Black-Owned and phenomenal! Being new to the area and hearing about how renowned the wineries in Virginia are, I was on a mission to visit one before the summer ended. Once I found out Delaplane Cellars was Black-Owned, it was a no-brainer. This winery is impeccable! The views of the vineyards, fields, mountains, and the cellar itself as you drive up are breathtaking. Making a reservation was a breeze, as was the check-in process. As I was waiting for my college friend and her husband to arrive, I was able to taste a couple of reds before I went outside to our table. The live music inside added a nice touch to the venue, and the inside has such an elegant look and feel, with comfortable seating and windows to take in the sights. There are multiple levels where you can sit outside, and we were on the top. Again, breathtaking views of the fields. The first wine I tried was the Adjacency. One of the smoothest wines I've ever had. The same could be said about the Rusticity. Both hit just the right notes with each sip. When my friends arrived, we caught up and put in food orders and a bottle of the Adjacency. We ordered the Virginia Sampler charcuterie board, fresh-baked baguettes, and the pepperoni flatbread. All of which hit the mark for our hunger and pairing with the wines. The Cabernet Franc was uniquely tasty, with a subtle bite to it. The rest of our time, we ordered a bottle of the Viognier and Rose. One huge plus and takeaway is that none of the wines we tried were overly sweet, even the Viognier with its white peach, melon, and jasmine flavors. The rose was our last bottle before we departed. My friend has had a membership here for a couple of years and I've been fortunate to enjoy the member day on a quarterly basis. The complementary snacks are definitely a hit miss but I do love the a free glass of wine. The seasonal charcuterie boards and fresh made baguettes cant be beat. I look forward to that every time! The view is lovely and the chairs comfortable. We've enjoyed great seating indoors and out. Definitely make a reservation. My one gripe is parking: there's no designated handicapped spots which sucks. My friend generally ends up dropping me off at the entrance and then parking back down the hill. So we went here for our 4 year anniversary. This particular wknd, the wknd of Nov 15th, just so happened to be my birthday wknd as well. To top it off, this was the same wknd i chose to propose, to my now fiancée! The experience we had at Delaplane, from the wine tastings, to the charcuterie food board, to the tour of the vineyard, to the knowledge and conversations we had with both Amanda and Melanie. It was all completely *top notch* and on this particular day, at least for us. It was seemingly second to none! We were treated like VIP guests and just loved on with absolute kindness and value! Reservations @Delaplane Cellars to kickstart the Fall season. This winery is beautiful with amazing elevated views. There are picnic tables near the vines for seating and an array of other indoor and outdoor options that best suits your preference. There was a slight mixup with our reservation but it was quickly sorted out with minimal issues. Reservations have a time limit for seating which is strictly adhered to so keep that in mind. The wine tasting (flight) in my opinion was priced well but there is no engagement as the card and wine is just brought to your table for you to discuss and figure it out yourselves. I think this way is missing a big marketing mistake. In my opinion, you would want to sell the wine you are producing.... Just a thought. Nonetheless, no wine we tried was tasty enough to our liking to purchase anyway so no missed opportunity there. Lastly, the menu is limited but you can bring your own food. Also, if you want to order food to be delivered or can be done (as explained by the hostess). There was live music inside. The interior space is really small so keep that in mind. Also, the music cannot be heard outside. Because there is a rather enjoyable winery with expansive options not too far from my home, I don't think this place is worth the drive for me to visit a second time but I do recommend it to others. read more

An absolute gem! From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable--Dederick was attentive and knowledgeable without being overbearing. The tasting room, loft area and expansive patio with breathtaking views were awesome and very relaxing. The wines were all good quality. We preferred the whites over red, especially the Chardonnay- they offer 3 versions- oaked, unoaked and barrel fermented! We brought bottles of all three home. Reds were primarily bordeax style blends, each with unique characteristics. It's rare to find a place that exceeds expectations on all fronts like this. Our late Saturday afternoon visit was nice. You have to check in once entering and they will seat you. We placed our order and were seated then had to follow up with them to get our wine. I enjoyed my time at Delaplane Cellars so much! I came here for my friend birthday and we had a 10/10 experience. We booked an igloo and got the charcuterie board and everything was delicious. The chocolate truffles, pickles, everything! The service was great! Richard was so nice, funny, and always checked on us. I would say this is a pretty casual and classy place! If you want to celebrate birthdays or other significant events Delaplane can be a great spot for that too. The views are amazing and when the sun is out you can capture some of the best photos. We started with the standard flight, which then led to tasting bubbles (a traditional method blanc de blancs), and culminated with a bottle of their 2019 Piedmont Station Bordeaux-style red blend. Wine collectors will appreciate this winery for their age-worthy reds, but casual drinkers will also appreciate the sparkling options and early-drinking whites and roses. We expected this winery to be crowded because we visited on a weekend during peak time. It wasn't busy at all and we were asked if we had a reservation. The main reason we won't be returning is that it is unreasonably expensive for no reason. Each tasting is $27 and you get to sample four wines (2 whites and 2 reds). 3 out of the 4 are blends. Not worth it, even for the mountain views. It's also self-serve so you don't get the traditional tasting experience nor do you hear the history of the winery. Their least expensive bottle of red is $53. If I can't even try your varietals, then what's the point? We were quick to finish up so we could head to another winery for a better experience. read more

Delaplane cellars offers an elegant tasting experience with comfortable leather seating indoors,two levels of outdoor decks, fire pits outdoors and gorgeous sunset views. We tried the wine tasting before deciding on a bottle to pair with the Virginia Sampler - three cheeses, sausage, marcona almonds and pistachios, olives and olive oil plus an outstanding fig chutney to accompany a fresh baked baguette. The sampler truly can substitute for a lunch. All of the wines we sampled were outstanding - their French oak aged Chardonnay was the standout among the whites for us. Just enough oak to smooth out the edges without being over oaked. (We are not fans of the 80s style heavily oaked Chardonnay - this is definitely not that). All of the reds were outstanding- we settled on a bottle of Adjacency to accompany our charcuterie sampler board. Service is excellent, our server checked on us multiple times and even brought out more olives and chutney. There is live music on the weekend. Parking is on the grassy slope below the tasting room although there is a drop off area in front if necessary. There's an uphill walk to the main entry. read more

We went here to enjoy a day off since this is my boyfriends favorite VA winery. The scenery is gorgeous from the grounds the property to the views in the distance. We sat on a patio table under an umbrella and it was all so peaceful there. All of the staff was very friendly, greeted us promptly and came out a few times to ensure we had everything we needed. My favorite part was hands down the amazing charcuterie board. While pricey at $43, it has all top quality cheeses, olives, dried fruit, salami, fig jam and fresh baked bread. Sensational plate that would cost me this much if I bought all the ingredients at the store. Well worth it! Finding spaces and places to feel comfortable and relaxed during a pandemic can be challenging. Additionally, it's so much easier to get caught in a bit of a routine (or rut) when your social life might be more limited than in a pre-COVID world. That's why I'm so glad my friends planned a little adventure out to Delaplane, just an hour drive from DC. Despite the traffic, even the the drive out there was a nice change of pace, especially once I was able to break away from some of the congestion and enjoy the open landscape. We made patio reservations on a Sunday afternoon and we totally lucked out on a picturesque day. When I pulled up to the property, I was pleased that there was plenty to parking and it was abundantly clear I wouldn't have any issue locating my friends that had already arrived. They were already seated and had ordered a tasting for us, while they set up their picnic spread that they packed for us. (They sell food as well but best to call ahead to ensure!) The staff wore masks and the tables were nicely spaced out. If you were to enter the the interior, masks were required (which I always love to see.) Everything was pristine, clean and the staff was so nice and friendly. There is a time limit on patio seating, so just be sure to arrive on time. The good news is, there are also picnic tables and lounge chairs just below the patio where you can just take in the sites of the vines and enjoy some sun and fresh air. While I was only here for a few hours, it felt like a mini getaway and would be a perfect place to spend a local staycation. They also have private rooms that would be perfect for a special occasion or as an event space. I was also excited to learn that the Delaplane is now Black and minority owned, which is pretty rare especially for this region. Obviously, I'd love and support this business regardless, but that's just one more unique feature that aligns with some of my own consumer interests. If you haven't been out to visit, I definitely encourage you to do so soon! read more

I'm usually a red over white wine kinda girl but their white - Petit Manseng resembling a Riesling is my absolute favorite. Their winter special - mulled wine is also the best I've ever had. They even offer blankets to keep you warm in the winter months at no additional cost. For live entertainment, they had a father/daughter duo singing and playing country music. Delaplane still has solid wines and spectacular views. The charcuterie boards are as good as if not better than the wine. I got there too late in the day to get the fresh bread (they were out) and I own that regret. They've added a second deck in addition to me outdoor picnic table seating near the grapes! All tables felt a safe distance apart, and most folks and all servers wore masks. I've come in the winter pre-COVID and they had wood-burning fire pits, so it feels like this patio is something we will all benefit from even once summer ends. We (family & bf) decided to go on an semi-impromtu trip to drink some wine and support a black owned business-- especially if we *were* gonna eat out. It was rather warm, but also at the beginning of autumn soo, I guess that was expected. We tried to go when the leaves were colorful but we went a TAD bit early. In Any case, the wine was great and so was the food. To be honest, the service could have been better. It took us a while to get seated, so while we waited we ordered our food. We had booked the wine tasting in advance so that came to us right when we got seated, essentially, BUT the food took around 30 minutes to get to us, even after we had reminded our sever. We gave them the benefit of the doubt, being that it was during the unprecedented year of 2020. Would go again, for sure. It was a great time and far enough from home to have a cute drive, but short enough that you're not like "OMG I need to be home NOW" TIP: "home" is Springfield area. read more

The views were gorgeous and any seat on the upper or lower deck gave you a breathtaking panoramic. They had flights, glasses and bottles available. I chose a glass of rose and the merry flight. The wines were the best of five wineries I had been to in the area. The rose and whites were perfect for the 95 degree heat we had. The live acoustic music they had was wonderful and the staff could not have been more accommodating and attentive. Also the charcuterie plate is a must get!! We stumbled up in this place as we were looking for "something to do" as we were boondock camping in our Airstream along the Shenandoah (for which I have ANOTHER great review coming!!) Let me start by saying the wine was AMAZING! We aren't wine snobs, but we LOVE a good wine. Our flight was 2 whites (I loved 1) and 2 reds (I loved 1.) We bought the white I loved and then bought the rose untasted, as our airstream friends were joining us on the river later that night and SHE loves rose. (SHE is a wine snob and LOVED the rose!!) So when it comes to wine, this is a really nice place to purchase some lovely VA wines! But here is the BEST part of our experience! The Ambience, the View, but more importantly, the acceptance of our pups in the tasting room! Delaplane allows dogs in the tasting room on the 3rd weekend of every month!! We were going to leave our pups in the car (it was a crisp clear day, and they were in NO HARM of overheating, etc. We car crate them in the fall in the proper conditions...) but we got to bring them in!! So we had a flight (YUM!) some cheese & marconas, and enjoyed a GORGEOUS view with yummy wines! (bought 2 bottles to take back with us to the campsite!) Delaplane has doggie bowls, pup cups, treats, etc for these days. We were inside (as outside was too windy and cold) and it was HEAVEN for all 4 of us! (Me, the hubs and the pooches!) NOW LET ME BE CLEAR - we have good pooches! no barking, licking, jumping, and they settle down next to us, aren't startled by strangers, don't beg at the table (or from their spots on the floor) etc. One is a trained TDI therapy dog and is Canine Good Citizen & Canine Good Citizen-Advanced and the other is his baby brother (he sorta raised him, so our blued eyed boy has EXCELLENT manners as well!) Both are over 60lbs and both are VERY used to being in people places because of how they have been trained. We made sure to be off in a corner so as not to bother other guests and we kept them on a tight leash so they knew they were "working" and needed to sit and be quiet while mommy and daddy (yes, we are fur-parents as we are also empty nesters now!) enjoyed a pleasant view, a flight tasting, and some cheese. I always like to encourage doggy parents to be GOOD GUESTS in GREAT PLACES so all of us don't lose the opportunity to enjoy such marvelous possibilities! We will be driving down from Falls Church every 3rd Saturday of the month for a fun afternoon and to replenish out cellar... the wines were AMAZING!! This is one of my favorite wineries in the area. I really love the ambiance and the facility is gorgeous. We always sit on the patio and I love that they have firepits for the chillier weather. It's really a refreshing visit - away from the city and overlooking the hills. You can't beat it. Most importantly, we really like the wine here. Even though we've tried a lot, we still typically do a tasting especially when we bring new people with us. I think the quality and price point is great, and love the self-guided tasting option as well. We had a very good experience at Delaplane Cellars. Granted it felt a little weird as everyone stared at us walking from our cars up the hill to the winery (people visiting not the staff lol). Yes, parking could be a little better but what do you expect from rolling hills??? Am I right??? The wines here are pretty good and the service, staff and food were top notch! Let me start off by saying that this place knows hospitality! Great place to hang out with friends and family in a welcoming setting. My friends and I went on kind of a chilly day and we were worried about their being no indoor seating. We had nothing to worry about because they provided each guest with a complimentary blanket to keep. We reserved a space on the balcony for my friends birthday (reservation is only required for the patio). We were able to bring in our own food and they provided us with plates and utensils. There was live music that played songs by request of all genres. We all did the house tasting which was only $10 and you get to sample 4 different wines. We used that as a base for which bottles we wanted to get. The wine was phenomenal (and paired really well with Irish cheddar cheese). I've been to Delaplane Cellars twice so far and have had great experiences both times! Their parking at the front of the building is limited but they do offer overflow parking. I highly recommend making a reservation as they schedule them during specific time blocks. My friend is a wine club member so my first time visiting was during a tasting weekend in January where we not only got to sample four different wines, but we also got a tasty little snack to go with it! It was chilly outside so we sat at a table with a fire pit and we tried their spiced wine. It was sooo good! The second time was on a nicer but cloudy day. We again got to taste four different wines, then we chose a guest wine to drink. All of the wines we tried were delicious. The staff is very attentive and friendly. Highly recommend! read more

I wanted to end Black history month by visiting and supporting the only black owned winery that I an aware of in Northern Virginia ! I made reservations a week prior and no rain would could stopped us to visit . Upon arriving we were taken away by the beautiful view even it was a rainy and cloudy day. We were welcome by Jeremy that took us to our table under the tent. There is no indoor seating so make reservations for weekends. I loved that it's was +21 only so I didn't have to see crazy kids running ... sorry not sorry, lol! Masks required and cleaning protocol were top notch . The tasting was about $10 for 4 flights, 2 whites and reds. I really enjoyed the Petit manseng so a few of the ladies as well.. Not safe-- Server demanded I took my mask off, indoors, surrounded by people, during a pandemic to check my ID (and no one else's?). Been to several wineries in the area and this spot had by farw the snobbiest (and misinformed?) staff. Great views! Horrible service. Good wine.. just take it to go. Went in with a dog, and the server requested that we keep dogs to the picnic table and not in the tasting room. Great, no problem! I went out to sit with the dog and the other folks I was with got the wine. My sister grabbed my ID to show the server. When the other 3 people in my group came out with the wine they said the server needed me to go in with the ID. Ok, fine, I went in to show my ID and the server, Lisa, got into a strange power struggle with me wanting me to take my mask down, inside, surrounded by people, during a pandemic. I was totally fine with their social distancing and mask-wearing safety precautions as stated on their website, which included a mask mandate. Therefore, as per CDC recommendations, and Delaplane recommendations on their website, I'm not trying to take my mask off in doors, especially surround by 10-20 people. As a 29 year old woman, I get that checking IDs is essential, you want to make sure you're not serving underage people, but Lisa just kept asking me to take my mask down. She also did not ask anyone else to take their mask down. I refused, saying that I was not comfortable taking my mask off indoors during a pandemic. Lisa repeated the request saying that I needed to take my mask off in order to be served. I replied that her request was bizarre and unsafe and I would not take my mask down, I offered her a second form of ID and she declined saying that I needed to take my mask off "just real quick". I said no for a third time, and I suggested said if we went out doors and stood 6 feet apart I would take my mask off, (still believing this request bizarre but wanting to be safe). For a fourth time Lisa told me to take my mask off. I did not, and Lisa rolled her eyes and gave me the glass to go and drink my wine. What was the point of any of this??? Just weird and unnecessary. Covid is a very complicated time for restaurants / bars / wineries that serve people, and I am grateful for everyone working during a pandemic. But this rude and bizarre exchange definitely marked Delaplane off our list for any future visits. read more

Not explanation about the winery and the new owners, tasting guide with scale provides no reference points. Once as only an adult establishments now lets screaming kids. Your tastings are accompanied by the sounds of cries. Failure to tell customers when they stop serving food and not sparkling wines during this visit.
