Wow, this little gem is hidden by 12th street beach and was a stopover on our Segway tour! The carne asada tacos were authentically perfect! The pork rinds were out of this world, every time we took a little break my sister was digging into her Segway bag for another one. My daughter ended up throwing her food away, AFTER we paid over $50 just for 5 tacos and 4 drinks. My friend and I went to a music festival where Del Campo had a booth. She ordered a walking taco. When she got the walking taco it was covered in grilled onions, which was not listed on the menu. We tried to either exchange it immediately or get a refund. The staff got belligerently defensive, to which we did in retaliation. I explained my friend has an allergy to onions, and had the ingredient had been listed on the menu she wouldn't have ordered. Visited them at the air and water show this past weekend and they tried to charge my friend three dollars to use a debit card when they never had it posted anywhere or told her when they took her card. The steak tacos are great and I personally think it's good but it's way too over price. I went and ordered 2 steak tacos costing me 4 dollars each when I taught it was 3 dollars each. The kid in there who took my order told me that the steak tacos where 1 dollar extra right after I payed. He didn't tell me before hand which I didn't like, so my whole meal was 11 dollars for 2 steak tacos and a bottled water. I could get better tacos somewhere else with a much cheaper price. read more

Over charged our food based off their prices on their menu board, and then we're incredibly rude about correcting the charge. We wanted nachos with no meat and instead of refunding the $2 steak upcharge they said that if we want our nachos plain it would cost extra and we have to choose a meat if we want their regular priced nachos, but their menu says no such thing and nothing was said when we ordered.... we didn't even have our food made yet so what's the problem with making my food without meat and giving us back the $2 steak upcharge? They insisted to have the regular $10 nachos we had to have meat, so finally I said fine, I'll take chicken. When we picked up our food the manager called my 65 year old mother a "fucking idiot" and told her to learn to read a menu, even though the manager said when we were arguing the charge that it wasn't listed on the menu but it costs more to have the nachos plain. Um, what? Even if the charge is actually the regular case they handled it so incorrectly. You shouldn't ever call anyone, especially a guest, a fucking idiot whether or not you think you're correct. read more

Usually going out for a bite is a treat, but in this case it was a punishment. The slovenly woman scratching herself while begrudgingly seating us should have been warning enough, but we were hungry and hot, and still hopeful. We ordered our 4 dollar Mexican cokes and asked for a cup of ice, which the waitress refused to give us, and ordered what we thought would be nachos. Cold chewy meat, brown lettuce with some sour cream squirted on really hit the pits of our stomaches. After a bite apiece we were more than done. Racist. Straight up racist against their own kind of people. I've never written a review, but I was truly disgusted and disappointed on how they treated my family and I. We ordered food and were told to sit. We didn't know how to enter( it was outdoors). There was a seating area where it was open to all. no proper tables or chairs and a second outdoor area, but with proper shade and seating. we asked caucasian people who were served and sitting in the shadow how to get in the shade area. When we couldn't find it we asked the owner and told us to sit in the hot blazing sun with everyone else that was of color. My mom called them out to us and they over heard. They then proceeded to sit us in the shaded area. After we got our food. A Caucasian couple walked in and was immediately sat in the shaded area. No waiting no nothing. They went straight to the area we weren't allowed in at first. The waiter then saw our faces and gave us their $3 churros for free without even letting us know. Horrible experience. I came here the other day. I saw the advertisement signs and decided to check them out. I tried the steak quesadilla and elotes in a cup. It was delicious. I like how they don't give you too much quesadilla. I have poor appetite so the small portion of steak quesadilla they gave me was perfect and satisfying. I also tried horchata for the first time. The workers explained what horchata is and I tried some. I really enjoyed it. The deck area is very comfortable. I like the view of the lake, park, and dome of the Adler Planetarium. Stopped for food before a show at Huntington Pavilion because we were early and the gates weren't opened yet. A lot of people seemed to be waiting a long time to get their order for tacos so we figured a hot dog and polish would be quick. Hot dog and Maxwell style Polish were cold, served on old, dry buns and the elote was swimming in a thin milky liquid. The food was awful and the staff was rude! Del Campo's has become a favorite when we visit Chicago! Family friendly, reasonably priced place to eat! Not only are the views of the lake the main event- because you are right THERE, the breeze, the sea gulls, the sunshine, the spray of the water occasionally... the lakeside ambiance is all that we long for, but the food is really very tasty too! (Just keep your hands on it. The wind is brisk, & the gulls are friendly.) We've only ever eaten our food outside. Not sure if there is an inside to this place or not. Good prices. Authentic. (If only parking nearby was cheaper...) Buy a couple good steak tacos, sit & eat quietly while gazing at the colors of the water touching the sky line, take a casual stroll around Lake Michigan (Shedd Aquarium nearby), pick up a couple pieces of beach glass in the sand... I guess it makes up for the parking fee. This is one of our favorite Chicago restaurants because we particularly like the Lake part of Chicago. We plan to go again in a couple weeks, so I guess that makes us return happy customers. : ) read more

Don't go here! Overpriced and the service was terrible! After they took our order, it took almost 15 minutes to get our beers (which were cans!!! Also the menu doesn't include the beer price, so when you find out you paid $8 for each miller light can ...!!!). After 25 minutes they brought us 2 tacos and 1 cup of elote; these are simple tacos, 25 minutes is absurd; also we ordered 4 tacos, so that was really awkward. After I called out their mistake, they apologized and returned 2 minutes later with 2 more tacos. So about that first 25 minute wait... Everyone else on the patio was visibly and audibly just as frustrated and disappointed with the service. Also heads up, just because you sit on the patio to get a sit-down restaurant feel, don't expect chips and dip because they aren't free. Plus they won't give you any cups nor tap water, you have to purchase bottled water. So we did, because it was super hot out and we were really thirsty; and in case you were wondering, they never brought the bottled water. Finally, we got the bill; the steak tacos were $3 on the menu, but she charged me $4 per taco; when I asked, she said they were $4, they just hadn't updated the menu, but that the front of the building said $4. I wasn't going to make a scene and I was so ready to get out of there, so I paid and left. If you are going to a show on Northerly Island, plan ahead and eat elsewhere! read more
