Terribly constructed burrito. Falling apart; each bite 90% one ingredient while that ingredient will be absent through every other bite. Prices are I guess what you'd expect in an airport, but it adds insult to injury as I held my crumbling, grease soaked handful of random Mexican ingredients. Suppose I have to take responsibility for getting a braised rather than grilled meat option, but the barbacoa was absolutely swimming in grease. I ordered guacamole and chips and was amazed they can even serve what they gave me as "guacamole". It was strangely watery with no actual avocado taste. There are chunks of cucumber in it which is what I'm assuming they use to make it "bulkier" for less money than using more avocados. I was in search of something good for breakfast while waiting a couple of hours for my flight. I decided to stop at the DeColores Burrito Joint. The menu was simple and the set up was similar to a Subway, but for burritos... More like Chipotle then. The price point seemed high ($10-12) until I noticed how big the burrito was. This is not your ordinary McDonald's breakfast burrito. They really do mound the fillings. The flavor was great and the burrito did not fall apart when I ate it. The downfall here is that all of the ingredients are cold. A cold breakfast burrito does not make a happy stomach. I ate my expensive void-filler anyway while daydreaming about a microwave to put it in. I guess airports have decided that microwaves are too dangerous to keep around. This place was absolutely APPALLING!!! From the food, to the prices to the service, IF U SEE THIS PLACE RUN!!!! For starters they need to cross train the cashiers to assist w/ food assembly line. It really isn't rocket science to sprinkle cheese on tacos!!! Second it's $13 for 3 tacos (enough said) and the price wasn't even listed on the menu. THIRD THE SERVICE. When I finally reached the cashier she rung up my order and begin to hand me napkins, salsa and bags of chips. I had 3 to go containers and my carry on bag in my hand. Some how she must have figured I was gonna magically grow extra arms to carry the items. After I paid, she didn't take notice that I needed a bag, so I HAD TO ASK FOR ONE!!! So as she proceeded to have a personally conversation w/ her Co-worker I'm waiting still for the bag I asked for. She finally pulls the bag from under the counter and hands it to me. I handed it back to her and asked her to please put my items in the bag she told me No you can put it in the bag!!! Yes she told me to put my own items on the bag after I paid $57 FOR 4 ORDER OF TACOS!!!! I firmly told her NO! YOU WILL PUT MY ITEMS IN THE BAG THAT IS YOUR JOB, so please do that!!!! The lack of CUSTOMER SERVICE AT THIS PLACE IS THE MAIN REASON FOR THIS NEGATIVE REVIEW! I really hope you all see this post and put into action more appropriate training methods to improve this huge business deficit that exist at this location!!! Don't let the "modernized" look fool you. This is the most cheaply made expensive burrito I have ever payed for. They try to make it seem nice by adding expensive sounding ingredients and then slack on the fundamental rice, beans, tortilla, meat. None of it has flavor. The burrito we ordered was beyond disgusting, how do you mess up a breakfast burrito so bad? I know airport food usually comes with low expectations, but this was simply gross. The customer in front of me was complaining about the price. Then another lady came up and was complaining about the food. I came up next to the register, and my order came out close to $40 for two burritos and two coffees. I paid for my order, but was simply not worth it at all. The food is average but in an airport, that's probably better than usual. I had something similar to a veggie bowl which included beans, rice, guac, salsa, nachos, spring mix and hummus. It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either. However, it was kind of pricey at almost $13 a bowl. What I liked was that the service was fast and speedy and even though there was a lineup of 7-8 people, I was served within 5 minutes, which is pretty good. read more

Just had 3 delicious tacos de barbacoa. Mini corn tortillas of course. Only cilantro, pink onions, and their red salsa. Perfection. You have to order them this way specifically, since they seem to default on the wheat tortillas. I'm pleasantly surprised with this high quality food in an airport. Service was a bit slow cause they actually warmed the tortillas on a grill with oil like they supposed to. Worth the 3 min wait. I was initially really excited to see that DeColores had expanded their pull and opened up a location inside of Midway Airport. Having lived in University Village, I frequented their Halsted location semi regularly. Well....my excitement dwindled as soon as I began eating my meal. I ordered the three taco meal (2 Al Pastor and 1 steak). The Al Pastor had beautiful flavor and tenderness, but I don't know that I've ever eaten anything quite this greasy in my life. With every bite there were just puddles of grease dripping from the taco. At the Halsted location, tacos are served authentic style with cilantro and chopped onions. This location had some onions that had been mildly sweated out. They weren't caramelized, but they weren't raw either. They were pseudo cooked and it was just weird for a taco...or really anything for that matter. The menu stated that each taco came with certain toppings (eg the Al Pastor taco was topped with pineapple, which is pretty standard) but I was dismayed to see that they used a Chipotle style approach in which the customer picks from a lineup of (bad) toppings. Like what's the point of outlining toppings on the menu if I still have to pick them myself. I was just confused. The final straw were the tortilla chips...the nerve of them to serve those dry chips without any sauce. I'm a fan of tortilla chips that are thin and crispy, almost transparent. These were thick, tough, dry and poorly salted. If you're gong to attempt to eat them I highly recommend at least pairing them with some salsa or guac. I'm sure I'll be back at Midway soon, but I will not be back to DeColores Burrito Joint. read more

I really want to like this place since it's more flavorful than the other food court options, but I won't be returning after my experience today. There is too much cross-contamination. I saw one of the cooks spill juice out of the meat into the fryer with all of the chips. That should've been my clue to leave, but I ordered a veggie bowl nonetheless. Not amazing, but they get the job down. However they are VERY overpriced. A good option for a quick breakfast, I stopped by when I noticed the mile long Dunkin Donuts line and thought no thanks... I got a potato and eggs burrito, the contents of which were filling, salty and savory, everything you'd want in a breakfast burrito. It was not very well mixed though so, by the time I got to the bottom of my burrito I was chomping on pure egg which I didn't love. I know it has to be quick because it's an airport, but throwing small portions of food into a burrito and charging the price they do is not worth it to me. The taste too was slightly disappointing as well. The cowboy burrito tasted bland and not a balanced flavor throughout. The steak quesadilla was also equally disappointing; it was small, lacked flavor, and again for the price of it, did not meet expectations. Trying to navigate the new Midway choices and was sorely disappointed with this addition. Has potential to be great but poorly executed. I ordered before seeing the food (as they were yelling back into the line) - got a Barbacoa quesadilla. The meat was so greasy it actually soaked the entire tortilla, so they presented me with a runny orange quesadilla in a foil pan. I asked about it and the cashier said "that's how Barbacoa is." $17 later for that and a water it went in the trash after a couple of bites. read more

Maybe it was just me and my ravenous hunger but I absolutely LOVED the steak quesadilla. Maybe the other stuff isn't good here but the steak quesadilla is a must have. It's large, has tons of steak and cheese, and comes with a side of salsa, guacamole, and sour cream. Super greasy too, just the way I like it (just make sure you get napkins). I give it 4 stars rather than 5 because it's horrendously overpriced, however. 13.37 for a steak quesadilla???? Yeah, that's a ripoff, but luckily it taste bomb. read more

Had a chicken bowl, and I actually think they used good quality chicken and it was pretty tasty. Also, they gave you a lot. But it was exceedingly salty...and I like salty! Also, there were no beans ready, and I had to wait ten minutes...for beans at a burrito place! And they looked at me like I was crazy for wanting beans. Also, the add-ons are sorely lacking. For airport Mexican, I thought it was pretty good actually. I went with the Conchinita Pibil burrito (AKA pork). I don't know why they bother spelling out all the included ingredients on the menu board because it is Chipotle style...you tell them what you in the burrito. This place is okay. Was very unhappy about the new food options at Midway and didn't think I could go wrong with a burrito. While the prices are higher than the average Chipotle, they do give you chips and salsa on the side and more meat/rice/beans and GUAC FREE OF CHARGE(!). The service was really nice and much quicker than the reviews below (maybe they finally got their stuff together). Another complaint was that my burrito skin was half cold and half warm.
