Service was good when there were only 2 tables of customers at 5:30PM on a Saturday evening. The restaurant filled up quickly after 6PM. The server brought over drinks and food but never came back to fill up water. They were under staff after 6PM with every table filled in the restaurant. We had to go up to the counter and ask for to-go boxes and the check. The curry was OK not as spicy as we preferred. Next time need to order spicy level of 4 or 5.

Tried Himalayan Grill in Mira Mesa and enjoyed the experience. I ordered the Chicken Vindaloo and Chicken Tikka Masala from the lunch menu, and both dishes had very tender chicken, great flavor and generous portions. The vindaloo had the perfect level of spiciness without being overwhelming. The tikka masala was rich, creamy, but not too heavy. The lunch also came with naan and a nice rice pudding. Service was very friendly and the food came out fast. The smells in the restaurant were amazing. The lunch prices were reasonable and the restaurant has a warm, inviting feel, and everything tasted fresh. Overall, a very solid spot for Indian cuisine in Mira Mesa. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu.

A nice touch having a large screen showing the beautiful sights of Nepal in video form.

It was raining cats & dogs and so we ducked into this restaurant for shelter. What we experienced was a whole new world of Nepal. Beautiful video images were being displayed, aromatic smells coming from the kitchen and a small family-run business with a definite "family feeling" vibe. We had just eaten, so we ordered the Daal soup and their Masala Chai and immediately felt warm and far away from the cold, rainy day outside. We felt there was no rush, and it seemed like the entire family was in on making everyone of their customers feel at ease. Now that we know what is on the menu and the delightful staff, next time we will come and stay for a meal, regardless of the weather!

Himalayan Grill is nestled in an unassuming strip mall within Scripps Ranch, but their food is 10/10 and they deserve more recognition! The Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Vindaloo, and Biryani were all top tier and of course we ordered a side of garlic naan as well. We also tried the Shrimp Tandoori which was a new item for me and it was incredible! The shrimp were cooked perfectly and had a great char on them and the pepper and onions that came with it were great too. The service was a little bit slow, but I came in on a busy Friday night so it was totally understandable. Despite the crowd we were able to be seated right away in a booth. They also included a complimentary soup with the meal which I wasn't expecting. Fantastic food and I can't wait for my next visit.

If you are looking for tasty Indian and Nepalese food check out Himalayan Grill at the eastern end of Mira Mesa Blvd near Trader Joe's. The food is consistently tasty, made with really fresh ingredients and you can ask for a spice level ranging from 1 - 5. I would suggest starting with a 1 or 2 because even medium level 3 can be spicy. I tried the Chicken Khadaii which was a chicken dish with tomatoes, onions and bell peppers in a tasty gravy that doesn't taste like the ubiquitous chicken tikka masala or butter chicken. This dish tastes like it comes from a home kitchen. The portion is very generous and I've got food for at least one more meal. The butter naan is the perfect accompaniment. You can choose plain boiled rice instead. The owner is very helpful and pleasant and the staff work really hard. The restaurant can accommodate large parties and they will allow you to have individual checks if you ask in advance.

Just wow !! Husband randomly started craving Momo's and I remembered that this place was supposed to have good Momos. So 25 minutes later and we had picked up our Chicken Momo to go order. Really really massive serving size here. There were 10 Momos and each of them was so so large. Very good amount of chicken filling (the ratio of filling to wrapper was perfect) and the best part is that chicken was actually flavorful! The Momos were so good. I didn't even use any sauce! Definitely need to go again to try some more stuff.

My favorite Indian food in San Diego. Love them so much they catered my wedding! The food is rich, spicy (as per request) and the perfect combination of comforting home cooked Indian food and rich restaurant style dishes. Everything I've tried here over the years is great - any dish with paneer is a personal favorite. In terms of portions, they aren't what it used to be (likely due to inflation). The restaurant vibe is comfortable and casual. Another plus is that it's located within a shopping complex making parking easy to find. Highly recommend!

Himalayan Grill is truly one of the best restaurants in SD. I have been dining here frequently and have always had an amazing meal. The last time I was here for dinner, we ordered Vegetable Pakora, Vegetable Samosa, Paneer Tikka Masala , Paneer Tikka Tandoori and Vegetable Chow Mein. Every single dish was so good! Can't beat the quality, price and service!

Himalayan Grill is one of my favorite Indian restaurants in San Diego and I'm embarrassed it has taken me this long to review it. I've been coming here for years and after trying many of their dishes, I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal here. I like coming here for lunch on a weekday with friends if time allows to take advantage of their $15 lunch special combo. They offer a variety of dishes for this, my favorites being the chicken tikka masala and the chana masala. I especially like the kheer rice pudding that is included with each lunch special order. There are also numerous vegetarian options for both the lunch special and on the regular menu. The regular menu is extensive but there are plenty of options I would recommend. The biryani is particularly good and is always served as a massive portion. This makes it practical for either sharing or reheating some later as leftovers. I like many of their chicken curries as well, with my favorite being the butter chicken. If you order an entree, a cup of lentil daal soup is included which is very good. They also have mulligatawny soup which my friend orders every time he comes here. Of course, no dining experience at Himalayan Grill could be complete without naan bread. Their garlic cilantro naan bread in particular may be the best naan I have had in a restaurant. It's a must order :) I'm very happy this restaurant has been around for so long and I always enjoy coming here with friends or family.

Lunch Special Menu - March 2025

What an amazing lunch special deal with very generous portion size! And the lunch special is offered DAILY. It is $14.95 for 2 items (see photo), rice, naan, chickpea salad, and dessert. I am definitely returning again in the future for lunch special, but the food is good enough to eat as regular entrees at other hours. -Lamb Samosa: Very generous portion of ground lamb but WAY too salty for me. I had to douse in the sauces (One was a sweet sauce, and the other was an herbaceous green sauce). In the future, I will try the vegetarian samosa. -Chicken Tikka masala: The sauce was creamy and flavorful with generous chunks of chicken. Definitely recommend. -Chicken vindaloo: Mix of flavorful chicken thigh (I think. The meat was way more tender than I would expect for breast) and potato in a spicy sauce. I generally don't like spicy food, but this was just the right amount of heat to warm my innards on a cold day. I did have to blow my nose several times though. Definitely would recommend for both spicy food eaters and non-eaters. There was a generous heaping of basmati rice. I actually took most of one platter's rice home. The naan was warm and fresh (I really want to try their cheese naan one day though). I didn't eat the included rice pudding dessert; it tasted to sweet to me & I don't particularly enjoy the flavor of cardamon. Service was quick. Ambience was quiet. The restaurant feels well-ventilated, maybe even chilly so I wore my jacket. Good thing I also had the chicken vindaloo to warm me up. Parking was okay for weekend lunch. It is a pretty busy lot, and many people don't seem to understand what the lines mean. But there were plenty of 60min spots available. I liked the bathroom situation. There is a hand washing station outside the single occupancy bathroom. The bathroom has automated flushing toilet & there is a trash can where you can throw away the paper towels after you touch the door knob to exit.

Came here for lunch and it was well worth it. Really clean restaurant with great service. The prices were very reasonable and the food is delicious. I got the chicken fried rice with medium spice and it was perfect. The flavor was tasty and the spice was spot on.

Last night my Wife wanted to check out this place because she was craving Indian food. We usually just pick up food at Punjabi Tandoor but this time she wanted to dine-in. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and were seated shortly after. There were already a few couples having dinner as well. They bring us waters then take our order. My Wife orders chicken tikka masala and veggie korma. I order saag paneer, veggie samosas, and cheesy garlic naan. We've always ordered garlic naan but this might be the first time seeing cheesy garlic naan on the menu. They start us off with a cup of soup which had a very smooth mild taste. The veggie samosas came out first and were really fresh. My wife had to split hers open to cool down the inside. She's notorious for burning her mouth biting into hot food lol. The rest of the food came out and it was time to feast! That cheesy garlic naan was amazing! Think of your favorite garlic naan somehow filled with cheese almost like a quesadilla. Veggie Korma had good flavor but the Saag Paneer was very impressive. As Saag Paneer is one of my go-to orders, I am usually disappointed when most places barely have any saag or cut them into tiny cubes. This place was very generous with their tofu-sized cubes. Next up was the very flavorful chicken tikka masala over their cups of basmati rice (they give you a choice of rice or naan with each dish). Lastly, we also had to try their Mango Lassi which was not too sweet and just a really nice touch of smooth yogurt. The next time my wife craves Indian food I would not mind coming back to this spot. I have a feeling we will be back soon.

For instance, the Schezwan noodles contained excessive food coloring, making them appear unnaturally bright--almost like carrots--which affected the overall appeal of the dish. However, the more significant concern is the waiting service. The staff seemed undertrained, particularly in their knowledge of the menu and their ability to communicate effectively with customers. Given that this is an Indian restaurant serving a largely non-Indian customer base, it is essential for the staff to be more proactive--explaining dishes, making recommendations, and guiding diners through the experience. Basic service fundamentals also appeared to be missing. For example, there was no clear understanding of the proper sequence of serving food--appetizers, followed by the main course, and then dessert. The overall lack of attentiveness and initiative made the dining experience less enjoyable. This becomes even more noticeable considering that a nearby restaurant delivers excellent service despite being a pure vegetarian establishment. With more Indian restaurants opening up in the same area, Anjappar needs to significantly improve both its service standards and food presentation to remain competitive. Coming to the ambiance, this isn't a fancy restaurant, but it does bring back the feel of a generic local restaurant back home. While that can be nostalgic for some, the setup feels quite basic and could benefit from some improvement to enhance the overall dining experience.
