Food is good but since a few years ago (maybe COVID) - they only stay open until 5:00. ? What the? 5:00? Never went back to their regular hours. I used to go quite a bit but I work 'til 5:30 and they are closed already. Guess they don't realize the business they are probably losing, when you consider how many businesses close at 5:00 and maybe lots of those people getting out of work want to pick food up on their way home - but nope. Wow! What a hidden gem! I was down in the area and needed to grab something quick and this place popped up... I pulled into the small parking lot got a space right by the front door, and inside was a cute little shop with some indoor tables and an open glass counter display with their premade paninis, as well as an extensive menu on the wall. There were so many great hot and cold fresh options: from signature special sandwiches, to old classics, and prepared foods to choose. I still opted for the prepared bacon chicken and cheese panini, and they heated it up to the right crispy warm temperature. It was the perfect amount of cheese and meat inside, with fresh chicken and gooey mozzarella. And it was only $6! All of the staff were so friendly and awesome, even if the sandwich wasn't delicious (it was), I'd go back to try something else based on service alone! I felt bad I didn't have cash, because I would've loved to have left left a tip and their credit card machine wouldn't allow me to add one :( The friendly staff went above and beyond, particularly when I mentioned it was my first time in the place, and they gifted me a snack to try to celebrate. Amazing! The inside also sells other accompaniments, from pizzelle cookies, chips, Italian themed snacks, multiple drink options, and even little tiny dessert pies! It's pretty unassuming and the space looks like it could have been an old convenience store, but I wasn't there for a Michelin experience...I wanted a quick and delicious sandwich from a clean place that cares about my experience. They TOTALLY delivered! I'm so glad I found this place, and the next time I'm in the area, I will definitely go back to try so many more things. I loved the experience, the service and the food here. It's a nice little Italian deli with a good selection of sandwiches, calzones and pizza as well a some prepared foods that you can get to go or take one of the tables set in the big picture windows. The young man providing service was super friendly, patient and seemed really happy to help. Very professional, but treated me like we've been friends for years. I got two pieces of pizza, which was medium thick, crusty, crispy and delicious. Square slices. Get a corner, you can't go wrong. I also got some ravioli and some meatballs. The ravioli was awesome, covered in a light, tasty tomato sauce (after it was weighed, I was asked if I wanted some extra sauce - nice touch, both for flavor and service - not to do that before weighing it). The meatballs were just OK. Nothing special, not particularly tasty without the sauce to save them. A bit disappointing considering it's an Italian deli, that should be a foundational staple. When I was here a while back they had pizza rounds, small sauce-only pizzas thin and crispy, super good. None there this time, unfortunately. At the register, the big, chewy, well appointed chocolate chunk cookies were a definite impulse buy that could not be denied. Great pizza and ravioli (and sauce) combined with attentive and super service make this a must visit place whenever I'm in the neighborhood. read more

This is a great local deli serving up nice subs, sides like salads and such, calzones, etc. I think they also do party pizzas, but I've never tried them. They serve Boars Head meat, which I think is one of the better ones out there. Also, their made to order sandwiches are really good. They made cold and hot subs, both are good. They are very creative, tasty and very fairly priced. A regular is like $7-8 and a large (which is huge) is like $10 and is great for 2 meals. Check it out, I think you will be pleased. read more

What the heck. I have a lived 10 minutes from this place for years and I don't think I've ever actually been in. Someone in the family was talking about it so Mike and I checked it out. Oh Lord the homemade foods look amazing. The pastas and the salad and the calzones just look like somebody's mother just made them. We tried the calzone and it was delicious. We had a spinach one and we asked them to put cheese and pepperoni in it which they were happy to do and then we warmed it up at home in the oven the next day. It was still fresh delicious and so so good. We got another one and put it in the freezer so we have that to look forward to. But I asked for a salad with lettuce besides iceberg because I can't tolerate that. They were happy to custom make a salad for me and add their chicken salad to it. It was very good and we ate it when we got home so we could sit and relax and enjoy the food. Mike got a sandwich. It was a loaded Italian grinder and it was really loaded. Their bread is so so good and they do not skimp on the fillings in the sandwiches. They also had Italian pastries and bags of wine biscuits and things like that which are so nice to have close to home. I didn't ask but they must do catering and I would love to consider them to cater a party. They have such a variety of food and it all looks fresh and delicious. I bumped into this place because I wanted a Dels's - and it was right there next to it. Seeing the long line of people rapidly entering and leaving with bags and pizzas with happy looks on thier faces , I wanted to go in and see what there was. So I did - and YAY!!!!! A real italian deli. Having just moved back in the area after 20 years in Southern Fl, I was very happy to see the fresh bread, great cold cuts, wonderful salads and prepared food- not to mention the pizza and pizza strips. All at very reasonable prices. Lots of regulars based on the converstaioon and the line moves FAST. I 've tried the Italian sub (small - with 7 or 8 inches of bread) and have no doubt I could not finish the large. It was great! Oil and vinegar salami, cappy, ham and provolone (tho none for me), lettuce, tomaotes - everything it's supposed to have - and it was good. (It's like trying to find a good NY bagel in Miami- it's hard to find but everyone thnks they can do it.) This was the real thing.! I also tried the turkey sub- fresh roll, mayo, lettuce, tomato, BH turkey - sometimes the simple things that are great can make you just as happy. I also love the pizza strips. Lots of tuna and chicken salad orders as well as meatballs, sausage, etc. PLUS the other cooked food. Definitely worth the trip! My new place to go when I want a really good sub and pizza strip. They've got good subs, but their Italian sub is out of this world. All dressed up with vinegar, oil, salt, pepper, pickles and lettuce, you don't even need all the meat on the sandwich to be in love, but you'll take it anyway! They also HAVE bologna, which if you ask me, really sets a deli apart from other delis. I got a bologna sandwich from here with cheese, lettuce and mustard and it was perfect. The large sub is HUGE. I stopped here for the first time today. I just grabbed a slice of cheese pizza. The dough had nice flavor and texture. It wasn't greasy. Plenty of cheese! They have all sorts of calzones, sandwiches, pasta salads, etc. I did notice they don't have much of a dessert selection. I saw some chocolate chip cookies that looked delicious, but that's about it. Well, I travel alot for a living and eat a lot of subs. I travel with many athletic teams. I ordered an Italian Hero... The benchmark for a good sub. Bread was good, nice crust. Had some flavor. My only knock is where's the meat! I got pepperoni, salami but little capicola or ham... cheese was skimpy, why bother, you can't taste it. I have been going since they opened on Pontiac Avenue. Never a disappointment, always good food and friendly service. Good menu and always clean. Sandwiches are very filling. Pizza has never been tired or greasy. The thing that I like best is that they have some outstanding prepared food. A lot of nights I just want to go home and heat up something. Two of my go to meals are their American chop suey and their veal and mushrooms, but I have no complaints about anything on their menu. This is a very good sub place that serves Boars Head deli meats. They offer a large variety of side dishes, ranging from vegetables, pasta salads, roasted potatoes, just to name a few. I've become a regular customer there this year. Pizza, sandwiches, pulled pork, buffalo chicken, etc. Always a good selection for what I'm looking for if I decide to pop in without ordering ahead of time. The pulled pork still has good taste to it 2 to 3 days later, and a medium container will get you 3-4 sandwiches regularly. Since I first ordered a pizza there I've observed that the slice size is similar to that of Uncle Tony's across the street, at a bit less than the cost of their own large pizza. Not that I do this often but cold pizza and pizza for breakfast from here is hardly a bad idea, it may become my new addiction. The service has always seemed friendly and helpful. Once during the winter it seemed they were in cleanup mode the day after a storm, understandably unable to fully restock the deli so I let it slide. My pulled pork habit here had to be delayed for a little while until they reloaded again. I can't speak for the Smithfield location because I've never been, but price and portions are always reasonable. If you're looking for a place with wait service, this isn't it. It's a deli, man. There are a few tables to sit at if that's your thing, but I like to get my food and run. Sometimes I run back to order more. read more

All it take is 1 bad experience and I am DONE with this place. I usually come here and buy 2 Large sandwiches (turkey, tuna, or chk salad) and it's always a little under $20 which is perfect. Well this started off shaky and ended shakier. First, we got there and it seemed to be a new employee who wasn't sure of the ingredients in a pasta so she went to get another employee which is completely understandable. Well, her co-worker came out who was a heavy set guy with a tattoo on his arm and we gave him our sandwich orders which was for 2 Large sandwiches and one with the usual red peppers, but when we got to check out we saw that we were charged the same $20 and received 1 small sandwich and 1 large. We specifically asked for 2 large but OK it happens and they made a mistake. So then I ask why it's still basically $20 for 1 small and 1 large when we usually get 2 Large sandwiches for $20. He then proceeds to tell me that he charged me extra for red peppers which I was NEVER made aware of when ordering since Every other time I've been there I've never been charged for having red peppers on my sandwich. He charged me around $3-4 dollars for flipping red peppers. So basically I feel like I got ripped off from this place and it is now on the list of places to AVOID And the food was OK nothing that blew me away. It's too bad since I like to support small businesses like this but when they train employees like this who don't care about making sure customer is happy and overcharge them then I'll passs and support another small sandwich shop. read more

This pizza use to be perfect this past winter. The first 6-7x I ordered it was absolutely delicious but they have went down hill big time. Whoever is making the dough really needs a lesson on how to properly do their job. My pizza is like a bowl of soup and half the slices don't even have crust. I've worked in pizza parlors for roughly 5 years and this is just laziness or incompetence. If you can't hold up the slice of pizza by the crust without it dropping then it is not being made right. plain and simple. Hopefully I can change this to a 5 star when they start getting their acts together down there. Everytime I go to this place, it is purely out of convenience and the staff is always unfriendly. They had advertised a garden salad promotion in their window and so I thought I would go in and check it out. When I asked for the salad with chicken on it.....get this.....the salad went from 5 dollars to almost 9 dollars! that is a huge difference. When I got home and actually took a better look at the salad....it was old, brown, soggy, lettuce of various kinds and the "grilled chicken" had a funny aftertaste. Needless to say I wasted my money and ended by wasting most of the entire salad. This place is terrible. Stay away bigtime I will never be back. Especially after I was at the checkout and the lady asked me if wanted dressing? Like really? I have been going to this deli for quite a number of years now. Up until recently, I was totally happy with this place. About a month ago, I took some guests there on a Sunday for lunch thinking they would be impressed. Quite the opposite. There were salads in the case and when I went to order one, the clerk said 'I wouldn't eat that if I were you. The salads are frozen.' The clerk then proceeded to laugh with the other clerk that was working. I felt like I was at high school. We ordered different items and there was something wrong with each thing that was ordered. After we sat down, the two clerks also sat at a table and proceeded to swear loudly and laugh very loudly. This is not the usual behavior that I see during the week at this place. All of a sudden, they both jump up and run (literally run) behind the counter. The reason they did this is because the owner was pulling into the parking lot. Another experience just this week with the salad situation - I ordered a tossed salad with a scoop of chicken salad on it. I took it back to work to eat. When I opened up the salad, I found that my $8 salad was half full. Not acceptable, Neil. Please take a look at the quality of the service and food and re-evaluate your hiring choices.
