Although I've only been coming for a couple months, I have quickly fallen in love with this place. First, there's a really nice well stocked shop when you enter. Second, there's a very nice gun shop offering help with gunsmithing as well as a great ultrasonic cleaning service. Third is the range itself. Very nice... 5 lanes very well lit and ventilated. There's also an area where you can rent a SIRT pistol session if desired for dry fire practice. There are a lit if class offerings offered as well. I currently am enrolled in a 10 week basic defensive pistol group with Bruce and just completed a basic red dot pistol class with Patrick as well. Tons of class offerings on the DPAC website including if you're interested in getting your concealed carry permit. The staff is very knowledgeable and between them have tons and tons of experience in the military and law enforcement. On first visit you need to do a one time safety orientation for $15 which registers you in the range system. Range time is $20/hr and they have targets available for purchase as well so a great value! DPAC is also a registered USCCA range and the instructors are USCCA certified. As far as safety goes, everyone is stickler for range protocols which goes a long way for making me feel safe! If you enjoy shooting, I highly recommend Deerfield Pistol and Archery Center! Not sure why this place is marked "Closed". The winter hours just kicked in, so it's more open than it's been in the last few months! This is a fantastic place to go to try out a new handgun, purchase holsters and belts, or purchase uniforms and equipment if you're in the PD or other department. The range itself is well-run, and the owner is very trusting of the shooters. When you're the first one in, you get to start up the lights and ventilation, and you're expected to turn it all off when you're the last one out. The price to shoot is a little higher than I'm used to, and there's no memberships available (you can buy discounted combos of a certain number of hours of range time, gun cleanings, etc.), but they're pretty nice facilities and the only thing in the area unless you're in a gun club. Even if there were other options around, I'd definitely have to recommend DPAC to any shooting enthusiast out there. (There's also archery stuff, but I don't really have any interest or knowledge there, so I'm not reviewing that aspect) read more

My husband and I came in tonight-me for the first time, and he hadn't been there in a couple of years. The woman at the counter was rude and made us both feel unwelcome. When we were done, my husband went to pay and told me that the woman at the counter seemed irritated that he had bothered her. I have heard great things about DPAC and while the range was nice, today's customer service was very disappointing. Update: The range reached out to me less than 24 hours after I wrote this review. The apology came directly from the employee. They asked that we give them another shot, and we would be glad to as we liked the range. I have doubt that our next experience will be great. read more

Today I took a beginner one on one rifle (AR-15 22LR) training with Bruce. It was a great experience. Bruce is a great instructor, he has very good knowledges on firearms and safety . I would recommend anyone who is interested in rifle beginner class. I also took a handgun training with John a few weeks ago, it was really great too. read more

I was in the market for a hand gun for home defense and was shown a used glock by one of the workers. I specifically asked why the owner sold the gun back to the shop and was told that he did not have any issues with the gun, just wanted a different type of gun. I believed that was a reasonable answer. After shooting the gun it misfired twice while on the range downstairs. I brought the gun back upstairs with my concerns. The gentleman who I bought the gun from was no longer present. I expressed my concerns over the guns reliability given previous events, and was told that the guy who initially owned the gun had a host of problems, like double feeds, the slide not locking back at the end of the clip, the clips falling out, etc. I was SHOCKED and very upset, as this was in contradiction to information given at the point of sale. The owner was not in until later, so I said I would wait to speak to the owner. I eventually spoke with the owner and was told he will take a look at the gun himself. Or if I wanted, I could receive a full refund if I brought the gun in and dropped it off. I dropped the gun off and the owner was not present again. I spoke to one of the lady workers that I was dropping off the gun, that the owner was supposed to give me a refund as I do not want the gun any longer. Not to mention I was given false information about why the owner sold the gun back to Deerfield Pistol and Archery Center. No problem right, they were going to give me a refund... WRONG. They never contacted me and never issued a refund. So essentially I bought a gun that was unreliable and returned it and they have not refunded me my $545... DO NOT EVER BUY ANYTHING HERE, this place will rip you off, and then not refund your money when you have issues. Thanks for the robbery Deerfield Pistol and Archery Center. read more

Listen, this is where you want to go if you are looking to get your CCW certification. On my way to the class, I was worried about whether or not I was going to be able to stay awake. I realized early in the class that I was NOT going to have that problem. The instructor, John is so engaging and passionate about educating people about the responsibility of owning and using a gun. The class is three hours long and believe me, the time flies by. It really does. After class, you go down to the shooting range where John will inspect your shooting technique and help you if you need it. This place also offers an aray of firearms, classes, and apparel. I will be taking additional classes here to learn more about how to handle a gun and just to come shoot [once i get a little better]. The people who work here really care about gun safety. John is a firefighter and avid gun aficionado and Eric who also works there is a cop who trains other police up in madison. These people know what they are talking about and if you have the chance to work with them, do it. read more

Came here with a group of 5, 2 of whom were first time shooters. We had purchased 4 groupons - one for 2/lane, and then the other 3 were for single lanes. Before arriving I didn't realize they only have 5 lanes in the range, and so they had to put all 5 of us split between two lanes due to other people using the range. It was slightly disappointing that we couldn't get what we paid for at the time, but I didn't complain and we still had a good time! I may bring this up with Groupon to see what they say though. Aside from this, the staff were really helpful since most of us didn't know which gun to rent, and they gave us a basic tour of the range policies before letting us in. The range is small but well-kept and well ventilated. Slightly different from other ranges that I've been to, shooters keep the gun cases on the back wall of the range and only bring the gun up to the firing stall, reloading at the back wall as well. The lighting is pretty good and the electrically operated target carrier works well. Prices seem pretty standard for range and rental fees. They also have full auto weapons for rent at a slightly higher price, but I didn't want to pay extra for that this time since the groupon included a handgun rental. In terms of the store I didn't look around too much but they seemed to have a lot of selection with both gear and firearms. I think it's a good idea that they separate the gun section from the clothes and gear section. This is the second range I've been to in the Madison area (the other is a private outdoor range, so not really comparable) and this one is great for new and experienced shooters alike. Be aware that you may have to wait to get on the range, because they only have 5 lanes. I got here right at opening time on Saturday and we still didn't get enough lanes. read more

My wife and I made an appointment at Deerfield Pistol and Archery Center to look at a gun for her. Upon arrival, we tracked down the fellow we spoke to on the phone and he cordially showed us the gun that would, in his opinion, be best for our needs. During that meeting, another employee came by and butted into our conversation about "what would happen if the gun jammed." This was not helpful to my wife or I in any way. It seemed like a fear tactic of some sort, since we were only trying to determine the best and easiest to operate semi-automatic for a woman (who had previously only shot a small revolver) to operate. The suggestion was made that my wife take a basic training course which would allow her to shoot the suggested rental gun on their indoor range. This seemed pretty reasonable at the time, and we agreed to do that without really discussing the costs. Once the small talk was over and the course was signed up for, we were informed that the 2-hour course cost $125. I paid without complaint because, in all honesty, we never asked the price (fool me once....etc). Come the day of the course, my wife went and was impressed with the instructor who seemed like a retired police officer. She was impressed with his knowledge and ability to patiently show and explain all the related information. Upon completion of the course, however, the instructor informed her it would be another $40 for the use of the gun and expended ammo. Once again, we had not been told of this extra fee until after the fact. OK, two bad experiences....ever the optimist we plodded on and asked about purchasing the new version of the gun that was recommended to us. The store employee said that they didn't have the gun in stock and didn't know when they would have one in stock. When asked about a small cash discount (less that 10%) on the retail price of the gun because of all the money we spent with them on training, we were told, "No" as guns are selling so well, we don't need to offer discounts. The lack of professionalism by some of the store staff leaves a bad enough taste with us that regardless of how well the trainers do their job, we will not go back to Deerfield Pistol and Archery. The next day we went to a different gun store and purchased the exact gun we decided on for less than Deerfield wanted without having to wait an undetermined amount of time for them to get it in stock. We got the gun and the discount essentially (because the gun wasn't marked up as high as Deerfield) and our faith in decent salesmen has been restored.....kind of. read more

They will be able to answer most of all your questions regarding firearms. They also have concealed carry classes for local and multistate options. Its the only range I have every used so it's hard to compair but I like it and the staff does a great job.

My son had set this up, and he has never really went to a range before...so I wasn't expecting much, especially since we drove over 50 miles to get there. I was pleased how thorough they were with the orientation and "tour" of the facilities. My son had rented a handgun and halfway through the bag of ammo, he had a problem. We rang the buzzer, the man in charge came to investigate, and asked my son what pistol would he like to replace this one and brought him one down with a full bag of ammo. I know service is something we expect, but we rarely see....now that was service. I did not pay my son did, but on way home he said the gun rental was $20 with 50 rounds of ammo??? What a great deal for someone who wants to try out a different weapon. I will be back. read more
