I'd say the food was mostly enjoyable, I had a few irks with my combo though: - the burger was about half the size of the bun, and shifted to one side of it - the guac wasn't very good - I didn't get to say how to cook my burger, so it was overcooked for my tastes Overall though it was an enjoyable meal. 8/28/25: My neighbor and I had stopped by before, but due to remodeling, was advised by the owner to give him an opportunity to take care of us when they re-opened. They have been in business since 1957. Old school vibe, with nice antique décor. Great atmosphere, and limited seating. Customer service is great. You order at the counter, and your number is called when the food is ready. I had a burger with onion rings and a root beer. The food was prepared fresh and the root beer was really, really good. The frosted plastic mug was a nice tough. The restaurant was pretty clean, and the restaurant was steadily busy. I LOVE an old school joint, and wow does this place pass the litmus test. If you like a spot that feels frozen in time in the best way, you will feel right at home here. Parking is street parking but it was surprisingly easy. We showed up around 11:30 on a weekday and the place was already hopping, which is always a good sign. I ordered the burger with the so called tangy relish. Just a heads up, it is mayo based and there is a LOT of it. And by a lot, I mean possibly a quarter cup. Personally, it was way too much for me, and the burger ended up swimming a bit. My husband got the Texas burger and thought it was fine. We shared onion rings, which were tasty but a pretty small portion to split. Think about five rings total, so plan accordingly if you are a ring lover. The true standout, however, was the root beer. Do not skip it. It comes in a frosted glass and is exactly as good as that sounds. Refills are only fifty cents and absolutely worth it. First off I gotta say the food here is great. I wouldn't say anything is off the charts amazing but for the price and place, it's great. I wouldn't say anything compare this to a very juicy hearty burger that has that homemade touch to it. If you're looking for something that'll blow your mind then this isn't the place to go but if you love burgers and just want one of those burgers where you're not afraid to get messy and when you have a "burger tooth" then this is your place. If I was being nitpicky, the only thing I had complaints about was how much fries you get and the smell towards the soda machine. I get it. It's a burger spot so the fixation should be on the burger and not everyone eats a lot like me but it felt like a kids side of fries in my opinion. The area by the soda machine smelled sour but I know it's from the cleaning supplies. It's nothing crazy to where I wanted to leave but honestly you don't smell it until you get close to that area. I think putting those things somewhere else or somehow masking the smell would be great. Overall the spot is super small and one of those hometown burger spots. Today my burger wasn't as great as it has been in the past BUT it was still really good! Our guess was that the grill was too hot so it just didn't cook as well as it has before when we have been there. However, the root beer was excellent as always! And I probably will be super honest and admit that the majority of the reason I go to this place is for the root beer. It's divine! I just stay for the burgers and fries. Everything came out hot, fresh, and packed with that smoky, old-school flavor that's hard to find anymore. Straight-up great tasting food, no complaints there. Service was solid too. The guy at the register, Andrew, clearly knows his regulars. He was greeting people by name, even the local PD. Says a lot when a place has that kind of loyal following. The building itself has been around since 1957, and you can tell it's like time stood still in the best way. Feels like a slice of Richardson history right off McKinney St. Inside restaurant is compact, but there's outdoor seating. Only drawback? No umbrellas. So if it's blazing hot or raining, you're rolling the dice. Parking can be hit or miss when it's busy, but we lucked out with a spot out front. Otherwise, you'll find street parking on both sides. All in all, 8 out of 10 strong burgers, good people, and a piece of local history that still delivers after all these years. Walking into this place is like walking back in time. It's been in business for over 66 years, and the current owner takes great pride in owning this business. Most night, it's crowded. Are Richardson's locals palates bland? I think so. I came here on Labor Day, which may have been my first mistake. The hype around this place paints it as some old school Texas burger joint worth the drive, but what I got was a reminder that nostalgia does not always equal flavor. I ordered the #12 Texas Cheeseburger combo. It was fine. Solid in that gas station road trip burger kind of way, but nothing memorable. The bacon and sauce carried the entire thing. The fries, on the other hand, were limp, saltless, and lifeless. More like an afterthought than food anyone should serve with pride. Here is where it went sideways. I asked for a chili cheese dog. Instead, I was handed a #4 burger and then gaslit into believing that a butterflied hot dog on a bun somehow counted as what I ordered. It did not. It was kind of insulting, lazy, and quite frankly, a bit absurd. The service? Straightforward to the point of indifference. No welcome, no energy, no trace of giving a damn. I even mentioned it was my first time there, 0 excitement on their end, 0 expectations on my end. If you do not want to work on a holiday, do not. But do not give vapid interactions to the customers who showed up expecting what the place claims to be. The one saving grace was the lemonade. Genuinely great, bright, and refreshing, a diabetics dream. But for $21 with no option to tip, I walked away feeling like I had paid to be part of someone else's bad mood. Great hamburgers! I visited with a friend on a weekday for lunch around noon and it was busy! Food was ordered and delivered at a counter. Self service sodas - except for the frosted mug root beer my friend enjoyed. Food took about 10 minutes to cook. With all the customers talking in the dining area it was noisy. I'd never been to Del's before but had to try it based on all the 5-star reviews. No blank-faced, bored staff here - the owner, Hoss, greeted me and made me feel warmly welcome. I took his recommendation of a Texas burger which arrived quickly and man, was it worth it. The charcoaled flavor was noticeable - not overpowering but enough to let you know it was there and the bun was so fresh I was amazed that I'd never felt anything as soft as that before. Once I'd finished, Hoss asked me for some feedback regarding his place and food, so I was happy to oblige. We then sat down and had a bit of a chat together and he told me some of the history behind Del's (he bought the business around 24 years ago from the original Del Smith). The burger took about 10 minutes to arrive after ordering (despite being busy)! The woman working the counter was friendly. Inside the restaurant is first come first serve seating. They have a lot of trinkets from the 60s decorated all over the wall. The burger itself was so good! You can taste the charcoal's smokiness on the burger. When you drive up be aware that the parking is limited and can be a problem. If you have an SUV or large car, your door will get hit since the slots are so close together. When you enter, you took Marty McFly's Delorean and landed back in time. You order at the counter from their menu-pretty basic. They food is prepared infront of you which looks and smells pretty on point. We ordered their basic burgers with onion rings/sweet potato fries. While we were waiting, I used the bathroom to wash my hands. The restroom is tiny and has not been updated since the Carter Administration. The customer service could have been better since the crowd was small. You can see in the picture that the portions of onion rings and sweet potato fries are small for the price. The burgers had a good taste and are equal or a bit smaller than In-Out burgers. It was $28 for 2 burgers/sides and water. It was ok but might not make this place a stop in the future. read more

I heard about it for years, but being in the area when I wanted a burger just never synced up until today. I went in with high hopes given how long this place has been in business. Freshly made burgers cooked over charcoal was the expectation given the name of the place. We walked in had no issues placing our orders. Two dels specials with onion rings, curly fries, and two frosted root beer mugs. When they handed us our receipt, they gave us two styrofoam cups and no root beer. I figured maybe the frosted cups were coming with our order. The soda machine only had three choices, non of which were the root beer I've heard so much about. The food came out with no root beer. I was pretty disappointed since it was one of the main things I was craving. We were charged for it though. I tried the onion rings and they looked and tasted of frozen. The curly fries were all small and broken bits. I could tell they were using a cheap frozen product for them as well. The burger patty was dry and had no seasoning on it. It tasted like it was cooked from frozen and they had smashed all the juice out. The grill is a gas grill with no charcoal in the house. The three things I had been excited about were all subpar or flat out missing. I left feeling ripped off and that I had wasted my time and money on this place. I'm sure it was good at some point, but the new owners have really cut the corners on what I was lead to believe was going to be a classic burger experience with freshly made items. I finally made it to Del's after several attempts. The last attempt they had closed for a brief period. I love a good burger and when I passed their location headed to another for lunch I had to return for a good old fashion CHARBROILED burger. The place was extremely crowded and outside was scorching. Therefore I ordered a cheeseburger with no jalapeños and the hickory sauce on the side. I immediately opened the brown bag to chow down but instead became angry. The burger was not appetizing and the bun appeared to have come right out of the bread bag. It wasn't toasted nor browned anywhere; just right out the sack. I took the top bun off and was even angrier. Then I decided to eat it lunch time was spent waiting. Boyyyyyyy am I glad I took a bite of that burger. The meat was cooked as requested and the charcoal flavor was bursting through every time I chewed. The cheese tasted like cheddar which I love. The bacon was cooked to perfection and I wanted more.
