Ordered the paneer tikki masala and samosas which is my go to order and I've had 50+ times. Was very excited to find a local Indian spot that seemed popular. The samosas were amazing, but the paneer tikki masala was an off beige yellow color and uncomfortably thick/goopy. Not sure what happened, but it also does not taste at all like any tikki masala I've had before. It tasted exactly like Maggi ramen if anyone is familiar. What was super weird was the chicken tikki masala in the case up front looked completely different from the paneer tikki masala I got. Like completely different recipes. Terrible. The vegetable curry is watery and clearly from a frozen bag of veggies. Ordered and paid for 3 samosas and received 2. Portions are very small for price point. Odd random salad with combination meals that doesn't even have dressing. $49 later for 2 combination meals and what should have been 3 samosas. Felt cheated. If you are looking for a hole in wall with great authentic Indian food, Delhi Kitchen is the place. It's run by a really nice family. The husband and mother-in-law usually run the front. The uncle is the main cook. I love their chicken curry and they usually make it fresh for me since I like it extra spicy. Their homemade nans are worth the trip (especially the garlic nans). Checked out Delhi Kitchen in Carmel Mountain. Ordered a ton of food from this San Diego North County hole in the wall joint. The food is family run and right next to Trader Joe's. Flavors are solid, yet unremarkable. I liked all the dishes except for the keema naan; the lamb was too gamey for me. Everything good enough for Monday night. I would come back. I've been ordering take-away food from this place multiple times in the last couple of years. I really feel the the taste & quantity they serve for the cost is really good; bang for the buck. One special mention is that they offer different main curry sizes (12oz, 16oz, 24oz etc) at reasonable incremental cost. It offers the flexibility that you can order the bigger sizes or stick to the smallest size based on the number of people you want to feed, thereby reducing cost and also packaging containers. They have food fresh and ready to serve at a good price - $8.99 for 2 item $9.99 for 3 item... plus rice, Naan and choice of raita or salad. Between us we tried tandoori chicken, veggie korma and chicken tikka masala. My husband chose salad as side and I think I clearly made the better choice of the raita. Was it the best Indian food I've ever had - no, but it was tasty and a great value. Bonus - the owner was very friendly. He offered a sample without me asking and have suggestions. As for atmosphere, it is in a strip shopping center and there are only a few tables in and out. You are not going here for the atmosphere, but was very clean. Omg. This place is a diamond in the.....ultrabland suburban shopping center? Sandwiched in between nail salons, insurance offices, and a Trader Joe's, this place serves tasty, not overly oily, comforting, and freshly made Indian food at AMAZING prices. I came here on a whim for weekend lunch buffet - $7.99 for ayce self serve curries, salad, and tandoori chicken. Also unlimited rice and super hot naan! You can see them making it right behind the cashier in that cool oven where they stick it to the side to cook (I'm sorry, I'm not super well versed in Indian cooking). The styrofoam trays given for the buffet are very thin and flimsy, and the self service bar is small and cramped, so be careful when you get your food! Everything I tried was tasty and the spicy entrees packed a good bit of heat! I think the entrees rotate regularly, so I can't tell you what'll be there in the future. While I was there I saw them regularly refilling the buffet table with freshly cooked entrees. They also give you to-go boxes to take home your leftovers! My only complaint is that people abused this hardcore and would wait like hawks for fresh tandoori chicken to come out, and then would take the whole tray and put it in a to-go box?? Maybe they need a limit on how many chickens you can take, or maybe people just need to be less greedy... The service was very friendly. There's no bathroom. Parking is plentiful because it's in the middle of a shopping center. Be aware that it's super cramped and you may not get seating inside. It can get a bit wild with people flocked in for the buffet. There's no bathroom as well. Overall a really solid place! I saw tons of people coming in an out with to-go orders, and would recommend doing the same (except for buffet) because it's rather crowded inside. An unexpected surprise of an eatery. I had been dreaming of a mango lassi and happened to be nearby and decided to give them a try. I ordered a mango lassi and a garlic naan bread. The mango lassi was creamy and so fresh -- and honestly, the best I have had so far, and the garlic naan was definitely made fresh and was delightfully soft and cloud-like. It was smaller than I thought it would be, but so delicious! Its been a long time since I have gotten Indian food. The last time had been a long while ago in NY. Came by after working out with Mr. W. We both ordered a plate, I ordered 2 meats and he ordered a meat and a vegetable dish. I believe I got the chicken tikki masala and the aloo tikki masala which came with salad and rice. Mr. W ordered the chicken tikki masala and the vegetable korma which he also got salad for. Plus we got free toasted naan which came out fresh. Both added in total was around $13-15 give or take. Chicken tikki masala was so tasty! Creamy and delightful to eat in combination with the rice. The naan made it all the better dipped in the sauce. Vegetable korma was actually pretty good as well, and I am usually not a veggie person. Aloo tikki masala was pretty spicy but bearable spicy. Very tasty as well! Every time I go to the Carmel Mountain Costco, I stop by the nearby Trader Joe's as well. During one such shopping trip is when I stumbled upon Delhi Kitchen, one of the best kept secrets for Indian food in the area. This past Easter Sunday, Costco was closed and both my refrigerator and my belly were empty so I decided to drop in to drown my woes in curry. Originally seeking to order the 3-item meat plate, I was elated to see their buffet offered at the same price and opted for that instead. I tried a number of different items but my favorites were definitely the chicken tikka masala, the saag paneer, and the naan. The naan was especially impressive and I would actually return just for that. While it may not be the cleanest or largest restaurant in the world, I would highly recommend checking this place out for their weekend buffet special. While I've heard great things about Punjabi Tandoor, given the choice I would definitely prefer to come to Delhi Kitchen instead. But at least the chicken was not rotten. The oil they used in their Chicken Makhani was rotten. It was oil they had used to fry how many other dishes and made the Chicken Makhani inedible. Okay, I give 4.5 stars, but I rounded up because their food is just so freaking good. AMBIANCE: This is a hole-in-the-wall family owned Indian restaurant. Out of the times I've been here, I've seen kids come in and beeline for the back, and then have the same kid take my payment for my takeout. I say takeout, because I usually get my food to-go since seating is pretty tight. FOOD: Two words: Naan Oven. They have a legit one, and it sure does make a difference! It's always the same people working, and their food is consistent. And DELICIOUS. I love their chicken tikka marsala, their samosas, their spinach paneer, their tandoori chicken... pretty much everything. I think I've had it all, and I've never been disappointed.
