This is our 2nd time visiting the diner. It was closed for a while (I believe due to a change of ownership and renovation updates) and has now re-opened with a brighter interior decor. The menu is quite varied (compliments to the Head Chef/Management for so many choices) and the food itself is a cut or two above diner food. The food presentation, the service, the holiday decorations and holiday music playing softly throughout, gave a warm, homey feeling to the visit. Everyone was very friendly during both of our visits and we'll be back for sure as we officially move to Delmar in January 2026. read more

We are in town for a softball tournament and decided to check it out since it was close to our hotel. Our server Kendra was the kindest, sweetest person and she was so knowledgeable about the huge menu and definitely didn't steer us wrong. One of us had breakfast and the other had the fried chicken. We made friends with all of the flies. The flies by the front door, the flies in and around our booth, as well as the flies in the bathroom. Charlie, the king fly, was very attentive to us during our entire visit. When our food came, his continual presence made us feel quite at ease, knowing that had we needed anything, he would be there right away to assist. Flies aside, we were driving from northern NJ to Virginia Beach and the DE/MD state line just happened to be the area in which we decided it was time for some breakfast. Pro tip: Should you choose to avoid 95 and drive to Virginia this way, there are very few food options, save for the usual fast food type places, and I think we saw a Panera at some point, so a small diner like this may be where you end up. $16 later we both had some eggs, ham/sausage, hash browns, wheat toast, and coffee. It was delivered in about 7 minutes and got us back on the road, from start to finish, in less than 20. The eggs and meats were decently good, home fries needed a good amount of seasoning, and the toast was deliciously drenched in butter. Coffee was meh, but it's a diner, so i'll let that pass. Service was excellent, both from Charlie as well as our actual waitress. First time at Delmar diner. We dropped our Subaru at the local dealer forservice and based on yelp reviews decided to go to Del Mar for breakfast. Greeted as we walked in and promptly seated. Waitress could not have been friendlier. I ordered One of the breakfast specials called 222, two eggs, two French toast or pancakes and two pieces of sausage or bacon, all for 799. Wife ordered two eggs bacon hashbrowns and muffin four $4.95. Food arrived promptly and was hot and cooked as we ordered. Will gladly return next time we have a early service appointment and look forward to trying some of the other breakfast specials read more

So good!!! Even though they did not have crabs because of the craziness in the world, we enjoyed a family dinner. Everyone loved their meals and we were given a private room for our group which was thoughtful. We had the soft shell crab sandwich. It was great. Also we shared a fried seafood dish. After six or seven times here in the last two years and three or four other times within the last three years it's time to write a review. Delmar diner is just what it says, it is a diner. For Diners it's five star all the way because of its varied menu and it's daily specials. I've eaten here as a solo and been treated really well. But most of the time I've eaten either with my SO or with a bevy of family members. Today It was a family event with six hungry diners on a cold winter day. We had a great server who was training another server and neither of them missed a beat. Other times we've had other servers and it's always been great service. The six hungry eaters here today ordered exclusively off the specials menu and we ate roast turkey with stuffing and mashed potatoes, a flounder sandwich that when I looked at it I could not believe how big the piece of flounder was. It was hanging off the roll. All of these entrées included soup and we all choose the Maryland crab soup which was a creamy, crabby delight. Two of us had a hamburger platter. The age group was 15 and 16, and 38 to 62. Everybody was extremely happy. I think the reason the food is so good here and the service so kind is because the owner is on site for a long time each day. That truly makes a difference. So the next time I'm headed to Salisbury or Ocean city Maryland there's no way I can avoid stopping here for a meal. read more

I so was hoping this would be a win since it is so close to my house, but time and time again it has proved me wrong. Not sure why I keep subjecting myself to this. Other than the soup and fried chicken nothing else is good and somewhat pricey. Tonight I ordered the double fried pork chops and ended up having to come home and cook as I threw the platter away. The pork chops were nothing but a thick breading with no seasoning what so ever. Best part was the baked potato but was only given one small butter. The zucchini and onions with carrots could have been cooked longer, the vegetable beef soup that came with the meal was too salty so I had to throw out and even the crackers it came with were old and stale. read more

After the 1 st day they remembered my order. Great customer service. My husband loves their French toast and I loved the Turkish Omelet! It is packed with goodness and good for Keto people. Situated on the Maryland/Delaware state line, (hence the name of the town and diner) this Typical of the mid-Atlantic Diner phenomenon, Delmar has a pretty good menu, with lots of choices. The service is friendly, especially on a weekend evening. Prices are on the higher end for diner fare. The parking lot is iffy, but navigable. Better to enter from the Southbound side of the highway, then fight from the Northbound side. read more

Came in here for the second time with my mom after having a decent breakfast meal with my in-laws in December. We ordered the Chesapeake Fries and a chicken salad sandwich to split between us. After getting our "steak fries with crab dip" the outlook for the meal looked grim. The "steak fries" were really burnt potato logs covered in unmelted cheese and what seemed to be leftover cream of crab soup. Once the waitress brought out our sandwich, it had almost an ammonia smell to it to the point where we thought it was actually tuna fish. Another stop on the road between Philly and Newport News is the Delmar Diner in its namesake town just across the Delaware border in Maryland. When we pulled in after our first three hours on the road, the place had a few folks eating a late lunch, although the Happy Hour started at 3 and went to 7. We sat at a booth facing Rt. 13, across from the bar. It was clean and the owners/staff friendly and helpful. We wanted just enough to tide us over until we reached our destinations in another 3 hours where we knew dinner was waiting. My son ordered the Italian Hoagie, and I the Texas Burger (medium). Both arrived in a reasonably short time. The hoagie had amply slices of Ham, Salami and Provolone on a soft long roll. After removing the onions as he always does, he seemed happy with his meal. It was a big sandwich and he was done at halftime. My Burger was decent, with American Cheese, Sautéed Onions & Mushrooms. The roll was not quite up for the rigors of the meal, and began to soak up the moisture in the sandwich and fall apart. I switched to knife and fork to finish the job. The side of Fries were also adequate, but plainly of the frozen variety. While it wasn't a memorable meal, it served its purpose of a good rest stop along the highway of life. One very unique aspect of Delmar Diner was that Dr. Phil was on the HDTV during Happy Hour. I guess that dispenses with the need for a wise bartender to help patrons with their problems. read more

The food was awful. They had cream of clam soup which was basically clam in milk with lots of salt... My daughter got a Texas Burger which was very bland and the bun was completely soggy. We paid 12.99 for that burger that she did not eat. We got fried mushrooms which were both burnt and raw .Raw on the inside burnt on the outside...When I asked the waitress for salsa to go with my chicken quasadila ,she brought out a warm bowl of something that tasted like a spicy marinara sauce with mushrooms.. When she came back to the table. I told her she could take it because that is not salsa. She gave me attitude and said it's their homemade salsa. I said it might be homemade but it's not salsa .. We asked for containers to take the food home( Literally doggy bags) She never came back to the table. I had to hunt down another waitress to get containers. Then she put charges on my bill. That weren't supposed to be there because the soup was supposed to come with the meal and she charged me extra.... The food is outrageously overpriced the quality is poor and so is the service. I passed this diner several weeks ago and didn't stop. Tonight on the Salsbury Television station WBOC they highlighted this restauant and the owner/chef cooked several dishes. OMG....looked delicious. We are going back to the same area next week, and we are stopping there for lunch. It is not a regular diner as they serve wine and beer, make prime rib, and a lot of very delicious sounding entrees. This is definitely not your meat and potato diner spot. Let me start by saying I have been to this place many times, and have eaten dinner here many of nights. Recently, it has changed hands of ownership Apparently, And has gotten a new menu and a new set of rules. They don't carry the specials that they used to like cream chip beef on the menu even though they will serve it if you ask for it. The prices have gone up substantially but let's be honest what has it? The problem is the portions are substantially getting smaller as the prices are substantially getting bigger. I took my mother here recently for Thanksgiving buffet, which I called ahead of time to ask for any specials. When we arrived, we were greeted at the door and asked if we wanted the Buffet, for which we replied that we did, for two people. Upon grabbing a plate and heading to the buffet we soon realized that it was only about 8 to 10 stainless pans with less than adequate amounts in each. Some were not even lit and were cooling off. My experience has always been Thanksgiving is a full course meal from everything like cranberry sauce, all the way down to desert, including pumpkin pie. We were charged $26 per person for a Buffay that didn't even include pumpkin pie. Nor did it have turkey. The Lido for the gravy was twice as large as the spoon for the mashed potatoes. And if it wasn't for the yams and mashed potatoes, we probably would not have filled up on enough. There was that little to choose from. They did have steaks, but it was approximately 3" x 3" pieces that had so much gristle and fat that half of it went to waste. Whatever they cooked them in Were good though. They definitely know how to season them. Moral to the story is that this place is becoming a scam and I would recommend you saving your money. They bought the place looking at the figures of all the locals that love it, and they are going to ruin it by changing it so much that we are soon going to find new great places. This is one of the closest spots for dinner to my home. It has been a regular for my family for the last few years and unfortunately is not one of our favorites or frequent visits anymore. Thanksgiving buffet for two which we ended up buying two coffees as well as two small pumpkin pies to go home. What do you think that should cost? When I walked in, I thought Thanksgiving buffet would be a maximum of $15 a person and that would be for a decent buffet. The one we were offered would have been much less in my opinion but they were charging $26 a person. So $80 later after my bill and tip and here we are. read more

I'm sorry to have to downgrade my review but today's lunch was so bad I felt an obligation to post. Covid is hitting our entire economy in a most devastating way right now so I have a lot of empathy for struggling restaurants. That being said, I just can't ignore food that is well past it serve by date. It is sad and I wish them well, but the very nice stir fry we had on a previous visit is not enough to ever bring us back again. There is more to safety than masks. I worry about food safety too and having to spit food out that tastes rancid makes me nervous about what else might be a problem. I am generously giving them a 2 star review because I think this is very fix-able with some quality control oversight. read more

Food was good and service was prompt. Overall decor was dated and sad. Bathrooms were ok but not as clean as I'd like. Limited menu without diner staples like gyros, and milkshakes. I went safe with an omelet that was ok but certainly not outstanding. My husband had the Ruben which he said was good. Fries were nothing special ... out of a frozen bag but crispy. We noticed another table enjoying the most generous wine serving ever. The wine was poured to the very top of the wine glass. The service was friendly and fast, the portions were very generous and the taste was good, I was not able to finish my dinner. This is a great place for a quick bite! Having recently moved to the area I stopped in here for a bite on my way up north. I was pleasantly surprised. After a long string of "diner" experiences that had me looking at a menu with prices ranging from $8 to $15 for "diner" food, which I think is outrageous for "diner" food, it was nice to finally hit one that had regular, normal prices. I had the club sandwich and it tasted great. It came with fries, slaw(awesome slaw), and soup(because it was a "special of the day"), $7. My server, Stephanie, was helpful as could be and always had a smile. The restaurant itself was good sized and clean. Even the bathrooms smelled of bleach. Yeah really, bleach! Nice huh? I don't remember the last diner restroom I went into that smelled clean. The only drawback of the place is the french fries. It's hard to explain the type of fries they serve here, but they come from a vendor as I have run into them before. They're the fries that are supposed to be "coated", but really aren't. The only coating I can ascertain is some orange greasy exo-skeletal(my inner geek coming out) shell the fry is enclosed in. I have stopped eating at places simply because they serve these types of fries they're so gross. However, since the rest of my experience was great I asked Stephanie if other things could be substituted at no cost. Friends and I were in the area during a 4 day dog show at the civic center in Salisbury. And since I grew up in Delmar - I looked to my Delmar friends for a great recommendation for where to eat! Delmar people know food!!! Going to the Delmar Diner for a meal - any meal! is like going home to a great home cooked meal with family!!!! Since my Mother was a great cook - and I had a great family I KNOW what the means! From your 1st step in the door you're met with a welcoming smile - not the typical gushy greeting that is so "common" these days! The restaurant is comfortable - and takes you back to diners and restaurants of the past. Our waitress, Flo, was the best! She's the cousin that everyone wants! She is so knowledgeable of the food: taste, preparation, ingredients! The owners came to visit us - the chef came out! Yep - I was home. OK - the food!!!! Oh my... the food! We are there 4 times!!! We just couldn't eat anywhere else! The menu is extensive and the daily specials are brilliant! The 1st night the specials included Chicken and Dumplings! One of my all time favorites! This is NOT Cracker Barrel Chicken and Dumplings - these are the real things - Hand Made - Hand Cut. The chicken is abundant - moist and tender and I could have taken a bath in the gravy. The dumplings were the perfect combinations of fluffy and chewy. Unless you're from the Eastern Shore you have no idea what I'm talking about! They are - sorry - my Delmar friends - as good as your Momma's but without the mess! Homemade - did I mention that every is HomeMade!!!! The rolls, salad dressings, soups! everything. And special requests??? Not a problem! Over the course of the 4 visits - we had scallops, the Italian Seafood Platter, Hamburger Steak, Pork Chops Bela Vista (pork chops Marsala!!!), creamed chipped beef, Turkish Omelet and a Rueben! and more and more!!! They charge 70 cents for water. What? We ordered our food which was good but then we were slipped a 70 cent charge for each water we ordered. First time this happened in any restaurant.
