#blueandwhitecarryout an Alexandria staple patronized by the locals and visitors alike. A tiny venue but very welcoming and gave a feeling of belonging! One employee in particular by the name of Charlie was quite popular as longtime customers piled in to say hello or catch up while he prepared an array of food items to include the fried foods. Mimi wanted to try the fried chicken breast (she loves chicken) and initially I was told there was a 15 minute wait, a customer ahead of me stated it's definitely worth the wait as he smiled. So having a free day off, I waited and I am so glad that I did! The chicken breast also has the wing attached and it's placed piping hot between two slices of "cheap white sliced bread". I was asked how I would like it so I responded as many others before me did: salt, pepper and hot sauce? When I say that was the most perfectly seasoned, fried and juiciest chicken breast I have ever had (5/5). They are a food stand opened early and closes early only M-F! I cannot wait to go back and try more delicacies and if you're in the area do yourself a favor and go! #alexandriava #carryout goodfood

Staple spit in the City of Alexandria serving up some unique dishes kind of diner style on the go. Cash only accepted and don't expect fanciness but it has all the delicious dishes you can find simple and for less. Their deep fried chicken is crunchy, juicy, greasy but flavorful. Don't let the cover of this book fool you. Stop by soon!

It's been a while since I've come to this place but they never disappoint on that chicken sandwich! NEVER! I prefer the drumstick and thigh combo but they also sell the wing and breast. I bought the pork chop sandwich for a friend so I will update this post when I get feedback or just go on over and tell them I sent you. They have many other items like half smokes, beans, and other sides be as well. I paid a total of $8.50 for both of these sandwiches so the price is also right. Drive slowly or you'll miss it on the corner.

Fried Chicken Sandwich. OK. Chicken has merit but you can't bite into this since it is NOT boneless.

Blue & White Carry Out [B&WC]. (2 stars). "Devil with a blue dress, blue dress, blue dress. Devil with a blue dress on." - Devil with a Blue Dress On by Mitch Ryder BLUF: Fried Chicken and Pork Chop sandwiches have BONES, are dry and tough, and not worth another return for me. I'm all for supporting small businesses especially in this COVID-19 pandemic!! I am extremely fortunate to have a great job and ability to still enjoy supporting businesses throughout this tough time. But I won't just throw my money away and support a local or small business just for the sake of "supporting local". I love fried chicken and was thrilled to find out that B&WC opens up at 0530 on the weekdays!! I don't care for "breakfast" foods much so I was ready to chow down on some good southern fried chicken at 0530!!! When I entered the shack to view the menu and order, I noticed that the menu was so difficult to read because the windows are FILTHY!!! That was not a good way to start off my day. As I poked my head under the open window to view the menu, the cashier asked me what I wanted to order. I asked him if I could order from their lunch and dinner menu. He said NO, they don't start selling lunch or dinner until 0900. Umm ok they close at 1530... So after looking at the menu again, I decided to order the fried chicken sandwich and the bacon & egg sandwich. Bacon & Egg Sandwich. (3 stars). There's nothing wrong with this sandwich. It comes exactly as the menu states, with 2 pieces of bacon and a fried egg. Nothing spectacular but "A-OK". There is a hint of S&P seasoning but the bread is not toasted which is disappointing. Fried Chicken Sandwich. (1 star). Devil with a blue dress!!! Saddest part is blue is my favorite color. I feel so cheated and lied to!! I found it strange when I was asked, "Do you want a thigh or breast or wing"? Ummm what?? He added, "If you're hungry, get the breast piece". After my initial shock, I requested the breast piece. After all, I was starving!! The cashier told the cook to sprinkle S&P on the chicken which was nice but odd. He literally made it point to tell her to season it well. I walked back home and was ready to dive into my crispy, moist, flavorful fried chicken sandwich when I realized 2 things: 1) The bread was mushy. 2) My fried chicken still had TONS OF BONES in it. All they did was sprinkle S&P on a previously fried piece of bone-in chicken and slap it between 2 slices of bread??!! To say i was pissed off and disappointed would be an understatement. Most people don't expect to REMOVE BONES OUT OF THEIR SANDWICH??!! WTF. SERIOUSLY??? The fried chicken had a relatively crispy skin but definitely had the texture of being fried a few too many times. Very dry and tough to eat. It's not about the price to me, it's about the quality and pride taken in the food being served!! The only saving grace that this fried chicken sandwich has is that it is offered at 0530. I did come back 2 more times and ordered the pork chop (which still had the bone in it) and the hamburger steak sandwiches, but there is just nothing earth shatteringly delicious that makes me want to come back for more. I will say B&WC is extremely reasonable. I'm guessing that is why most people come here... While I really wanted to be a repeat customer, I sadly must decline the enticing and provocative dance of the "Devil With A Blue Dress"... =========== Service here is very friendly (although I don't rate service) but the execution sorely misses the mark.

Christian also assisted my daughter with ordering her first drink from the bar! The food we ordered was amazing! I got the bucket of chicken for myself and my 10 yo, while others at the table tried the shrimp and grits and some amazing side choices like brussel sprouts, mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes. I appreciate the wait staff, the cooks, and the management for making this day special for my girl especially at the last minute :) we will be back for more food and great service!

The restaurant has a nice vibe and décor, but has too may steps for me, not good if you plan on getting lit. Our server was amazing, she was very knowledgeable and professional. Food wise: The cornbread was good, it came out pipping hot, with butter melting. The pork belly was my favorite.... Omg the Pork Belly was the star of the show---it was so sticky and sweet, the eggs and potatoes were pretty good, nothing extortionary. I was a bit skeptical about the eggs being from a carton, since I didn't see any white in the eggs. The chicken was so greasy and slightly soggy on the bottom. I don't think I'd order that again, the waffles were pretty good. I feel like the chicken and waffles are just great for show, in my opinion that dish didn't really deliver what I thought it would. I would return again, the chicken did not discourage me. It could've just been a bad day. I would recommend giving this place a try.

It's natural unforced southern hospitality from A-Z. Also of note If you're able to please ask for the (Chef's Table) and thank me later! Now to the food I started off with the famous fried green tomatoes as an appetizer then I ordered a fresh squeezed pineapple juice that was just delicious after that the amazing shrimp and grits that's so delightful and the creole sauce is blended to perfection. Here's a little food hack for ya, add pieces of your fried green tomatoes into your shrimp and grits I promise you won't regret it!! for dessert you absolutely have to try the strawberry butter pecan cheesecake!! Our reservation was for 730 on a Saturday night and the restaurant was happen but not crowded. We were seated in a beautiful banquet table upstairs and could admire all of the original molding and the skylight. Keep in mind that ordering Still water will incur a charge of $7.50. Apparently I don't eat at nice enough places to realize this lol. You absolutely must order the bacon jam, deviled eggs. I could have just eaten this for my entire meal and been happy. Our server, Maria was very attentive, friendly and made some excellent recommendations. I ordered the dirty chicken my husband got a steak and our friend ordered the shrimp and grits. The dirty chicken was two legs and two thighs. The fry was wonderful, but the gochujang sauce was way too heavy for my taste. The flavor was very good and the blue cheese added some great contrast to the spice, but the sauce was incredibly overpowering, and I would not order this again. Our friend reported that his shrimp and grits was tasty but very spicy. We also ordered a mac & cheese for the table because at $10.50 for a side we thought we would just share it. It was an excellent mac & cheese, but the old bay flavoring was not noticeable. Since I don't love Love old Bay. This suited me just fine! After dinner, they brought us a complementary dessert: taster of bourbon, pecan pies, and hummingbird cake. Everyone enjoyed having a taste.

So I said why not, and stopped here on a weekday (today) around 1:30pm. I ignored the fact that the tables and chairs outside the entrance were in disarray and walked inside. I looked around, noticing first a narrow hallway to my right with one small table and a snack bar. To my left were two more small tables. Loud music of an unrecognizable genre was blasting away. I was the only customer. It didn't look promising, but I figured I could order something and take it home. I looked up at the electronic monitor to see if there was a menu, but it just was displaying an outdoor scene. Then I noticed a woman sitting in the corner on a stool intently fiddling with her phone. She looked up, her face as blank as a refrigerator door and muttered something unintelligible (and certainly not welcoming) and pointed to the counter. She then went back to playing with her phone. And if you know anything about soul food spots, you'll know that sometimes a low-key or even gruff welcome is a sign the food's about to blow your mind, so the friendly vibe had me both surprised & optimistic. I ordered the cheese egg biscuit sandwich, which came in at $10. Let me tell you, the portion size was generous, definitely enough for two meals. The biscuit was fluffy, buttery, and had just a touch of sweetness, which paired perfectly with the savory cheese eggs. I always ask for cheese eggs when I eat out, and most places miss the mark. Not here. They got it exactly right. Coffee-wise, it was simple: basic drip with International Delight creamer. Nothing fancy, but honestly, it hit the spot and fit the vibe. The ambiance really sealed the experience. A smooth R\&B playlist floated through the space, adding to the cozy, feel-good atmosphere. It was a refreshing contrast to the more sterile, minimalist coffee shops I'm used to back home in Sacramento. All in all, Milk and Honey Cafe delivered on food, flavor, and feeling. If you're in the Alexandria area and craving soulful comfort food with a solid vibe, this spot is a must.
