    Puneri chicken thali

Absolutely loved the food at Dehaati! Tried the Ko Puneri Chicken Thali, Kolhapuri Chicken Thali, and Chicken Kharda and honestly, everything was just outstanding. Each dish had such authentic Maharashtrian flavors. The chicken was perfectly cooked, and the spices were spot on without being overpowering. You can really tell they know what they're doing in the kitchen. Overall, a super satisfying meal with great taste, nice vibes, and good service too. Definitely a must-visit if you're into proper Maharashtrian food!

Found an authentic maharashtrain restaurant in Sunnyvale. Ordered puneri chicken thali and meethi bhaji bhakri. The tambda rassa, the pandhra rassa plus the chicken sukka were the best. The thali was served with soft bhakri and roti. The taste of entire thali is just homemade. Meethi was bhaji was just ok. I will not recommend it. From the moment you walk in, the vibe is refreshing unpretentious. Just warm hospitality, the intoxicating aroma of freshly ground kolhapuri spices and the kind of energy that says we are here to feed you not impress you. If you know kolhapuri food, you will feel right at home.

They claimed to serve authentic Maharashtra flavor.... And they delivered!!! Being Maharashtrian myself I have strong opinions when it comes to my food. I'm so glad that this place worked so well for me. I went with the big group so tried many things. Puneri chicken Thali: Pune is region in Maharashtra which is famous for vegetarian food. I was curious about chicken dish. In rainy season near rural areas there used to be some small roadside eateries which used to serve chicken cooked on wood fire with amazing Smokey flavours. I took one bite of this dish and it reminded me of that Smokey flavor. Perfect ! I highly recommend this. Kolhapuri Mutton : Kolhapur is the region which is famous for meat and spicy broths - red broth( tambada rassa) and white broth (pandhara rassa) these rassa were delicious and very close to real deal. Mutton itself needed bit more kick to qualify for authentic Kolhapuri but taste is good. They have kept spice level of meat moderate which is good for our NRI crowd. Thecha chicken : spicy chicken with green chilli marination. Another perfect authentic taste. Obviously this is hot yet really Yummy ! Quantity is really great, One more star there ! To balance spices try their refreshing drinks. I would recommend Kokum sarbat which helps cool down acidity. The place was very crowded. Hence the service was bit slow but attentive ! I need to come back to try more dishes !

If you're going to Dehaati - Maharashtrian Kitchen expecting the usual restaurant routine, servers checking in every few minutes, small talk between bites, you might be surprised. And honestly, that's the point. Here, the food takes center stage. Ordering is via QR code, and once your meal arrives, you're left alone to do what really matters: eat. No interruptions mid-mouthful, no performative service, just you and a table full of deeply authentic Maharashtrian flavors. It felt less like dining out and more like being invited into someone's home for a proper feast. The Kolhapuri mutton (I had it as part of the thali) was one of my favorites. Rich, bold, and a good balance of spices - the kind of dish that doesn't hold back. The pandhra rassa instantly transported me to Kolhapur, subtle and soulful, while the tambda rassa brought the flavor as its perfect counterpart. The alani rice was a nostalgic surprise, simple, comforting, almost childlike in the best way, like the kind served to toddlers (or adults) before they graduate to spicier fare. And the chicken pakoras? They felt like a clever riff on kanda bhaji with chicken, crispy, familiar, and a solid appetizer. The bhakri paired beautifully with the mutton, grounding the meal in exactly the way it should. Around the table, the chicken sukka brought back memories of slow, comforting Sunday lunches at home. And then there was the chicken thecha (kharda), just flat out incredible. A fiery green chili gravy that doesn't just wake you up, it rings your bell, in the best way possible. For those who know Hindi, this dish truly lives up to: "dimaag ki ghanti baja de!" This wasn't just a good meal. It got the flavors right, hit every nostalgic note, and for a moment, took me home. Easy 5 stars.

Last weekend thali quest - a fairly new restaurant, I kinda try new places in their 3 month of opening..as they (chef n restaurant) are more motivated to offer the best quality..and some do maintain for years. It's apparently a popular chain in Pune (I haven't tried in India)..especially for mutton curries. Try getting in prior to noon to avoid peak lunch time rush. Ordering is seamless with QR code on each table..and boy the service was rapid once order was placed ! Perhaps base thali's are already setup - it was a great experience. I ordered the egg thali and noticed rice portion and roti(chapathi) would be inadequate as I had starved n post a workout - so ordered additional side of rotis thru the QR code and was promptly served. Yes, the thali is not unlimited. Instead of another egg rassa, wish they had dry egg masala instead. The spice levels were just adequate and not too spicy. Being a pescatarian, wished there was a fish thali..and hope they would add in future. My spouse ordered their popular mutton thali which actually comes with egg curry, pandra rassa as well as bhakri (regional millet roti) n chapathi each. Heard the mutton was delectable and tender cooked and enjoyed the medium spice level too. Nice additional maharashtrian offering in Bay Area..will check out their vada pav and other menu items next time. But if you like chicken or mutton - definitely check this out! Parking can get tricky in small parking spot, although there are side street side or backside few spots in case if there is overflow during peak times.

Simple homey place for Maharashtrian regional cuisine. What Indians call "homely" meaning it evokes the fresh, healthful tastes of homecooked food. Thali is the focus; offered at lunch and dinnertime. The decor is spare but elegant, evoking the regional style. The best restaurants tap into nostalgia and emotion. We traveled in the Maharasthrian countryside to visit jyotalinga temples, and the experience at Dehaati stirred our memories of those vibrant green fields and rural villages. We tried all vegetarian dishes. The vadi had rich flavor of besan and came with a bright green chutney that we loved. The vegetarian thali was good. My favorite thing was the yellow dal; very clear, true flavor. I also liked the pink buttermilk, that had a unusual, savory, refreshing taste, that I think was kokum? The bhakri that came with it was a delight -- so fresh, soft, redolent with the wholesome taste of millet. Masala chai was hot and delicious. Our food was lovely, but looks like they really shine in their non-vegetarian dishes. My husband noticed the eyes of the non-vegetarian diners were glowing with satisfaction. Service was excellent. They responded quickly to our requests, despite the din and busyness of a full restaurant. Tables were full and everyone looked happy.

I read my fellow Yelp Elite, Pranathi's fabulous review of Dehaati Maharashtrian restaurant here on Yelp and rushed there tonight. The restaurant was fairly empty and the whiff of freshly fried vada pav was in the air. I was confident the food was going to be fab and it was! My husband and I ordered 2 kolhapuri mutton thalis, solkadhi, rava fry and alni rice. The thalis were very delicious! The pandhra ( white coconut base chicken stew) and tambda rassa (red chicken broth) were both on point and extremely satisfying. The mutton in the thali had that authentic masala from back home. For now, there is unlimited rassa (both) and chapati/bhakri on the thali per individual. They are in their soft opening phase and by the looks and taste of it, are doing a great job! It was wonderful to speak to Raj, who is from Mumbai and he went above and beyond to make our visit pleasant. Solkadhi was on the house for us and very delicious too! It had a prominent kokum flavor. We heard some people talk to Rohan, the face behind the delicious food here and I must say, there's some real good Regional Puneri food being served here. Finally we were served some ice-cream to end our meal which was also on the house to mark it an exceptional dinner. Dehaati was every bit delicious and on point and it must be on your list for your next visit. Be kind to them as they are still in their opening phase and are experimenting with flavors and portions. We cannot wait to visit again!

This is a relatively new place, so I want to provide pointed feedback, so they can make improvements. Plus - very friendly and helpful staff - online ordering system is very efficient - vada pav - veg thali - unique decorations - good ambiance Minus - kolhapuri food is supposed to be spicy - it was not spicy at all - the dishes had less salt in them - when we added salt, it got the flavors out more - the non veg thali had the red and white gravy but the value for money on the veg thali was a lot better - the chapati and Bhakri was too dry - not enough damping - noise level was high Also, the phone number listed on Yelp and Google is incorrect- hope they update it, so people can make reservations.

This restaurant serves kolhapur chicken and muttom thali and its closest to home if i had to choose from other restaurants in bay area. The tambda and pandhara rassa were as is you would get in kolhapuri. The food is not very spicy given that people from everywhere come to eat here. Enjoyed our thali here. Service can be slow. You could have to wait to get waiters attention. Ambiance is clean, washroom is clean, well kept. Hope the quality stays the same.

***USP: food from the state of Maharashtra, India. Very similar to surmai, solkadhi. Flavorful curries, rassa, thali, solkadhi etc. ***AMBIANCE: simple yet colorful, restaurant is pretty spacious as well. ***FOOD: we got the thalis. I personally got the chicken kolhapuri thali which came with the chicken curry, a little egg curry, two varieties of rassa, two varieties of breads, rice, dessert and solkadhi. The rassas and breads are unlimited, rest of the items are not. The rassas were sublime and extremely soul satisfying. They were served piping hot as well. One rassa had a delicate yet rich taste of cinnamon. I thoroughly enjoyed the rassas and kept asking for more. The egg curry had a thick delicious gravy as well. The chicken curry lacked a bit of flavor aka salt and my reason for the reduced rating. Prices are also a little too high. The kids thali came with some kind of kichdi instead of the rassas. The kichdi was similar to congee and very delicious and heartwarming.

Dehaati is the absolute best Indian food in Sunnyvale, look no further. The food alone speaks for itself, however, if you have the opportunity to dine in the atmosphere is very relaxed, authentic Maharashtrian and beautifully decorated. The food is flavorful and bold, the consistency is always on par. I got the Mutton Thali and my wife got the Jowar Bhakri and Pune Style - Chicken Sukka . it's so perfectly cooked with right spices and cravable, the texture and flavor doesn't compare to any other. The mutton curry was cooked and seasoned to perfection with the Tambda Rassa. Some of the other dishes I recommend are the solkadhi and the unstoppable delicious Pandhra rassa ,you will be asking for more which they gladly provide with the thali number of times.

You know how some restaurants try to impress you? Dehati just feeds you. And that's a better deal. I went for the mutton Kolhapuri thali, which is exactly what you should do unless you enjoy regret. The mutton curry is the star, not loud, not trying to prove anything, just rich, tender, and deeply satisfying. With bhakri, it just clicks. No effort required. N's chicken thecha had zero interest in being polite. Bright, spicy, wakes you up instantly. If the mutton is a warm hug, the thecha is someone saying, "are you alive or what?" K's Puneri sukka chicken landed quietly and perfectly. That rare "this tastes like home" moment, which is basically the highest compliment food can get. The pandhara rassa and tambda rassa were solid, comforting, doing their job without needing attention. Some things showed up and kept expectations realistic: Solkadhi just ok Alani rice was... rice Chicken pakora existed But you don't really care, because the mains carry everything. By the end, you're full, happy, and a little slower moving ready for a nap. Just someone cooked properly for us happy. 5*** . Not because everything was perfect, but because the important things were.

For a Saturday morning, the energy was calm -- a good sign for a small spot that could easily get overwhelmed. The waitress set the tone early. Warm, unhurried, she asked how we had heard about the place before taking the order -- the kind of question a restaurant only asks when it is still building its crowd and actually wants to know the answer. Filter coffee arrived without delay, hot, no shortcuts. The upma and mini tiffin combo followed. Portions were generous and the food arrived warm. But dish after dish played it safe right up to the edge of forgettable. The upma had correct texture with none of the assertiveness that makes a good upma worth finishing slowly. The sambar leaned thin. The chutneys were there, present and accounted for, doing the minimum. Everything assembled correctly, nothing bold enough to make you look up from the table. Meenakshi Bhavan gets enough right on a weekend morning to be worth knowing about -- clean space, genuinely warm service, honest portions. The waitress clearly takes pride in the hospitality side of things. The kitchen needs to match that energy with a firmer hand on the seasoning. Good enough for a familiar weekend breakfast. Not yet good enough to become a habit. The paintings on the walls that were Indian and Tamilnadu related was great, but the other art work seemed out of place, not sure what the thought process there was with the management. Things where this could improve: Coffee taste can improve (may be sourcing from a different coffee vendor may help, seemed like a standard Narassu's powder from a grocery shop near by that probably was at least a few months old) Chutneys need a certain kick and that was definitely missing. Cleanliness can be improved for sure.
