Deerfields Bakery has been around since I was a little girl and then some! It is such a wonderful Buffalo Grove gem! Within the last year or so my boyfriend and I started going for breakfast. It is sooo good! The menu is pretty simple, but we really appreciate it. I love the "create your own sandwich" the breakfast potatoes are wonderfully crispy and delicious too. Of course the important part of this review is discussing the bakery! It is a delicious and beautifully displayed bakery! I would happily and easily trust them to create something special for any kind of event! They make the most fun cookies as well! Excellent products - their food is top notch. Freshly made, never bothersome, kid friendly, tasty. Then why the 3 star rating? Mediocre service. their customer facing staff and telephone staff - they are such a mixed bag. There's a good apple here and there but the folks manning the counter are usually so grumpy and snappy. I get it - working in retail is tough. Plus may be You've got a boyfriend problem or maybe your kid bit you in the ankle this morning. But if all I'm trying to do is a simple transaction and you look at me like "why are you even here?" Then it leaves a bad taste in the mouth. I'm not trying to invade your bakery lady, just want to eat some cake. That's all. Try calling them in the afternoon on phone, especially their call center - you'll get a snapping turtle go snap snap snap at you like she hasn't eaten in 3 days. It's a shit show. "D" for Disappointing! I have purchased baked goods from here in the past and had good luck, other than the fact that they are very pricey. This review is in reference to a custom cake order. Decoration: The cake LOOKED beautiful, but I had asked for magenta and got a pinkish red. It was not place on center on the cakeboard - not sure how that could be so difficult but what can you do? You're pretty much screwed if you want to serve cake. Taste: I figured - well it doesn't look like I wanted but I'm sure it will taste great. Wrong again! I was pretty shocked at the taste. My husband thought the frosting had a bitter/acrid taste. I didn't get that, but it definitely didn't taste delicious - which is what you would expect when you pay $62 for an 8" cake. In fact, far from it. It was passable, at best. The texture was heavy and by the way it cut, it seemed like it had been "sitting" for a few days in the fridge. With each slice, there was a wet crumb mush stuck to the knife - like cake that sits too long. The fresh strawberry filling was good. Everything else, not-so-much. Service: I think this was the worst part. When you are in an industry that provides a key focal point for a wedding, birthday, christening, etc, at least act like you're excited for the person's event. Say "Congratulations" or "That's so exciting!" or something to make the person feel like you think it's as special as they do. For you it's an everyday thing and you lose sight of the impact of the event. Also, if you call and leave a message, don't count on getting a call back. My husband called once and left a message - never got a return call. I called and left a message and also never got a return. I got through to order because someone actually picked up the phone after I dialed the number twice. Bottom line: If you are looking for a beautiful cake that tastes meh and service from automatons - this is the place. I'm super disappointed - I really thought it would be top-notch. read more

My parents' paczki order inspired me to review Deerfields Bakery since I realized I haven't reviewed it. The Buffalo Grove location is near my parents but I have also gone to the Roselle location for cakes. The paczkis were good! I tried the Birthday Cake flavor. Personally, I have had cakes from the Buffalo Grove location and Roselle. Deerfields is my go for cakes if I am in charge of planning a shower or other event. Any cake I have had from there has been both beautiful AND delicious. Things can be a little pricey but you are getting a quality product. You can be confident in your purchase. read more

Had breakfast here this morning, I chose build your own sandwich, you choose your bread, cheese, meat and eggs, I asked for mozzarella cheese and tomato on white bread, I asked if it was a grilled sandwich which the person said it was. The bread was toasted and burnt, not grilled, they gave me 1 thin slice of mozzarella that didn't even cover the toast, 3 slice of tomato, the mozzarella was not melted, it was so thin that I couldn't even taste it. The potatoes were under cooked. I was charged the same price as my husband who had bacon, eggs and cheese on his toast. Very disappointing. Won't be back again. read more

I purchased my baby shower cake from DF bakery and couldn't be happier! I pieced together a few different elements from some cakes they had on their website as well as my own inspiration photos and they perfectly put it all together. I thought the ambiance was great; we sat by the mini waterfall outside on the patio. Everyone was friendly when we ordered (kinda cafe style). I ordered the chorizo tacos with avocado and a fruit cup. I liked the portion size; the food was plentiful. Everyone was friendly. But...the taste of the chorizo & eggs was just standard, mediocre & safe. It was decent. Anyone can open a packet of chorizo seasoning, sprinkle it on the meat & call it chorizo. Their foray into making small pizzas is a nice addition to their hot food offerings. However, they need to switch to corrugated cardboard pizza boxes for the to-go orders. The reason being is that the boxes they use for pastries is way too flimsy, especially when dealing with the unforgiving environment of a pizza: hot dough, liquefied lipids, and melted cheese will eat through a standard cake box. If your packaging worked well, Lou Malnati's would be using it for their carry-out and delivery pizza orders. But they don't. They use corrugated cardboard, packaging, along with *every other pizzeria* on the planet. read more

We get our Paczki from Deerfield Bakery every year and they again were outstanding. My wife and I decided to go back and try some of their donuts and other pastries and they are also amazing. They cake donuts are perfectly cooked and topped generously. We tried a little bit of everything and it was worth taking a drive on a winter morning. The staff there is polite and moved through the crowd swiftly. Overall, a very solid bakery and one to check out if you are in or around Buffalo Grove. read more

It's been awhile since I've visited Deerfields Bakery; however, I was in search for some Dutch Bread after returning from a trip to the Netherlands and saw that Deerfields carries it. Unfortunately, it wasn't quite the same; however, I did find their cafe and it's quite a great place for breakfast and lunch! For under $10, you can have a breakfast skillet or corned beef hash or omelette. They also have some other egg and meat combinations like sandwiches or 2 x 2. You get plenty of options for a delicious and freshly made breakfast for a good price. The donuts here are also very good and they have a lot of variety. And the raspberry peach lemonade is also delicious. We will be adding Deerfields to our morning repertoire. The cafe is closed Monday and Tuesdays. When we got engaged, my husband and I knew we wanted to have a cake tasting at Deerfield's. My husband had raved about them for years since they provided the birthday cakes at his office and I was excited to finally get a taste for myself. Given COVID protocols and just general availability, we opted to do the at-home tasting kit. We placed the order online and picked it up within a couple of weeks. Don't think that because we did it at home it was any less thorough--we had at least 20 mini-tastings of frostings and fillings and 10 single servings of each cake flavor. We were so glad we invited my MIL to help us taste at home! To help us make sense of everything, the kit came with a guide where we could take notes and rank our favorites. When it came to finally placing the order, our contact Debbi answered all our questions. She recommended the size of the cake given the guest list, what fillings may or may not go well with the type of cake flavor and made it clear what was and was not included in the final quote. The day of the wedding, the cake was delivered first thing! We opted to have a naked cake with minimal frosting given our aesthetic (and that we in general aren't a fan of frosting) and the team executed this vision as desired. Not to mention it was DELICIOUS! The bottom two tiers of our cake was marble with cherry filling. Our top tier was carrot with cream cheese frosting. We are not carrot cake people but this one was so good, we had to have it just for us. Recommend Deerfield's for special events and every day bakery goodness! While I'm not a huge fan of the donuts or cookies -- the other baked goods (especially ones with lots of butter) are done excellently at Deerfield's bakery. What really sets it apart from the grocery store products is the use of lots of fresh nuts, fruits, and more premium ingredients which gives a much nicer flavor than the use of gels, powders, and juices. Recently it seems like the recipes have been refined to be less sweet and focus more on fresh ingredients, although they do still seem to be a little more sweet than other higher end bakeries. Definitely give their almond croissant, bear claw, cinnamon rolls, and fruit turnovers a try on your next visit. The bakery items are a little pricey, but definitely worth the cost. read more

Deerfields is a very high end bakery. They create the most beautiful cakes and cupcakes, cookies and other gourmet pastries. However, though they are beautiful, they are also extremely expensive and actually don't taste very good at all. Last year at Christmas we bought and adorable cake that was built to look like Santa going down a chimney, but we only intended to use it as our center piece. Everyone raves about them. However, I have been trying to order a special cake for my granddaughter who is about to turn 5. I have a question about the order and can't do it online.
