I was having breakfast and Coffee after Church at this Del Taco in Diamond Bar, it was almost 12 noon, Cold weather, cloudy and some drizzle, I saw this older Lady standing outside waiting for the bus with a bag on her shoulder..; a moment later she walked in for some warmth, she looked so humble and reminded me of my Mom, and what life can be for any of us at this age ,I felt like I need to buy her breakfast; I went to the counter to order, and looked at her and said would you like some breakfast ? it's delicious in here I'm buying; she politely said no thank you. few minutes later I saw her opening the door and running to catch the bus. This kind young woman that works at Taco Bell went out the door running after the lady I saw her from behind the window handing the lady a bag of food that she has prepared probably after she saw me offering and the Lady saying no, I was so touched when I saw the lady taking the bag from her before she goes onto the bus. While driving around doing errands today, I decided to pick up something quick and easy for lunch and stopped at Del Taco... they used to make "Nacho Fries". It's just fries with hot melted cheese on them but I got a huge craving for them!!! Not even when business is slow due to "COVID-19" and TV commercials are reminding everyone to support restaurants!!! I should've driven away but I chose to order anyways... when I got home, my order was incomplete!!! I ordered six (6) items (two of everything) but only got five (5)... when business is slow, when there's no lunch rush, when there's only drive-thru traffic and zero walk-in customers, how do you screw up somebody's order?!?! I didn't get mad... I called to speak to the manager but no one answered the phone!!! I left a message because surely they'll want to fix their mistakes but nope... no one called back!!! The Del Taco was a little further off. I didn't start hitting it more often until I had my own vehicle. I'd go to Yogi's arcade on Chapman and Harbor, play a bunch of Puzzle Fighter II and Wind Jammers, then stroll over to DT for some green burritos, chicken soft tacos, li'l cheeseburgers, tasty fries, tastier deluxe chili cheese fries, deluxe chicken burritos, 8-layer (now Veggie Works) burritos, deluxe del beef burritos, and spicy jack chicken quesadillas. Oh, boy. Currently you can get yourself a pretty darn good deal: taco, combo burrito, and drink for 2.99. Tuesday is taco night--after 3 p.m. or something tacos are 3 for a buck and change. This Del Taco was a fixture during my days in the dorms at Cal Poly. I still hit it from time to time. The only problem? They have a surcharge situation for using plastic. This location is more convenient than anything. I usually stop here on my way to school when I do stop in, but I wouldn't really go out of my way to come here. The service is good, but the food is usually so so. Most of the time the food is overcooked, but doesn't taste like anything. One time the turkey was so funny I stopped eating after the first bite. I have been coming to this location for years. Before the ownership change and small remodel, the morning crew and food were amazing for Del Taco. The best workers seem to have either quit or been let go. Now, customers are simply a number and the food is gross. The current group of cooks leave a lot to be desired. Overcooked steak, chicken, or beef, then the next day, it is luke warm. There is no consistency; sometimes a steak and egg burrito has less in it that the steak and egg taco. Or a taco has meat that tastes old and dry. As for cleanliness, look closely at the drink station, ceiling in the kitchen, or near the registers to see that cleaning is not a priority. Another example of doing things half-assed is one of the tables has been bent for years. During the remodel they put in new seat backs and left the table top leaning about 10 degrees. I don't think I'll come back to this spot. Tacos are actually not too bad for a Del Taco. Most of the time the dining area is clean. I'm not nitpicky OR a fancy foo foo type of guy, I don't complain about ambiance or not getting my ass kissed either. The wife and I ate here last Wednesday or Thursday and go some of those $1 chicken tacos with salsa fresca. First taco, good to go. But when I went to bite into my second taco, I felt something hard in my mouth. I thought maybe my tooth had broken or something, or maybe a filling had come out, but NOPE!!!! A big black piece of plastic about the size of a Hot Tamale is what I pulled out instead. I tried to be cool about it and asked the kid at the counter for the supervisor to let him know about quality control and checking the damn tacos before they go out there. I spoke with Angel the supervisor and he didn't know what to say. The dude making the tacos in the back said he didn't know anything about how it could possibly have gotten into my taco. And the kid behind the counter decided to tell me that it was probably a piece of the bottom of the chair leg. That's now what I wanted to hear. It's Del Taco you can't go wrong with the food. Only problem I have with this place is that you have hard time understanding them through that damn speaker. When I order 10 tacos they ring me up for 3 tacos. So never think they are having special deals if the price comes out lower. Always check your food because they also try to bust a fast one.
