I've been coming to Del Rey Optometry since I moved to the area...now a decade ago! The front desk staff are always pleasant and explain all the weird rules associate with vision insurance (like not paying for a retinal scan). I usually see Dr. Lin, who is outstanding. She takes great care to explain everything and answer questions. I never feel like she's rushing to get to the next patient. I have been coming here for a couple of years now. I live near Culver City but I still prefer to make the drive out to Playa del Rey because the staff is so great. They are always friendly and welcoming. My wife and I love Marisol as she always knows how to cater to our taste in glasses. Dr. Lin is super friendly and very thorough. She's always happy to answer any questions I have and is very informative about what she's doing throughout my eye exam. They can be a bit pricey but they always are up front with costs and always able to tell us what our insurance can cover, which is a huge help in deciding what glasses we can and can't afford. The doctor is fine, but they PUSH TO SELL SO MUCH IT IS REALLY ANNOYING. If you tell them you want a new prescription, they try to get you to come in and buy the contacts from them. When you go in for an appointment, they try to sell every single extra multiple times. Honestly I am considering switching because their overly enthusiastic sales approach is annoying. Every time I come here I'm pleasantly surprised with the staff and efficiency. I never feel like they're trying to upsell me on anything.... Which I've had in the past. They actually try to save me money compared to others I've tried in the area. I'll plan to come here as long as we live in California. Plus I have a toddler who's with me most of the time. Both my husband and I had eye exams at Del Rey Optometry. I saw Dr. Jenny Sung I was a bit worried as she seemed to rush through the exam and I was not sure that she did a proper job. Now I am going to go to see a different doctor, here's why: My husband has just spent over $400 dollars having new lenses put into his three sets of glasses after he was so unhappy with the bad job that Del Rey Optometry did. The new doctor told him that the prescription was wrong and that the add-ons that they added at Del Rey Optometry were a waste of money. He really notices the difference with the new lenses and we will never go to Del Rey Optometry again. read more

Even though they had very friendly staff...that didn't make up for the disappointment after disappointment. I have VSP insurance, I knew that they would cover the eye exam, but also needed the contact exam...I wasn't told about the $75 cost until it was already done (I know my bad too for not asking...but good customer service would see that I had Medi-cal and would say this other exam with be x amount!) Returned a week later after wearing the trial contacts (which I have worn those kinds for over 6 years) only to have to return the next day with them in! Ughhhhhhh....Maddddd!!!! I was told that they would order my contacts and that they would be in today...FAIL...they are not...then to top it off they gave me an expired rebate coupon! read more

These folks stink. Two weeks after Dr. Kobayashi's initial exam, my glasses came back from the lab. They gave me double vision! Back to the lab they went, and two weeks later, I tried them on again. And for the second time, they gave me double vision! Dr. Kobayashi reexamined my eyes and tweaked my prescription. And after a third try, my glasses from Del Rey Optometry made me see double--worse than ever. I've worn glasses for years and have had many excellent eye exams. Not at Del Rey Optometry! So, if you need an eye exam and glasses or contacts, try Costco, Lens Crafters or Sears--anywhere but Del Rey Optometry. You'll save yourself tons of time and frustration. read more

In an effort to find a new local eye doctor my husband and I tried this place out. Location is convenient for us and they have a free parking lot that is shared with a few other shops. The office is very clean and well decorated. They have a good selection of glasses as well. The staff are all so friendly and helpful and the doctor was great. By far the best optometry office I've ever visited. They take the time to walk you through your eye tests and you walk away understanding your eyes. Everyone in the office is extremely polite and friendly. I will take a extra minute to give a special shout out to Deborah for being exceptional at helping me figure out my eyewear and needs that will help maintain my vision. I'm actually looking forward to next year already to get my eyes dilated (says no one) but when you have a friendly staff like them, you actually don't mind the eye torture. This is the best eye doctor I've ever been too, and I've been wearing glasses since the 7th grade. First off the assistant was great, I can't remember her name, but she explained everything she was doing and was so professional and nice. Dr Anna Pennino was also pleasant and did a really thorough eye exam, the most thorough I've ever had actually. She let me know that the eye drops I had been using were causing major irritation in my eyes and showed me the photographs of my eyes close up, she gave me a prescription for some allergy drops and wetting drops, and now my eyes are clear and no longer feel itchy and dry. So happy! I highly recommend them! read more

This was my second time here and i love it and booked an appointment for my husbane too!! I saw Dr.Pennino both times and I wish all doctors were like her! She takes time to explains issues and medical terms, is funny and knows what she is talking about! It is not "in and out in a second. Today I had to fill out all application papers again even though I have already been there so they may need to check their system ;) but pennino recognized me in an instance even though the last time I saw her was 1.5 years ago. The five stars go directly to Dr. Lin. The staff is good and Lori is wonderful. The stars are for Dr. Lin because she is "as good as it gets." I have learned more about the eye in the past few years then in my life, and I am pushing 60 and worn glasses since i was 15. I had a concern today about my eye and stopped in to ask Lori if I should be concerned. Dr. Lin happened to be standing at the desk when I walked in and took me right away. She did a thorough exam, before and after dilating, and explained everything to me in plain English and with pictures to illustrate what she was explaining. Dr. Lin also gave me her cell # before I left so I could call or text her if I was concerned that something was not in the norm. I had seen Dr. Lin for exams prior and she told me things about my vision then, and explained things that I had not even asked. I am not good about asking questions when it comes to health-related issues, so I loved and appreciated that she explained things just because that's how/who she is. When I went in today with a big concern I was not planning to see a doctor unless I could see Dr. Lin. No dings on the other doctors -'it is just that Dr. Lin is amazing and I know how thorough, patient and non threatening she is. AWESOME eye doctor. And a nice, kind person, too. In addition, they went out of their way to order spare parts for my old Ray-Ban sunglasses and followed up with Ray-Ban when the part they sent was the wrong color.
