One dog died (healthy but old) and the other lost over 10 lbs. no calls to let us know. We are heartbroken and I'm sick.

While trying to book a road trip for my husband, myself, and my mother-in-law, I came across this kennel's website. The website is a garbled mess with far too much going on, but the top of the page says they are open 7 days a week, and there's a reservation link on the left side of the page. I clicked it and sent an email. After a couple of days, I got a response saying I was confirmed for my selected dates. I showed up the morning of my reservation, only to find the kennel closed and no one answering the phones and no voicemail available. After making arrangements, last minute, at another kennel (Thank you, Preppy Pets!) and being on the road over an hour, I got a call back from Susan who informed me that they were closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays except from 4-6 pm-something, she assured me, she'd brought to my attention in the email, and that I had said it would be fine. We were planning to leave at 10 am. Why would I have been ok with dropping the dogs off at 4? With her on the phone, I pulled up the email and, as I already knew, there was no mention of the kennel's ridiculous hours at all. She still insisted that she had discussed this with me. She didn't. At all. It IS listed on the page, near the bottom and nowhere near where it says, "Open 7 days per week." When you have highly irregular hours, make sure you reiterate those hours when someone is scheduling a reservation. Booking a kennel is only one of many tasks one takes care of when going on holiday, and, when you take two days to respond, odds are good the person has looked at several websites and doesn't remember all their hours. Plus, if you're only open for two hours on those two days so you can "get a weekend," exactly what is happening with my dogs during that time? Finally, I'd like to make a few suggestions: 1) You need to hire someone to work the days you can't. Being closed in the middle of the week is beyond stupid. 2) Fix that disaster of a webpage so there aren't 30 things going on all over the place, and put those ridiculous hours at the top of the page so they aren't totally off the screen and out of sight when on the mobile site. 3) Don't argue with your customers about what you did and did not tell them when they have your response in writing. We took our dog there while we were PCSing from Ft. Stewart to Benning and we dropped him off and headed home to Ft. Stewart. Once we arrived home we had several calls on our answering machine saying that a family had our dog in Columbus because they almost hit hm in the street. The kennel had lost him and never called us letting us know the situation. We drove 4 hours back to Ft. Benning to come and get him and when we confronted the kennel about it they told us it was not their fault and that he chose to leave. I was awe struck at the stupidity of these people. We will NEVER take our dog back there and encourage others not to trust them with their pets either. read more

We've kenneled our dog, Huckleberry, at Dellwood twice, and both times we had great service at affordable rates. The owners were easy to contact to get updates on our dog while we were gone. My dog seems to be happy staying there. I would recommend this place to anyone near the Fort Benning - Columbus area. read more

I took my pet here because i had heard such goo things so i unfortunately didn t bother to really look up reviews, so for anyone who takes the time to read this please, please, if you love your dog DO NOT TAKE THEM HERE. this is my story. My husband I entrusted Dellwood kennels with boarding my best friend Shooter during the holidays while we spend them out of the country.a couple days into it i received a voicemail saying to call the states because it was urgent. Shortly after I found out that Dellwood had lost my best friend. My husband and I have talked to the owners at Dellwood as well as some friends have back in the area and we ve all been shocked at the response they ve given and how the situation is being handled. They seem to have no remorse at what has happened and have said that they didn t lose my dog, it escaped . They said he jumped three 6ft fences. My dog is not a jumper.Pitt bull are to heavy to jump that high. Not once has he jumped our fences in the back yard. They also said it happened the night of a big storm. The owner fed him Christmas Eve and he snarled at her, he s never done this either. The morning after, one of the keepers asked if Shooter went home because he wasn t there anymore. I m upset at the snarled comment because I feel like they are trying to make it seem like he is aggressive and that s just not the case. Anyone who knows him knows that he s a big baby. Yes he s a bully breed but any responsible pet owner and bully lover knows that they are trully kind and beautifull. Shooter is friendly. and how dare they have the audacity to not take responsibility. All Dellwood has said that they ve done is email out that he s missing to all the shelters and police dept, but they aren t actively seeking him out. The owner couldn t even remember if he saw Shooters collar on him, but when I dropped him off he was wearing it, it contained our home address and phone number. Now my questions/ grief to the business are; If you watch him day and night like you say, shouldn t this be something you remember? If there s a huge storm coming shouldn t you close the cage so that they don t go outside and get hurt? After all I did pay for an inside kennel. shooter was boarded with his best friend Phenix, a Great Dane, I dropped them both off, he wouldn t have left a kennel knowing that he has company there and he isn t afraid of storms to have caused him to run off. I had some friends that have posted signs, even though Dellwood says that its the least effective way to find a dog, so my friends visited shelters and vet offices. I would just hate for this to happen to any other pet owners and even though they have said that this has never happened in the history of them being opened my friends have done some digging and have found out that it has happened to another military family (The review just below mine that i wish i had come across.) This just recently happened on Dec 25th of 2012, at least thats what the kennel people said, he didn t even seem sure of the date. they make notes on a piece of paper with pencil, thats there scheduling system and i believe that they over booked and placed my dog outside instead of keeping him in the indoor kennel. i know they offer military discounts and are very reasonably priced but please think twice before you take your pet here.My husband and i are military and the military families are a tight nit community so just pay the extra money,book way in advance and go somewhere else. read more

Do not use this kennel! We have used this place a few times but never again. The most recent time we dropped our dogs off with pre-packaged daily meals and one of our dogs is on medication (already placed in the pre packaged meal by us). When we picked up our dogs the owner gives us eight bags of food back (we sent ten). Which means of five days our dogs got fed once. When we asked the guy about it he said "what do you want from me?" "I think I fed them". Oh I dunno, maybe you do what we are paying you for and take care of our dogs! And you THINK you fed them? Do not use this place. Take them to Harvard in Alabama. I boarded my two dogs with this kennel for a few days while I attended my best friends wedding. My sweet dogs were very distraught and shaking with terror when I picked them up. The lady who runs this establishment then proceed to hand me back almost all the food we had left for them and tell me how stupid my dog was. Needless to say I was furious and will not be using this kennel again. The dogs are kept in outdoor runs and none of the pets there seemed at ease or well looked after. We've used Dellwood on several occasions over the past year and a half - we never had any issues, and they came highly recommended by a few friends; all reasons I hesitated to write this review. But I will NOT use them again, nor will I recommend the kennel in the future. As I waited to pick up my dog after boarding, I witnessed an employee kick a small dog. (The little dog had gotten away from him as he was attempting to take it into the kennel.) I had my back turned, heard a scuffle behind me, turned around and saw the employee kick the little dog in anger. I confronted the employee, yelling STOP! and he responded: "He bit me!" Prior to this incident, I'd been petting the little dog as the dog owner filled out her paperwork to drop him off for boarding, so I know the dog was not vicious in any way. Now, though, the little dog was cowering in the corner. I was beyond shocked. I had never seen/met this particular employee; in the past, I've always dealt with the owners and have had no problems - they seem very nice and caring - but this young man basically called me a liar when the owner came into the office a moment later (with my dog). I informed the owner of what I'd witnessed, and was given no explanation or plan of how this particular employee would be dealt with. I do not know if this was an isolated incident, or if this is common practice. I personally do not want to take the chance with my dog. Also, I expected some sort of response from the owners: apology? update on training for employee anger management? firing of employee? but never received anything leaving me very disappointed and sad because of the wonderful service we've received in previous encounters. read more

Excellent, clean, and wonderful staff!!! We have boarded our dogs there for the last year and you will not find a more cost-effective, clean, and safe place to board dogs-both short and long term!! We have always been impressed with how happy and healthy our dogs look. They have a fantastic military rate and provide long-term boarding for deployments, schools, etc. Family-owned with large indoor kennels with private runs on a large privately-owned land.
