This was my first time coming to this restaurant and I can't wait to go back. From pulling up to going inside the restaurant I was pleased with the aesthetic and overall vibe. I came here because I heard the catfish and grits was good wanted to find out. When it came out it was hot and the presentation was on point. The catfish was seasoned well and the grits were nice and thick just like I like them. The fries were really good and the hush puppies. The shrimp and grits was really good too. Ordered the catfish with mash potatoes, mac & cheese, with gravy. The catfish was bland had ZERO seasoning for $24.95 and 2 small fillets not worth it. The Mac&cheese was basis no seasoning. The gravy lacked flavor had not turkey,chicken, or pork flavor came as just gelatin in a cup. The mash potatoes came with no pepper, salt, garlic, butter just a hard clump of potatoes. Brought my parents here who were visiting from Kentucky on a Friday afternoon, and everything was excellent! My parents are connoisseurs of fried Southern food, so this was a huge risk! A friend recommended Della Js to me and I'm so glad I tried it. We had the pulled pork sandwich and the chicken strips. The portions were generous- we both took some home for later. The pulled pork was fantastic. The chicken strips were fried to perfection. The Mac and cheese and collard greens were outstanding. The servers were attentive and made sure our water glasses were full. The noise level at the restaurant was low which is hard to find anymore. Della J's just moved from Springfield to Alexandria!!! We are so lucky to have them move closer and to a larger location. The catfish, both dinners and the sandwiches, are so good! A 10 out of 10! I used to love Della J's when they were in Springfield. Not so much now that they have moved to Alexandria. Nothing on the menu says soul food. I stopped in on Thursday (8/15/24) night to listen to the jazz band they have on Thursdays. The band is awesome. I sat at the bar, ALONE. Was told the kitchen and the restaurant close at 9PM. I ordered a cocktail, quickly looked at the menu, to order food to-go. WHY when I got the bill, I was charged "PARTY GRATUITY 20.00%?" Remember I said I was ALONE. My friend and I came here on a Saturday around 1pm. When we arrived, there was a wait and after assessing the restaurant, my friend and I sat at the bar. We were greeted by a server (she was helping out the bartender) after a couple of minutes and we put in our drink order. A young lady came to tell the bartender that customers were complaining about their wait and he fairly aggressively said that they didn't have to wait, there are other restaurants in the area. I don't usually structure my reviews like this, but let me switch gears to the customer service. The main bartender stayed at the bar, but the staff seemed to report into him as if he was the manager. There is no host/hostess, so the servers function as servers, host staff, runners and bartenders throughout their shift. The aggressive bartender was curt with the other staff and was too loud. He should be cognizant of his tone and the fact that customers can hear him. We got good customer service, but unfortunately we got to HEAR all of the bad mouthing being done towards other customers and about the lack of care if customers stayed or kicked rocks. This is the reason they lost two stars. On a bright note, the food was off the chain. I got the chicken and waffles and a side of Mac and cheese. Whose southern grandmother is in the back cooking? My meal was exceptional. My friend got wings with a side of Mac and cheese and sweet potatoes. Her meal wasn't balanced enough for my taste, I told she should get a green, but she wasn't listening, lol! Yet again, grandma put her foot in the meal. We ordered two drinks and let me just say this. I drank. I don't drink, I drank. I gets it in and handle my liquor like a damn pirate. The drinks we had were strong as sh!t. Too strong. That musta been moonshine or something. I couldn't finish it, nor could my friend. The drinks need improvement. Kudos to the heavy hand, but it needs to be drinkable. They are set up for COVID takeout, so you can grab and go! We ordered their fried chicken because DUH! We ordered their pulled pork sammy, and we also got an appetizer of fried Mac and cheese balls, which were really good. Chicken was perfectly fried. It was juicy, and crispy, and not too salty...probably one of the best fried chicken wings I've had. The pulled pork sammy was also delish! Really moist, sweet, and salty...and the side of collard greens. My fave collard greens ever! Don't sleep on their greens. They were not bitter, but really flavorful, and I still dream about them. The greeters complained about the size of the group and didn't want to seat us because of the rush hour but there was hardly any customers there. The waitress was great! Sooo last weekend, I tried to place a carryout/call order. I was informed that I could not because they were short staffed, restaurant was full, and stopped taking carryout orders for an hour. While I understand being short staffed, I have never heard of a restaurant temporarily stopping the ability for customers to place carryout orders. I have heard of restaurants providing a wait time for the orders that are placed on the phone. Also, when looking for their phone number on google, the one provided in the google search did not work. To call, you must click the link and visit their home page. It would be great if their number was updated and listed when google searching them. Especially, when the call option appears and it is not the correct number. Trying to navigate that was a little frustrating. read more

They were seasoned well and nice & crispy. They come with a house sauce which is some type of Dijon based sauce. It's a good for for the for the tomatoes but it'll definitely open your sinuses up. LOL! I had Catfish & Grits for an entree. It's a small portion but the fish was seasoned and fried to a nice golden brown. However, the grits didn't have much flavor. So I requested some of the sauce that goes on the shrimp & grits and that gave them a little more flavor. This gentleman named Jerry worked for American Express for 39 years and always had a passion for food, good food and sharing it with all. He started a few years ago with a booth in the local Farmers Market and the response was so overwhelmingly positive that he finally did open his own brick and mortar location serving the most amazing Southern cuisine and comfort food in 2017. Lucky me, I made a stop for lunch in Virginia on my 1150 mile drive from Port Richey, Fl to NYC on Monday 12/3/18. This lunch turned out to be one of the best meals I have had served by the kindest and warmest folks in a beautiful and loving atmosphere. The first things that hit you when you walk in are the awesome quotes from Muhammad Ali and the row of lovely family photos. I got a warm welcome from the owner Jerry who asked where I would like to sit in this modern and cozy restaurant. Next up was the awesome Cory who brought me the menus. I ordered the Po Boy Shrjmp sandwich plus a premium side of the 4 cheese Mac n cheese for an extra $1.50 instead of the fries. Best call ever!! The huge Sammy came out with these three gargantuan and gorgeous shrimp swimming in this gorgeous Remoulade sauce. Oh My God! I took my first bite and the shrimp was just oozing with flavor. It was a beautiful sandwich. The Mac n cheese was hot and you could taste the cheeses and the richness with the perfect blending with the perfect macaroni. Solid!! The lemonade was Minute Maid and not too sweet. Cory was very alert and kept checking up on me and refilling my glass. I loved, loved, loved the vibe. I felt so comfortable like I was home.
