In summary...Starting this review before dinner is finished...don't waste your money in Del Fuego...Food is garbage, drinks are terrible...if you want to spend your time and money on quality, take the LIRR into the city and go Rosa Mexicana for a very good/great dining experience. You may spend slightly more at a place like RM, but it is worth it. Or, go to Chipotle, if you want to stay closer to home, seriously (and, keep in mind, Chipotle serves beer). And, btw, I may be glow-in-the-dark Scots-Irish, but my wife is Honduran/Puerto Rican and knows Mexican cuisine quite well. Keep reading if you're interested in the details for my advice on staying away from Del Fuego. Traditional guacamole Terrible. Obviously not fresh and seasoning all out of balance (eg way too much black pepper). There is a reason why Mexican places worth their salt make the guacamole fresh by cutting the avocado when you order it vs. prepping batches beforehand: Because if it sits around it starts to taste bad. Drinks Fancy descriptions, but, honestly, do they have liquor in them? Neither of us likes a heavy pour, but you should be able to sense there's alcohol in there. Two margaritas for my wife and a margarita and a mojito for me, I was wondering if the drinks were "virgin". My mojito was the single worst mojito I have ever had, highly doubt the mint was muddled at all BBQ pulled pork wontons appetizer Clearly reheated in a convection microwave and pork was absolutely tasteless, no seasoning, smokiness whatsoever. Perhaps slow cooked in a crock pot? At this point, my wife suggested we cancel our entree order, but I figured it was probably too late. I should have followed her suggestion. Entrees For her, shrimp tacos with a side of platanos. For me, grilled mesquite chicken burrito. Hers, platanos were raw inside and the sour cream to go with it had black pepper(!) in it. Sent them back and asked to be removed from bill. Shrimp tacos, one bite and she was ready to spit it out. She said that the cabbage on top of the tacos tasted like it was sitting around for days and the rice was dry as sand. I tried the rice and agreed. It was also the wrong kind of rice for Mexican cuisine: white rice instead of Spanish rice. My burrito, "mesquite" does not mean "burnt". I lasted three bites and couldn't get past the dry as a bone taste of eating an extinguished piece of mesquite wood instead of savory chicken flavored by mesquite smoking. I tried dousing a bite in Cholula hot sauce to make it edible, but the charred wood flavor cut through regardless. I was almost able to give the side salad that came with it a passing grade, but unfortunately the mango in the salad was not ripe (and mangoes are in season!). We summoned the waitress and informed her of the shortcomings with the food. At least to her credit, she agreed to remove the platanos from the bill immediately. My wife asked how recently the rice was cooked. The waitress explained that the kitchen is constantly making it fresh. No way. Rice gets that dried out from reheating. The owner or manager then came over as the waitress evidently relayed our feedback. We repeated our observations. For a moment, she appeared incredulous about my wife's feedback (remember what I noted up top about my wife's ethnic background). She took our plates away. The waitress soon returned with our bill and told us that my wife's entree had also been removed. We thanked her for her courtesy in that regard, paid in cash and left. We will not be returning to Del Fuego. It is unfortunate because it was recommended highly to us and we are right in Babylon. We arrived tonight for dinner at about 6:55, were told it would be a half hour wait and were finally seated nearly an hour later. Having to wait on a Friday night is no big deal. But having to wait even two minutes for the garbage they are serving is not worth it. read more

Its amazing to me how a good group lets this location go so far down the shit hole. Chips = stale, salad = half dead greens with a single slice of unripe mango, burrito assembled as if no one gives a shit and brisket is no where near as tasty as other locations in St James and Patchogue. Drinks vary depending on who is making them and whether or not they are busy socializing vs making your beverage. Really turned off no wonder they were slow on a Saturday at 8 when everything else in Babylon is rocking, here's a tip if you want del fuego go to their other locations. I've been coming here consistently with my dad for five years. Although the food isn't the best ever it is still quite good. The waitstaff is attentive and the atmosphere is very nice. For the years I have come here the experience has always been nice with no exceptions. read more

We've been to Del Fuego three times and I so want to love it but it's just inconsistent. Actually I take that back, there is one consistent thing ....the service is terrible. The staff is inattentive and doesn't seem to about the customer. The food was decent the first time, almost everyone loved their dishes. Second time was excellent. But tonight was an epic fail... We got lobster tacos and a veggie burrito. Both were flavorless, mushy and overall unappetizing. The soda was flat, I had one sip and was charged 3 dollars for that and 3 dollars for a club soda to take it's place. I don't mind paying, but that seems a little cheesy. The one thing I would come back here for is the salsa....amazing. All in all, I think Del Fuego needs to step it up. read more

I hate to do this, and few places motivate me to say bad things, but this place sucks. This place gets one star for the bartender, who did their job promptly and to the best of their ability despite their lack of stock. I found 2 hairs in separate dishes! DO NOT EAT HERE....unless you're into that sort of thing......woof. Not only does it start with a careless hostess who doesn't know how to seat people, it's the poor mechanics of the whole place. It is run completely inefficiently due to lack of management. We waited because of mistakes ( more than one*) by the hostess, then our waitress forgot to bring us our appetizer, we asked her for drinks and our appetizers, she disappeared and then came back to check on another table next to us, and ignored us as we called to her because I guess she was embarrassed she forgot twice.....or not because she seemingly didn't care about us at all. Overpriced. The food was crap. The pulled pork tacos tasted like the meat was pulled out of a plastic bag (Aside from being flavorless). The tables were not wiped clean. And they seem to pride themselves on their "variety" for all of those drinks, tequila, and beer....yet they just happened to be out of every other thing you'd ask for? LOVE this place!! Food is delicious and flavorful. I had the you-pick-3-tacos...beef brisket, chicken and shrimp. All were equally amazing! $4 margaritas during happy hour- can't beat that! Service was very quick. Atmosphere is fun, really liked the decoration. Made me feel like I was actually someplace in the Southwest. Great place to go on a Friday/Saturday night with friends. Placed an order for pick up at Del Fuego..thankfully food tasted as yummy as it does in the restaurant (I've had some bad experiences with delivery/pick up). Quesadilla was made well, Fries were amazingly crisp..Portion size was correct. Only 1 issue I had- they seem to always forget the salad dressing (as they did this time)..luckily we checked as soon as we got into our car and were able to run in to grab it. Other than that, great lunch. I'm back to being a Del Fuego take out fan..hope they will keep it up! read more

The pros: drinks are really good. The bartenders are friendly & attentive. No complaints about the food either but take note that this is not an authentic Mexican restaurant. The con: the service I've received both times I've been here has been unsettling. The first time I visited, it was around 10PM so I assumed the server's behavior in trying to get us out fast was because her shift was coming to an end at 11pm. Fine. For fairness purposes I came back again at an earlier time- about 6:30PM. Same issue. Keep in mind, my boyfriend & I love trying out drink menus and tend to order multiple rounds. We finished our first drinks & the waitress immediately came over to ask if she could get us the check. Uh no? I would like another drink. She brings out the next drink and as we finish she comes back & again asks if she could get us the check. Each time she approached us she was rushing and pushing for us to move along or leave. We both ordered entrees & drinks, we weren't just sitting there holding a table. There were empty tables around us & no line out the door of people trying to get in. To my knowledge, I would think servers like patrons to order things, especially drinks because, oh I don't know, higher bill = higher tip? Each time I've visited I've been here less than an hour due to this constant rushing from the server. Frankly, it's annoying and uncomfortable. read more

Went to see what the line outside this place was about. Nice enough atmosphere (a bit cheezy like a Ruby Tuesdays). U can tell the hype is basically more about the excitement of a Mexican place in a great location. Ok, let me start off by saying I'm part seagull & can eat almost anything. The food at this place was absolutely tasteless & cheap. Like a HS cafeteria. Ground beef should be brown in color, not grayish white with pieces of ground up snouts & bones. I have a feeling once the novelty of something new in town wears off, so will the clientele. I'll give it another shot in a few weeks & see if anything changed. read more

I was very excited for the opening of Del Fuego in Babylon. I have been to the Smithtown location for lunch and really liked it. Who doesn't like a fun tex-mex place for go-to margaritas & burritos? The decor is very nice. The atmosphere is fun.The menu is extensive, and I can't say enough about the salsa. The SALSA is by far the best restaurant salsa I have had and they are plentiful with refilling the chips & salsa. The drinks are pretty average margaritas, nothing too crazy there, however they have a HUGE tequila selection including some of my favorites that are hard to find at other places. Great beer list too. The food is good, but I am not sure that alone will offset the negatives. I have been there twice and both times they have gotten my entree wrong. Entirely the wrong dish. I am not sure if it's the waitstaff or the kitchen, but both times. I have not been there on a Fri or Sat night when it's very busy, but rather a time I wouldn't expect many issues. The service is attentive in the beginning and falls off throughout the meal IMO. We didn't see the waitress until there was a problem, and the person who brought our entrees was not very helpful when we had questions about my dish being wrong. Although the busboys couldn't get us drink refills, I believe they tried to locate our server, and they were very nice. The manager seemed sincere in her apology of the issues we were having but it left a bad taste in my mouth. I don't want to be too negative since they are a new business and apparently just have some kinks to work out, but I am not impressed unfortunately. I had really high hopes, and will probably give it one last shot in the future, but I don't think they can hold a candle to Swell at this point. The beef taco was not seasoned at all and came out very bland, the mesquite chicken was very salty and not "hickory smoked or natural" at all, it was clearly out of a jar. Once we got there for a party of 5 + baby, we were next to be seated. Unfortunately in the time my friend bought her drink, a large party (one of which appears to have been employed there or had the "inside connection") came in and magically we were bumped to an hour wait. This is unacceptable! We drove over an hour for this place and went from a potential 5 to 10 minute wait to an hour wait with nothing less than a "there were 2 large parties ahead of you". I give it no stars because we never got to try the food. Four of us went there last night, Wednesday, and were told the wait would be about ten minutes. We went to the bar and bought a round of drinks for the wait. Forty minutes later still nothing. We noticed a few tables with patrons long finished with dinner still sitting there. What was most annoying was that the the hostess who told us it would be ten minutes spent a lot of her time standing at the bar right next to us talking to another employee and never gave us any notice at all. Even after we asked about the increasing wait time nothing was done or said. It seemed very rude. We left and went down the street to another Mexican place. Great service, great food. After ten minutes out waitress had not come up to us. When I asked we were quickly approached by our waitress who was apologetic. The staff was then quite attentive to us. My friend who lives out here picked this place out and told me it was pretty good Mexican food, so I was excited to try the food. The place itself is pretty lively and looks like it attracts a fun crowd. I'm seriously obsessed with happy hours so I was very excited once we got here and discovered we were right in time for happy hour! Regular margaritas are only $4 during happy hour and they also have beer specials. We went with the regular margarita and I was pleased with the taste but it was a pretty small glass which explains the $4 price during happy hour. Since this was my first time here I'm not sure if they give out smaller glasses during happy hour or if this is the standard size, if it is then I would suggest only getting margaritas during happy hour. Once we were settled with our drinks I decided to get the shrimp quesadilla and my friend ordered the fuego salad. The shrimp quesadillas were pretty good! I liked the combination of beans,corn, cheese and shrimp and it was also nice that the guacamole, lettuce and crema were on the side since this prevented the quesadilla from being soggy. I tried my friend's salad and was pretty impressed with the combination of flavors plus the steak was pretty tender. My one complaint about this place was the chips and salsa that we got when we sat down. The chips were kinda greasy and the salsa was very spicy with a strong weird flavor that I couldn't really identify. The service was good but it seemed like our waitress was pretty busy so she didn't really have much time to come over and check on us during our meal. Definitely recommend this place for happy hour since you will need to drink a lot of margaritas if you want to feel buzzed. read more

If you like bbq or tex mex, then you should really try this restaurant. The drink menu had a ton of tequilas to choose from, there are lots of mexican beers on tap, and the food is great. The wife and I had the guacamole and pulled pork wontons to start, both awesome. Then we made it a fully pork night with an order of pulled pork tacos and an order of carnitas enchiladas. Went here last night. Word of caution- extremely crowded! It's a tiny little place. There's 1 bathroom. You wait at the bar and then the gods laugh at you for thinking you could whittle the time away with beverages. We were told we had a half hour wait for a table so we went to the bar. Had a yummy grapefruit/tequila drink. Based on other reviews they go light on alcohol but that was fine for me because with no food, I would be wasted. We waiting a really long time. It stunk because there was no room to feel comfortable. But, hey, that's our problem. We weren't drinking enough to keep up with the people surrounding us. Now we get seated, they give you chips and salsa. Yay! However we wanted more chips and we ordered diablo guacamole. Was told "it's a 10 out of 10" spicy so went with traditional guacamole. Should've asked them to make the diablo 6/10 spicy or something. The little, sad, plastic bowl that came out with a lump of shitcamole was not exciting. It was bland and not as chunky as I'm use to. I had eaten ALL the chips before it came out.... (The salsa was yummy-ish and I was starving) and we weren't given new chips. So I attempted to put mass amounts of guac on a little bit o chip. Weird. We got em after some time but we weren't given them and we ordered guacamole. Let that sink in. That's a shame. Skipping through- jalapeño bacon pork thing was good. Burrito was good. Great place! We shared the guacamole with chips which was plentiful and delish! They refilled our chips without charging us extra. I had a coconut rum concoction which was strong and yummy. I also had the shrimp quesadilla while my husband had the chicken and rice combo which we both loved and took home leftovers. The server was excellent and the atmosphere was fun and casual! Love this place ! Went on Sunday and they had $15 fajitas, half price wings and nachos (we got all three) . The wings we got half Buffalo half honey chipotle both fantastic best wings I've ever had . Nachos we're good too big platter lots of toppings. Fajitas don't come out sizzling like at other places but still really good , I got the steak and it was cooked well. We had a really good time here Saturday afternoon! It's a new Tex/Mex restaurant on Deer Park Avenue, in the town of Babylon. It felt "good" the moment we walked in. We sat at the bar which was packed at 1400 on a Sunday afternoon. I ordered a Mojito Picante. Wow! Never had something like this before. In addition to muddled mint, they muddled jalepeno and ginger. When I drank the ice cold concotion it felt refreshing until I swallowed - then I got a slow burn. MMMMMMMMMMMM! I had to order a side of beer to drink along side it! What a treat! They have about 6 tap beers, 2 local, and I believe 1 that is exclusive from Port Jefferson. Tons of tequila. Lot's of choices. We ordered some apps which we enjoyed a very much. Tuna tacos were great. It started to get crowded fast so we hit the payment. Definatley a great new addition to Main Street! read more

I had the beef burrito and it was so good, usually burritos are 90% beans but to my amazement it did not have a lot at all...which is great, because no one likes that much beans.
