Today, 16May2021Sunday at approximately 3:30 PM , my daughter, her husband my one year old grandson entered this place. We asked if we can be seated outside at the back. Once we are waiting for our table to get cleaned up, a lady approached us and asked if we can sit in front outside of the restaurant because they are about to film and the baby might be making some noises. I said, we are not moving and we are staying here. Then the Restaurant Manager who is very nice and kind said, No you guys are staying here and not moving. But then, it already created a negative vibe. So I told the Manager, who is that lady and why is she telling us to move? Does she work here? The Manager said that she doesn't work there but the one in charge for filming. I said, she is the one acting like the owner and manager of this place. My point being, don't let anyone telling or dictating your restaurant guests anything unless they are an employee of your place. First of all, the Lady who is managing the filming of this place, dictating us to move. She should talk to the Manager first and then the Manager should talk to the guests. However, observing the surrounding of this place, it is not a family friendly restaurant. Five tables had couples in every table. I am just saying the Manager tried us to stay but it already started a negative vibe. I can't rate this place for food. We found a nice place that serves a real nice Italian foods. The food was totally bland and under seasoned, tomatoes were bug eaten, and the fork and water glass I was provided had leftovers from a prior guest's dinner. See pics attached. I highly recommend dinner for any celebration at this very enjoyable place. The food is absolutely tasty and the service is incredible. My husband and I were traveling on vacation and celebrated his birthday at this amazing Restaurant The server, Benedicto, made us feel very welcomed. Benedicto made small talk and gave us recommendations from the menu. I had the Spaghettini al Pomodoro e Basílico. I've had spaghetti at many Italian restaurants but not as tasty as this. I loved it!! Benedicto definitely made the dinner a nice experience as he gave us a bit of the restaurant history and I learned about Italian cooking. The atmosphere is nice and gave the feeling that you are having dinner in a nice garden. We ordered a bottle of Rosso di Montalcino Il Poggoine and the wine was great. Although we were full from the tasty entrees, we could not pass the dessert. The Torta di Limone and gelato were really good and combined great with the sparkling wine. We definitely had a very memorable experience. Thank you Benedicto for making our birthday dinner so special and enjoyable. The other restaurants reviewed from that show are Pagolac in the Tenderloin and Zazie in Cole Valley. *** _____________________________________ Ah, the rolling vineyards along Highway 121 to Sonoma are always a treat to soak in on a wine country excursion, and Della Santina turned out to be a charming and worthwhile destination for the hour-plus drive from my home in San Francisco. Just a block off the main city square, the restaurant looks like someone's home with the front parlor done up as a dining room. It was abuzz with activity the Saturday evening Jamie W. and I arrived, mostly with large convivial family parties obviously having a great time. What struck me first and foremost about Della Santina is the welcome feeling they appear to give every customer. Many of them, the manager and servers knew by name. I felt like they should have all yelled "Norm!" when I entered with Cliff...I mean Jamie. We were seated next to a window at a really small table for two, and my one preference would have been for a quieter dining space. It was only later that I noticed Della Santina is separated into compartments like a commercial airline. In the back is a more spacious area that provides a more conversational atmosphere with softer lighting. I finally realized we were sitting in coach and waiting for someone to tell us to put our tray tables in the upright position. We started with the Antipasto Misto, which was a nice assortment of prosciutto, salame, pancetta and kalamata olives (see photo). I was struck by the freshness of the meats since I must be used to the packaged flavor of antipasto served at more typical trattorias. Jamie tried a bowl of the Tortellini in Brodo, which offered quite a few of those hand-rolled tortellinis in a chicken broth, which was a bit on the nondescript side (see photo). Our entrees were next, and the portions were quite generous. I ordered the Pappardelle all' Antra, which was obviously made with homemade pasta and mixed with a tasty duck ragu (see photo). The texture was a tad too wet for my taste since I prefer noodles that are a bit more al dente, especially when they need to provide the backbone for the ragu. Jamie went for the Bistecca alla Fiorentina, which was a carnivore's delight (see photo). It was a grilled, three-week-aged Porterhouse steak, quite big and tender, and accompanied by some sautéed vegetables and roasted baby potatoes. Even though we were pretty sated at this point, we knew we had to try the desserts, which represented the high and low points of the entire meal. The Panna Cotta was disappointing with the mixture of Italian pastry rum and cherries yielding a flavor close to children's cough medicine (see photo). On the other hand, the Tiramisu was sensational with three liqueurs complementing the espresso nicely, and the texture of the ladyfingers just soft enough without being too soggy (see photo). To accompany our feast, we shared a bottle of Prosecco di Valdobbiadene, a sparkling wine that heightened the various flavors running through our respective palates (see photo). It was served in a nice silver bucket that unfortunately took up a huge part of our table, but the waiter compensated with a free glass of Muscat to finish off our desserts. Our window did afford us a view of the closed patio, which we concluded must be quite nice during the spring and summer months. As we were about to roll ourselves out of the place, we decided that Della Santina may be worth a return visit although we'll "pay" for the upgrade to first-class and ask for a table in the back. Dinner our last night in the area was one of the best of our trip. Great Italian food! It was freezing outside but their back covered terrace was warm, beautiful and inviting. We felt like we were in Italy. The cheese stuffed polenta over mushrooms was a great appetizer. The Penne Contadina was very good and I'm told the Pappardelli Al Sugo Toscano very good as well. The potions were good. Also they serve bread ...the balsamic vinegar was sweet...yum. Of course I couldn't leave without a cup of cappuccino and homemade Tiramisu..5 stars ..delish. The fruit filled Angel cake was also good I'm told. We had wine with our meal and they had a decent selection both by glass and bottle.we had the friendliest waiter, Georgio. He's the best. 6 of us went here on Sat 11/18/06 after a day in Sonoma. We really wanted to like this place after all the reviews but can't really recommend it. We had reservations, you really need them. We did show up early for your reservations though. Free bread but no special dipping sauce (that I read from Yelp reviewers) was given, we only had the olive oil that was on the table. The food is pretty good, but the service is pretty lousy. The food: Appetizers-are small, enough for two ppl like mentioned on the menu. You get prosciutto, ham, salami, some Kalamata olives, and a soft fresh cheese. We thought it was ok, one didn't like it all at. a Vegetarian friend got the gnocchi and I tried 1 piece. It really was a good version. Usually they are like lead, but this was tender and soft. How did they do that? I got Pappardelle w/ wild boar meat sauce topped w/ truffle oil $17.95-it was pretty good, but no liquid sauce, just lots of meat w/ noodles. B. got the Pollo allo Spiedo $15.95-spit roasted free range half chicken w/ fresh herbs. He liked it fine. The Panna Cotta -eggless custard finished w/ Italian pastry rum & Amarene (wild Italian cherries) was Awful. I love desserts-but I couldn't finish it, too much alcohol in the dessert ruined it for me. Friends got the Special dessert of the day-and they didn't like it either. Bad service-they gave a dish for a friend away to another table, and they didn't mention it until later. So the friend had to wait a very long time, Plus was not comped anything for his wait. Bad. They have one unisex bathroom-but I didn't use it so can't say anything about it. Cramped sitting in a small restaurant, they have a patio in the back though. So we called to make a reservation. They said don't worry about it and come in. We said ok. We showed up and they did sit us. Either by a fan blowing water or the corner of the restaurant. We chose the corner. Then he sits another couple in the upper patio. So we left. After I asked him why we got sat in the corner he said because they had reservations. I said we tried to get reservations and they said we did it need them. He was very smug and rude about the whole ordeal. Not sure if it's because my we are a mixed couple or not but he was not a cool dude. His attitude was very jerky and I we will not be patrons that place again. read more

My friend had a lovely dinner lunch here. We enjoyed the nice weather and the meal on the back shaded patio. Careful if you're the table at the very back though, you might get that one unlucky seat that's under direct sunlight - it gets hot! For drinks, we got both the house red and house white wines. I didn't try the red, but the white was a lighter, subtly sweet wine that I enjoyed. Onto the food! It was all good, well prepared, and probably gets extra good ratings just because the vibe of the whole place was so nice, relaxing, and romantic. You'll like it if you like cream sauces! There was nothing particularly wrong with the pasta, it just didn't stand out to me, and I probably would not crave this food again. Someone wrote a review saying that this is a tourist trap and I couldn't agree more. Sadly, I saw this too late. My boyfriend and I were spending the weekend in Sonoma and were craving Italian for dinner. This place is pretty big, they have an indoors and outdoors area. We got seated outdoors and I would think this patio is nice when the weather permits it, but the night we went, it was raining, so the plastic cover they had didn't provide as nice of an ambiance. The service was really poor, we waited for a long time after they sat us to take our order, and then didn't see the waiter for huge periods at a time. We had to get another waiter's attention to ask for our bill. We saw another table in the same situation as us. We were very disappointed with both our dishes. My boyfriend had a low average lasagna, and I had the parpadelle duck which didn't taste good to me. Our waiter brought us a tiramisu to apologize for the long wait, but again, it was mediocre. I wonder if we ordered the wrong dishes considering the high ratings for this place, but there is nothing we dislike more than eating bad food (and spending a lot of money, this place ain't cheap!) read more

It was our first visit and was very disappointing on several levels. It started poorly before we even arrived. I had called several days in advance to try to make reservations and arrangements for my husband who uses a walker. There was a recorded message that said "make your reservations online or leave a message here and we will call you back". I left a message. A couple hours later I received a text saying I should make my reservations online. I wanted to talk to them so I left another message the next day. They never returned my call. So why did their recording say they would call back? Rude, unprofessional and certainly not service oriented. So we went anyhow, with another couple who said this is their favorite italian restaurant in the area. Our service was poor - it took quite sometime before our waiter arrived at all, we had to ask several times to get our water refilled, the waiter never checked on us once our food arrived. We also asked to have 2 separate checks, one per couple. Our waiter indicated that we could give him 2 credit cards and split the total check but that he couldn't actually charge each couple what they ordered - really!?! The food - some good, some not so good. We shared a burrata speck appetizer - it was good. 3 of us had the duck pappardelle - the homemade noodles were good but the duck ragu was rather tasteless and dry. We shared a couple desserts which were quite tasty. So overall, not a very good experience - based on yelp reviews I was expecting more - what a shame. read more

Amazing atmosphere, friendly service, and very flavorful dishes! My friend and I sat outside on the back patio, which was perfectly dressed with flowers, plants and vines. Would have been an ideal date spot! Wait staff were wearing masks and some wearing gloves as well - we felt perfectly safe. Our favorite dish was the caprese salad - so delicious with an add on of pickled artichoke hearts, onions, roasted red pepper and olives. All super fresh! Yesterday I suggested to a friend that we go to Della Santina for lunch--it's always been a real pleasure in all aspects, and we wanted to treat ourselves. We both ordered panini, but got sandwiches encased in hard, mangle-the-roof-of-your-mouth baguettes in spites of the menu description promising ciabatta bread. We complained (I particularly do not like my food to hurt me) but the otherwise wonderful waiter steadfastly and utterly fictitiously maintained that for 27 years this had been the standard panino there. I insisted that a) it was inedible for me, and b) it did not match the description on the menu. I didn't dwell on the obvious c), that it was doubtful that this was their standard panini. The waiter kept up a strong defense of these weapons-grade sandwiches--until he didn't. He first came back with a (changed) lame story about how on weekends they don't make ciabatta and always serve panini on baguettes. Undeterred, I pressed on...he then came back with an actual loaf of ciabatta to demonstrate a point that remains a little fuzzy. At no point was there an offer of switching to what the menu promised, or any significant reduction in the lunch cost...the manager did give us a free dessert, which we really didn't want. The manager studiously avoided any eye contact with us the whole time, even as he passed back and forth to other tables. The poor waiter was in a horrible position and I hope nothing bad happens to him as a result of this review. The manager and the chef failed the waiter miserably...and us as well. read more

3.5 star. The food is just worth 3 stars, and the extra half star goes to the nice garden seating ambience. We arrived on a busy long weekend lunch break and the place was almost all full. The garden seating was nice because it was properly shaded and the carefully arranged vines, flowers and fountain keep our eyes busy. It took us awhile to get our food and overall the taste was just ok. Mine was a linguini pesto and despite all the good ingredients, I didn't get a good taste of either the tomato sauce or the basil flavor. This is a great lunch and/or dinner spot! We came here today with a long-time local and so we totally trusted her when she said this is her favorite place; and now I can see why! The ambiance for lunch was casual. If you get a chance, request the patio in the back. Even on a cool day, it's enclosed and they have heaters that keep it very comfortable back there. The place and all the servers are so nice and welcoming! Wine prices are very reasonable and they have a ton of options. I ordered the rotisserie chicken with mixed veggies and potatoes. It was cooked very well and the portion was great for $18. It's owned by a local father and son which gives it such a family feel; the son was waking around today greeting people and helping out all the customers which I LOVE to see. Came in for lunch with my mom, because I could only find one place in Napa that served Cannelloni, but they didn't open until 3 pm. The Good: We were seated right away, no reservation needed ( about 12:45 pm on Saturday afternoon ). They brought water with a lemon slice with the menus. The waiter was attentive, and we were never without anything we needed. The short rib special ( $ 25 ) with porcini mushroom ragu, and polenta was delicious. The tiramisu ( $ 9.00) and coffee ( $ 3.25 ) for desert was outstanding. The bad: The cannelloni ( $ 20 ) filling had an off, slightly bitter taste. Either too much ground spinach, or maybe too much sage or other seasoning. The Ugly: When I asked about the daily veal special, the waiter said there was none. When I pointed out that it was on the regular lunch menu, he told me it was a lie, and that they had a lamb shank special that day instead. Well then, it's NOT a DAILY veal special is it ?? lol. Overall, I'm glad we came and tried it. If I ever went back, it would be just for the coffee and desert, which was the highlight of the experience. read more

my meal was amazing, great service and food. i ordered the melon prosciutto salad and the gnocchi with the meat sauce-both we're amazing. the fruit was perfectly ripe and the prosciutto had great flavor and wasn't too fatty. the meat sauce was super flavorful and the gnocchi was so light and fluffy. i also ordered a glass of pinot noir that was also delicious. i will definitely be coming back! read more

Eight years ago my wife, daughter and I last went to this place; the host was so rude that I decided to never go there again. Well, I should have kept my word. Seating was offered only outside with the temperature somewhere in the 40 degree range. This place does have a lovely dining room but that was not being used for some reason. The garden is quite nice on a warm day, but not on a cold evening. The garden does have heat lamps, but our table had one. As a consequence, my wife and I baked, while our guests were cold. It doesn't get better: our table was covered with ants and we had to move to another table with no ants, but the same uncomfortable seating situation. The service was inattentive; the $30 corkage fee was high for a restaurant of this caliber and the food was mediocre to not good at all. My wife and I did not finish our meals. I think we will give it a rest for 16 years this time, read more
