Very Bad Experience with Dean's Home Service, 6701 Parkway Circle #600, Brooklyn Center, MN 55430 On Sunday morning Nov. 24th. 2024 we awoke to find water flowing out of our laundry room ceiling and electric breaker panel. The source of the water was a burst water heater in the condo above ours. Being afraid to enter a room with a wet floor and breaker panel, I immediately phoned several electricians. Being Sunday none of them answered. My wife did a quick Google search and found Dean's Home Services. She called them and they sent out an electrician. When he arrived he turned off the power to our unit and gave us an estimate $30,095.96 for the repairs that, he said were needed. A $6000 deposit was required before any work could begin. I paid the deposit and had him begin work. Their estimate included: Removal and replacement of the 100 amp breaker panel along with all of the circuit breakers. Removal and replacement of all the wires entering and exiting the breaker panel. The reason we were given for replacing the wires was that they are indoor rated and having gotten wet they could cause a fire. Three experienced electricians that I personally asked about this, said it was completely unnecessary to replace these wires. Replacement of the wires would have cause extensive additional damage to the walls and ceilings of our condo and driven up repair cost dramatically. Work that was actually completed by Dean's Home Services before being replaced with a different contractor: Disconnected and removed the breakers from the panel. Installed 2 temporary junction boxes so the remittance company could power the fans and dehumidifiers needed to dry out our condo. (This was done in an unsafe manner, leaving the energized panel open an uncovered for ten days). Restored power to our furnace to prevent freezing. About five hours on site. Estimates given to our insurance adjuster by other trusted electricians for the work completed by Dean's = $3500. Dean's Home Services electrical department manager has refused to cooperate with our insurance adjusters request for an itemized invoice so that our claim can be processed. He suspiciously and coincidently claims that the work they completed cost exactly the same amount as my $6000 deposit. He also claims that the electrician was accompanied by two apprentices that we are being billed for. Our condo is in a secured building and each of the two times that the electrician arrived, I personally let him in the main entrance door. No apprentices entered with him. If apprentices somehow found their own way into the building, they never entered our actual unit. When I confronted the electrical department manager about this, he said the apprentices remained out in the truck. Were they ever really here? They certainly were not needed. I believe that Dean's Home Services is a dishonest company. They over charged for the work they completed and tried to sell expensive services that are not needed. Called the day after Christmas with a pinhole leak in pipe in basement. Not only did they get a plumber (Tim L.) out the next day, but he was able to repair the leak and replace the pipe so it can't occur again. The plumber, Tim was clean, on time and super courteous. He gave us a couple of estimates for how to fix the issue. In addition, while he was here, we asked him to take a look at a problem faucet we've been looking to replace. He gave us some recommendations on how to best address the faucet and an estimate to replace it. He also said that as long as he was here, he could do it today if we wanted him to. However, when he went out to his truck to show us a faucet, he only had one. So, we assumed we'd have to reschedule, but he went back to the shop to get another faucet! We have lived in the Plymouth area for over 10 years and have use multiple plumbers. We used Dean's for the first time roughly 2 years ago and have never looked anywhere else since. Their pricing is very clear and open with a flat fee for parts + overhead + profit %. There's no messing around with hourly rate, travel fees, etc... Their phone service people as well as the field staff have always been courteous and professional. To the Dean's staff: Thanks for the great service and thanks to Tim for his work today. I made an account just to inform people of how shit this company is, I witnessed it first hand and I'm not gonna get into details because these guys will probably take it legal circumstances. But Dean's plumbing is the worst company I have ever laid eyes in my entire life, it is the most unorganized worthless pile of shit I think any human being has ever tried to accomplish something from. There's only 2 managers running the company dean and jerimey and they both are lying scum bags who don't have a clue how to run a business nobody ever knows what's going on and they overprice and lie to get quick cash because they pay these guys get is worthless and the workers are in need of cash because of the company going down the shitter. Dean himself first handed admitted he doesn't even know how to plum better yet know the equipment!!! this dude probably got some gullible investor to invest in him and dean is trying to make a quick buck. The dude is a creep and has absolutely no social skills he's awkward and needs to get out of this business asap because just the fact that there's people like him pisses me off and I will not stop till this shit company and all of it's workers have nothing left. My main drain was backing up and I was recommended by two other people that Dean's was good. Until I had Garvin come to my house yesterday I was still a little skeptical. Garvin was friendly, knowledgeable and just had that personality that you felt comfortable and with him in my home. Garvin's customer service needs to be taught to so many more people now a days especially in these days of our epidemic and unrest. Then when the field Supervisor came Aketo he just showed me how valued i am as a customer and didn't treat me like I did not know what I was talking about. Both Garvin and Aketo were amazing, honest, friendly, understanding and just exceptional customer service. I also have to say I spoke to Ashley on the phone a few times because I switched my days to come out and she as well was very professional. I totally would recommend Dean's Home Service to anyone who needs service. I am not the best writer but I just want Dean's to now what a great crew I worked with yesterday. :) read more

I contacted Dean's Home Services when I finally admitted to myself that my furnace just wasn't keeping my house warm enough on cold nights. They sent out someone on the day I called. Tony reviewed and explained the situation. My furnace was "short cycling" or shutting off for some reason shortly after it started. We discussed options and prices and I selected a complete system replacement. (It was 20+ years old.) The crew showed up as scheduled and took care of business. I found it odd that they would replace the a/c in December, but they did. Angel and Jonatan [J.C. per Angel] did a great job on all of it. (Why in heavens name would they have those two working together?) They worked together very well. And they left the furnace exactly same as when they arrived. I have to say I am impressed in the care for my space. Clearly the highest appreciation for the crew and the company. Great work!! I'll definitely call them for future maintainence - highly recommended. read more

My ancient furnace decided to give up recently. Of course it had to be on a Sunday. I called Dean's and got an appointment for the same day. Cody arrived on time, was very polite and friendly and scoped out the furnace. He was very sympathetic and kind when he delivered the news that a major ( expensive) repair was needed. He suggested that I may want to purchase a new furnace because the repair was almost as much as the part for the old one. The best thing about the entire process is that there was no pressure, no hard sell, just several options with an explanation of each. My ancient furnace is 32 years old and the air conditioner is even older. No brainier, get the new furnace Installation was done the next day. Dan and Dave did an excellent job, They were friendly and efficient. Dave walked me through the new programmable thermostat and said to call if I had any questions. We installed a new counter top and needed a new facet installed, new sink hooked up and dishwasher reconnected. When we checked out their website we file out an online form for what we were wanting done. Within 10 min of submitting it, on a Friday night, we received a call from Dean's. I spoke with a scheduler who was very polite and professional who had appt. available in my area the same day. On the day of the appt., Dean's called 45 min ahead to ensure I'd be home for the plumber. The plumber, Michael, arrived, very friendly and wore booties over is shoes while in our home. He was professional, efficient and didn't leave a mess when he was finished. He broke down the charges for each project so I was aware of the final bill up front with no surprise charges/fees. Travel fee was a flat $69. I'd suggest becoming a Dean's Club member, it will save you money on your current project and in the future which also covers heating and cooling. read more

Do not use Dean's Home Services. In my opinion, they use unethical sales tactics. They contacted me to schedule an annual evaluation. At least that was the impression I was given. When I asked over the phone if they could look at an issue I was having while they were here doing the annual evaluation, I was told they could. I asked if there was a cost associated with that, and I was told there wasn't. However, when the sales representative was in my home I was told it was not included and would cost me $225 for them to look at it. Unfortunately I felt very pressured from the sales rep and signed a document to get them out of my house. I tried working with them and they state that I wasn't told it was included. However, they will not provide me with the phone conversation. Ultimately, yes I should not have signed anything so shame on me. I just wanted to make people aware of how Dean's treat their customers. read more

Deans Electrical quoted us $1,249 to replace two fans and an outlet. The electrician was here less than 2 hours, and we supplied the fixtures ourselves. When the flat rate was presented, we assumed there must be major work involved to justify that price. Instead, the work was very simple and we realized we had been scammed. in addition, the workmanship was shoddy- one outlet was left unsafe (not flush with the wall, cover plate not seated properly, drywall cutout exposed in a bathroom). This was not just overpriced--it was price gouging. Charging this much for such simple work is unethical and exploitative of customers who trust them to be fair. We canceled additional services and will never have them back in our home. If you have had a similar experience, I strongly encourage you to report it to the Minnesota Attorney General's Office. This kind of business practice should not be allowed to continue. read more

I had a few projects that they attended to in the last 2 months, 1st one was basement floor drain clean out. Colin was fabulous from Deans, kept me in the loop the whole time. 2nd one was camera inspection of main line by Sam D from Deans, great guy. A liner for main sewage line was recommended and i went ahead with it those guys from Deans were great, Travis, Trey and Christian they did a super job kept everything spotless. 3rd one was toilet install, Don from Deans was the plumber who came and verified water leak, hell of a nice guy. Don recommended toilet and i went with it, since the old one was 70 years old. Don worked his magic on a Friday and he got me an install time the same day thanks Don. Nick from Deans came with new toilet and installed it Nick was great super nice guy. Everyone i dealt with from Deans was just super. Thanks Deans much appreciated with all you did for me. read more

This is my second, maybe third, review for Dean's as we keep going back to them for our house needs. We sold our previous house, after having a new furnace installed by Dean's, and bought a new one a few months ago. The AC died at the end of a very hot weekend, but it was also from 1990, so it served its purpose! Kevin and Joe arrived at the beginning of my estimated window and they were very kind, considerate, and inquired a few times if I had any questions on anything. They also took a look at the furnace and offered a few tips on the care and maintenance of that as well. The AC is in and working beautifully! And they even played with my 2 y.o. dog who wanted their attention. Dean's is always our go-to call with household needs and I highly recommend the company - everyone we've worked with and spoken to over the phone have been very helpful. read more

I wanted to share a great customer service experience that I received at 4 am and 8 am in the Sunday morning on 3/12/2017. The two ladies who answered my calls for an emergency service were so nice and very considerate about my urgent situation. My furnace stopped working late night on Saturday, and the room temperature was dropping fast. They took great care of me over the phone and took away my helpless feeling immediately. When I called again to cancel my Sunday appointment because I got a hold of the company who installed my HVAC system, the lady on the phone was again very nice and wasn't upset about the last minute cancellation at all. I couldn't thank Dean's on-call team enough for their outstanding customer service and attitude. I know for sure that I will definitely call them and use their services next time! Kim Lee read more

They did several things well....and there was a major fail. Schedulers are professional. The plumber sent was very competent (Tina). But they cancelled and rescheduled me twice -- they did arrive for the third appointment. I wasted 6 hours of work time only to be cancelled. And all they offered was a $50 discount for rescheduling me. $50 doesn't even compensate for one hour of work time! They obviously need to build in more give in their scheduling to favor the client -- in other words allow time in the schedule for unexpected things. Plumbing is probably often about unexpected things --- so build your schedule so the customer isn't inconvenienced. So if you have nothing else to do but wait for them, I could recommend them wholeheartedly. But if you have a life with other responsibilities, I recommend you try a different plumber. read more

Last year I had an emergency plumbing need. I was pretty unhappy with the performance of our previous plumber, so started making calls. It was a Friday after hours and I could not get anybody to respond until I called Dean's. After making the repair, I signed up for Dean's preventative maintenance program for $99 annually. They have been excellent with respects to contacting me to take advantage of the air, heating and plumbing preventative maintenance checks that come with the program. Tyler just came out today for a complete plumbing check. He was professional and thorough and found a few minor things to consider for action. I greed and he handled all while here very quickly. Pricing was fair (and discounted as a part of the P.M. program) and I consider the over-all program a value. A shout out to Tyler for outstanding service. read more

We've used Dean's a LOT over the last several months, and have always received terrific service from them. We recently purchased a 100-year old house, and have had to do extensive update work on the boilers, radiators, electrical, etc. Everyone at Dean's has been terrific to work with: helpful, courteous, professional. We most recently had Bryan at our home for electrical work, and that job led to another suggested job from Bryan - installing recessed lighting in our poorly lit living room. Bryan is incredible - creative, excellent quality work and very hard working, plus he's friendly and personable. I requested he leave several business cards with us - because of his amazing work, we're recommending Dean's to anyone we know who needs work done. We have a lot of work yet to be done on this house, and we're hooked on Dean's and Bryan. read more

I used Dean's for emergency repairs on a toilet on a weekend. As this is our only bathroom, it was imperative that it get fixed as quickly as possible. They were able to squeeze me in on a busy holiday weekend, which I appreciated. The technician was great. Jason K. was very polite and kept me informed throughout the entire process. There was no high pressure upsell as some other reviewers have mentioned. Even though it was late in the evening and Jason had already worked a very long day, he didn't rush through it and made sure that everything was cleaned up before he left. The only reason I gave four stars instead of five is because the appointment was supposed to be around 6 pm, but it was close to 9 pm. Even with that, I would definitively use Dean's again. We needed both furnace and AC unit replaced. Couldn't have had better men do the job. Both JC and David A. were professional, courteous, and hard working. Explanations were given at intervals during dismantling of old units, the lack of proper maintenance from prior owners was most evident. It is in my opinion still the responsibility of owners who choose to rent out their homes to numerous people to insure proper maintenance on property owned. Sad to say this has not been the case in home we purchased. Onward we go, as owners and residents we will continue to enjoy the services and care Deans people will provide us with. After a very full work day I came home to find a kitchen sink leak in my 4 year old home that went through the floor and onto the ceiling in my basement. Between hockey games, work and trying to figure out what to make for dinner, the leak was an unpleasant surprise in the dead of winter, to say the least. Tim L showed up early in the evening and stayed until he figured out and remedied the cause of the leak. He gave up a Monday night with his young family to help us out and I am very grateful. Tim was smart, professional and thorough, he also is very appreciative and dedicated to the company he works for, which I respect a lot. What a great company. Just had Jeff, from Deans inspect my 18 year old Lennox furnace. He took pictures of all the different components inside the furnace. After given 3 different options to repair We decided to get a new furnace and air conditioner. Excel and Lennox is giving hefty rebates for energy efficient appliances. Got a nice discount from Deans as well. Install in 3 days. I have read some of the reviews and can only conclude you just can't please some people no mater what u do for them. Jeff is an outstanding service tech. Never once did I feel he was trying to pull one over on me. I would recommend this co. in a heart beat. Had some electrical work done a couple months ago with the same high standards. Class A company. read more
