Oh my goodness!! The service is beyond wonderful. I went in on Saturday morning, and wanted a last minute cake for my friend's birthday. They had the raspberry chocolate available which I took. The cake, itself was delicious- not too sweet which I loved. I also got a sugar cookie and the butter croissant! Both delicious. The store is adorable and it feels very welcoming from the moment you step in. They have a lot of varieties of cookies and mini pastries. I can't wait to be back for more delicious treats! read more

Delightful Pastries is a wonderful Polish sweet shop that really showcases the care of a small business. The owner sources jellies from Wisconsin, and their house-made bread is absolutely delicious. The customer service is fantastic--the employees are patient, kind, and very knowledgeable, taking the time to explain all the sweets and treats. The only downside is the macarons, which unfortunately don't seem to rotate as quickly as other items. When I tried them, they were stale and tasted past their freshness. Everything else, however, has been delightful, making this a great spot for pastries, bread, and Polish specialties. read more

The person that waited on me touched my food with her bare hands instead of using a pastry tissue or gloves. When I pointed it out she was a miffed that I mentioned it. She did get me two new pastries and put the other ones back so now someone else will get the pastries that were pawed all over. I got a loaf of sourdough multi grain and it wasn't remotely sour. The paczki looked better than they tasted--I'd never go back here--in this day and age no one touches the food with their bare hands--tells me that they most likely don't have safe serve practices. Many of the less-favorable reviews of Delightful Pastries complain that there is not much filling in the paczki. That's because they are AUTHENTIC. Real Polish paczki have just a spoonful of filling; the treat is the wonderful light dough, which Delightful Pastries does perfectly. I have been a customer for years, and everything is always fresh, not overly sweet, and made from the very best ingredients. The price reflects the high quality. Went here becaue of all the great reviews. There are no prices on anything. I asked for a couple of prices and the older women behing the counter seemed annoyed. A younger male took over and gave me prices and all were very, very high compared to other bakeries. I settled on just trying a piece of pecan bar and it was almost 7 dollars. This place has what they call "marzipan stollen" which is the best stollen I have ever had. Warmed with butter, it is Christmas breakfast "Nirvana". There are far too many great offerings in both sweet and savory form to describe. I will say a friend from Poland told me their beet soup was great, exactly like they have in Poland. I visited this bakery a couple of times in the past and it was not memorable at all. I decided to give this neighborhood bakery another shot. I went on Valentine's day it was not crowed, only myself and another customer were in line. I ordered 5 paczki's. All different flavors and every single one of them the dough was flavorless and a drop of filling. Depending on what filling you chose some were 5.29 each. Definitely not worth the price. There was no customer service, the person working behind the counter didn't greet me, she just said how many? When she packed up my order, I said thank you to her and she already moved on to the next customer even before I grabbed my box. Never again! read more

I'd say they lived up to their name. ===== Visited their stall in the Federal Plaza farmer's market this week and got a blueberry tart slice ($6). Really love their commitment to using natural and local ingredients, and everything they had on display looked amazing! Heck, if all the ingredients were organic, too, I'd probably not bat an eye at paying $6 for a normal-sized slice of tart (and honestly compared to other pie places/bakeries in Chicago that seems normal). Also they accept credit/debit cards! I'd bump them up to 4.5 just for that. The blueberry tart was not overly sweet, which I hugely appreciated. It was beautiful and full of succulent, fresh berries, and the pastry was buttery and crumbly. It did take a slight beating while in its paper bag prison, so please know that it looked more beautiful when I first bought it. Would definitely love to go back and try the other pastries - they had a good variety of sweet and savory goods, and apparently the paczki are famous. Outstanding little bakery. Stopped there during work in the AM and enjoyed it so much that me and my co-worker stopped there almost for 2 weeks straight. I tried almost everything and the sell a few additional items like eggs, jams, soups, elderberry syrup, it's definitely a must see. I had their donuts, Pączkies, croissants, and few other items. My co-worker loved their key lime pie and death by chocolate. Also took some home for the family wife really enjoyed their kolaczkies and death by chocolate, while kids loved the donuts and chocolate croissants. Oh, baby, this place is good! I had a sewing machine pickup not too far away, so I stopped in to get a cookie fix. That day, they also had one of the biggest cinnamon cake donuts I've ever seen, so I got that, too. The cookies held out through the weekend (they ARE fabulous - don't miss the pecan sandies and the similar pistachio cookies), but the donut was gone before I got home. I was excited looking at bakery's displays plus I bought a birthday cake from this bakery because when I checked online for the reviews and they have a pretty good reviews but guys, this cake is not really a cake !!! The taste and the texture was terrible!! I won't buy from this location again ! ... actually, I bought several pastries but my main purpose was buying a birthday cake for my daughter's birthday ... I thought it's worth paying a $36+tax ( the small cake) but I was totally disappointed and felt bad and ashamed when we started slicing the cake and sharing it to our visitors... it was embarrassing when you see your visitors left the piece untouched..., they just picked a small piece and never ate them. Honestly, looking at it you won't have the appetite of eating them ... the looks outside was good but what's important is the taste , the texture. This was the most terrible cake I ever had for birthday... jewel-osco or Walmart or sams club or costco cakes are better and cheaper. I was somewhat underwhelmed with the pastries here. The Kolaczki pastries were okay, but the peppermint flavored meringue cookies for the holidays tasted like breath mints. The regular meringues were below average, and the sugar cookies with sprinkles were rather dry. The pastries here were okay, but nothing special. I made a special trip out here just based on the delicious looking eclair pictures, but was disappointed. Their eclairs are made with buttercream frosting, not custard, in the middle - which makes for an impressive display but overly sweet and gummy texture. We got a couple paczkis, which were just 'good'. They gave us the wrong flavor (rose instead of raspberry), but still nothing special. If I'm spending the calories to eat a decadent paczki, I hope for something amazing! I also got an iced sugar cookie which was disappointing. The cookie part was really tender and delicious, but the decoration was done in royal icing which was so hard that it was tough to bite through, and was hard and crunchy. PACZKIS! I live around the corner and have walked by this place dozens of times. I've always spied the cookies in the displays and wondered how delicious they really were... Then I woke up on Fat Tuesday and remembered... it's PACZKI DAY! I got my 3 year old dressed while my dude and littlest dude were asleep and we walked on over. It wasn't too crazy at 7am which was awesome and we were able to score a strawberry, a strawberry cream, a custard, an apricot, a raspberry and a Jameson chocolate... and I blue teddy bear cookie for my little guy, per his request. The paczki were amazing. Fresh and delicious. I think my favorites were the apricot and the custard. Once the weather picks up (someday...), I suspect we'll walk over regularly to sample more of their deliciousness. read more

The pastries at this bakery were underwhelming. Most of them lacked much flavoring and tasted plain. I was especially disappointed by the donuts as they almost tasted more savory than sweet and seemed to lack much sugar at all. That might make them healthier, but it certainly didn't make them pleasant to eat. I also tried some type of upside down apple pie that didn't taste like apple pie at all, and again had a savory flavor to it that just didn't go sit well with me. Their lemon bar didn't taste very lemony and had a strange texture to it. The best item was the fruit turnover, which was flaky with fresh tasting fruit inside. I did go here towards the end of the day so maybe the selection wasn't their best items or their baked goods had been sitting outside for too long, but overall not my favorite. read more

I'm so grateful to live so close to this place. My mother-in-law is polish, she used to make Pierogies for me. Since she got sick, she stopped cooking and baking. I went to this place to get some polish food and desserts for her. The owner was super friendly and really nice. When he found out my mother-in-law was sick, he gave me extra bakery item for free. I've shopped here a few times now. Customer service from a woman (presumably owner) who answered phone was really good. In store customer service was a little awkward (not by same person who had answered phone). Would like for prices to be shown on items. I didn't see prices listed unless I overlooked them. I don't like having to ask pricing of multiple items. Maybe typical clientele of this location aren't worried about pricing and are okay paying set price unknowingly but I definitely would prefer knowing pricing before deciding. The brownie we purchased looked good but wasn't quite what we prefer. Perhaps we have a less refined palette. We also purchased a four pack of cupcakes. That was one item I didn't ask for pricing of and they ended up being over $3 each for a very small cupcake, so over $12 for the pack. I understand quality of ingredients have different cost but I didn't really feel there was a distinct enough taste difference for me to support the pricing. I definitely wish I had known pricing before. Also the online site shows some of the items with pricing I do believe, I had tried to check prior, but not all the items. Would be nice to have pricing list and photos for items available there prior to arriving. At the end of our order, we did receive a few tiny bonus croissants which was unexpected and kind. The store did seem quite busy with holiday orders so it does appear to be a local favorite by others. Very cute and clean aesthetic inside. The full cake varieties were not available in single slices, but they did look quite lovely and flavor combinations looked appealing. read more
