Happy July 4th! We had brunch at the Mount Vernon Inn and tasted some exotic histrical foods like Hoe Cake and Peanut Soup. The Brie and Crackers with Strawberry Compote was also a tasty appetiser in ramp up to our entrees of Steak Frite and Bourbon Braised Shortrib. In hindsight, I would rather have the Grand Marnier French toast over the Hoe Cake. I was expecting the hoe cake to be grittier and more representative of colonial cooking. It was OK, but I think I could have gotten the same result using fine ground cornmeal and Bisquick. Service was quick and courteous, though some food items came out slower than others. Wife and I both agree the Bourbon Braised Short Rib was better than the Steak Frite which was a bit chewy, though flavorful. Chocolate Peanut Butter Mousse Pie was a good dessert to share as it was so rich. Wish we had room for coffee with that! Afterward we spent an hour just shopping at the gift shops. Parking is free. Be prepared for a short walk from the huge parking lot hidden behind a grove of trees. VIDEO of our lunch! https://youtu.be/bQWYCW6EZJc?si=UnNEgxx1PnOMWcld

Restaurant crew thinks my dad jokes are hilarious - including "what color is George Washington's white horse and who's buried in Grant's Tomb?" This place has a rocking bar cranking out Colonial Bourbons and Spiced Butter Rums at a crazy fast pace on a Wednesday afternoon. We enjoyed our entrees of Potomac River Salmon and local mutton chops - JK / burgers, club sandwiches and Caesar salads were all solid - finished with some really good cherry pies! Great service in an uncrowded restaurant. Thankyou General George Washington for defeating the British and allowing this restaurant to exist.

Normally when I see a restaurant right at the entrance to a major tourist destination, I stay far away. But after looking at reviews we decided to give it a go and I'm really happy we did! I made a reservation on Open Table as we entered Mount Vernon, then m spent several hours walking the grounds and doing the tour of the home. We were hungry hot and tired so it was really nice to just be able to walk in and be seated. Honestly I probably would have eaten anything at that point but the food here was really good! Everything was fresh and very well prepared. Our server was wonderful, very friendly and attentive. The inn itself is really large and the interior is lovely. It was a great spot to cool off and enjoy a nice meal after a long tiring morning.

We were hungry when we arrived at Mount Vernon and de died to eat before going to the estate. We hadn't researched anything so we were unsure about the dining options. The food court was closed for renovations, but the restaurant was open. We weren't expecting the old school charm. It was late in the afternoon on a weekday so there were plenty of available tables. We weren't expecting seated immediately. Since it was nearing closing time at the estate we went straight for the main course. I was craving a burger so I got the bacon jam burger. It had a nice balance of salty and sweet. Unfortunately it was slightly overcooked and dry. It was still good but could have been better had it been juicy. The house chips were good. My wife's beef fricassee was excellent.

We booked our reservation through the OpenTable app. For such a relatively remote location, the food and service were excellent. I did not expect such a large and diversified menu. If a lived in DC, I would fine here often just to try everything on the menu. All of our entrees were delicious, and quite creative. Akoelle was our server and did an extraordinary job; large parties are never being easy, but she got everything just right. The skillet cornbread is a must-have appetizer.

Very cool quaint restaurant. Portion sizes are generous. I highly recommend the beef fricassee. The flourless chocolate cake was also delicious.

Quaint dining experience dating back to the 18th century. Lovely furnishings paying homage to the 1800 styles. You can experience some traditional colonial style foods (example hoe cakes) but in general it is standard menu items. Friendly service. Menu recommendation: flourless chocolate cake. Very good!

Pretty cool old-school American restaurant that serves the standard sandwiches but also some historical dishes like hoecakes and peanut soup. I made a reservation for Friday lunch just to be safe, but there is actually lot of seating for walk-ins. Reservations are still recommended on the weekends as I'd imagine it'll fill up as one of the main restaurants in this complex. I got the peanut soup and hoecake which were pretty solid. The peanut soup is like peanut paste type of thickness but still easy to consume, and there are chestnuts there too. It is a bit hearty despite it being on the smaller side. The hoecakes are like pancakes with a flakier consistency and it was pretty good, especially with the vanilla bean butter and honey. These 2 dishes are on the smaller side but still very hearty. Service is good as they check up on you regularly and they give a large water jug for you to fill. Fairly fast meal.

We had a lovely afternoon exploring Mount Vernon and ending it here was the perfect way to finish it. The restaurant is somewhat casual but the colonial style of the interior makes it feel formal. The chicken wings were absolutely delicious. We would come back just for those. The turkey pot pie was quite rich and my husband said the steak was pretty good. There were a lot of waiters present, however ours was sometimes hard to find. We would recommend this spot to others for sure.

***is this really what GW ate?*** The selling point, by our guide, was that some of the menu items were from the same George Washington era. When we got there, the host told us it'll be a 20 minute wait so she took our number. We waited in the waiting room for 10 minutes as other guests entered and got seated. I walked up to her and asked if she had my reservation? She scrolled down her IPad but lo and behold, she didn't even had us on the waiting list. The fuk up got us seated immediately even though there were empty tables everywhere. We ordered the chicken wings, crab tomato soup, pork chop, cornbread, chicken and waffles and their best seller the fried chicken. Now for the review. The chicken wings looked like they were boiled, then pan fried without any favor. Yes, no breading, salt, pepper or anything. It was dry, tough and tasted like a tofu drumette but with a bone. The crab tomato soup was just that...tomato sprinkled with crab flakes. I give move crab flakes to my aquarium fishes. The cornbread was good but the top was cold, couldn't melt the honey butter. The best seller fried chicken was good and the mash potatoes with string beans was good. Chicken was moist and the breading was very well seasoned. Mash potatoes I loved because it was very buttery. The pork chops initially lasted moist but as it got to the middle, the moisture disappeared. They used the same fried chicken with the waffles. We had the same waffle during our breakfast in our hotel but the syrup tasted like it had beer in it. The Host set a negative tone for our dining. But the waitress made up for it because she checked on us multiple times. Yes, we tipped her good. During our dining experience, there was this 7 year old girl talking like she was smart in her table. She just wouldn't shut the fuk up...you know the smart aleck that everyone knows but probably end up amounting to nothing as an adult on the street. One and done.

Amazing food! When you go to places that gather a lot of tourists I have a mediocre expectation but was blown away by The Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant. I didn't intend to have a five course meal but here I was going all in. Is the legend of the Washington's hospitality being carried on vicariously here?! I started with the Butternut Squash Soup and it was spot on. The spice cream sauce is a nice compliment and overall a nice rich texture. Next was the Roasted Turkey Pot Pie with nice tender white meat and a gravy encompassing a fresh buttermilk biscuit. Lastly I finished with coffee and the Colonial Bread Pudding with fresh made whipped cream and the bread pudding have notes reminiscent of French toast. Let's not forget about the colonial ambiance and attentive staff that really hit this out of the park.

Great service, decoration that looks like the late 1700s, underwhelming food. The peanut soup is cool! I did love eating like a president! The steak was not great, and the steak fries were so mushy.

The hostess ushered us to a special, capacious table in a quiet nook of the restaurant. In that space we had an amazing dining experience. The waitress, Olivia, was kind, attentive, and overall an amazing server. Albeit she was busy, she went out of her way to make ours a special dining experience. The food, was absolutely delicious. Each member of our party of four enjoyed our respective meals. I had a fish sandwich that was absolutely scrumptious. Throughout the meal, Olivia returned to the table many times to make sure that we were attended to, and satisfied with our meals. As I mentioned previously, it was my friend's son's birthday, and we came specifically to this restaurant to celebrate it. We were absolutely astounded when our server brought a scrumptious chocolate layer cake with a birthday candle for the birthday person. She also organized the staff to sign a card with birthday felicitations. Such a kind gesture on her part! In summary, I highly recommend Burton's Grill as it is an amazing restaurant. It checks off all the boxes for atmosphere, delicious food, and an amazing staff ; it offers the customer an excellent dining experience. I can't wait to return to try other entrées in the future. Thank you again for your attentive service and kindness to my friend's son on his 24th birthday.

Not what I expected but it will suit specific people looking for their offerings. Burton's Grill is your typical all American restaurant but focuses on serving all the dietary needs of Americans with allergies or not. The place looks new, the kind of place you wanna wear clean clothes at a minimum and not look slovenly. Outside sitting, full large bar, sports on several TVs above the center of the bar, and a lot of servers milling around here. Great lighting, not loud but not quiet either, just chill. We were starved so our eyes ate. Brunch was still being served till 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays so I grabbed the French Toast and the Steak and Eggs. My friend had allergies with gluten so she went with a salmon and some super salad dish. She was happy as all the dishes had markers for gluten free, food free, soul free, etc. Very helpful for all allergy infused humans. Great waitress btw. Fantastic service. Food came after some time, we requested for everything to come out on time. Steak and egg was okay but I'd go with the prime rib next time. The steak came out sliced with 2 poached eggs on top. The hash on the side was on point. Salmon okay too. Salad was okay but we should have added a protein on top. A little dry on dressing maybe but we could have requested more so that's on us. On the other hand, the French toast had me scratching my head. It was cubed challah bread but eggs was 0, zero, nada eggs on it. I thought I was eating croutons which would have gone great with the super salad dish thinking about it now. The French toast really bunched up my undies, French toast is my favorite breakfast thing you see. They explained it was prepped that way for allergy sake due to the egg. Well, I'm not allergic and never said I was, but my friend was but she wasn't eating my dish so why make it in this fashion. Overall, this experience was just okay. Nice environment and service but I realized how lucky I am not to be allergic cause if I have to eat French toast like this forever, I'm not sure what to do. Definitely not up to eating croutons with syrup.

Curiously, El Paso was playing music on the sidewalk, but the music was of some pop strain and definitely not Mexican. For such a hectic evening, service inside was surprisingly good. This was our third visit here. We swore we wouldn't come back after the last time here when our expensive and tiny tequila shots came in shot glasses where the bottom of the glass was halfway to the top of the glass. But hey, who were we to turn down a free Cinco De Mayo dinner? So back here we were. Somebody at our table mentioned that the El Pasos in the DMV were not all owned by a single person, that the brothers in the family had a falling out so these El Pasos have different owners now. That would explain why the El Paso next to Five Guys up on Richmond Highway has such different menus and service. Our favorite El Paso remains the location in Springfield. I went with the birria tacos. They were fat and tasty and came with a great dipping sauce. They also came with rice and beans on a separate plate. A kind of white queso fundido was ordered for the table to go with the brightly colored tortilla chips. This cheese sauce was more like gravy than a true queso fundido. I was the only customer. It didn't look promising, but I figured I could order something and take it home. I looked up at the electronic monitor to see if there was a menu, but it just was displaying an outdoor scene. Then I noticed a woman sitting in the corner on a stool intently fiddling with her phone. I ordered the cheese egg biscuit sandwich, which came in at $10. Let me tell you, the portion size was generous, definitely enough for two meals. The biscuit was fluffy, buttery, and had just a touch of sweetness, which paired perfectly with the savory cheese eggs. I always ask for cheese eggs when I eat out, and most places miss the mark. Not here. They got it exactly right. Coffee-wise, it was simple: basic drip with International Delight creamer. Nothing fancy, but honestly, it hit the spot and fit the vibe.
