First day and opened promptly at 9 AM. Tons of employees and corporate present. For the most part things went smoothly. It's not big inside but things are laid out so that there's more seating than I expected. I was first to receive my food, even tho third in line. Just got a simple order of a snack taco and drink. The hard shell taco was fresh and stayed together without cracking into pieces unlike the other place. The filling was good and cheese and lettuce was ample. No tomatoes on the snack taco, but for $1.25 it was fine. I was disappointed to learn they won't be serving breakfast at this location, although a corporate person said that might change if there's a demand for it, so you all know what to do!! So welcome back to Durham, Del Taco. Breakfast burritos would definitely be a welcome addition and so would bringing back the salsa bar!!

Finally has opened! Wasn't busy at all and was able to get in the drive thru rather quickly. Came to find out breakfast isn't being served here which is strange. The design of this building is super modern and eye catching. The food itself seemed just like you'd get it out west. I'm sure they still have some kinks to work out but overall they are doing great!

I hope the burritos stay this good and it's not just an opening month thing. Hot, gooey, yum!

Yes, I'm from California and have been waiting for Del Taco to open. If you think my nostalgia will sway my review, you're correct. The first bite of my chicken burrito brought me right back to the 1990's and my Clairemont Drive home location. I also had to get a bean burrito (for science) and it was piping hot! So delicious with some mild sauce. Del Tacos mild sauce has a real black peppery flavor to it that just hits different than the bell. And sadly this was the best tortilla I've had in a while (that was not from a sit down Mexican restaurant). The location can be difficult to get in and out of, especially if it's busy (Don't try to park toward the back left of the building - you'll get stuck and have to back out). Those working the drive thru were kind and patient. My husband ordered nacho fries and she said we don't have that. It's fries with queso on it - a West Coast Del Taco staple! She was able to accommodate and life can go on. The outside of the building is cute, minimalist compared to how remember it looking, but it's nice. I agree with other early reviewers that breakfast service would be a nice addition. Come check it out. If you don't like it, more for us West Coast transplants.

To the point positive and negative review: + Open till 3am + Friendly and helpful staff + Good enough seating in lobby + Food about on the level of Moe's (above Taco Bell) - They have no breakfast? (major misstep being on the edge of RTP with people coming into work) - The traffic pattern around the restaurant is terrible (Don't come in from the gas station or try to drive around the building unless in the drive thru) -Overhyped because transplants from the west are excited about a taste of home. (Nothing wrong with this! Still overhyped though) -They have a burger on the menu. If you're going to a place called Del Taco and ordering a burger with Cookout being right across the street please stop what you are doing and read a few more of my reviews. Overall if I was in the area I would stop here but it's not worth making a special trip for unless you've grown up around it. If they open up breakfast it may be a different story we'll see! 4 Stars rating based on fast food restaurants only.

I've had a very disappointing experience with this location during the evening hours. Whenever I visit during the day, my orders are usually correct and I have no issues. However, when I come at night, I almost always have to check my food before leaving or turn around to have my order remade because something is wrong. This pattern has become consistent enough that it raises concerns about the level of service and quality control during night shifts. In addition to order accuracy issues, the customer service experience has often been poor, with employees displaying unprofessional attitudes. I believe upper management should spend time observing the evening operations firsthand to better understand the challenges customers are experiencing. There appears to be a significant difference between the daytime and nighttime service, and improvements are needed to ensure customers receive the same quality experience regardless of when they visit.

So glad a del taco cane to the area! I've always enjoyed their food. The basics like rice, beans, and meat have always seemed like better quality at del taco than the other taco place with a bell. My favorite are their fries, especially chili cheese or carne asada, fish tacos, any of their cali burritos, and the basics bean and cheese burritos with green sauce. The inside is fresh and new with bright colors and helpful staff. They don't seem to have all the promo items but hopefully with time they'll participate in them. One bummer is they don't serve breakfast hopefully they'll add that as well.

Keeping it honest, I'm excited that this spot is in Durham, North Carolina. Just tried them for the first time and the food is good. The quantity is wild. Or maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. I was excited when I saw value menu where they had à la cart tacos price at $1.30. I ordered one and when I got that taco, it was so small, it was literally perfect for a kid. I also ordered a fish taco, which was no more than three bites. I ordered these donut holes that were actually pretty tasty. However they were extremely greasy. I also ordered the snack size queso and chips and that was a joke. there was 11 chips in the bag and a small ramekin of queso. My first time at this taco spot and I was excited because of them first breaking into this area, but my goodness, the portions are pretty small or maybe I just ordered the wrong things. Great taste though

    Taco Salad With Fresh Guac

The taco salad with extra beef is great. Full of fresh guac, seasoned beef, pico, chips and salsa. Fresh and hearty. Service was fast and friendly.

The reviews were glowing, and repeatedly warned about the wait, that my expectations were probably set too high going in. I got the steak and eggs crepe and added avocado, extra steak, and kale. The eggs sit on top, and mine came closer to over-hard than the over-medium I asked for -possibly from sitting in the to-go box for 15 minutes, so I'll give some benefit of the doubt there. The crepe itself was tasty, and honestly I'd come back to try something off the sweets menu. But the fillings didn't land. The steak was a little chewy, and the mushrooms were cut too thick for a crepe -- they made it hard to cut cleanly and felt out of place. The add-ons I'll leave alone since those were my call. Overall the dish felt fairly run-of-the-mill against the hype. One note: this might be a dish better served by not allowing customizations, to keep it consistent to its intent. What threw me is that "steak and eggs" is the menu item, yet they also offer a carne asada crepe with no eggs ...so the only real difference is eggs placed on top, which doesn't change the crepe itself. Felt clear as mud after unboxing my meal. The latte I got was standard. Nothing wrong with it, nothing memorable. TL:DR this read as a solid fallback breakfast more than the must-try the reviews promised. The dogs I saw at the outside tables kept this closer to a 3.5 than falling on the other side of 3.

This new East Durham location is a little smaller than the old one, but they kept the brick aesthetic and the same jazz décor; it has great vibes, but it can get a little noisy with large groups. They now have a small parking lot. The new building has charm, although the surrounding area feels industrial and somewhat run-down. One of the restaurant's windows was boarded up, broken glass had spread into the parking-lot entrance, and barbed wire was visible from our table. The chicken is always tangy and moist. I don't know what they put in the breading, but I'm like a moth to a flame to that stuff. The mac and cheese is some of the best in the Triangle. Our server, Lanyah, was a hustler! While there, she had 9 tables, and one of them was a large group of about 10 people. My wife and I each ordered A Classy Hen with a Baby Blueberry and a Peach Apricot Shmear. I liked the Peach Apricot better. My wife got fresh fruit as her side, which was mostly just orange slices. This, unfortunately, is the end of any positives. Because it was just Lanyah, the service was slow, and it appears from our various times coming to Dame's that slow service is the rule, not the exception. Our server said that it was typical to have just a single server, one cook, and a busser--who was not that helpful. Lanyah was still busing some tables and when there was a loud crash that sounded like dishes falling, she ran and checked on it herself. It took her a minute to get us water and then take our order, but it was understandable. She hugged my wife when we were leaving when we told her she deserved better. The cook was doing their best, but it took 48-minutes and 49 seconds to get our order after it was put in...yes, I timed it. One family walked out due to the long wait. There was another male staff member-I'm not sure whether he was the manager, but he spent most of the evening sitting in the bar area. He was not seating people, bringing out orders or drinks, or helping out our overwhelmed server. They were supposed to close at 7:30pm, but we walked out the door at 8:05pm and the large party was still there waiting for their food, with the other man still sitting in the bar. We want to love Dame's, but slow service just overshadows everything else that is positive. Until they hire an appropriate number of staff, we will not be back.
