I moved to PdR about 6 months ago and was due for an eye exam. I live down the street and figured I'd try the local optometrist. I've worn glasses/contacts since I was in the 6th grade, so I've had my fair share of eye doctors. These guys were great! Both doctors were fantastic. Since I was a first time patient, they took the time to sit down with me and discuss my eye health and my lifestyle. I never felt rushed and actually felt like they cared about my well being. They also have a large selection of frames to try on. I didn't give them the full 5 stars because I wish they called to confirm appointments the dy before you're supposed to come in. I'm pretty forgetful and this would have really helped me out. Truly, I only dropped them one star because I am a lame-o. But they are open on saturdays and until 7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I saw Dr. Kevin Hashimoto for a vision check up and contact prescription. It's a very nice office, with competent and pleasant staff. Most impressive is the level of attention given to their patients. I've been wearing contacts for over 15 years and have never received this quality of care from an eye doctor. They really care about their patients and it shows. I received appointment confirmation calls, free samples, and the appointments were quick and easy. They even had retinal scanning available so I didn't have to have my eyes dilated on my lunch hour. The staff deals with all the insurance, so I didn't have to do a thing. I came here on a Saturday afternoon with an eye issue, and Dr. Lin was available without a very long wait. Great news since my ophthalmologist was not available on the weekends or without an appointment. The office was was walking distance from my apartment, very clean and well designed, they seemed to have a large selection of eyeglasses, although I wasn't there to get glasses, I would definitely consider it when I am in the market for them. This place has great customer service. Dr Jenny Sung was my optometrist. She found out I had a slight astigmatism in one eye which I never knew about and my previous doctors didnt really mention to me, maybe because it was so light. She gave me contacts to try out, for astigmatism and definitely my eyesight got even better! But for some people like me, who dont want to deal with managing separate contacts for each eye just want the same thing for both eyes. She said thats my choice and let me decide. :) They have a good selection of contacts. They have the normal and the night and day kind (which i use). The have a lot of nice frames which I will check out next time. Also I hear they do good repairs. They take VSP and I can use my FSA here. read more

Just now noticed you can schedule appointments online via Yelp! +1 points. Del Rey Optometry has a much more personable feel and their customer service is great from the reception to the docs. When it comes to healthcare, dentistry, optometry, etc it's important to me to not feel like I'm at a generic franchise type establishment. Here you feel comfortable and not like you're at a fast food version of healthcare. Dr Anna has always been pleasant and is very throughout. They've always fitted glasses perfectly even if I needed to come back for adjustments later as frames stretch all the time. They were even able to get me lenses for my $300+ Burberry sunglasses when I scratched them for a very reasonable price and were able to take back frames that didn't fit me well. read more

The people at Dey Rey Optometry are great. First off, they take VSP, my insurance provider. Second, they have a wide variety of very fashionable lenses (though most are pretty pricey). Third, they are very friendly and really helped me out: I am new to wearing glasses; I have only needed them for a year. I was never comfortable wearing my last prescription; it just never felt right. They set me up with a new prescription and ordered the glasses. Unfortunately, it still did not feel right. So they examined my eyes again and ordered a new prescription... all for no charge. The new glasses came and they were excellent. Thanks a million guys! read more

Despite my terrible vision, I've never stuck with an eye doctor year over year, usually choosing to go to Costco for ease. I've been wearing glasses since 1st grade, so I've seen plenty of optometrists, but I've had the best experience so far with Dr. Lin. Dr. Lin is incredibly smart, sharp, and thorough. She took the time to listen to my specific vision needs and problems, and tailored a solution based on my schedule and vision correction issues. I really appreciate doctors who take the time to explain why they're doing things, rather than just throwing instructions/prescriptions at me. In found everyone at this office extremely competent and friendly. Dr. Lin is the best, most knowledgeable optometrist I've ever had and Chuck, the optician, was very helpful in getting me into the best pairs of glasses and sunglasses. They have a wide selection of frames in all price points. I like how they have some more independent frame companies as opposed to just the usual designer duds. I definitely recommend them! I took 1 star off because they failed to contact my husband and I when our Rx sunglasses came in. We called over 2 weeks later and they informed us that they were there already, with no apology for not letting us know. Oh well, people make mistakes. read more

I've lived in Playa for 2 years and never seen anyone come in or out of this place. I often wondered how they were still in business. The other day I went in to see if they could fit a new pair of sunglasses I bought. To my surprise, the place has 2 customers inside at 3 pm on a Monday! And the woman hellped me right away, fitting my sunglasses in a matter of minutes, for free! I don't need glasses but if and when the day comes, I'll be heading back to Del Rey Optometry! read more

I would definitely recommend Del Rey, the eye doctor is so well skilled as I came in for contacts and eye glasses and one eye turns in but only when I'm tired and she really took the time so that we could get it right which is very important because I paid for contacts before that I couldnt wear and I spent over $500 for so to have a doctor take her time is precisely what you want. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The only thing is that I wish they had more high end glasses as am willing to spend more money than average because it is an investment. At the end of the day I got two great pairs of high end glasses and was very happy with the service. read more

I normally don't leave reviews, but feel like I need to leave one for this place. I've never had anything short of a great experience here. Everyone is very friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Unlike some of the other reviews, I've only experienced phenomenal customer service. I've worked a lot with Marisol on a few things and she has been just a pleasure to work with. She's done a great job at answering my questions and helping me find the right frames. She is also very honest and transparent. Although I currently live on the East Coast, whenever I'm in town, I love coming back for anything eyeglass-related. Ordered glasses - then had to wait weeks for the glasses to be ordered and sent to store. They weren't quite right but they suggested go home and live with them for a few weeks. I tried and brought them back, they adjusted the prescription now having to wait weeks again. They had talked me into a tri view lenses - which i ended up just hating. If your eyes are not pointed exactly straight, it looks like looking through a fish bowl. I have a very low prescription - more or less reading glasses. So i think I was over sold way more options than needed maybe because I have insurance. I ended up getting single vision glasses (readers). No refund for the price i paid for all the bells and whistles to now the basic glasses which is all I needed. Going back and forth took about 5 months to get something I can work with. Im going back to Lenscrafters after this. Very disappointed. read more

***Update: Surprisingly enough I received a phone call apologizing for the situation by the office manager. That was very refreshing and definitely bumped them up from a 1 star in my still fresh review this morning. Not sure if I would want to give this place another try because I was also notified that after double checking my records I was over charged even thought I had expressly asked multiple times during payment. I think that call from the manager resulted because I had made a correction to the front desk staff letting them know that they should have notified me over the phone regarding these issues prior to me making the rushed trip and I guess that got back to management. I honestly had really wanted to like this place as I lived around the corner and thought it would be incredibly convenient for me to pop in when I needed assistance. That was not the case. The staff is very polite and cordial however there were several erroneous mistakes that occurred after my exam that left me more than slightly frustrated. Upon notification that my prescription was ready for pickup, I popped into the office and collected my items. Since I was getting both glasses and contact lens, I had tested the lens I was given for a week and asked the front desk staff for my contact lens prescription (I was already given my glasses prescription twice actually). They stated my provider would need to sign it and that they would not be into work until the weekday and that they would email my prescription to me. I thought no problem, was given the password, and made a note with the front desk that I already saw problems with how dizzy the glasses made me feel and that I might not be comfortable with the prescription however I would test it out for a week and come back with any concerns for adjustments which they stated they would note in the system. After waiting for over a week and a half and still not getting my emailed prescription I called the office to ask them what was going on and also to inform them that my glasses was making me dizzy and that I believed the prescription was too strong for comfort. They had no note that I made that concern when I picked up the glasses the first time and also they had not asked the provider to sign the prescription at all. It was the exact same individual I spoke prior who stated they would get it done. They told me to come in to bring my glasses in to take a look at the problem only for me to be told again on site that I would need to make a schedule appointment for re-prescription. I could have done that on the phone, it would have saved me a trip rushing home from work. A day later I finally get my emailed prescription for what I thought was my contact lens only to be given again my prescription for my regular glasses. I feel like this place just does not follow up or follow through with their word and is VERY disorganized. They also push sales pretty hard and their prices are through the roof. I am definitely not coming back and am looking into making a formal complaint. read more

Marisol even ordered me a pair so I could see what the color would look like - and it ended up being perfect for me. My eye exam was great! Dr explained to me in detail what she was doing, and why. I suffer from keratoconus and Del Rey Optometry successfully treated my condition with the most professionalism and patience comparably/if not better than I would have received from an cornea specialist (which I've been to many).
