I've grown up coming here and never really had any problems with the long wait because the sandwiches were soooo good. But this most recent experience has got me thinking, maybe better to go elsewhere. I have lived on kauai for about 15 years and this is the first time trying this place out. Smelled really nice and the sandwich choices looked really good. Literally waited for about an hour for only 2 sandwiches with hardly anyone else in the shop at the time. The cashier told me "they are working on it" when I asked how much longer the wait will be (mind you, it had already been about a 35 minute wait at this point). Terrible customer service and I can't wrap my head around how it takes this long to make 2 mediocre tasting sandwiches. Will not be returning and would never recommend to anyone else. Two words: Lobsta' Roll! If you like loster, butter and cheese, you will love their Lobsta' Roll. It's warm with a good amount of lobster chunks and some mushrooms on a buttered roll with ooey gooey cheese that stretched out with almost every bite I took. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I can't tell you about the other sandwiches because I didn't have nor do I desire anything else they serve after having the Lobsta' Roll. This little restaurant is located in the Kukui Grove Center, in the corner right next to Macy's. They have a good amount of tables and the customer service was good. I wouldn't call it fast food because I didn't have to wait a while for my food but it was worth the wait. They have a nice variety of sandwiches on their menu and also sell donuts from Daylight Donuts. On our trips to Kauai, we always seem to stop at the Kukui Grove Center and dine at the popular Deli and Bread Connection restaurant. The sandwiches and soup here are pretty good, but not necessarily worth the madness and long wait. This past visit last month we ordered two sandwiches then sat down for approximately a half an hour watching everyone who ordered both before (understandable) and AFTER (not acceptable) all receive their meals. There was actually a point where there was a slight lull in the restaurant, so my husband decided to walk over and question if we had missed our order being called out. The cashier mumbled something to one of the workers then said that they were making my BLT sandwich fresh because they ran out of bacon and had to run to the store for more. Okay... I don't know why they didn't tell us this while we were placing our order or once they found out because I would have easily changed my order to another sandwich rather than having to wait over thirty-five to forty minutes for it. Our sandwiches were pretty tasty, but my husband said his seemed cold because it was probably made earlier waiting for the guy to come back from the store with the bacon. I'm not sure that this restaurant is worth all the hype (or the wait). read more

They have a variety of warm and cold deli sandwiches, soup in a cup or bread bowl, sides to round out your meal, and fresh bread to take home. This is probably my favorite sandwich spot to eat on Kauai! Voted Best of Kauai since 2003, they do not disappoint! It's conveniently located 7 minutes from the airport in Kukui Grove Shopping Plaza. The bread is freshly made! You can even order loaves of bread to take home, and they will box it up for you so it's airplane ready. The popular sandwich is their lobster roll! We ordered it with the Boston style clam chowder (they have special soups of the day, but the clam chowder is available everyday). Definitely a spot you want to check out! read more

One of the benefits about traveling for work is the opportunity to try different places to eat. While on Kaua'i, we stumbled upon Deli & Bread Connection. Since we had to take our lunch to go, this was the perfect choice. I tried the Lobsta' Roll and I definitely did not regret cheating on my diet for that sandwich! It was packed with lobster, chunks of mushrooms, and cheese, all squeezed between 2 buttery, toasty rolls. If you're expecting a lobster roll like the type you'd get in San Francisco or Seattle, this probably wouldn't be for you BUT I think this beats those! Not only were all the sandwiches tasty, but also HUGE. I ate half and saved the other half for later! I was definitely savoring the flavor! The employees were really nice, but for a warning yoh may have to wait a while for your food. My husband said his sandwich was okay but he didn't like the french roll, because it was flavorless and too soft. My chef salad was delicious, including very flavorful deli meats, but they only had Italian dressing available the day we were there, so I'd like to try the papaya seed next time. The salad was gigantic, enough for 2 meals. They had a nice selection of refrigerated drinks. The wait was REALLY long, and several people who came in after us received their food before we did. It made us a bit unhappy, because we didn't relish sitting inside waiting that long during the pandemic. There was outdoor seating nearby (not specific to Deli & Bread Connection, but just part of the Kukui Grover shopping center), with umbrellas to protect us from the elements. Despite the so-so things about our first experience, my husband really wants to try the Lobsta' Roll sandwich (maybe with a different choice of bread), and we're both curious about the Tunacado, so we'll definitely be back. Heard about this place from somebody because we were on the hunt for New England clam chowder. Unfortunately the day I went I wasn't feeling very well and up to clam chowder so I ended up getting the garden vegetable soup in the bread bowl which was really good and helped soothe my stomach. I was born and raised on Kauai, moved off island for 23yrs only returning for summer vacations. I've been going to Deli & Bread Connection ever since they opened, never had a problem up and until now. Who in the world would take 1hr to make 3 sandwiches, and be proud to say the wait time is 45min...??!! It's even not that great nothing to write home about! I've actually had better sandwiches at iHop, Denny's, etc..If the wait is that long, maybe it would be just common courtesy to inform your customers, the patrons, of the wait time before letting them order. The problem is there were multiple people coming after I ordered that were getting their orders. Their excuse was that it was call-in orders, liars, I spoke to some of the people that ordered after us and their order wasn't called in, so another disappointment! Obviously transparency is not this business' finer attributes...and the biggest disappointment was that my friend, that I was treating for lunch, knows the brother of the owner of the establishment, who was working at the time. Hey Kevin, I've checked the reviews on Yelp, you should take notice. Of the complaints because the complaints are legitimate! When you have 2 guys, 2 gals, you, the manager, and possibly more at the back, there shouldn't be a problem making a damn sandwich! I don't even consider your sandwiches "gourmet" sandwiches. Every other trip to Kaua'i I get this crazy idea to drive to Waimea Canyon. When I do, I always stop here to grab a picnic lunch. There's nothing better than Waimea Canyon and a sandwich on the most delicious fluffy "cloud bread." Last time I bought a loaf of Hawaiian Sweet Bread and made the best French toast. This time I got the TOPS sandwich, it was delicious and of course the bread is the highlight. The only reason why I'm taking off a star is because of the very small portion of turkey. [Service] I highly recommend placing your order ahead of time. The last couple times I came, I ended up waiting 15-30mins for my order. [Interior/Ambience] It's a small establishment with couple tables and chairs inside. If there's no room inside, there's also tables outside. Because of how busy it gets, the line can go out the door and depending on where you sit, people waiting in line can watch you while you eat. To me, it's a little awkward having someone looking down on me while i'm eating. [Food] I always come here and order the bread bowl w/clam chowder. As simple as it is, it's so good. Everytime I fly to Kauai, all everyone ever asks me is if I'll be going to Deli & Bread! So finally, I was able to stop by and have lunch there, and you know what, I now know why EVERYONE asks me that. The food is amazing and the portions sizes are decent. I had the lobster roll and the clam chowder, and it was PERFECTION. It was soo good, that I couldn't stop eating it, even after I was full. Though there are a lot of seats, this place is ALWAYS crowded. The only down fall to this place, which isn't their fault, is the wait. You do wait for a while to get your food, but with the amount of people ordering and how many people are sitting inside and outside of the restaurant, you can't blame them. Came here for the lobster roll and clam chowder for lunch it was soo ono we went back in the evening to pick up poi rolls before heading back to the airport since the poi rolls comes out fresh round 5pm. We visited the D&BC on the day before we left Kauai, consequently after talking to a person staying at the same resort we were staying. He mentioned that everytime he comes to Kauai on a business trip he gets his lobster fix via the Lobsta' Roll here. We were sold once we heard Lobster Roll on the cheap. Sure enough this roll comes oven baked, and consists of Lobster Salad with mushrooms and cheese on a fresh roll. Remembee this is lobster salad and although it tastes good it could have used a little more lobsta. I'm not hating on this place though - for $10.95 it tasted better than many other things we could buy elsewhere. Make sure you ask for tabasco and plenty of it - they give it to you in a measured cup. We also got a cup of the clam chowder and it was tasty. Dont let the location fool you its right next to Macy's in the mall and they have so many signs that say it has won awards for the Best Sandwich on the Island. read more

The best service and the sourdough! Wow I don't even care much for sourdough but eat this bread fresh without any butter and it's like candy. It's delicious and light. This is probably my favorite lunch/dinner place when I visit Kauai. I'm a huge sandwich and soup lover, so this place definitely has my heart. I love that it's located in the Kukui Grove Center (on the Macy's side) so you don't need to worry about parking. They also make their own bread without preservatives. Their breads are thick and very soft slices, which takes their sandwiches up a notch. Since I live on Oahu and usually end up making my stop to Deli & Bread Connection on Sundays, I'm only able to try their chicken noodle soup. Sundays they offer two options: chicken noodle and clam chowder. Unfortunately I'm allergic to clams so I haven't been able to try that one, but I love their chicken noodle! The bf has had their clam chowder and really enjoys it. So far I've been able to try their turkey breast sandwich, chicken salad sandwich, and tuna melt. There's never a visit where I haven't enjoyed my meal. On our most recent trip, the bf has tried their lobster roll and has said it's really tasty. It's a really popular place so I would anticipate a line to order and a wait for your food, whether you're dining in or taking out. But if you're like me and love a good soup and sandwich, waiting is no big deal. What I love the most about ordering sandwiches from them is all of the sandwich options they provide; different breads, cheeses, mustard, mayo, and veggies. You can really get your perfect sandwich here, pair it up with one of their delicious soups and be in foodie heaven.
