my second visit to this food booth, I got the Ahi Tuna Melt along with my free lemonade. Both items were alright. I wouldn't rush back for them. Haha! The service was very polite and friendly! I was interested in the other merchandise such as reusable tote bags. This review is for the farmers market location at kakaako- which is held every Saturday from 8-12pm. I've attempted to try dean and deluca twice. The first time was unsuccessful and everything was sold out about 10 am, so I went a little earlier the following week. There was a short line and everything was available the second time around so I tried the egg sandwich, ulu caprese, and chicken nanban. All 3 items came out to about $15. All items were received cold. I was a little disappointed in that since I thought they'd be making some stuff on the spot and I'd have a hot chicken sandwich. They had a lot of people working at the tent, so I really thought they were prepping hot items there too. The egg sandwich tasted ok, nothing spectacular and that was the same with the chicken nanban sandwich. The you caprese had more ulu than anything else in the container. Ended up tossing the entire thing. It tasted kinda weird. Both locations are closed in Waikiki with the exception of ritz carlton where you can do your meal kit pick up which I've also tried and will review separately. The farmers market is dog friendly but it's really hot. Don't forget to bring your bestie some water and maybe carry them around cause the pavement will be hard on their feet in this weather. read more
