I asked the super sweet girl taking orders what was the most popular and she said "you can't go wrong with their lobster roll, my hun." I wasn't even that hungry but once I unwrapped this and saw the cheese pull I knew I was going to be in love with this. This lobster roll was seriously the best lobster roll I ever had and at $11 it broke da mouth but not da wallet. Came with the whole family. This place is very nostalgic. My sister used to work here when she was in high school. We ordered a couple of TOPSS toasted (Turkey Olive Pepper Swiss on Sour Dough) sandwiches, a large clam chowder & a lobster roll. They were all decent items. We came at lunch hour so we were told we had to wait 35 minutes for our food To Go. We were willing to wait but it did end up being more like a 45 minute wait. I always look in my orders to make sure everything is correct and when I politely asked the front girl handing off orders for a couple of spoons for the chowder, she stared at me and didn't say anything (she looked like she wanted to say something more) as she got the spoons but I don't know what the stare was all about... I don't know if it was cuz she was judging me or because she thought I was someone else but it made me feel uncomfortable. Anyway, we brought food to the food court to eat cuz the rest of our family members got food from other places. We shared our items among each other as we normally do as a family. It was disappointment to us to learn that the lobster roll is now made with imitation crab (pollock). I didn't even look at the price of the roll, perhaps that would have reflected that they don't actually use lobster meat. My sister told us they used to actually use lobster meat and that the items were not consistent to what they were in the back of the day. We remembered that the TOPSS used to be a thicker stack also. They were very decent sandwiches none the less. The bread is definitely the best part. I would still come back here again and recommend, maybe just not the lobster roll. Lobstah roll: before Iordered it, I asked the young cashier if this sandwich was made with 100% real lobster. She said yes. It's not. I got the sandwich to admit with my daughter who cannot eat surimi (fake krab) because of specific food allergies. I opened the sandwich and looked... sure enough, it's not 100% lobster. It's made with half surimi and half lobster. Surimi is what they make California rolls with. Because the service wasn't good, and my daughter couldn't eat the surimi, we walked over to the food court. The bread was good. The seasoning was good. But it's one thing to have food that's decent, but another when an employee misrepresents the ingredients used. Fix the attitude of the cashiers and train them on the actual ingredients used please! I discovered this place awhile back on Kauai. It's definitely a hidden gem and everything tastes very fresh. I have never had a bad meal here. Their soup of the day was chicken noodle soup. It was probably one of the best soups I've ever had. This soup is probably my favorite from them. They are known for their clam chowder. My turkey sandwich tasted freshly made. I had the rollyn Rueben and it was OK. My son had the meatball sandwich, better than my sandwich but not out of this world. My main complaint was the service. Came here for lunch this afternoon with some co-workers and absolutely loved it. Tucked into a shopping center what a great hidden gem...for lunch had the Club Sandwich. First the homemade sourdough bread really makes this sandwich special plus the freshness of all the meats and ingredients are amazing. Located in the Kukui Grove Mall, this eatery is delicious and consistent. Everything I've gotten hear, probably have eaten hear around 10 times, I've enjoyed. Some of my favorites are the french dip, lobsta roll, bread bowl, I ask for the soup on the side, their soups are yummy. I tried the corned beef sandwich and turkey ala king soup yesterday. It was a huge sandwich but I finished it all cause it was so good. Like sandwiches, go there, you won't be disappointed. The sandwich was pretty good as the bread was soft. My can juice has flour on top of it. Had to wipe it off. The potato salad was ok. Went to this sandwich place before we flew out on Saturday, Nov. 18 and have to say this was probably my worst experience of any restaurant I've ever had on Kauai in our almost 20 trips to the island. There were two people in front of us when we placed our order then more people came in after us. The first person got their order pretty quickly while we continued to wait. Then everybody behind us started getting their orders, and no these were no phone in orders. The person who got their order was done when I asked if they had called my number, they said no. More people came in, some phone in but most ordered at the counter. Five minutes later I asked again, the woman behind the counter said I was number 22 and there were three people in front of me. Not sure how that happened as there was only two when we walked in the restaurant. My wife went in 10 minutes later and she was told that we should have been told it was a 45 minute wait!!! How is that possible for two sandwiches? After five more minutes she got our sandwiches. I wish I took a picture of it, if her pastrami sandwich had 1 ounce of meat on it that would've been a miracle. It was supposed to have pickles and tomatoes and it had to small pickles and no tomatoes. This sandwich was a joke and obviously thrown together to shut us up and get us out of the restaurant. I worked in our family restaurant in the Bay Area for almost 30 years as a side job so I know the restaurant industry fairly well and this place was horrible. We get it, you don't like tourists but do you have to be so blatant in your discrimination? This was two days after having a wonderful meal and great service in Hanalei at Tahiti Nui's. I don't know how you got all those newspaper awards, your food and service were absolutely horrible and I will tell everyone and anyone who even thinks of dining here, especially if you're from the mainland. Everything about this place was an embarrassment. I should have asked for my money back and left without the sandwiches. If I could have left ZERO STARS I would have. I have lived on kauai for about 15 years and this is the first time trying this place out. Smelled really nice and the sandwich choices looked really good. Literally waited for about an hour for only 2 sandwiches with hardly anyone else in the shop at the time. The cashier told me "they are working on it" when I asked how much longer the wait will be (mind you, it had already been about a 35 minute wait at this point).
