A hidden gem in Northern Virginia. I wished I knew about this place earlier. A warm friendly place. The food is great! We will be back!

Wow!! Talk about excellent food and service . Everything we tried was delicious. From the boom boom mushrooms, chicken taquitos and potato skins to the fried pork chop, ribeye steak, salmon and chicken fettuccine ! Don't skip the dessert . The bread pudding with bourbon sauce and the chocolate cake made the end of the meal delectable . Sidney and Whitney were great. They had a smile on all the time and gave us excellent suggestions. The bar is fully stocked . Very nicely decorated and chairs are comfortable. Can't wait to try their weekend brunch.

What's not to say about this place! I'm here on a Thursday for Jazz night. Jazz night is EVERY THURSDAY! Great atmosphere! The SOUL food is the best in Northern Virginia! The owners and staff are warm and friendly! Great place for Sunday brunch. Amazing red velvet waffles and fried chicken or fried fish. Chicken, Steak are very JUICY! Not just saying that. Shrimp and grits are creamy market in your mouth. The cocktails are delightful and they don't skimp on the cheer! The bar is always a good time with great convo and friendly people! Local Gem!

If you're looking for some Southern comfort food, this is the spot. I tried the Lee's Platter, which comes with fried flounder, shrimp, and a crab cake. The crab cake was literally all crab and no filler! Also, do not sleep on the mac and cheese. It's super cheesy and basically the perfect side. Everything was delicious and I'm definitely coming back for more.

I like this place. The ambiance is perfect for all types of eating. If you're on a date, if you're with friends, if you're wanting to sit at the bar, the lighting and mood is perfect for all of that. The service was fast and pleasant. There were multiple people that checked on us and assisted us when we wanted to add something. We didn't have to wait to talk to our waiter. the food was good but not great. I think it was perfect even though it wasn't great. I say perfect because there was flavor on the food but there wasn't a lot. Sometimes you go places and their food has so much flavor I wonder how many people had to send the food back because it was too flavorful [salty] but that wasn't the case here. Matter of fact, by adding just a little bit of salt and some black pepper, it enhanced the flavor. I would rather write that the food needed a little bit of salt and pepper than I needed a gallon of water to chase the food because it was overpowering with flavor [salt]. I will definitely be back.

The food is good. I have tried the stuffed salmon and shrimp on different occasions. Both were delicious. I want to try some of their other offerings like the wings in the future. Their black eyed peas are good, but the macaroni and cheese was just okay. The service has been good, but I've only gone on Sunday nights before closing. The place is decorated in a tasteful way with black history. The prices are not cheap, but competitive with the restaurants found a few miles down the road in Old Town Alexandria. I will definitely return. 4 Stars

The service was great. I went during lunch so no crowd or long wait. The old fashioned was great. The pork chops and potato salad was great. The greens was okay.

Made a reservation on ToastTab for Thursday evening live jazz. There were about 13 of us in total all seated at different tables, but in the same section. The service was fine. There was a woman (maybe a manager or owner) who walked around to every table asking if things were okay. My husband ordered the pasta with marinara (not realizing it came with cheese- he had to send it back, he does not do dairy or meat). They should note that cheese is on it on the menu. I ordered three chicken wings (they were oversized - not my preference), potato salad, black eyed peas and one piece of cornbread. The chicken lacked flavor. It was just big and kind of greasy. The sides were fine. Ordered a piece of sweet potato pie to go and that was fine. The jazz contained a lot of talking. It was nice when they started playing line dancing music and there was a small area to dance. The dancing wasn't offensive or in the way...it was just right. Then came more talking. And advertising of a cruise, etc. It was okay, but I wish they played more music than talking. The same night, the restaurant attempted to charge me for a missed reservation fee ($5 per person). Luckily, I keep my AMEX locked. Weird, I gave my name to the hostess upon check-in. Wonder if that's happened to others. All-in-all, it was an okay experience. Not opposed to trying the restaurant again, but not necessarily rushing to get there.

Let me just start out by saying; "Reservations are key!" If not, prepare to wait, but when you get your food, you'll be happy. The wait staff was extremely friendly and personable. The restaurant had a bar in middle and the perimeter is where you can sit at tables or booths. I only had taste for fish and grits, but ended up with the shrimp and grits as well. SMH. They have Whiting, Catfish, or Flounder. The fish was a nice golden brown and had a light crisp. The grits had cheddar cheese, applewood smoked bacon, and spring onions. I felt like I was home. 5/5 The shrimp and grits consisted of the same ingredients (in the grits) with tomato butter sauce. This actually gave the grits more of a creole taste. 5/5 For dessert, I went with the Ghirardelli Brownie a la mode, as well as the Bread Pudding a la mode. Both were served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I asked for nuts to be added to my brownie, and the bread pudding comes with a bourbon or caramel sauce. Which one do you think I got. 5/5 Della J's stands up to its name because the food is delectable. TIL we eat again....

Lee's Seafood Platter & Sweet Corn Hush Puppies plus a bunch of sides

Placed my order online and it was ready when I arrived. I was greeted with a smile and welcomed by the hostess and was also greeted by Mr Jerry who gave me an introduction to the restaurant and spoke with me a bit about the Backlick location. Which was the location I thought I placed my food at. I was excited to come across a restaurant that has potato salad on their menu along with some other sides that satisfies my soul food cravings. Lees Seafood plater which consisted of a piece of whiting, a crab cake and 2 jumbo shrimps. My platter came with 2 sides which I opted for man and cheese and greens. I also order a side of corn, mashed sweet potatoes and 2 potato salads. Oh and let's not forget my hush puppies and a slice of sweet potato pie! I'm so full and it doesn't look like I end touched my sides. Hahaaa! The owner tried to tell me, not be to be fooled by the container the sides came in. I should've listened lol. I will definitely come back here for my soul food fix! The restaurant was clean and empty but it was also a Tuesday afternoon. There was a lady picking up her order who advised to never come on a Thursday. I guess she lived near by. Appreciate the heads up! Now I need a nap and a nice gym session hahaaa! Happy Yelping!

Della J'a is more than a restaurant--it's a family-run spot with a warmth that wraps around you the moment you walk in. Laughter, conversation, and the sound of plates clinking filled the air, giving it the kind of welcoming energy that makes you feel like you've been coming here for years. I grabbed a seat at the bar. Even though the place was *hopping*, the greeting was prompt and friendly. I ordered a quick plate of fried flounder and cheesy grits, and oh my--perfection. The flounder was fried to a perfect golden crisp that stayed crunchy all the way through my meal (a rare feat). AND, they had Crystal's hot sauce on deck?! What about the grits? Rich with cheese, bacon, butter, and cream--fluffy yet decadent--the perfect bed for the fish. I'll be back... and next time, I'm bringing friends.

Della J's is the spot in NOVA if you want down home cooking made with love! The food was amazing, the desserts are incredible and the soundtrack is thumping 70s, 80s & 90s R&B. The chicken was perfect seasoned, the mac&cheese was baked to perfection, the ribs were seasoned well and the sauce was very savory. The meat was tender and very meaty. Sides were great! Peach cobbler was from down home. Kai was an amazing server, great personality and sense of humor. She made us feel like old friend ends. Della J's was a great experience!!!! Every Thursday night it becomes a jazz spot!

During my lunch hour, i went here and was not disappointed. The vibe and music is good and just the friendly staff makes me want to stay a bit longer! My friend had her steak meal and stated it was good. I only wanted vegan and never had this stew, it was so good! It was that good, so yes I had the stew 2 days that week! Great food, good times, I will be there again, of course!

    Do they have vegan options?

I do believe they have vegan options

Hi there. Is there dine-in seating available?

Not currently however, with things easing up as more are being vaccinated, that could change.

    Is there outdoor sitting?

Limited outdoor seating, but yes. There are tables outside.

Does Della J's serve fried Chicken Livers?

we have not yet but plan to soon, it will most likely be a weekend special. Call the restaurant or check our website for updates.

What time does the brunch menu items end and lunch menu begin?

Hi, their menu says brunch is Saturday and Sunday from 11am-2pm. I'm not sure if you can get lunch at the same time as brunch, but lunch and brunch are on the same menu so I'm assuming you can. Hope that helps.

    Do you allow takeout?

Hi Tia, yes we do have takeout, our entire menu is available for carryout. You can view our menu at DellaJsDelectables.com.

Where is Della J's located? Please give a point of reference. I thought Della J's was next to Five Guys on Backlick Road.

It's basically across the street from 5 guys. It's in the strip mall; the restaurants name is in white writing.

Mr. Jerry/Ms. Lydia Would you consider adding to your menu 2 or 3 piece chicken (dark meat) meal with fries and cornbread? Or even as a special on a certain day of the week?

Hi Emma, thanks for reaching out with your question. We can certainly consider that as a special and may try that in the very near future. We appreciate the time you took to suggest exciting new food offerings, keep in touch with us by joining our…

The restaurant has a nice vibe and décor, but has too may steps for me, not good if you plan on getting lit. Our server was amazing, she was very knowledgeable and professional. Food wise: The cornbread was good, it came out pipping hot, with butter melting. The pork belly was my favorite.... Omg the Pork Belly was the star of the show---it was so sticky and sweet, the eggs and potatoes were pretty good, nothing extortionary. I was a bit skeptical about the eggs being from a carton, since I didn't see any white in the eggs. The chicken was so greasy and slightly soggy on the bottom. I don't think I'd order that again, the waffles were pretty good. I feel like the chicken and waffles are just great for show, in my opinion that dish didn't really deliver what I thought it would. I would return again, the chicken did not discourage me. It could've just been a bad day. I would recommend giving this place a try.

They were decent and I enjoyed what I had but it didn't move me to chorus. The fried green tomatoes were delicious. The biscuits for a cause were incredible. Hands down my favorite. Warm, fluffy, and paired perfectly with the jam and butter. The roasted half bird dish was a item on the special menu. They had a special on mimosas and had a few different dishes that weren't on the regular menu. The chicken was juicy and seasoned well. The green beans were nice and savory. From their tried and tested deviled eggs to their classic but with a twist Gochujang Tator Tots to their hearty Shrimp'N'Grits; the menu always has something that is sure to please each and every person in your company. My family and I enjoyed all of the dishes and we found that our selection of items was quite perfect for a group of three looking for a balance of savory and sweet. What we tried: The French Toast is crusted with cornflakes, making every bite a treat for the senses. I daresay that french toast should never be served in any other way. The crunch from the cornflakes elevates an otherwise humble dish and highlights the ingenuity of Southern cuisine: simple ingredients that when brought together deliver high impact results. The Shrimp'N'Grits was a delight. We have a dish similar to this which I insist the team at Succotash must try. It's called Kichuri; similar but different. This is perfect for those who prefer a savory breakfast packed with umami and flavor in every bite. Mr. Roger would definitely approve of this one. Potatoes are a universal favorite and thus Tator Tots were a must order for us. We didn't have any children with us but fried potatoes always satiates even the most picky of eaters. We did appreciate the integration of a gochugang aoili and pickled jalapeños. This elevated the dish enough to where it could be enjoyed by both adults and children. The Deviled Eggs are a no-brainer unless you are someone who hates perfection. They are the creamy dreamy accouterment to elevating one's daily protein intake and perfect wholesome addition to any breakfast or brunch. Not mentioned: I have had the Chicken & Waffles at Succotash and I still dream about it to this day. We did not have it in this visit because we decided to opt for more shareable items but the Chicken & Waffles is highly recommended. It's a complete meal: both savory and sweet. You know those little gems you don't want to share but also want around for ever? Down Home…read moreComfort Café Soul Food would be the prime example The second we walked in, we felt welcomed by Jessica's amazing energy. She took us through the menu and explained how to order via the QR code. It's a small place with a few tables, bar seats, and a tiny kitchen. The whole time we were there people kept coming in for take out orders so we thought we might have to wait a while, but the food came out pretty fast considering. The food was amazing, I was brought back to my husband's grandma's table. You could taste the kitchen's soul in the food and let me tell you, it's warmth, love, and joy. We had the chicken and waffles, burger, catfish and grits, smothered pork chops, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, fries, and corn bread and everyone cleaned up their plates. My husband and kids devoured the brownie trifle as I tried to protect the bread pudding like gollum his ring. We came in strangers, we left feeling we had found our home away from home. Thank you Jessica, we'll be back sooner than you think.

I love bread pudding, but this one just wasn't my favorite. It wasn't bad it just didn't quite hit the mark for me. The café itself is small, cozy, and welcoming. They have a small bar area, indoor seating, and a customer restroom that's tucked away in the back. When I stopped in, there were several people dining in, and it had a relaxed, homey atmosphere. Overall, I'd definitely recommend Down Home Cafe, especially if you're looking for a comforting brunch or a laid-back Sunday meal. I'll definitely be back for those chicken and waffles! Oh! Open parking!

We went here recently & were very happy with the experience…read more The biggest plus for us is they have excellent fried chicken. It's crispy on the outside & juicy on the inside. An order includes 2 pieces, each of them a breast & sort of a small leg attached (yes, that sounds weird but it's the best description I can come up with). An order comes with mashed potatoes & gravy on the side + collard greens. We each took one piece of chicken home for a second meal. On the down side, we weren't keen on the fried green tomato appetizer. It consisted mostly of heavy breading. Next time we're going to try the catfish fingers instead.

While our server was great and very attentive, unfortunately, the food left a lot to be desired. For the evening we tried the Devil Shrimp which is crab stuffed shrimp that came with spinach and mac & cheese. While the stuffed shrimp were delicious the mac and cheese not so much. I hate to say this but it was a step up from box Kraft mac & cheese. The Grilled lamb chops were served with roasted fingerling potatoes and sauteed green beans. While the lamb chops were plentiful and we appreciated that, again the sides that accompanied the dish lacked flavor. To be an upscale Southern cuisine restaurant they missed the mark on some of the staples sides and that was a little disheartening.

I wanted to try someplace new today and had seen Milk and Honey appear on my Yelp searches. Milk…read moreand Honey had a pretty good-looking menu and high Yelp scores. So I said why not, and stopped here on a weekday (today) around 1:30pm. I ignored the fact that the tables and chairs outside the entrance were in disarray and walked inside. I looked around, noticing first a narrow hallway to my right with one small table and a snack bar. To my left were two more small tables. Loud music of an unrecognizable genre was blasting away. I was the only customer. It didn't look promising, but I figured I could order something and take it home. I looked up at the electronic monitor to see if there was a menu, but it just was displaying an outdoor scene. Then I noticed a woman sitting in the corner on a stool intently fiddling with her phone. She looked up, her face as blank as a refrigerator door and muttered something unintelligible (and certainly not welcoming) and pointed to the counter. She then went back to playing with her phone. Oh no you don't treat customers like that, and think you are going to make a sale. I left immediately, never to come back. Just a totally inhospitable ambience.

I stumbled upon Milk and Honey Cafe, intrigued by its menu featuring Southern staples like chicken and waffles and biscuits. From the moment I walked in, the customer service was warm and welcoming. And if you know anything about soul food spots, you'll know that sometimes a low-key or even gruff welcome is a sign the food's about to blow your mind, so the friendly vibe had me both surprised & optimistic. I ordered the cheese egg biscuit sandwich, which came in at $10. Let me tell you, the portion size was generous, definitely enough for two meals. The biscuit was fluffy, buttery, and had just a touch of sweetness, which paired perfectly with the savory cheese eggs. I always ask for cheese eggs when I eat out, and most places miss the mark. Not here. They got it exactly right. Coffee-wise, it was simple: basic drip with International Delight creamer. Nothing fancy, but honestly, it hit the spot and fit the vibe. The ambiance really sealed the experience. A smooth R\&B playlist floated through the space, adding to the cozy, feel-good atmosphere. It was a refreshing contrast to the more sterile, minimalist coffee shops I'm used to back home in Sacramento. All in all, Milk and Honey Cafe delivered on food, flavor, and feeling. If you're in the Alexandria area and craving soulful comfort food with a solid vibe, this spot is a must.
