I went here for the first time tonight after googling top steakhouses in NJ and this one received a 27 on Zagat for Food. I was also drawn to this restaurant because it was supposed to be a blend of Italian and Asian cuisine, very ambitious task. Sesame Chicken next to Chicken Franchese intrigued me on the menu. Overall, good restaurant. I had the sushi special which they had previously and brought back. I have to say I might have discovered why they took it off in the first place. It was spicy tuna sushi with cucumber. First off, sushi should not have too much rice. There was a very minuscule amount of spicy tuna with a considerably sized piece of cucumber. The fact that the soy sauce came in a small ramiken so none of the sushi pieces could fit into it, meaning unfortunately my sushi always had just a dabble of soy sauce. Being that I identified the restaurant for being a steakhouse, I did get to try some of the NY strip which blew the sushi out of the park. Del Monico's definitely knows how to do steak. We started off with the Clams Casino, which I was not particularly a fan of. I cannot say I have ordered Clams Casino many times before, but this does not make it towards the top of my list. I had 2 clams and there was a sour taste that overpowered the bacon/clam flavor which I could not get over. I must be fair and talk about the pros with this restaurant. Good customer service. Friendly, knowledgable waitress. Manager was regularly checking up on tables and even help reminded me about fulfilling my special dessert request from my Opentable.com reservation comment. I did love the Chocolate Lava Cake dessert. Great display. I left the place on a great note because of the dessert and the Manager was very caring about the service that we were receiving. I learned from him that the restaurant is part of a family owned Village Restaurant Group which has other restaurants either Italian or Asian, like Taos, Village Gourmet, and Tina Louise. Figured we'd try it here for early fathers day dinner cause it was one of the only steakhouses around with opentable reservations still up the day of. Great decision. The menu was pretty big with a bunch of different sections which gave a lot of variety. We had spicy steak tips, steamed clams, and swordfish dumplings for apps which everyone loved. I have been here many times. Way before covid. We walked in last night. Still no bar stools at bar. We sit down at a side table. No biggie. Waiter comes over and hands us menus and takes a drink order. Not the most friendliest. Clearly he didnt wanna be there. Comes back and we ordered apps. And we say we arent quite ready to order entrees yet. He tells us ok but our kitchen closes in 15 mins very nasty. I looked at my boyfriend and we should have left after the apps. We dont. We order entrees. Apps took longer then expected. Dont see our waiter again. Food runner brings us our apps. And not two minutes in our entrees come out. We send them back. Not even in three bites on our apps. Are you kidding. So another 5-6 min go by. The waiter brings our entrees. Still not ready but we accept them. I ordered penne vodka sauce with filet medallions. Worse vodka sauce ever!! It was way to red and no cream. Tasted like a a salty red sauce. My boyfriend gets braised short ribs. Couldnt eat it. Way too salty. Had a couple bites and wrapped it. Waiter does not come back or ask us if we want dessert. When he does come back i ask for a espresso martini. He tells me we are closed. I said what. Theres people behind us that he just poured a fresh glass of wine for. But ok. We ask for check. The whole time staff is doin side work at the bar. No longer a happy happy hour. Sunday was once an all day happy hour, then it was cut back to 2-5. Now the happy hour is 2-4 and bread is considered a small plate menu item at $4. The double whammy is that prices went up and portions have been cut. Small plates were always $4, now they are $4, $5 and $6. $4 plates include the bread basket or fries, rice, pasta, salad or soup: all of which are tiny portions. Meat items are $5: 3 sliders, general's chicken, chicken skewers, and the like. Anything shrimp or seafood is $6 for a tiny portion. Martinis that were once included in the happy hour menu are gone and a pitcher of sangria is now up to $18. Our once happy place is no longer what it once was, so we will be opting for other nearby options that get the concept of a happy hour deal. It is important to mention, price has never held us back. We have typically had a bill over $100 at their happy hour BUT when the management deems it necessary to charge for bread and butter, we're out! read more

My husband and I live a few minutes away from here and we love it! Great food, friendly staff, fantastic prices and a great place to watch the games! They do reverse happy hours so if you work late you can still make it. When the weather gets nicer they have a few tables outside and their entire bar wall opens up so a few of the tables in the bar area have an "outdoor" feel too. Happy Hour is great! Had a glass of wine for only $3 and it wasn't cheapy wine! Food was delicious - I had shrimp wrapped in bacon - the presentation of the dish was very nice...shrimp was over spinach - there was also a side of lomein noodles and cabbage - a little bit of everything. My friend had the boneless chicken wings which was also delicious - that also came with sides...linguini with spinach and cabbage - the service was great and friendly! This restaurant is AMAZING. Prepare yourself for a long, but detailed, review.. along with 4 mild criticisms.... My boyfriend and I wanted to go somewhere special for our 7 year anniversary. We decided on Delmonico from a few really great choices. We had a reservation for 4:30 through open table, but we had to change it to 5 because we got held up. That was no problem at all and when I called to confirm the change the hostess was courteous and sweet. We finally go there and it was pretty empty for a Sunday, but it was super early for dinner and...as I thought it would...it definitely filled up later. The hostess informed us that there would be a large party coming pretty soon and that the back room would be more private and nice, so we got a seat by the window. It was perfect. Our waitress was SUPER sweet and everyone seemed really cheerful, even the busboys and the food runners...seriously...they all had smiles on their faces. So, we order our wines at the recommendation of the waitress, I wish I could remember her name! I should have asked again...they came out quickly...I had also asked for a bottle of water, which she forgot, but when I reminded her she apologized and quickly got it... no big deal AT ALL. So I informed her of my milk allergy. She told everyone in the back and the other servers...they treated me like a queen the whole night. They really took amazing care of me, truly, it was wonderful. Anyway, the FOOD! We got the California Cobb salad, no cheese of course, and we asked for red wine vinaigrette. While we were waiting they brought out a basket of 4 or 5 PIPING HOT breads with 2 oils for dipping and 1 butter (for my boyfriend). The first olive oil was really delicious! Super flavorful, just had to mix the spices around a bit, so good! The second one...eh...way too spicy...it was a red pepper one, but my boyfriend loved it. We got our salad.... BACON STRIPS, people...strips...not bits, not cut up bacon...huge strips! They also brought out a balsamic vinaigrette with the red wine for us to try...they were both to die for! For our main courses I ordered the filet mignon with a side of asparagus (which they sautéed in olive oil for me instead of butter) and a plain baked potato. My boyfriend got the penne vodka with cajun chicken. Both of our meals came with a salad LOL more salad! But it was delicious. When mine came out it had croutons and parmesan cheese on it! So I said to the waitress (a different one who just brought our salads) "Oh! Is this cheese?" "Oh no! Cheese! Yes, please give that to me I'll fix it right away!" She ran in the back "cheese! GUYS!" it kind of made me laugh because she was a bit silly about it, but not at all making fun of me in any way, just really funny. So they brought out a new salad, no croutons, no cheese. It was good! House red wine vinaigrette, perfect. So the BEST part of the meal... MY STEAK! It was to DIE FOR! Perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned...amazing. The asparagus was delicious with garlic and oil...yum! I ate EVERY last bite and, as anyone who knows me will tell you, I never, ever do that. I forced myself beyond fullness ...to eat this all haha. My boyfriend loved his, as well. He really wanted dessert so he asked for a dessert menu and got ice cream, I got sorbet (asked if it was diary-free...it was! yay!) So my boyfriend's ice cream was more of a sundae! Looked amazing. The mango sorbet was fresh and yummy! Then I noticed the waitress bringing out a small dish of whipped cream. "Must be extra for my boyfriend." I thought. NOPE! It was for me! Non-dairy whipped cream!!!! So thoughtful and sweet...seriously. Everything was perfect. We tipped generously and will be back! Criticisms: 1. I had to ask someone at the bar, who was very kind and helpful, who worked there...how to work the sink in the bathroom and the water was FREEZING! 2. The bread was TOO hot... delicious, but I burned my mouth! lol 3. I would have liked to have been warned that the one oil dip was spicy...it was really too much for me. 4. My steak said it came with onions, fried ones, I'm sure they didn't give them to me because of something to do with my allergy, and I hate onions, so I didn't even notice...but my boyfriend did want them, so they could have asked maybe? Or put them on the side? I mean... it's no big deal AT ALL with the amazing service we got and I'm sure they just took it upon themselves for my safety to omit them, which I appreciate. Food: we ordered 4 tapas plates: honey tips, garlic shrimp, stuffed mushrooms with sausage, and fried calamari. All were very tasty. They even gave fresh warm rolls with oils/dips for it, delicious. Drinks: 2 glasses of sangria for $5 each- very delicious! IMO the white was stronger and less sweet so I preferred it. The server came out and gave us 2 more because they had "made extra", so that was a nice surprise. Service: I don't recall our server giving his name, or being overly friendly but he was efficient and courteous. It was good service. Atmosphere: this took away a star. First of all, we couldn't find the entrance. We parked in the back, walked to the front, only to find the front door has a sign that says the entrance is in the back. What the hell? We saw no sign of an entrance in the back. We walked back the long way (because the arrow on the sign said to go right for some reason, even though entering to the left would be quicker), and had to walk past the dumpsters, past the lattice fence, until we found what we assumed was the entrance, not clearly marked in any way. Maybe because of that we looked like we didn't know where we were going and it seemed to me we had a couple people staring at us... Or maybe they were just those kind of patrons, I dunno. The gentleman inside told us to sit wherever we'd like, so we chose a table outside in the pokey parking lot-turned-patio. It's obvious it's a parking lot. It sloped downward so my moms cutlery kept falling into her lap, and the iron table rocked back and forth on the slanted ground. It was weird. I wish they would add little steps to have each table on flat ground or something. But for tasty food and drinks, and at such a price, I'll be back. Not usually a yelp reviewer, but I've had a few good experiences here and a few other places lately and figured I'd put my two cents in! I went here with my mother and fiance for dinner the week after they opened up. It was 7:00 on Friday night and we didn't have a reservation (big mistake) and there were a lot of empty tables that were reserved for 8:00 reservations. I thought they weren't going to be able to seat us, but with only a little perserverance they did, which we appreciated. We felt a little rushed, but only because we felt bad taking someone else's table. It was no fault of their own. I've heard a lot of people complain about the wait, but when a good restaurant FINALLY comes to town, what do you expect? Make a reservation and you should be fine. If you don't they will do whatever they can to seat you of course and good things do come to those who wait! The food was awesome! My fiance and I got a delmonico steak (had to!) and my mother got the filet. I think I actually preferred her filet over the delmonico, but both were delicious. The sides are ordered family style so we got mushrooms and risotto, which were both really good. I'm a picky steak eater and I should probably preface my review by saying that I like steak juicy with some fat on it and practically bleeding. This was perfect. It wasn't too fatty, was cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth. I was definitely a fan after the first bite! Prices don't seem too outrageous either. Drinks are a little pricey, but good, and they have specials every night (I think?) or most nights at certain times. They have an awesome bar area with a whole bunch of TVs that opens up to the back where they have a small outdoor seating area complete with fire pit. Can't wait til Spring to use that! I made a reservation on November 10th at 7:30 pm for 2. When I called, the women explained there policy regarding time seated (pretty much to satisfy everyone, they give you 2 hours). Once we got there, the bar & restaurant was filled, but they had our table ready for us. Bread came instantly & waitress came over right away. I only glanced at the menu online (should definitely do this prior to visit. Menu is 42 pages long). Lots of options, so I needed more time to decide. Even with a crowded restaurant, waitress was patient & gave a few suggestions to help out. I just wanted to try everything. So I figured I'd get appetizers as my meal. I went for crab. I had crab won tons, crab spring rolls, & crab cakes (these were excellent). I liked that if you ordered an entree, you get a complementary salad. It was perfect. Found my new happy hour spot. You cant beat $4 apps and the drink menu. We sat inside because it was raining but the outside patio area is really adorable. I went a little crazy and got 4 apps- clams casino, mushrooms with crab, sweet potato fries, and cajun shrimp & scallops (all perfectly portioned)- and 5 $5 red sangrias. The drinks come in mason jars which I loved so much. The staff was really nice and the food was really good too, no complaints. My wife and I recently moved to Cedar Grove and spent a year trying to find our "go to" place on Friday nights. We always talked about trying Delmonico's as we drove by it on our way to another restaurant, but we never pulled the trigger until about a month ago. We're sorry we waited so long! This place is great. There menu offers a lot of options and has something for everyone. We've been four times so far and have been satisifed with every trip. As a waiter for nine years I can be picky about service and it drives my wife nuts! But here service is not an issue. Although you have your main server, the rest of the wait staff pitches in and helps their fellow servers out and do so WILLINGLY! They have a nice little bar area in back of the restaurant with a good selection of beers and a place to sit outside in the summer. Definately recommend this place if you're looking for a casual restaurant that serves good food. read more

We've been looking for a place to have a mic e dinner without going to Montclair. What a find! My husband and I had the coconut shrimp and scallops, pork ravioli with ginger sauce (really dumplings) for starters and porterhouse steak (he had blackened, I had Marsala sauce). We split a side of snow peas. Comes with a house salad-- perfect amount of dressing. Everything was wonderful, other than the salty Marsala sauce, but since it was in a dish on the side, no problem. The service was friendly and efficient. The waiter knew the menu and was able to make good recommendations. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because it was our first visit and the place was pretty empty-- we were there early. Will definitely be back to see if they are consistent. read more

First visit last weekend. On the plus side the appetizers, main course (I had their signature steak) , sides and drinks were wonderful. All four of us enjoyed our meals and service. On the negative - it is very hard to find the entrance as it is in the back and not marked will, or it is lit well. My husband I ordered the Banana's Foster for a shared dessert and were very disappointed. This was a feeble version of the classic dessert - take it off the menu if you can't do it correctly. Went here last night with friends. Very garish, bordello-like decor. Walking in the back door, there were ashtrays full of cigarette butts--an immediate turnoff. The waitress was very nice, but the food left a lot to be desired. The shrimp dumplings looked like they came from Costco, the garnishes included canned bean sprouts with a tinny flavor, my steak, while tasty, looked awful, with no grill marks or caramelization to make it look appetizing. They've only been open a month, but they should definitely try to limit the menu (it is many, many pages) and try to spiff up the food. Ok that was my fiancee that gave that review, and I have two minor corrections. I had the porterhouse steak, and it was phenomenal! Also, I don't think the drinks are that expensive, a martini is $7. I've had two business dinners here in the last year and both visits were excellent! The menu is huge with a lot of variety.I had the 3-way tuna appy, which was great and the short ribs. The short ribs were huge, tender and very tasty. Not a huge place but great food and great prices. The bar is rather small but very nice with an excellent selection of liquor. One TV screen in the bar is devoted to a Shadow Dancers DVD (think Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas) which could be a little risque for the kids. read more

Went with family on Memorial Day. For appetizers, we ordered a dozen oysters, the tuna trio, and also the chicken trio. The oysters tasted fresh. We thought the tuna trio was good, specifically the spicy tuna, but the chicken trio was bland and dry. For entrees, we were hoping to try the sushi, but were told they were out of sushi..? So instead we ordered their Delmonico steak and the spicy chicken. I asked the steak to be medium and it came out well done, tasting like cardboard - this was strange considering the similarity between the steak and the name of the steakhouse. The spicy chicken was incredibly spicy and the rub or flavoring was just one of the dips/spreads given for the bread (one with jalapeños). Our waiter was nice and patient, but the food came out painfully slow and during our dinner, we heard the wait staff drop dishes on two separate occasions. We had dinner around 6-7PM and the place was empty. We also overheard that the head chef was not in - this could possibly explain why there was no sushi and the food was subpar. Great place for dinner! I went with my girlfriend for my birthday. The ambiance is nice first off. Second, the service was very good. Waiters were attentive, and the manager also was friendly and spoke with us just to check in. They recommended the best steaks and some good craft beer. The food was VERY good. The Delmonico steak prepared with "Garlic & Butter" was unique and top notch. Had steamed clams as an appetizer and those were also very good. For dessert, we had the chocolate chip chocolate cake, which was amazing, of course just my virtue of what it was. It is easy yo drive passed the restaurant, so keep your eyes open. **Don't go!** I booked a table for 8 people on a Saturday night to celebrate a friend's birthday. First we were told they didn't have any menus to bring over to us. Mind you, the restaurant wasn't even close to being at capacity. We repeatedly had to ask for menus and were finally able to order drinks and appetizers. The food arrived and we realized no one ever came by to take our dinner order. Our waiter seemed to leave us high and dry. We flagged down a busboy who did his best to take our order. An hour after ordering, our original waiter finally showed up to tell us that they were out of filet mignons. By this time it was 10 pm and still no dinner in sight. They didn't even start cooking it yet! A large group next to us was having the same issue. We were told we would have dinner in 8 minutes. Instead of waiting for undercooked food, we asked for the check and went somewhere else. I've never seen a restaurant have such a disorganized kitchen. When the manager can't do anything for you but tell you how she shouldn't even be at your table explaining why you still haven't eaten because there are so many tickets piled up in the kitchen, they clearly don't have their act together. I go to DelMonicos for their happy hour. It's Monday through Friday, 4-7 and Sunday from 1-5 (They got rid of the happy hour at night). They have a 4$ tapas menu that includes small appetizer items such as boneless buffalo wings, tuna, tomato mozzarella and prosciutto salad, clams, stuffed mushrooms, shrimp and scallops, French onion soup, chicken noodle soup, penne vodka... Just to name a few. They also have 3$ house wine and all draft beer, 5$ sangria, and 6$ martinis. Oh and the vibe is pretty chill on Sundays to watch football which also includes $1 sliders! My husband and I were looking for a place to go to for our 6 month anniversary. At the last minute, he discovered Del Monico. We recently moved to Verona and have been looking for a restaurant and bar that we can try out that was different than the places we frequent. This place was a hit! We were seated right away, waitress met us right away and took our drink orders. What I liked immediately was their drink menu. It is so hard to go to a bar and see an actual menu of cocktails that are unique and won't burn a hole in your pocket. So right away I was pleased. I ordered the St. Germain White Sangria...DELICIOUS! My only gripe about this place would have to be the food menu. It is TOO BIG. There are way too many food choices and way too much of a mix of foods. It's confusing. Is it a steakhouse? An Italian place? A Chinese place? What? Pick one type of cuisine and stick to it, otherwise I'm left with way too many choices and it takes forever to decide on a meal. For our appetizer we had the rock shrimp tempura...soooo good!!! For my meal I ordered the sesame chicken. It came with rice and steamed vegetables. I really didn't want the rice with it...so I had asked to sub the rice for broccoli rabe. The waitress said they don't do substitutions...so that was rather disappointing because the rice wasn't great anyway. My husband ordered egg noodles with chicken and he said he enjoyed it! We will definitely be coming back to Del Monico...but more for the drinks and appetizers. If they simplify the menu a bit and allow more freedom with the menu, we may frequent this place more for dinner. Overall, though, definitely recommend it!! read more

It took about 15 minutes before anyone even came to our table to ask if we wanted something to drink or bring a menu out. Our drinks took a very long time to come out which I didn't understand considering the place was dead. The food was ok but nothing special. After we ate we ordered another round of drinks that we NEVER got. We waited for over a half hour for them and even asked our server if they were on the way out and he told us yes. We finally couldn't wait any longer and decided to just ask for the check and leave. The second round of drinks weren't on our tab either which means the server didn't even put them in.
