4 sliders, waffle fries and a side of queso

First of all a high-five to Spencer, the most energetic, friendly and efficient waiter we have encountered in a long time! This restaurant's sign caught our eye and we thought...why not? Housed in a former Denny's or Shoney's means it is roomy...but some of the seats show their age. The BBQ was nothing extraordinary but definitely tasty. The mac & cheese needs some work as the pasta was mushy. Choice of two sauces (1 sweet and 1 hot ) I would return if in the area again.

From Saratoga to Atlanta, I headed west because I love the Smokey Mountains, I spent a fair amount of time within them. But I had to get to Kentucky by lunch - 24 East 40 East Chattanooga - Knoxville - ten hours of driving already. I wanted to drive the Kentucky back roads of horse farms & wildflowers. My buddy's '65 Mustang died along his way to meet me - it's been giving him problems, some fuel pressure matter this time, so I sat on the patio with Iris and ordered the Pretzel that the server recommended. Beer cheese and another cheese dipping modifier, the suggestion was perfect - and we waited sitting just off the highway - it'd have been nice to have a beer but the road sometimes never ends, it always starts again. Finally the Stang rolled in - we ordered away. Dry rub wings for me - double combo of meats and sides for him. The drumettes were so plump, oddly more meaty than I prefer which I realize sounds weird - but I like just a bite and a half per - and I much prefer wings to drumettes. With such an abundance of chicken meat, I consumed about thirteen out of fifteen and took the rest. The star penalty is for the prepackaged blue cheese, Ken's brand I believe. It was not capable of proper dipping due to its rather small circumference and bland taste.

Combo no.2 with pulled pork and brisket (pass on this, there's an up charge). Optional slider buns. Good chips and green beans.

I've driven by their sign on 65 a few hundred times now and always giggled at the name. I mean, it's silly and that's why I find it so amusing. I'm from Memphis, love bbq, and judge it accordingly. Was this the best I've ever had? No. Not by along shot. Was it good? Yes. Well, parts of it. Pulled pork? Solid. Brisket? Kinda dry. Burnt ends? Meh. Home made chips? For sure. Green beans? Oddly, yes. Their sauce? The saving grace. It was nice and sweet, but not too intense. Was slightly disappointed I couldn't buy the sauce by itself. Would go again. The place looks crummy on the outside, and I'm not sure what's going on in the surrounding area , but inside is nice and clean. I'd go again, for sure.

Awesome service! The food was delicious and a generous portion for the price. We even had leftovers. The brisket was amazing. Definitely recommend this location!

how can you pass up a sign that says "best bbq in town" ?! #yum #ReviewsByRL

Just off 65, saw a sign that said "the best bbq in town," so how could I pass up trying that?! It was last Saturday, a little past lunch time (2pm), and not busy. My server was fast and pleasant. I ordered the Combo #1, which was pulled pork and two sides. I got the peachy baked beans and the cole slaw. The bbq was a decent portion, and good, but a little on the cool side. I added both the regular and spicy bbq sauces that were on the table. The peachy baked beans were served piping hot and were really tasty and really the star of my meal. I had some left overs to box up, and my server also gave me a drink to go. #yum #ReviewsByRL

Yes we came here because of the name. It is a little bbq joint in Elizabethtown Kentucky. We both got the combos one w chicken one w brisket. Sides of coleslaw, potato salad, beans and green beans. You also got a side of bread and I did the corn cakes. Their corn cakes were pretty good and all of the sides were amazing. The 2 sauces in the table were good. The one was very vinegar based. The other one was my favorite. The brisket was moist and the chicken was good. Would eat here again for sure.

Wings & pulled pork with sweet bbq sauce, thank me later! Will return. We ordered 20 dry rub and had three different sauces in the side and a kids meal pulled pork. The girls liked plain, my guy and me were on the Sweet BBQ & waffle fries.

Over the past few years I've been sampling different BBQ places over the Midwest primarily, and this place is quite the contender. When We walked in the staff was kind enough to let us know that they had sold out of a few items. Sadly, a couple primary items like brisket and ribs, but this only made me want to check it out even more. Jessica was quite the highlight and very helpful guiding us through the best options for what we wanted and what was available. Plus, we we're looking to share so she grouped things together to help with cost savings. We ordered pulled pork sliders that were very tender. Then pick either of the two sauces, hot and spicy or sweet and savory, and then that pork is nicely elevated. That came with waffle fries. We then ordered chicken tenders, and this was the real deal chicken. These thick chicken tenders were nicely breaded and cooked perfectly. They also have a full bar. Enjoy!

Great food, looks a little old on the outside but well worth a try. Wife loved the brisket and I had ribs and really good pulled pork.

Sunday, 18 January 2026…read more Met friends at J.R. Neighbors for lunch. According to my friend, the have the best burgers in Etown! ‍ There are a few parking spaces directly in front of the restaurant (maybe 5, with 2-3 slots being reserved for handicap). There are nearby parking lots with plenty more parking. As it was a Sunday, we had no trouble finding parking. There were a few people ahead of us, maybe three different parties. My partner and I did not have to wait to be seated since the friends we were meeting had already arrived and got a table. We greeted our friends then reviewed the menu. Since it was around 12ish on a Sunday, only the brunch menu was available. Not long after, our waitress arrived to take drink orders. Shortly after that, and after the drinks arrived - pineapple mimosas, apple juice, and water, we ordered our food...mostly everyone had a burger. I had the Texan burger/sandwich which came on a Texas toast, hence the name, and my partner had the Newberry Smash burger (double). Each came with a choice of "regular" fries or tots. I wanted sweet potato fries, but again, since it was Sunday, only the brunch menu and what was displayed was available. So, I settled for regular fries. My burger was good albeit a bit messy with the sunny side egg running everywhere! The bacon topping the burger was perfectly done with the right crispy/crunchy consistency. My mimosas was refreshing except I did not get much of a pineapple taste. The fries were fresh and appropriately seasoned, not too salty and not too bland, just right. We were all full from our meals so we did not even consider dessert! The restaurant was busy but not overly crowded, so the atmosphere was quite. We sat by the windows and were not even distracted by the outside vehicles passing by. Overall, we had a pleasant experience and would recommend J.R. Neighbors to anyone looking for good burgers in a good atmosphere in Etown.

The rolls and cinnamon butter were always something I was fond of and looking forward to but their recipe seems to have changed from what I recall. The cinnamon butter wasn't as sweet as I remember it, and the bread not as hot and soft. I ordered a sirloin with salad and sweet potato. The steak was delicious, the salad not as robust with vegetables as I recall, and the sweet potato aggregate of cinnamon and butter not quite the same. I'm not sure if the recipes changed as they normally do over the years or whether I just don't appreciate it as much. Either way, I wasn't as impressed as I have been with other restaurants offering steak, salad, and sweet potatoes. Service was great. Hunter did a great job serving our needs and making sure everything was as good as it could be. They do offer a 10% military discount when you ask, although it's 10% off the main meal. We saved $1+. All four of us at the table were veterans and apparently eligible for the discount but it was only applied to the one meal. They have a virtual waitlist that you can add your name to in advance which I recommend to avoid too much of a wait.
