I first tried Deeper Roots Coffee where I work, where they provide our monthly coffee delivery and we recently had a morning event where I needed 5 gallons for this event. You get hipster quality, without hipster pretension. It's a perfect spot for Oakley. It's mellow and warm and welcoming, with friendly staff and great music. It's a thoroughly unassuming shop from the outside and unless you are looking for it, you might just walk right on past. It's right next to Blue Manatee and even has an internal door that passes through. I'd personally like to see some other options on the menu like French press, but I like that their menu isn't as big as some places, which means what they do offer is well executed. Food is minimal, but they have snacks. They also sell coffee out of the shop. I had the chocolate croissant, but for my taste it was not good at all. I really didn't want to eat it. It had a weird eggy flavor or something that just didn't sit right with me. Vegan options include almond milk which is nice. I had the Honey Bear Latte which had local honey and cinnamon. It was well balanced, and not too sweet, with a nice foamy head on it (even though it was made with almond milk). They need to teach the baristas as Sleepy Bee how to foam up almond milk. read more

We were driving through Cincinnati late on a Friday night and needed some coffee for the last leg of the trip. We are so happy that we found this place on yelp! First off, it's adorable! It's a cozy coffeehouse, that made me wish that we didn't have to take our orders to go. We got a peppermint hot chocolate and a coffee, and they were very good! The peppermint was so fresh! Great new addition to Oakley! The space is cute, employees are skilled, and the coffee is visually and automatically appealing. No soy milk but they do have almond milk. Tasty latte. Awesome! Great location for coffee and food. I ordered the nitro and avocado toast. Nitro: great tasting with enough nitro to make it thick and creamy tasting. Very nice presentation in the chalice. Avocado toast: excellent and fresh. My only complaint is that I didn't order another one. Great place with a giant window for lots of natural lighting plus lots of nook and crannies to study. One extra reason for a 5/5 is that when they ran out of their quinoa bread for the avocado toast, instead of yelling to me behind the bar. One of the staff came around the bar and politely explained to me to situation and what the other options of bread were. I was very pleased that he was was respectful with the situation. I've never been to this location but I received 2 bags of whole beans in a coffee & tea exchange. I received 2 coffee blends that are both light to medium roasts, they're both fantastic! I live in San Francisco, home to a ludicrous amount of hipster 3rd wave coffee places like Blue Bottle, Sightglass, Ritual, Four Barrel, etc -- Deeper Roots is most definitely on par with all of those. In fact, I haven't been able to prepare the coffee in a way where I didn't like it. It came out amazing in v60, chemex, aeropress, and french press. Good to know there's damn good coffee in other parts of the country as well. For sure will be stopping here if I ever visit Cincinnati! read more

Super disappointed. I live close to Deeper Roots and was very excited to try it out. I went this weekend to get some work done. I was deciding what to order and the person checking me out was less than helpful when I was asking a few questions about the menu. There was only 1 food option left. There was a sign with the wifi, when my computer wouldn't connect I asked the 2 employees behind the counter for help or if there was another wifi I could use -- there were 3 Wi-Fi's that had some version of Deeper Roots in the name. They responded dismissively that the wifi frequently didn't work and if they got some time they would try to fix it. After 40 minutes, that time still hadn't come, and I still had no wifi (or even acknowledgement from the staff) and so I left. read more

This is a cute little coffee place located on Madison road not too far from Xavier University. I'm a student at Xavier and love to get off campus sometimes to try new coffee places and get some work done. This coffee place is conveniently located right next to a large parking lot so you won't have to pay for street parking! Overall, I would say the coffee here is pretty good. Featured in the picture is a lavender iced latte (mine) and a plain iced latte (my friend's). I liked the lavender iced latte because the lavender flavor was subtle and not too overwhelming like it is at some other places. I'd say the only downside of this place is that the seating is rather limited. But other than that I can't complain about anything else! read more

Tried Deeper Roots based on reviews for their great drinks and as a quiet study location. I love the ambiance and the baristas were very nice, but their drinks really fell flat. I got the Honey Bear latte due to barista & yelp suggestion, and I really couldn't taste the honey or the espresso, just milk with a slightly burnt foam. Also quite small for the price (and taste). Since I was studying for a few hours I later got a pot of the Silver Needle tea, which after the first cup was horrendously bitter, mostly due to the poor teapot design, where the needles have to sit in hot water until you finish your pot, making for some very over-steeped, bitter tea. However, the Gilmore avocado toast I got was great, and since I did not have their (allegedly awesome) drip or pour over coffee, I would come back again to try those. Go as often as I can for the coffee. (3-5 times a month) Today, we tried the toast, thick and delicious. I highly recommend it. We got the sourdough and 11-grain. One had strawberry and ricotta and the other had almond butter and honey. Almost as good as Abigail St honey and ricotta, but well worth it. read more

This place deserves every killer review it has gotten. Deeper Roots is, by far, my favorite coffee shop in Cincinnati. It is the perfect place to pop in during the week with your laptop to get a little work accomplished with a delicious latte or nitro and a piece of cinnamon bread for a sweet treat. Every employee is incredibly knowledgable about their craft and about their coffee. I've never been more excited to give a place 5 stars! Nestled right next to the Blue Manatee in Oakley Square, Deeper Roots Coffee was as close to perfection as coffee can get. The staff was friendly and the seating was ample. The atmosphere was calm and there was wifi and electrical outlets for you worker bee types. I know I have some work to get done this week and instead of my standard Starbucks "camp-outs" or sitting in my home office, I'll be coming here one day this week! I ordered a cappuccino and it was so wonderful I'm sure my father (who I went with) was annoyed I kept talking about it! It's rare these days that you actually have someone make you espresso the way espresso was supposed to be enjoyed. Well, they do it here! It was fruity and you could really get a sense of all the unique flavors of the bean, opposed to the overwhelming bitterness that can often come from a poorly made shot of espresso. The espresso was so delicious and flavorful I really should have just ordered a couple shots of it and called it a day. This place is so traditional - if you dine in, the barista gives you seltzer water to enjoy with your espresso. I've been served this way before at a coffee shop in Illinois and I can say it makes the experience really fantastic! Their menu of food is small but mighty; everything sounds incredibly tasty. I haven't tried any of their toasts but am excited to sample the one with strawberries and ricotta cheese--it sounds like the perfect afternoon snack! I was also informed about their nitro-iced coffee which sounds really cool as well. While exploring the place today, I noticed there was a connecting door to the book store so if they leave that open during hours both business are open, that would be super cool too. I enjoyed my experience at Deeper Roots Coffee! Everyone is friendly, smiling, and helpful! They brew their coffees traditionally, so everything from the macchiato to the caffe latte comes in a miniature cup. Most of the coffees contain local ingredients! They use loose-leaf teas, so all of their hot teas taste flavorful. The wood decor and the tables are quite simple, bare, and attractive. Since the shop is located in the historical Oakley neighborhood, there are eateries, groceries, and shops within walking distance to experience while you enjoy your drink! They share an entrance (inside) with the children's bookstore, so it's convenient to take a look at a new book without walking outside. I decided to get adventurous and order a caffe latte made with local, organic honey. It tasted mellow and slightly sweet! I appreciate this local coffee shop! I wish they had longer hours, though. Wonderful vibe and friendly baristas. I tried the honey bear, which is a latte so the coffee is a bit diluted down by the warm and frothy milk, which is not a bad thing. But the coffee is really robust and I wish I ordered something other than a latte to get more coffee. That's on me. I'm not sure if the honey bear has honey or not, but if it does couldn't really taste the honey but there was a hint of cinnamon. Overall good flavors and unique place. Anytime I can have something other than *$ is a good day. There is a parking lot with plenty of parking at 8:30 am on a Wednesday. read more

I was looking for a spot to grab a cold drink and a snack in Oakley and found Deeper Roots while walking down Madison. A sleek and unassuming storefront, the bright and airy interior has a few tables and a bustling counter helping people, get their have on the go. We sat on vintage, stadium seats while we waited for my order. Very cute nook to have a chat and a drink. After spying a pile of scrumptious looking pastries, I decided on a almond croissant (it was bigger than my hand) and an iced chai latte. The croissant was everything it should be - buttery, flaky, crunchy, almondy ... I was in heaven. All the other choices were equally tempting. My drink on the other hand quenched my thirst, but wasn't the creamy, spicy concoction that I love on summer mornings. The tea was weak and the spices weren't pronounced. I wouldn't order this again. I'd probably go with one of their specialty iced teas. They had a green and black tea option on the day I was there. This could be a five star place for some. With challenging, street parking, not much seating, and a weak chai, it's a solid four in my book. But, I'll definitely be back next time I need a breakfast snack while wandering the boutiques in Oakley. read more

I recently started drinking coffee and I have decided to try different coffee spots. This was my first place to go, and I am very pleased. There is a lot on this road but I found a meter right in front of it. I walked in and instantly was greeted. She was very helpful and explained all the drinks for me. Answered any questions. I ended up just getting a vanilla latte and everyone tastes coffee differently and I'm still new so I was not totally sold but it wasn't bad. I had my friend meet up with me and she ended up getting the honey and cinnamon latte but she had it iced. I think it would have been wonderful warm so I must go back! Absolutely amazing coffee and, although limited, they also have great food. I enjoyed the Gilmore and a pour over of Ethiopian coffee. They were both delicious and obviously fresh since I watched them make each item. Downfall: there are VERY limited tables. I believe there were only 5 total tables. When we got one, it was a great place to work. They don't have loud music playing, and since it's such a small shop, there weren't too many people causing distractions. Since moving to Cincinnati, Deeper Roots is our neighborhood coffee shop, and it doesn't disappoint. I've had an amazing iced americano, several cortados, espresso, and pour over coffee. The service is quick and friendly. I can usually grab a table or seat if I want, despite the number of customers who hang out on laptops. My friend says the crossaints are moist and delicious. Seems like this location needs a little TLC. I usually frequent the OTR location and love it. Today I came to the Oakley location expecting to get the same level of pleasantness, but it was not the same. It just didn't seem like things were kept up very well ex) both chairs I tried to sit in were very wobbly. There was one single person bathroom, which needed to be plunged. I watched the worker place an out of order sign on the door and leave it -- maybe someone was coming to deal with it later? Idk but I just wanted to leave after that lol. Also heard the workers cursing multiple times which i don't really care but made for a different type of environment. Love the coffee and food though. read more

I've been to this coffee shop a couple times already. Today we ordered the ginger spice latte, coffee of the day, and the Cortado. The Cortadohas been on point Every time I've had it. I prefer my coffee to not be sour or have a sour aftertaste. In addition I do not like the over roasted flavor of Starbucks coffee. The ginger spice latte was very flavorful and enjoyable. I really enjoy this coffee shop for its simplicity and delicious coffee and pastries. The outdoor space in the back is very cozy and comfortable. One thing that's slightly puzzling is that the counter space is limited and so is the space around the counter space...you wait for your coffee there, it's not brought to you so it gets a bit crowded right there. Deeper Roots fulfills all of my local coffee shop needs. 1. Amazing coffee, lattes, macchiatos, and cold brews. They have an impressive menu and often offer seasonal flavors. My favorite is the Honey Bear, a latte with local honey and cinnamon/spices! 2. Yummy munchies to pair with your coffee - they have a toast menu that is perfect for a light bite to eat while you sip your drinks. I have had all of the toasts at some point but really like the ricotta and honey! They also offer pastries (come early because they often sell fast!) and Hen of the Woods chips. 3. Free (and reliable) WiFi. The connection is quick and there is no time limit so you can seriously work for hours in here (speaking from experience). 4. Plenty of seats and tables so you can study, work, read, etc. I have come here when it's quite busy and all the spots are taken, but more often than not I am able to snag a seat. 5. A seriously awesome taste in music. I always bring my headphones when I come here to work but never end up using them because they are always playing such great tunes! 6. Easy parking. Luckily the shop is right next to the public Oakley Square lot which always has openings, so parking is never a hassle! 7. Bags of coffee and brewing accessories that make taking Deeper Roots home with you easy! I try to grab a bag from the shop whenever I am here so I can brew my own at home. This is a perfect place to stop into and grab something to go, or settle in for a few hours and get some work done. I am a loyal customer! read more

I have found myself enjoying Deeper Roots more and more, every time I stop in. Having first checked this coffee shop out about 2 years ago and not loving it, I haven't been back in until the past month. But I've stopped in twice in the month, and I am very fond of the place! It's very pleasing, aesthetically and the customer service is wonderful! When I came in the second time, the barista working remembered that I was vegan and was more than willing to work with me! That alone makes the shop stand out above some others. Not only is the espresso delicious but so is the food. They have a variety of toast options with toppings such as avocado and pickled onions, almond butter and honey, etc. The avocado is a MUST! Macadamia nut milk is also an option for alternative milks, and I would recommend trying it 100%! I'm glad that I ventured out of the same shops typically frequent so that I could rediscover this asset of Oakley. read more

A fine cuppa. Friendly folks and excellent brew. I had a honey bear. Honey is not usually anything like I would ever want in my brew, but this was truly delicious. Everyone was pleasant, but businesslike, the line was 3 or 4 deep. The restroom was spotless and an appropriate temprature. I enjoyed this very very much. read more
