Very charming little cafe with great food and great pie. Excellent location, very quintessential holland

We were looking for a lunch spot downtown Holland and Crane's was exactly what we were looking for! They offer a variety of sandwiches, salads and soups. I had the downtown club without ranch and added pesto. It was an incredible sandwich. The bun was fluffy and fresh tasting. The pesto was also very flavorful. All quality ingredients! My boyfriend has the Caesar salad with a cup of chili. We didn't love the chili, but it was ok! The Caesar salad was just a normal Caesar salad. They do not have waitress service. You order at the corner and they bring your food out to you. When you are done eating you bus your own table and leave your dishes in the tub near the trash can. They have a water station that is for everyone to use so you can refill your water cup whenever you want to which is very convenient. The seating is a first come first serve basis. They don't have a ton of tables but luckily we were able to snag the last one when we were there! They also have their well loved take and bake fruit pies and crisps for purchase! There is free parking in front of Crane's, but it is limited. We had to walk a few blocks because we couldn't find super close parking. Overall a great spot for lunch! I loved it and I would definitely visit again.

More of a quick lunch or grab and go place, but they do have nice seating inside and outside. Welcoming staff and interior.

I love this place. It's nearly as good as a visit to the Orchard and Pie Pantry. The only difference is nostalgia. Ambiance: The seating is quite limited as it's a smaller restaurant. You walk up and order from the counter and walk past a whole display of delicious looking pastries and baked goods (genius). The style is very much "a visit to grandmas," with cute mismatched wooden tables, chalkboard signs, and decor. Food: While rather basic offerings, they are one of my favorite hidden gems in downtown Holland. They have tons of different sandwich options, and I absolutely dream about their fresh, hot cider. The food always makes for a perfect, charming lunch while I'm downtown working. And, I never leave without getting a dozen of their cider doughnuts - don't miss out on these! Service: Sometimes the service is on the slower side as the restaurant is always busy, but it's absolutely worth the brief wait.

I love this place! Great for sandwiches or a salad. They are pretty quick, but still need to wait like 5 minutes for your tasty sandwich! The restaurant is a walk up to order and wait for your food at your table type restaurant. It is located in historic downtown Holland and the ambiance is a nice homey/country vibe. Come for the sandwiches, salads, and incredible slices of pie (or two!)

I love the original Cranes bakery and apple orchard. It is so nostalgic we would go as kids on family trips to Michigan, go apple picking in the fall and load up on apple cider doughnuts and other goodies. This location is on the Main Street in downtown holland and is really convenient. I get chocolate pecan pie by the slice, a favorite. I also bought home a frozen cherry pie for my mom, she loved it. Same great quality.

Finally made it to Crane's! The chili is a good one as advertised, it is a sweet chili pretty mild but good flavor. We also got a Reuben I don't know why I didn't take a picture. All the flavors from the suave, sauerkraut, meat were great just like a Reuben. My only complaint for $9 it seemed a little scant on filling could have used an extra slice of the meat some more girth to it. Apple cider was delicious. They know what they are about and they make quality stuff.

We spent the afternoon in downtown Holland. A very nice sales rep. from one of the local shops recommended we eat here. They had a good selection of sandwiches and salads. We were told they also have great pies. We ordered the chicken salad sandwich and the BLT. They were served with a bag of chips and a pickle. Note: You order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. The sandwiches were delicious. They were grilled in a panini press. The pickles were yummy too. Our server was a young man who was very nice and professional. The only thing I didn't like was that it was dark inside. Luckily one of the 3 bistro-like tables outside was free. It was a beautiful breezy day; it was a great first experience.

For a business that has been around since 1916, I expected more. My family and I visited for a Sunday lunch in July (kudos to them for being open when many businesses are closed Sundays in Holland). The food quality was terrible, but they did shine in a few areas: 1) Food: This is where they lose three stars since food is kind of a big deal for a cafe. My ham, cheese and pesto panini was so bland there might as well had no pesto on it. It was like eating air. My toddler's grilled cheese was a simple grilled cheese that cost probably 25 cents to make. She barely touched it. My wife's Caesar salad was the worst she's ever had. The ingredients weren't fresh and it was worse than a college's salad bar. Where they did shine: 1) Service: It was quick and friendly. 2) Masking: A sign on the front door asked all customers to mask up regardless of vaccination status. Most customers shook their head at the sign and refused to wear a mask. Despite this rudeness, staff wore masks. If you need a quality meal, I recommend skipping Crane's in the City and just go for their pies.

Such a cute place! Wanted to visit and loved the ambiance! The city Cristi was very good and the pumpkin latte. I was not impressed with the apple cider donut.

Yummy pies and apple cider donuts. The Apple cider donuts are just a must try. I had half of a grilled cheese sandwich on rye. It came with a pickle and chips. Of course, I had a slice of their cherry Pie. Yum! I ended up buying a whole cherry pie to take home. Their menu has salads and sandwiches. If you just want dessert, then you can choose any slice of pie and make it a la mode. They do sell frozen pies and gallons of apple cider to go. Parking is street parking and limited.

I love this place but the raspberry pie was a huge disappointment. Fortunately there are lots of other choices for next time.

There was ample parking when I went after work around 5:30 and one other group there eating already and saying how much they enjoyed their food which got me excited. I walked up to the truck and the gentleman behind the counter gave me some pointers and said what he recommended. I ordered the Bird Mac with tots. This burger has shredded pickles, caramelized onion, thousand island dressing, and American cheese. Very much a classic and I thought that would be a good place to start. The flavor was delicious and the tots went really well with this burger. I asked for garlic aioli for the dipping sauce. I think next time I'd love to try the Mac Daddy because Mac and cheese on a burger is very intriguing! Would recommend this spot because the food was good and the service was incredible! Thankfully it was a nice day and I could eat this on the back patio but you could also get your food to-go as well:)

The food is good, but not usually worth these long wait times imo. Today, was a cloudy and cold Wednesday mid morning. The place was busy, but no long wait times. The food is always good. Everything I've ever eaten on the menu is good... but I have a special affinity for pig 'n the blankets, banket, and any Mexican inspired breakfast item in the menu. Today I had the chorizo Benny. It was fabulous and worth the $15 imo. Our waiter, Pedro, was the best! He's worked there for over a decade and knows the family that runs this restaurant--- 3 Dutch brothers--- he gave me a run down on the lore and all the pictures are of their family photos hanging around the restaurant. I think that's pretty cool. They will be opening and expanding into a new restaurant location on the corner of River and Lakewood Blvd sometime in the near future. That location will have more of a "hipster" vibe with breakfast cocktails, etc. Check them out when you want... but if you don't want to wait come during off peak hours and off season times. Make sure to peruse their bakery for some goodies to take home. Salud.
