First time visiting Bronx's Little Italy, since I'm usually visiting the tourist infested version in Manhattan. While smaller and more local, this area has become my new favorite are to grab my local Italian grocery items and indulge in Italian delicacies like DeLillo's. On a hot summer afternoon after a full day of city exploring we desperately needed coffees to wake us up, and maybe a few sweet treats. First, the staff at DeLillo's are FANTASTIC. seriously, everyone was so nice, helpful and warm and sweet. We ordered coffees and pastries. The coffee was fantastic, so much so that I had to buy beans to bring home. They have a ton of options for beans, but I ended up buying the Columbian blend, which is what they sell in store. Great ambiance with small town character in of course the big city. I got a custard eclair (possibly a mistake on my part as this is not what they are known for) & was a bit disappointed. The puff pastry was dry & not the light pillowy dream I was hoping for. My expectation was pretty high reading all of the good reviews. It was a little disappointing that cannoli were already filled and a little dry and old. Lobster tail was soggy outside even tho cream inside was fluffy and nice. Cup tiramisu was alright but still kind of old and dry on the top. They literally have every kind of pastry available. We were in the area and wanted to find a place for coffee and a pick me Upper. Saw this place had good reviews and headed here. When I walked in it was quite busy but I was quickly helped. Decided to choose 4 kinda of cookies and got 5 each. Didn't think about the price and there were no prices near the cookie counter at all ( the prices are listed on the perpendicular wall under all of the coffee beverages). Got a total of 20 cookies, and my grand total was $39.50!! For cookies that are 1/4 the size of my hand. I asked the store clerk who was helping me if that was the right price cuz I just couldn't believe it! We live in Manhattan and or regular place is Venieros in the east village. I said to the store clerk that the prices are not posted anywhere clearly, and that for that price I could have gotten an entire cake! We have yet to taste these exceptionally priced cookies but I'm not holding my breathe. Will probably not return. We can think of plenty of other places and baked goods( sweet items) we can get for a much more reasonable price. Taste test review coming soon. read more

Love Delillo's cannolis. Every year since 2003 I drive up to the Bronx to get a mix of their delicacies to serve at my annual, over-the-top tailgate party before a big Ravens game. Discovered them while my daughter was at Fordham, and just kept going back. Took my nephews to Little Italy on a a visit and my regular Pastry Shop was closed (Egidio's) so I gave these folks a try. They are really too-notch. I've had their baba rum as well as their brutti ma buoni meringues, specifically the almond/hazelnut version. The latter, if you have never had, are meringue cookies but not just any meringue cookie. The meringues are stuffed with nuts. Okay, I walked into this shop of yumminess and saw my waistline disappear. The smell alone put pounds on me. As the young lady greets us my eyes scanned the glass cases full of every kind of desserts you could imagine. My girlfriend who is Italian started ordering desserts for us to try. Don't go here!! I have been working in this area for 22 years and yesterday I went up to Arthur to go shopping. My husband and friend went in to get an expresso, my husband asked for some Pignoli cookies and the idiot behind counter tells him they are $50 a lb!! When he told me I told him I never go in there for anything and he just should go to Marrones where they are $25 lb. Hate not giving a local amazingly kind bakery a three star review. Honestly i just think their baked goods are a bit hit or miss. The canolis are very crunchy but lack flavor. As part of our group's Arthur Avenue outing on 9/19/15 we had dessert at the DeLillo Pastry Shop whose sidewalk cafe seating is a special treat, whether you want to relax or people watch, particularly on a nice weather day. We sat outside and particularly enjoyed the Rainbow Cookies, Cannolis, Chocolate Cake and Chocolate Italian Ices. The real stunner was the Iced Cappucino......unbelievable......will never have the hot cappo if I can gwet an icede one of this quality. Alas, the prior comments and complaints about the service are spot on. Our group had the same poor experience with that. The food is exceptional but we deduct a star for service. In any event, I would not journey to Arthur Avenue again without making a stop at DeLillo Pastry Shop. read more

There was a sign they posted noting that Fri/Sat/Sun, they don't want folks studying (and I presume bringing in some work). But during the week, the vibes seemed pretty chill and manageable. The pastries look better than they taste. The service was great. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. However, I personally feel that this place is overpriced. I did not order much and my bill was more than I anticipated. I wouldn't mind the prices if what I ordered was delicious but it wasn't. It was mediocre. For example, my iced latte tasted like the machine coffee you get at a 711 (maybe it was the syrup they added that made it taste so artificial). Horrible service. 7 of us walked in for dessert and coffee and was told we couldn't sit at the only large table. Told us we had to wait to put tables together in a little bit. Everyone sitting at the little tables were either done and just hanging out or not close to be done. We had two small children and my 80 year old mother. What was so wrong to clean another table. I didn't even need wait staff. To the bald guy who was a complete ahole- you lost a lifetime of business. Always went in for dessert and coffee and some to take home. No more! I'm giving this 4 stars but I have a feeling that after a few more visits this place could either go up or down a star...not sure yet. My argument for 5 stars would be based on the rainbow cookies. We got the raspberry ones (wasn't even aware of apricot ones when asked to choose, and will probably try them next time) and they were perfect. Super moist and rich with that perfect trademark taste of rainbow cookies that I still can't put my finger on. These are the best I've ever had, granted I've only been aware of their existence for about 2 years now. The argument for 3 stars falls with the eclair and cannoli we tried. Both were kind of blah. DeLillos is definitively my favorite bakery in the Belmont area. I've had too many of their options to count, but the pignoli, cannoli, chocolate covered strawberries, and rum baba are my personnel favorites. The cappuccino and hot chocolate are a great way to wash it all down. The atmosphere is pleasant, and you can even sit outside on a nice Summer night. I knocked a star off due to the service. The wait staff is nice, but their relaxed approach can be annoying at times. It's nice to just sit back and enjoy with friends, but after they bring you're deserts, they rarely come back to check on you. Paying the bill can thus be frustrating and take way longer than it needs to. read more

Coffee is served in a paper cup but on a real plate. I just don't get it. Coffee was also weak and flavorless. I like strong coffee though. Ok, let's talk pastries... Berry cheesecake and chocolate custard eclair are delicious! It's not too sweet. Wish I picked up some more. Cannoli was alright. The shell tasted like a cracker without much flavor and filling is sweet. I don't like super sweet desserts so I'm sure most will like. Chocolate strawberry cake looks pretty, so picked one up for friend's birthday. However, it tasted average. If you need a cake for $25, get it. Overall, glad we stopped in. Nice place to chill out. Okay, this review is solely based on their lattès. Disclaimer: I'm no coffee expert or anything of the sort either. I like my coffee or lattè moderately sweet and strong, usually for a big study session or just to do extensive work. Delillo does a pretty good job at achieving this, although sometimes their baristas do add a lot of sweeteners (it tends to be sweeter than Dunkin Donuts iced lattès). It's around $6 for a large lattè. Kinda pricy. They have a wide variety of sweets and snacks as well as gelato (never tried any of them). One major downside in my opinion is that you need a $10 credit card limit. If you're a card person and rarely have any cash on you then you might wanna stop by an ATM before coming here. read more
