Stuck in the 1980's I came in to drop off some shirts and there was no process to count or check the incoming laundry. There was no receipt to prove I dropped off X number of shirts in the event I got back fewer than I dropped off, or any process to prove that my clothes were not damaged at drop-off. My estimate for pickup was "Maybe Monday, maybe Wednesday". After trying to pick up the shirts on a Saturday (they're closed Saturday), then trying to pick them up the following Monday on the way home from work (they close at 3!) I finally snuck in at lunch the next day. Oops, they're cash and check only (who still uses checks?!). A quick trip to the ATM and I got my shirts. Took Three business days to get a response for a quote. Three other vendors provided more competitive pricing within one to two hours. This quote was almost 6x higher than the price I found and 3x higher than the highest price form the other three responders. read more

There's a lot to like here, but unfortunately that comes with a significant caveat. Del Mar does laundry, working with both walk-in customers and with dry cleaners, hotels, and others who outsource their laundry. I'm certain the latter makes up the bulk of their business. They do a mostly very good job with men's dress shirts. Unlike many cleaners, they don't press collars at too high pressure and/or heat, making them turn shiny. They do a better job avoiding pressed-in wrinkles than most. They are fairly good at following instructions for particular garments. They are mostly friendly and helpful. But occasionally, their machines will cut, tear, and/or leave black grease stains on items (often all at the same time), ruining them. They will not take any responsibility when this occurs. It does not matter if it obviously looks like a machine chewed your shirt up, they will insist you must have brought it in that way. It would be funny if it were not so frustrating. I'm averaging an episode like this about every two years. So far, I haven't walked away, in part because I don't like my alternatives. But ruining a dress shirt--and refusing to take any responsibility--is a pretty big deal. I'm hoping one of these days they rethink their attitude when these rare situations arise. read more

When I looked up Del Mar's phone number on line this morning, I saw several reviews that either praise or pan their service. I have sent them five dress shirts a week for over 20 years. I have never had one piece damaged. And, in a few cases, they have repaired small issues, like button holes, without being asked and without charge. Their delivery and pick up service is very punctual and dependable. Their main driver, Gabriel, is a pleasure to see and deal with on Tuesdays and Fridays. He is a great ambassador for the company. If someday, one of my shirts ever comes back cut or damaged (after 20 years of perfect service), I will look at it as random, and damage to well used clothing that has less value than their good service. read more

Del Mar is the laundry that local cleaners who do not do laundry on their own premises send shirts to. Del Mar is the only local business providing that service. As such, they have a monopoly. Unfortunately, they abuse it. My cleaners (Pacific Grove Cleaners) send shirts here. Del Mar damaged a new shirt of mine, and when my cleaner tried to get Del Mar to do something about it, their response was, "oh, really? That's too bad." In the end, my cleaners had to cover the cost of a replacement shirt; what's more, they tell me that they've lost business because of Del Mar. So what to do? Either wash your shirts yourself and take them to your cleaners to get them pressed (Pacific Grove Cleaners offers this service) or go to a cleaners that launders shirts on their own premises. DO NOT SEND YOUR SHIRTS TO DEL MAR! They will NOT take responsibility for shirts they damage, and don't do a very good job anyway (the buttons they break are replaced not with buttons from the shirt, but with whatever happens to be lying around, whether it matches or not). Lousy service + irresponsibility = no money from me. read more

I brought all of my dress clothes to Del Mar French Laundry for over a year and they always did an excellent job with everything. The service here is really good, they remembered my name after only a few weeks of coming here and were always exceptionally friendly. They were always very accommodating regardless of what I needed done and when I needed it. This isn't the cheapest place to bring your dry cleaning, but they do high quality work that justifies the price. I definitely prefer to pay a little extra if I know that my clothes aren't going to be damaged. This is definitely the place to take your dry cleaning in Monterey. read more

I've used Crossroads Cleaners for about 30 years and love the work they do and if there's a problem, they make sure to handle it to a customer's satisfaction. About 3 years ago, things really started to go down hill with DMFL. I went over to talk to the owner and got an excessive amount of yelling and he blamed the cleaners I use, which is plain nonsense as CC does't do anything but bag the dirty linen, send it over DMFL and then have it on hand when it's ready for their customers. The owner of DMFL is outrageous and a bully. He had not improved with age (nor reason apparently) when I went in on Monday, October 22, 2018. The poor receptionist is, if not afraid of him, more than slightly agitated in his presence when he starts to raise his voice. Others, in the back where the work is done, act the same as the receptionist. This appears to be a company, run by a tyrant and not worthy of using. Sad, very sad. read more

The owner is the biggest asshole I have ever met. I was illegally discriminated against for having mental health issues. I went in to just drop off laundry, for a customer who's been in the system for like 5 years now. They demanded I give a phone number, I don't know the home owners number, I'm just the employee my boss asked me to drop it off. I am Disability for mental illness(6 of them) and was called stupid and slow, they were extremely aggressive and rude, as I'm about to start crying and tell him I'm mentally ill and don't handle things like this well. As the lady started laughing at me while I'm about to cry, the owner says oh you are mentally ill? I said yes and I'm reporting your for the things you just called me. He said ok then get the hell out and don't come back. I've never felt like killing myself more then at that moment, just cause I can't handle conflict well and being yelled at like that. Worst. Laundry. Ever. But the straw that breaks the camel's back and just makes them horrible is their drivers. Just now they cut me off in traffic and gave me a dirty look. Then they inexplicably stopped at a green light, waited for it to turn yellow, then went through so that I would get stuck on red. You know what they say about Karma. See the review from 4/12/2010 below -- I just had exactly the same frustrating and extraordinarily-dishonest experience from Del Mar French Laundry with a shirt it had laundered. Like the 4/12/2010 reviewer, I had left a seldom-worn, in near-new condition, dress shirt at Pacific Grove Cleaners. I left it for laundering with several other shirts, as I have often for years at Pacific Grove Cleaners. I've always understood that Del Mar French Laundry laundered shirts left at Pacific Grove Cleaners. As the other reviewer said, Del Mar has a local monopoly on shirt laundering -- there is no effective wholesale competition. Several days later when I got home with my bundle of cleaned shirts, I discovered that, in the middle of the bundle, there was My Land's End shirt that looked like it had been run through a lawn mower -- it had several large tears on one of its tails, each inches-long and in tatters, and one of its collar-tab buttons had been ripped off and clumsily replaced with a button that didn't match others on the shirt. In short, the shirt had been very obviously destroyed by Del Mar in the process of laundering. I was incensed that Del Mar French Laundry would, in effect, deliberately screw a good, long-time business customer, Pacific Grove Cleaners, by deliberately hiding a shirt Del Mar had to know it had seriously damaged in the middle of an otherwise ordinary-looking bundle of laundered shirts, thus leaving Pacific Grove Cleaners in the messy position of having to deal with a highly-annoyed customer -- me. But not annoyed at Pacific Grove Cleaners, of course. The family that owns and runs Pacific Grove Cleaners are good people -- I've known them for years. They don't deserve to be dealt with that way by Del Mar. So, thus annoyed, I took my destroyed shirt back to Pacific Grove Cleaners, along with a print-out of a Land's End Web page showing what a replacement shirt would cost. Pacific Grove Cleaners told me they would submit my claim to Del Mar, but that, judging from their past experience with similar claims against Del Mar, they expected Del Mar just to reject my claim. Which, I learned yesterday from Pacific Grove Cleaners, is PRECISELY what Del Mar did. Not only that, to add insult to injury, Del Mar told Pacific Grove Cleaners that, since the shirt had a laundry mark of another laundry on it (from I don't know when, but not recently), it had to have been that other laundry that damaged the shirt! Which had no possible relevance to Del Mar having buried the obviously-damaged shirt in the middle of my laundered shirt bundle without fessing up to the damage, thus deliberately leaving Pacific Grove Cleaners in a pickle with its customer! And today, when I looked at Yelp to see if there were any Yelp reviews of Del Mar French Laundry, there was that 4/12/2010 review complaining of an almost factually-identical complaint against Del Mar! Which shows that it is evidently a routine Del Mar business practice to routinely deny claims for damage to shirts that it launders. That review discovery was an additional incentive for me to post this review of Del Mar French Laundry. Be forewarned -- Del Mar evidently doesn't stand behind the quality of the shirt laundering it does but instead denies legitimate claims, evidently as a routine business practice. If I could put 0 I would. I had two shirts cut up and stained when I picked them up from Rainbow Cleaners. The owner of this scam outfit said I cut them up before I dropped them off. Rainbow cleaners acknowledges I didn't. Both were ripped in the same spot in the same way, like from a machine. Very precise cuts. They don't stand behind their work and in my mind they are liars, cheats and thieves. Do not use these crooks. read more

I have been taking my shirts to the same family run dry cleaners for years and have received great service. Unfortunately they send their shirts to Del Mar for cleaning and pressing. I have noticed for some time that one side of the collar on all my shirts is never crisp and seems improperly aligned so that it looks awful when wearing a tie. Its as if one side of my collar is folded over. I have repeatedly complained to the dry cleaner who has had other similar complaints from customers. I am told the owner of Del Mar has said nothing can be done. In fact, I recently sent a batch of shirts back for re-pressing but they were returned untouched. The owner of Del Mar told the dry cleaner that's the best they can do, which is totally unsatisfactory. The problem lies in either the pressing machine, the staff attention to detail, or both that need improving, not to mention the owner's attitude! I need to find a dry cleaner for my shirts that takes quality seriously. I feel bad for the family run dry cleaner that is at the mercy of a business that does not care about customer service.
