I've been to a variety of bakeries but Sugar Moon is on my top three list. From the cookies to the focaccia, everything was fresh and absolutely delicious. The only thing I hate is that I'm not from Chicago and I can't come here regularly. This is a must visit spot.
Holy freakin best bakery in the nation! Sugar Moon is a local fave in Logan Square--and for all the reasons possible. They make scrumptious cookies, pastries, danishes, chai cinnamon rolls, the whole shebang. Our eyes were nonstop drooling over all of the fresh goodies. I had such a hard time choosing, but knew I had to get the corn flake espresso cookie (SO FRICKIN AMAZING) the textures were elite, and the potato focaccia. The southwest hash brioche was friggin incredible. They were very generous with the sweet potato, WHOLE EGG, and veg. Like seriously, with the cost of groceries skyrocketing, I can't believe I got a whole bit of egg white and yolk. You must eat your goodies warm, the initial crunch had me in a chokehold. They also had a vegan focaccia which my friends appreciated. There's street parking and expect lines. Inside isn't super spacious, but the line does move. Bring sunnies and a book if you don't like to stand around. We got here before they opened on a Saturday morning and only had to wait like 15mins. They also sell cute lil Sugar Moon merch like fun tshirts and cards. Would 100% come back to get morning pastries from them. Super queer friendly as well. MUST visit.
Sugar Moon is only open weekends, and they had a line out the door when I went. The line moved fast and the staff were super helpful and friendly despite the crowd. I really enjoyed the chai roll and cloud cookie, but the southwest brioche was what stood out to me. It was packed with flavor and really well-made! They didn't have as many savory items out when I came (no focaccia that day and only 1 savory brioche and 1 savory galette) or I would have loved to try more - I feel like that's what shone for me! Definitely would return for more delicious baked goods, and surprisingly despites the tiny amount of seating I was able to eat in the store because most everyone gets their order to go. This spot is clearly welll-loved for a reason!
The best bakery in Chicago hands down. I feel like a lot of people don't know about this place but it is so busy even with the group that does! Definitely deserves all the hype it gets. This is the place I miss most from when I lived in Chicago. The staff is super friendly and the pastries and so unique. Their pastries rotate a lot but if you like banana you must get the banana pudding croissant it's incredible! Definitely get there early- even before open there is a line (worth it!) and they are only open until they sell out.
Glorious. One-of-a-kind. Amazing. Definitely some of the best pastries I've had in Chicago recently. If you haven't made it over to Sugar Moon yet, it's well worth a trek out of the way! We visited around noon on a Sunday, and after reading the reviews here, I wasn't optimistic there would be many pastries left. Maybe I should play the lottery, because luckily there was no line and a pretty good selection of pastries left. The staff were super friendly and there were so many unique flavors of baked goods. We decided to split several and opted for the blueberry cloud cookie, chai cinnamon roll, banana pudding croissant, espresso cornflake cookie, and potato focaccia. The shop was more of a small take-out operation, so we took the pastries to a nearby park to eat. Everything was absolutely divine! The group favorite was the focaccia- the creamy potatoes and cheese brought a rich flavor that was perfectly balanced by the fluffy bread. The chai roll was perfectly soft and delicately spiced, completed with that soft cream cheese frosting and gooey center we all like to see. My personal favorite was the banana pudding croissant- the dough was so crispy that I'm pretty sure others could hear the bite, and there was a generous amount of filling with fresh bananas and visible vanilla beans in the whipped cream. The espresso cookie was super soft- while I couldn't taste the espresso very clearly, I absolutely *loved* the caramel-coated cornflakes topped with sea salt. Super unique and would definitely order again. Despite their decadent appearances, none of the pastries were too sweet. Already plotting a return visit and can't recommend this shop enough!
What a fun treat -- As an avid sweet treat tasted this place was so fun! Walked in on a Thursday morning and they had most items in stock and the goodies were so yummy. I appreciate they had a large savory section. My favorite was the bacon brioche and savory scone. I loved it all-- I went back and got one of each cookie to take home to Denver. Will be enjoyed for a solo Valentine's Day! Super small bakery -- 4 bar stools and minimal standing room. So i can imagine it gets incredibly busy on the weekends The ladies helping were so sweet -- loved it all!!
This is a top tier Chicago bakery!!! We got lucky getting in with no line (we did go pretty early to opening on a negative wind chill day though), but I would come back here and wait through the line any day for their treats and kind staff I would definitely the Jalapeño Popper and the Potato Focaccia again, but probably would pass on the Tiramisu Cloud Cookie and the Tahini Chocolate Chip Cookie. The inside is small but quaint, definitely more of a takeout spot but there are a few bar like seats near the windows!
This place is amazing. I got a lot of things and they were all good. Their savory items are must have. I tried the brioches and they were all so fresh with a little crisp on the outside. The braised pork one was my favorite. They also had a large selection of gourmet cookies, I loved the espresso chocolate one. Service was great, staff were very nice and friendly. They greeted me and helped me pick out my items. They also take Apple Pay. The store is pretty small on the inside but very cutely decorated. They had water available. Not a huge area to sit though. Definitely recommend.

I got there 15 min after opening and got inside 30 minutes later. Everything was amazing and the price is very reasonable for the quality and flavor. I got veggie focaccia, chocolate chip tahini cookie, sweet scone, veggie gallete, and the chai spice roll. My favorite was the spice roll! Service is extremely quick friendly. One of the best, if not the best bakeries I've tried in the city! Pro tip, go on Friday to avoid the long lines. There is minimal seating so expect to take most pastries to go.
Based on the reviews, we arrived around 8:30 to get in line. We ended up being first, but it was a snowy morning--by 9:00 the line was already long. The bakery itself looked and smelled amazing. It's primarily a pickup spot, with only about four seats inside. The staff was very friendly, and we tried a handful of items: the tiramisu cookie, chai bun, pizza focaccia, poblano brioche, and the London fog basque cheesecake. Everything was good, but nothing really stood out as spectacular or worth a 30-minute wait. The tiramisu cookie was definitely the highlight. I'd consider going back, but probably only once the hype dies down and the line isn't as long.
Was hoping that this spot was not all hype and I can confirm, it is indeed NOT just hype! Delicious pastries that tasted so fresh and are made with high quality ingredients. We tried an assortment but the faves included the chai spice roll, the strawberry pretzel croissant, the pistachio cake with chocolate frosting, and the poblano brioche. I have a big sweet tooth but the savory pastry really wowed me! The space is small but there is a great selection from which to choose. The staff were very friendly and we will definitely be back to try more soon!
Sugar Moon feels like a little hidden gem in the neighborhood. Even though there's a wait, it feels very communal especially with a coffee shop around the corner. I arrived about 30min before opening on a Sat and I'd estimate it took about 15-20 minutes before getting inside. The line moves at a reasonable pace. One of the reasons to be here early is to ensure all the goodies you want were available, I had a friend go in around 11 and many were sold out. I had a variety of items both sweet and savory, ate them many hours later as I brought it to a friend's dinner and the treats were still absolutely delicious. My favorite were the espresso cornflake cookie. Don't sleep on the French onion foccacio! Considering I didn't eat at peak, these are one of the best baked goods I've had in a very long time!! I'd say it's worth getting up for. Still thinking about going again.
This place is deserving of its praise, especially for the price point. The selection is vast - there is surely something for everyone. The tiramisu cloud cookie & banana pudding croissant were the standouts. The cookie is truly like eating a tiramisu cloud. Absolutely divine. The croissant was perfectly baked, crispy, and flaky like a proper croissant should be. There are real pieces of banana & the brûléed layer underneath the whipped cream is scrumptious. I also got the espresso cornflake crunch cookie, tahini chocolate chip cookie, a seasonal (fall) croissant, chai roll, and a miso mushroom brioche. The cookies were phenomenal, especially out of the air fryer. They have a nice crunch on the outside and a soft, slightly chewy inside. However, I am rating 4 stars because I thought the chai roll was overhyped. There's not enough icing & the texture could be better. It tasted better warmed up but still didn't wow me. The miso mushroom brioche was too salty for my tastebuds. While a great bakery, I have had better pastries in Chi town.

Might there be a long line? Yes. Is it worth the wait? YES! The hardest thing here is narrowing down what to get so you don't order the whole bakery. I bought a few sweets thinking I could enjoy them over the next few days... which is a great idea if you have willpower. I apparently don't and they were gone sadly so quickly. The team is just as amazing as their baked goods! The gal taking my order asked me if I wanted an edge or middle piece for the Blondie I ordered... that type of consideration is pretty rare, especially when there's a line of people down the block waiting to be served. The shops itself is small and I think they have some coffee and merch in addition to their baked goods? Maybe if I wasn't so excited to dive into my treats I would have paid more attention. I WILL BE BACK!!! read more
You've heard it all before. What can I say except everything you've heard about Sugar Moon is true! This is easily now my favorite bakery in the city. Shout out to everyone that works there because they are super nice and helpful. Let's get the logistics out the way: yes if you show up when they open at 9, there will be a line, but it moves quickly! I'm usually out with my order by 9:25! I have a huge sweet tooth and let me tell you the savory pastries are my favorite. I will not visit without getting at least one miso mushroom pastry. I absolutely hate eggs and the jalapeño popper pastry is so good, I barely noticed the egg in it until I'd eaten half of it This place is the TRUTH. Every pastry is flaky, every bun is fluffy and the flavor combinations are so unique. Let me stop typing so I can go stand in line! read more
um absolutely yes this is what they mean when they say support small businesses!! I stumbled across this bakery on my way to the suburbs and it's sooooooo good! I see why they're known for their banana pudding croissant. There were so many things I wanted to try, the people working were so nice and despite being small inside, it gave a very intimate cafe feeling. Will 100% be back to try more things. Come early to get first dibs on everything before it sells out. read more

Their French onion focaccia is hands down one of the best breads I've ever eaten. It tastes exactly like French onion soup and the bread is so light and fluffy. Everything I tried was so well made and flavorful but I'd go back just for their bread. We lined up at 8:30 and the line wasn't bad, by the time they opened at 9, the line moved really quick. The store itself is pretty small but they are super efficient and helpful. Worth the visit! read more

The cookies here were out of this world. The espresso cornflake cookie and the smores cookie are to die for. The banana cream croissant was an interesting concept and great flavor but it lost some of that classic croissant flakiness. I could skip the blondie and the almond olive oil cake next time. But will 1000% be back for those cookies!!!!!! read more

Sugar Moon is only open Friday - Sunday and the line was 30+ people deep before they opened at 9. The wait was so worth it. I think the chai cinnamon roll was my favorite but the bacon brioche was a close second. Everything looked so good and what we got was so filling, delicious, and decadent. read more

Oh my god so good! We finally made it to this absolutely wonderful place (been scared away by the long line in the mornings lol). It carries a good variety of savory and sweet pastries, so everyone can at least find sth interesting. My husband was not a big pastry fan, but did enjoy the pizza focaccia and squash & miso garlic butter focaccia! I took a bite of each - fluffy but still a bit chewy, flavorful but not too oily, love love love! We also got the chocolate chunk cookie (yummmm), banana pudding croissant, hot dog bun (forgot the exact name), and a couple danishes. Could not be happier! read more

This spot deserves all the hype it gets!!! I love a good bakery and this one shot up pretty quickly on my top rated list. There were so many different vegetarian options and even vegan options!! As a vegetarian, it's usually tough at bakeries to get any good savory options but we were struggling to choose between all the options. We ultimately landed on the seasonal savory pastry, pinwheel, and the jalapeño popper scone along with some sweet treats like the banana pudding tart and lemon cloud cookie. I will say there's a pretty long line but especially if you're going once, it's worth the wait! read more

Yeah this place is the bomb. Couldn't speak higher of how delicious every item is. The line was at the end of the block at 9 when it opened and took us about 45 minutes and they still had plenty of stock. It was a great way to start the morning and set the vibe of the day off right. read more

The line was ridiculous at 9am, wish they were open more. The service is just alright, they're really busy, so it makes sense. The pastries certainly lived up the hype. The flavors are so unique and delicious. The presentation is SO gorgeous! I still rave about going back one day. read more

I love that there are so many savory options available at Sugar Moon! And so many different pastries in general to choose from! For savory options we got the potato & leek focaccia, giardiniera focaccia, miso portabella brioche, kielbasa galette. The miso portabella brioche was my favorite! It had caramelized onions with the mushrooms and was just so rich in flavor, and the brioche was so nice and fluffy. My second favorite was the potato and leek focaccia. It was both crispy and fluffy, and had good flavor. For a sweet one, we got the Thai tea cloud, and it was AMAZING. Definitely recommend this for a sweet treat!! The center creme had a strong Thai tea flavor and was airy and sweet. It was sandwiched by a fluffy cloud-like pastry! So so good!! They are only open Fridays through Sundays so there tends to be long lines. We came on a Friday about 9:30am and there was already a significant line! We waited for about 30 minutes. Definitely worth the wait! Inside there are just a handful of counter seating that faces the front windows. It's very small and limited for seating. Pro tip: Take your pastries home, and if you have an air fryer or toaster oven, pop the savory pastries in and have them freshly toasted! Definitely made the pastries even better than they already are. read more
I came here Friday around 930am and there was a small line out the door with like 6 ppl ahead of us. I told my partner let's come here to try their pastries because I really like the variety of sweet and savory they have after looking at google/yelp reviews/pictures. This place did not disappoint at all! I loved everything I tried so far and would definitely come back! I had the potato focaccia first and omg, you literally can taste everything they describe. The focaccia literally melted in my mouth every bite I took. I knew I had to try the denver omelette brioche even though I was full so I cut myself a quarter of it but ended up eating the whole entire thing. I find it hard to just "try" a bite because you will end up just eating the whole thing yourself! They do not skimp on the ingredients at this place! You literally get what you pay for and their prices are super reasonable! I pad like $40 for 7 pastries and thought it was the best deal ever! I had a bite of the chai cinnamon roll and you can taste literally taste the chai. The chai wasn't too strong, but instead just perfect! I still have to try the passion cloud cookie and tahini cookie later after I digest a bit more. Overall, this place is amazing and I will be back to try more things! I can't wait to tell my friends how good the pastries are at this small shop! read more

Our friends spoke so highly of Sugar Moon, so we braved the weather and waited in line for some pastries to go! The bakery is quite small, so they limit the number of folks inside at one time. While the line was long on a Saturday morning, it went by pretty quickly. For being a tiny spot, they pack in so many treats! I love the number of both sweet and savory options, as well as their informative labeling of each treat. We snagged a variety of offerings between the 4 of us, which was perfect to try multiple pastries. Everything was so delicious and clearly made with high quality ingredients. Our favorite items were the bacon date scone and the espresso cornflake cookie - both had such unique flavor pairings that simply worked. One of my favorite bakeries in Chicago! Their pasties are so unique with creative flavors. Usually, I prefer sweet pastries, but hands down the savory ones here are the star of the show. The focaccias, the scones, the galettes - all amazing but if I had to pick a favorite, I would go with the galettes. The best gift you could give someone is presenting them with a box of cookies from Sugar Moon. As many know, the tahini chocolate chip cookies are an absolute must when ordering, but I prefer the cornflake espresso cookie. Try to come early, because the usual wait time is between 15-20 minutes and they're only open Friday-Sunday. read more
The wait was insane! Comparable to kasama but I think it moved a bit faster since it's only take out. We waited for 1hour and 15 mins on a Saturday morning but definitely worth it. My fav was the GIARD focaccia- very fluffy and flavorful! I also got the black sesame cheesecake , tiramisu cloud cookie, corn beef croissant, bacon bagel, and cinnamon roll. Their pastry are freshly made and constantly refilling so you will never get ones that's been sitting there for a couple of hours. The service is fast and friendly. Came here on Sunday at 10:45, there was a 30 minute wait. Staff was very friendly but I do think they could have a much more efficient system to not have a line! Cute place, really small, 10 people can fit inside! I got the passion fruit cloud cookie, orange cheesecake, s'mores cookie and banana croissant. All were so wonderful, the banana croissant is my favorite! It bursts with banana pudding. Sooo worth the wait! read more
We were lucky enough to enjoy some pastries at our place. We tried the tahini chocolate chip cookie, the giardiniera focaccia, apple croissant pastry, and a savory everything bagel pastry. Everything was super tasty and we loved how unique all the flavor profiles were. My personal favorite was the apple pastry and it is 10x better than any baked apple treat I've had. I saw all the great five-star reviews of this particular bakery shop so I thought I would finally give this place a try! Have to admit, I was a bit intimidated by the small hours over the weekend, changing and slightly elusive menu, long reported lines, and high sell-out risk. However, we got to the shop around an hour after they opened, and although we did wait in a line for around 25-30 minutes, there were plenty of options left and it was really hard to choose just one from what we could see! They feature both sweet and savory and have plenty of vegan options. The interior is small (but well decorated and cute) with window seating, but other than that, it is expected you clear out if those seats are available so those in line can enter. As other reviews have mentioned, it doesn't really matter what you order because it is all made in small batches and high quality. I was surprised that a lot of it isn't warm (we were there on a really cold and snowy day, so they probably taste better when they're warmed up), so FYI on that. We got: Cranberry scone - dense but slightly sweet, strong cranberry flavor with icing, everything you would expect! Jalapeno cheddar - clearly had a salty cheddary/savory flavor, would have loved to taste more of the jalapeno throughout the scone or for it to feature a bit more spice but was still lovely! Tomato foccacia - was my favorite, so yummy, plenty of herbs and bread was slightly chewy and very fresh! Chai spice roll - soft and delivered on chai and spice flavors with plenty of icing I think it's so cool that they're constantly working on different recipes and changing their menu as well, so you have more opportunities to come back and try more of their creations! All the pastries are large and look beautiful, the presentation is fantastic and would also make a great gift for anyone :) I'll definitely come back! read more
