The food here is FLAVORFUL and Generous portions so why wasn't I impressed? Well...let me tell you. First this is an extremely small restaurant. There are only four large booths that sit six, and one table that sit six in the main dining area. In the back seating area there are two tables that sit four and one table that sit six. When I walked in I saw that all the booths and the one table in the main dining area were completely full. I was not greeted. I felt like I was standing right in the middle of times square with all these people around me being completely ignored. I walked over to the cash register when finally someone came out from the open kitchen and acknowledged me. She seemed frustrated because all the seating was full of people, and the back three had dirty dishes still on the tables. She asked someone to clean a table in the back for me and then I was seated. (I was sat in the corner looking into the open kitchen) I was brought out the menu, chips and salsa and water. I have to say their salsa is really, really good. Very tasty with just a kick of heat. The chips were thick, crispy and a little to greasy for my liking. The menu is very limited with only tacos and burritos. Different types of tacos and burritos, but non the less, it still comes down to just tacos and burritos. I opted for a smothered chili Verde burrito, and when it came out I was shocked how Huge it was. I also noticed the sauce is not what I'm used to when I order a smothered Burrito. It's the really thin watery kind with a hint of grease. Uggg I've had this type of sauce before and I don't care for it, however it was very flavorful. So you can imagine when I cut into it, and saw that the inside was filled completely with rice it was such a disappointment. RICE! That is why the burrito was so HUGE! Nowhere on the menu did it say it was filled with Only Rice. I couldn't eat it all, but noticed they had flan so I left room for that or so I thought I did. The waitress didn't come over to check on me. They were busy with the other tables and then I noticed they were working on a huge take out order so I was left in the corner unattended just staring at them busying themselves. I was patiently waiting when they finally came over (probably because I was staring so intently they got uncomfortable.) I ordered the flan with no whip cream. Did it come out with whip cream? Yes, it did. I was just going to wipe it off, but one of the other waitresses came over and said that I didn't want whip cream so they took it back into the kitchen which took a while for them to bring a new one out minus the whip cream. I asked for them to bring me the bill right away because I didn't want to have to wait any longer. Remember they were giving all their attention to the main dining room, and the take out order. When she brought my bill out it already has the cash price, and the credit card price with the 3% fee added on. There is a sign on the table that says if you pay by credit card you will be charged 3% fee. So be warned. My total price for lunch came to $20.00 that included meal, fee, tax and tip. read more

This restaurant has changed hands so many times. Now it is a Mexican place and boy would I love to get a mix combination of tacos but sadly not here. You have to order all 3 to be the same. My favorite item happened to be the Mexican rice, it was flaky and delicious. The rest was just average. Not sure I would return unless with a large group to try other items. read more

Good food, service was good. The only thing I dislike is that they charge a fee for using credit or debit card so bring cash. Also they charged extra to change the enchilada sauce. We didn't add a other one but idk why they have to charge to get a less spicy one. The chips are the best! I'm a little scared to write this review lest the secret of Salt Lake's diabolical taco-lords get out to too many people. These folks set the Bar(rio) at a new height for SLC. Try the cheesy al pastor tacos -- as someone who famously hates sweet things infringing on savory, I was hesitant to try them but they are SO. GODDAMN. GOOD. Come hungry because these bois are thicc, juicy, and come three to a plate! Also amazing are the birria tacos (of course), the chile verde, and ANY of their homemade lemonades -- I like the ginger the best as it's blended with enough fresh, pulpy ginger to make your tastebuds pucker in ecstasy. read more

The food here is fabulous! The service, impecable! The Al pastor is among the best I've ever eaten. The pork tamales smothered in Chile verde and cheese satisfied me for hours after I ate it. The chips were freshly made and perfectly seasoned. I loved the flavor of literally everything I ate. The entire staff was super accommodating and friendly. They were quick and got our order perfect. I only gave 4 stars because the portions are ridiculously small. The rice and beans that came with my tamales was less than 1/4 cup of each. Seriously like 3 scant spoon fulls. The tacos come on the smallest tortilla they make. We ordered chips and salsa to go and the salsa came in this tiny little cup and the small brown lunch sack was only half full of chips. For what we paid, had we eaten anywhere else, we would have left overs for a day or two after. Where the food was delicious, and the people delightful, I don't know that we'll be back for the small amount of food at these prices. read more

Phenomenal tacos. Got the Birria tacos and even got them to go because I only had 10 minutes to eat and they were still on point. I can only imagine how much better they would have been if I had the time to sit down and take my time with them. This place was bustling for lunch on a Tuesday and the menu is jam packed with some great options. I saw several smothered burritos that were the size of the plate and looked at least 10 inches long so I'm looking forward to trying one of those next time. These guys were fast and SO nice- awesome family owned place with the warmest vibes and incredible food. It'll definitely be my go-to spot in the area for Mexican and I can't wait to work myself through their menu. Staff is super friendly. Smaller dinning area, but plenty of room for our group of 7. The free chips were delicious. Just the way I like them, a little crunchy. I ordered 3 tacos with shredded beef. Winner winner mexican dinner. The only reason I knocked off one star was because we drove around the block twice after making a U turn to try to get in the tiny parking lot in our big truck. Other than that, it was a great experience. The employees were very friendly--like family. Ari was our server and did an excellent job. We ordered guacamole with chips, bottled sangria soda, birria enchiladas and tacos (which were so flavorful), rice and refried beans. We were too full to try desserts, but they looked good too. Del Barrio! Stopped by for a late Saturday lunch. We didn't have to wait to be seated. This is in the old Mekong Cafe spot, parking is a bit tight but it works. We ordered chips and salsa which costs fyi, but it was only a couple of dollars and the chips are fresh made, thick and tasty! The salsa had good flavor but wasn't spicy. We ordered the order of 3 of the Birria and Al Pastor tacos and shared. Both were delicious but the Al Pastor was better in our opinion. We also tried a side of beans and a mojito drink which was refreshing. Overall everything tasted so good! Service was friendly and efficient. Stopped by on a whim and man I'm so glad we did! Service was quick and friendly, and our meals were packaged well for take out. I tried the chicken tamale special, smothered with pork Chile Verde. It was so delicious, clearly fresh and homemade. My wife had the chili Verde enchiladas and really enjoyed them. The horchata was outstanding as well, very well spiced. Heard good things about this place so we wanted to try it out. Sadly, it was not that great. Maybe it was an off night? We had the Birria and El Pastor tacos, and both were very bland. No real flavor, other than the pineapple (oddly) on the el pastor ones. The rice and beans (side for extra $) were even more bland. Like zero flavor. The quac and the chorizo and pork chili verde was pretty good though. But, the price vs portion was ridiculous (same for price/portion for side of rice and beans). Both taco orders were large and filling. But boy did it miss flavor. Service was just ok. Water slow to be refilled. No real out of the way service. Add to that the additional 3% surcharge for paying by credit card is silly. The prices are higher than they should be anyway. Work this CC fee into the price of food and don't make me feel like I'm being nicked and dimed. CC's are the price of doing business. Was really hoping this place would have lived up to the hype. Sadly, it did not, and all I got was an upset stomach. Should you choose to try this place, I hope your experience goes better than mine. read more

There wasn't one thing that warranted the three stars, it was a multiple things that were "meh" or just ok that won't have me going back anytime soon. To sum things up, food seems overpriced for what it is. While has good flavor and big sizes, it's mostly filler. If it had more protein maybe it would justify the price. Speaking of prices, there is clear signage that you get charged more for using a credit card. It's a small space so you wouldn't think the staff would be overwhelmed but don't plan on a quick meal here. Takes a bit to get your order in and food on the table. All these minor issues just add up to a pass for me. There's plenty of similar options that don't require as much work in the area. read more

It has been a while since I've been blown away by Mexican food in UT. Hands down the best place for tacos!! Had to try their famous Barrio taco with consume. Delicious. Came out on an attractive platter. Tender meat and flavorful. Salads were great and the lime was a nice touch. Should be noted you order on the phone by scanning the QR code on each table. Pretty good Mexican food here at this little restaurant in SLC. My sister frequents this place often and recommended it for their birria tacos and their chorizo quesadilla. I'd say for those two items alone it's worth stopping by. Here's the spread best first, and we had leftovers. - Chorizo con papas quesadilla - This was excellent, would recc. getting one for the table to share, apparently there is also almond in this as well. - Beef birria tacos - Finally some consumé with flavor! I was over the birria taco craze, but these tacos these are worth giving the trend a second chance. - Flan dessert - If you're craving flan they make a good one. - Michoacan tacos - Fried pork served with pico and guacamole to dress. The chips and salsa provided are good as well, chips taste homemade. They give you a green and red salsa for the tacos. I'm a native to Arizona living on the border (43 years)and frequent the best of the best joints in LA also. The culinary scene here is some of the most bland and basic you'll find in this country. Trying Mexican her can be traumatizing to anyone that knows Mexican food. I just moved here and was missing home and in the area. I got 3 different style tacos to test the place. Now there are some definite utah typical executions but I was really really surprised. Their chips and salsa are free so you can't really complain but definitely miss the traditional Mexican mark. Their tacos are super oily so that was a little disappointing. Greasy to a point is what you expect and want but this was to much and they can't quite master the crispy exterior shell which is absolutely necessary for a 5 star but it was shockingly close to what you can find in Arizona. Probably one of the best you'll find in utah to be honest. Staff extremely friendly. Food was quick and place was very clean. I'll be back for sure read more

Delicious food with excellent service! We live in Davis county and all of our favorite Mexican restaurants keep closing, so we venture further and further from home in search of good Mexican food. We found it here! The guacamole was perfect, and served with seasoned, crunchy chips and salsa. I had the beef birria tacos, served with consume, onions, cilantro, lime, and two hot sauces. The flavors were so well balanced, the tortillas had a crispy texture. YUM! My husband had tinga chicken enchiladas. The chicken was flavorful, but the sauce was one of the best things I've ever eaten. The flavors were complex and well rounded. For the 2.5 year old, we got chicken tinga tacos and triple berry lemonade, and the taco was flavorful and crispy. Maybe not for less adventurous eaters, but he enjoyed them as well as the refried beans and rice. 10/10 will come back, the only downside is our standards have been raised... a lot. read more

We also found out that he helps cook the food as well! They give you free chips and salsa and the chips are perfectly crunchy and freshly fried.
