Expeditiously becoming obsessed with Happy Hour at Dearly Beloved. It's in my top 3 of immediate recommendations when someone is looking for GREAT cocktails and a chill vibe. George and I are seeing each other far more frequently than my checking account would prefer, he's fantastic, but I'm HOOKED on the shadow laurels and the love in the night cocktails. This review is for the old fashioned bartender event. This was such a nice surprise! We came here with a group of 8 friends. Tickets were $25 for 8 old fashioned tastings and 2 full cocktails. The space is cozy and the ambience is chic. We had so much fun walking around and tasting the old fashioned concoctions. Having been here shortly after they opened earlier this year, I was eager to return! The interior of Dearly Beloved warms my cold black gothic heart! It's as though they built a bar inside of an art installation, and I LOVE that. This visit, I came for their happy hour prior to attending their Curated Classics cocktail workshop. Happy Hour (4-6 Wed-Fri) is the WAY to dip your toes into the Dearly Beloved cocktail program with 1/2 price signature drinks. The menu is pricey, but each cocktail is so unique, you will want to try more than one. I enjoyed the Shadow Laurels (refreshing and approachable!) as well as the Dice, Brassknuckles, & Guitar (an inspired, moody riff on a Manhattan). I also went all-in on the Beloved Burger, which is elevated with bone marrow aioli and short rib marmalade! Absolutely delicious! To close out the experience, I splurged on the Blackout Cake, which is perfect for chocolate lovers who enjoy depth and texture. **Happy Hour Review** If you're going to check this place out, DEFINITELY check em out for their signature cocktails and vibes during happy hour. IMO the signature cocktails at full price are too costly ($20+) and small. These drinks are offered at 50% off Wed-Friday from 4pm-6pm. In total I tried 4 drinks: Beautiful & Damned, Hot & Cold Blood, Last Kiss and At Your Age. The drinks I would order next time: Last Kiss and possibly the Beautiful & Damned. The Last Kiss is a full mind blowing experience - how it is presented, explained and how it tastes and smells is game changer. 1 of the best and FULLY executed experiences I've had while drinking. I would pass on the At Your Age - for me it taste like artificial orange juice annnnnd that's it. The naan is a cool bonus but overall the drink itself I would pass. The food was a miss for me, however, I'm glad they do offer food. I tried the lamb gyro arancini ($15) and the juicy burger ($21). Flavors were pretty good but dannnnng the amount of salt on everything took over and it was very unfortunate. I also think the portions of both items are too small for what they are priced at. Food service was on the slower side as well. My husband and I weren't asked at what temperate we wanted our burger, however, it did come out medium well, which was fine. The ambiance of this place doe? LOVEEEEE! The decor is angel meets devil at its finest. It's spooky, fun and beautiful. My five friends plus my husband and myself booked their NYE party which they advertised that it was a "Gala." Nothing about the event said it was anything other then a typical Saturday night. We paid $175 just to have a table for which it took an hour for us to get our second round of drinks of a VIP all inclusive package which was an additional$106 on top of the table. The event was only three hours and by 9:45 (Event started at 9) the only food they had was fry's which were not passed hors d'oeuvres was an open buffet, again falsely advertised. They had a DJ playing dinner music all night which you would not find at a gala event, you would find dancing music. We were so disappointed on what they advertise and what they offer is this was nothing but a typical night Grab a drink, but yet they charged us 300 and plus dollars for that with nothing close to a Gala event. read more

Stopped by with a group of friends after our dinner. It's located in a fairly quiet part of the surrounding river north area - there is plenty of paid street parking. This place is dark and dreamy and features a variety of seating options - seats accommodate those who are eating a full dinner, sharing appetizers or just lounging with drinks. It's a very interesting set up and the volume here is not too loud considering how many people are in the space. I believe Dearly Beloved is from the same group that runs Machine Engineered Dining and Drink in Wicker, so their approach to their drinks are really interesting. I'd say it's like entering a lab and getting something you've never had before! There are a lot of pros and cons to this experimental vibe though - you'll either get a really good drink or you'll get something 'experimental'. There were 7 of us in the group and we were seating at the back at what looked and felt like a conference room table surrounded by reflective black walls. I think they need to add couches and accent chairs here because the set up made it feel like we were going to have a conference meeting. But if you're having dinner, it would also feel like you're eating in someone's house. Very murder-mystery-esqe vibes if you ask me. There is food available but we came for drinks. We had to QR code the menu - This is the one time I actually wished that they had a hardcopy of their menu. I think they need to actually have visuals of their drinks because every drink is so unique and I feel like the average person would not understand the language used. The Love in the Night was very pretty and tasty! The Shadow Laurels tasted like watered-down juice. The Espresso Martini might actually be my favorite Espresso Martini in the city. Their spin on it represents exactly what I initially imagined an Espresso Martini to be! Please, please try it if you are a latte lover!!! The Last Kiss was sooo interesting and was recommended by our server. It was definitely a show and the palo santo smoke was nice but the flavors of the drink didn't vibe together - it also looked like sewage water. We all had a sip and agreed it was not good at all. Our server actually took this drink off our tab and the manager came to check in on us so that was actually really kind and left a good impression on us. I got the soda pop which is a zero-proof cocktail. This was very delicious and is up the alley of a 'dirty soda'! Loved it and would get it again!!! Wow, this place is fantastic! The vibe inside is dark, moody, a little futuristic, and floral. I loved the impressive decor. Dearly Beloved is a "cocktail restaurant" with very unique and interesting drinks, but don't sleep on the food. I tried two cocktails: Love in the Night and Last Kiss. They were both delicious but Love in the Night was my favorite - the coconut horchata chai foam was so tasty and I loved the creaminess of this drink. The Last Kiss had a nice presentation with smoked palo santo. I tried several items from their kitchen, including the potato and caviar cigar, which was a perfectly crispy potato filled with creme fraiche and topped with caviar - so delicious! I also got the maitake karaage and the French onion ramen. The karaage was a nice portion, easily shareable between two people for a starter. I loved the yuzu caramel which gave it a bit of sweetness but also some acidity. For me the star was the French onion ramen with rich, savory broth, tender and delicious braised short rib, and a blanket of melted cheese. SO good. The chef told me that this was his homage to the former restaurant in this spot, a French bistro that as beloved in the neighborhood. I thought that was so cool, and the dish was delicious. I'd definitely order this again. I even had leftovers the next day and they were just as tasty! For dessert I tried the mango sticky rice, which was presented a bit like a cheesecake, with the rice in a graham crust. I really loved the flavors of the dessert and it was a lighter way to end the meal. The blackberry granita was the perfect addition to the mango and rice. The drinks were good but the food was better! They have recently changed the menu so there are different drinks and food to try even if you're a regular. I ordered the charred octopus and it was amazing! A bit oily, but the octopus was perfectly cooked, not chewy but nicely tender. The flavors mixed together and the lime aoli added a surprise of flavor when you got it in a bite. It is not an easy dish for sharing so I would recommend it more as a meal for one, but it is a good portion for one and easily eaten in one sitting without feeling overly full. The service was incredibly nice. Water was brought out almost immediately upon arriving without us having to ask for it. We went during the rush so the service was a bit slow but as long as you're patient, it's well worth the wait. Despite the waiters being swamped with people, they were always very kind and didn't show their stress. The place itself is decorated masterfully. They had great drink deals for happy hour. I loved the mini martini with a small portion of fries. They definitely do a very interesting take on their drinks. I think their cocktails were a little too exotic for me! They are definitely on the higher price range if you do not go for happy hour so I'm not sure I would go back to pay full price. We were able to pick where we wanted to sit. For drinks I have the smoked fennel margarita, the At your age cocktail and the love in the night drink for dessert. For dinner we split the carrot mochi which was so delicious. Savory Carrot Pillows in a Coconut-Red Curry Sauce with layers of carrots prepared differently. The Okonomiyaki which had this crispy delicious cabbage topping on it. Highly recommend. I had the burger for my entree with these amazing, delicious, flavorful homemade chips. Omg. Try the chips!! Both were great. I felt the burger needed a little more flavor but it was juicy and a great sized portion. Service was great. The chef came around to our table. Issac was an excellent server who catered to our silly requests. All staff personally signed birthday cards for my friends birthday. I want to first start off by saying the ambiance and decor are beautifully done. The entire vibe of the place is exactly what me and my husband go for. We were only in chicago for the weekend and I was super excited to try this place. Unfortunately, that experience turned sour pretty quick. I tried to order off menu for a drink and the waitress wasn't having it. She redirected me a few times to the drink menu and offered suggestions. I politely declined them and she even left to "give me time to think" which was not going to change my mind. All I wanted was a plain old margarita. We had plans for food and drinks there but we decided to leave and go somewhere else since I could not even get the type of drink I can handle. We went to this location for dinner for a birthday. Reservation was 7pm did not get to a seating area until 7:11pm. They area was set up for eight people, but 2 of the "seats" were small square ottoman. The table was extremely low, and small, which would be hard to eat on. This was not doable for us. After speaking to a manager, we were given the option to wait until another table leaves, or else we could choose to go to a different resturant, if the wait would be too long. We decided to start off with drinks and waited around 30 minutes until a real table with real seats opened. Once seated it took a while to order food. Overall service for our table was slow. Food comes out as it gets ready. Which was not a problem for us. Three people in our party got the steak frites medium. They believed the steak to be chewy.
