For years I was never happy with my hair after leaving different salons. Now that I've been getting my hair done by Veronica for 4 years, I have left feeling happy, light, and beautiful EVERY time! Highly recommend her! The salon itself is great; the staff is warm and welcoming and makes you feel special the moment you walk in. I had been to Dean Anthony's several times before but never had the same stylist. I'll be first to admit that my hair type is not easy to work with, so I liked to try different stylists out and see what can be done. It was always a good appointment and I had recommended it to friends even before I found Veronica. BUT, once I met Veronica and saw what magic she can work I have never had anyone else since. I'm not exaggerating when I say that nobody else has been able to do what she has with my hair in my entire life and it has never felt healthier. Not only is she great with cut and color and I frequently get compliments from other patrons often before I even leave the lobby; to me the best part is how I feel afterwards. My hair feels like silk! I feel like a new woman walking out- an experience I had never had before. The story of the first time she did my hair is now funny, but at the time I was mortified going in. I was having an epic hair disaster; my hair became matted and was essentially the biggest tangles you've ever seen. I did everything I could to get it out but needed a professional. I was so embarrassed and stressed, but I met Veronica and she immediately put me at ease and didn't make me feel judged. She was patient and spent a very long time to tackle the situation. She seriously did the best job given what she had to work with. After that, I was absolutely sold. Once I went in for a normal appointment instead of a disaster, I got to also see what she can do with non-matted hair lol. She's such a professional and on top of it is so kind and easy to talk to. We now laugh at the story of meeting, but it was honestly such a relief and she saved my hair from not having to be cut to a super short cut or bob. I've been seeing Kyle at Dean Anthony for about a year and every experience has been great. The salon is super clean, the staff incredible, and the service top notch. Today I was served an espresso martini while I waited and it felt appropriate to leave a review. There's no shortage of salons in Long Beach but I doubt many live up to the standard of Dean Anthony. There's a sense that the entire team is focused on making each client feel special and it's obvious they take pride in ensuring every client leaves feeling better than they arrived. The overall attention to detail speaks for itself...I was once asked if they could add quarters to my meter because I'd mentioned upon arrival that I was short on change (and they likely saved me a ticket)! Excellent communication, friendly service, smiles all around...everyone just seems happy. Today as two staff members parted ways one said to the other, "love you!" I wanted to call out, "love you too!" Kyle is a large contributor to my overall sense of self worth. Honestly, I've been through so many stylists in my time but he's the best by a mile. He's a wizard with color, a sculptor with shears, and a genuinely good guy. Some people are just more talented than others and he falls into this category. Okay. The experience starts with great customer service on the phone making the reservation. Then I was greeted with acknowledgement of my appointment, offering of several different drink options, and then quick guidance to the back to get my hair washed. There's an upbeat vibe with busy yet very friendly staff. I had the pleasure of Michelle's expertise and professionalism. Back story, I had a haircut 3 weeks prior at another salon and was told the style I wanted was not viable due to the short length of my hair. Totally understood, my previous hair was difficult to shape. I was told to wait two months to come back (for hair growth). I woke today feeling blah and ugly so I yelped salons and this salon came up with great profiles (backstories) of wonderful stylists. I love stories. Finally! The perfect haircut for my wild frizzy hair! I had a great experience with Mickey Todd at Dean Anthony salon. Not only did she and the receptionist welcome me so warmly, they were accommodating and kind. After so many bad cuts, I have been searching for someone to handle my thinning but wildly curly hair. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience I had with Mickey. She gave me a good assessment of what my hair needed and talked me through the whole service to made sure that I was comfortable with her work. She sent me home with some great advice and a few samples of the products she used. The curl cream I purchased along with the incredible haircut I received, turn my dull, frizzy hair into beautiful shiny curls!! I love how it's growing out. IF YOU HAVE NATURALLY CURLY HAIR BEWARE! I didn't want to do this but I need to let other people know to hopefully save others money, time, and disappointment... I scheduled a consult with Mickey awhile back and specifically said "My hair is naturally curly, are you familiar with working with this type of hair?" She said yes of course. Great because I liked the way her coloring pics looked. Fast forward to my salon experience: I scheduled a wash, blow dry, trim and style to test her out before color. Upon my arrival they offered me beverages, ok cool that's nice. Mickey calls me to her seat and asks me how much I want to trim I tell her just a little. Again I told her "Even though my hair looks straight, it's naturally curly" I even said it's tight curls because I wanted her to be aware that when she washes it it will no longer be as straight as a pin. She again says yes no problem. I go to the bowl to get my hair washed by her assistant. She baaaaarely touched my scalp. She lightly braised my hairline with the shampoo and never actually scrubbed the shampoo in to clean the scalp. It's almost as if she was AFRAID to touch my hair? She proceeded to do it a second time and then did some weird "massage" with the conditioner. Uhmm can you please work/comb the product through my hair? Nope because then she was all done, she didn't even rinse all the product from my hair. I was already bothered by this and so I decided to speak up and let the girl know that I did not feel her scrub my scalp and that now my scalp was itching because of the product still on it. Mickey saw the look of disappointment on my face and luckily told the assistant to go "assist" elsewhere while she re-shampooed and conditioned my hair. Great ok again I'm feeling a little better. A little voice in my head told me to leave right then and there but I try to give people the benefit of the doubt.. so away we go to Mickey's chair for the next step... Now anyone with curly or as they called it "texturized" hair knows that you have to MOISTURIZE the hair by adding some sort of cream or spray, and you can't just plop it on top, you have to actually open the hair follicle/cuticle with some sort of heat or steam. Again nope, she proceeds to add something called "straight away" to my hair and tells me "there's going to be a lot of tension". I didn't know what that meant because again I've been to salons before that knew what they were doing with curly/textured hair. I discovered what she meant because she proceeded to rake the dryer through my dry curly hair over and over again. At one point I counted 20 times for ONE section of hair... 20?!?! I could not help but think omg my poor hair and my poor neck from having to hold my head up while she clawed the bristle brush through my dry curls. At one point she hit me in the forehead with the brush (now I have a mark on my head) and it didn't stop there... it was time to flat iron. Again when working with curly hair it's important to protect the curls with some sort of heat protective spray... but NOPE. She then applied straight dry heat from the flat iron on my already dried up hair. I'd like to also add that she was moving so fast I was wondering if she was actually flat ironing anything? She finally trimmed my hair and at the end she asked me if the cut was good, I said I won't be able to tell until it's styled. She looked perplexed by my comment and then tells me "oh I can't style your hair because we have a 1 HOUR quota and you've gone over the time." I said wait what? My jaw was on the floor in disbelief. She said yeah they didn't tell me your hair was textured and that took up the whole hour. Whoa wait, I told you my hair was tight curls TWICE and you said it was fine. No one said anything about 1 hour max or that textured hair meant no styling if it went past the hour. Also if her assistant knew how to wash my hair correctly and Mickey knew how to incorporate products to curly hair properly it would've saved her time from raking the brush through my hair 20+++ times. We get to the front desk and she has to let the front desk person know to remove the styling and only charge for the cut. Ok so I WAS supposed to get styled? I paid and even tipped 25% just because that's what I do out of habit. I've worked in the customer service industry. But after I left I quickly regretted it. There was a lot that just didn't sit right with me, including the mark on my forehead from her brush. I came for a service and left looking like a hot mess (see pics for your visual viewing pleasure). Never again, you guys made my bday hair experience the WORST! If you're unskilled at working with as you called it "textured" hair then please say that in the beginning to save people time and money. If I could turn back time I would've never set foot in this place. Hopefully this review helps save the person reading it. Beware ladies and gents! read more

When it comes to hair care and salons, I am very overprotective and picky with my hair. It's hard to find stylists who charge a reasonable price and know how to get the perfect shade of blonde for you. Everyone at this salon was nice, including my stylist. However, I would not recommend this salon for young women with short hair. I came in with pictures of how I style my hair when it's freshly cut and in its natural texture. Instead of honoring what I asked for, I proceeded to get cut as if I asked for a rounded (and dramatic) French Bob. Think Lord Farquaad cut. My hair now has layers that I didn't ask for or want. It's shorter in the back. The entire cut is noticeably uneven. It sits like it was hacked by a weed whacker and its very bottom heavy. And sadly, now, it's incredibly difficult to style in the ways I've always styled my short hair which before, was low maintenance and cute. I would come in to get it fixed, but I'm unsure I'd trust the salon enough to make the necessary changes (or if it's even fixable until it's grown out). Overall, really disappointed and don't feel the stylist took my opinions and requests into account when cutting. I won't be back and I'm frustrated that I paid so much money for my hair to be ruined. I'm sad to leave this review, but I'm so disappointed with the cut that I feel I need to. :/ I've included photos for reference, including photos of my hair after my last cut at another salon (black shirts) and how I typically style it (waved and straight).
