I think they have open for 15 years but it seems like we have been going there a lot longer than that. One of our favorite if not our favorite burger place. Never any problems. Their $8.99 lunch special with their great fries and a drink is better than Chilis. I have tried some of their franchises? in other cities but none of them is as good as this original Richardson location in fact I am not sure if any of those other locations are still in business. They have a lot of items on the menu and the few that we have tried have all been good but it's hard to pass up their burgers. The Jungle burger is the best. read more

This place specializes in burgers. They do have a few other items on the menu, but burgers are the main course. They have a picture board that quickly lets you select a burger sandwich, but you can also study the menu board that lists everything that comes on the predefined sandwiches. Combos with a burger, fries and a drink are often cheaper to get than the specialty burgers listed. For instance, I was going to get the jalapeño burger (-$7.50) along with a drink and fries, but it was actually cheaper to get the standard burger combo and then pay extra to add jalapeños to the sandwich. Two guys worked behind the counter and cooked our burgers on the grill. Our meals were brought to our table. The drink station had Pepsi products. You could also order a beer here. They had bottled items and a few beers on tap. The facility was relatively clean in appearance, but there was an unpleasant smell coming from the bathrooms. I chose a table as far away from them as possible. I didn't check them out. It's a snack bar, hangout. This is a greasy spoon that you might come to for a quick bite or to get an order to go, but it is definitely NOT a date night place or a place where you would want to hang with your girlfriends. My husband absolutely loved his meal. He was happy with the freshly cooked burger and the reasonable price. The burger tasted fine, but it was a bit greasy. Juices dripped onto the paper-covered metal tray with each bite I took. I was afraid to set my sandwich down because I wasn't sure I would be able to pick it up again without it falling apart. Afterwards, I doused my hands with Purell to clean up a bit. I couldn't wait to get home to wash my hands with soap and water. Crinkle fries were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside as expected. There was Ketchup on the table. A variety of hot sauces were available at the drink station. If you are hankering for a burger, head to this strip mall in Richardson to get one. read more

Used to be pretty solid for a local Richardson burger spot, but with the burger temp pretty much never coming out how you want it and the fries always coming out soft and under cooked I wouldn't recommend. Drive 5-10 minutes in any direction and you will be much more happy with another spot Del's, Shady's, Wulf, JG's, Edmond's, and the best Sky Rocket. Sad to see this place go down the hill. read more

Ive been away much too long! Actually, I was in the area and looking for lunch. I drove through the parking lot rubber necking the place for some reason while trying to decide I spotted the lunch special sign. A quick u-turn,parked in front and I was in the door. How about a little Burger Island history to start out. Between 15 and 20 years ago, I saw a blurb in the then widely circulated alternative newspaper, Dallas Observer. It ranted positive about this new Island burger place. As a life long Certified Card carrying Burgahalic,I jumped at the first chance. If not mistaken it was this location. With my first bite all those years ago I was sold. It was one of the best hamburgers I'd ever had and reasonably priced. Add the fresh hand cut fries and you have a perineal winner. Jump forward to present day and things have changed. Recently I noticed other locations I'd eaten at and thoroughly enjoyed,closed. Bad sign right. I suspected the pandemic had something to do with that. I also suspected Burger Island had changed ownership. A little research indicates I may be right. Bottom line,the dry meat on my burger today is usually a telltale frozen meat. Also,the fries have changed. I've been here several times over the years. I think it used to be better. I usually got the chili burger so I couldn't tell how dry and flavorless the meat was. Really good seasoned fries I'll give them that. The service has never been friendly but I can live with that if the food was better. Has zero atmosphere so get it to go if you don't mind having to reheat your food. From now on I'm going to drive a mile further for better burgers and fantastic onion rings at Snuffer's on Campbell. Very friendly folks. Very nice atmosphere for dining. It's an institution for in the Dallas area for about 40 years. Many more choices and better prices. Burger Island is one of our favorites. Located between our house and my wife's office, it's easy to call in or order on line and pick it up when taking her lunch. Equally, she can order just before leaving in the evening and grab it on the way home. We've never had a bad meal there. I love their chicken fried steak sandwich and onion rings while my wife enjoys the guac burger and their sweet potato fries. Inside is always clean, the staff friendly and helpful and a large selection to choose from. read more

These guys are the worst racist poor service individuals I have ever come across in the food industry. Not only are they unfriendly but make it down right uncomfortable to order food. The fries were cold and leathery, the hamburger was SALTY I had to put salad on the burger in order for it to be edible. Burger Island sports some friendly staff and decent-sized burgers. I only wish the place was just a bit cleaner. The quality is just a step above fast food burgers, though. Fries came out unevenly seasoned between hardly anything to crusted with pepper. The texture and taste of the fries I'd only give a 3 outta 5. I loved the creativity of the Jungle Burger, so I, of course, went for a double. The bell peppers and provolone was a very nice touch and I did like the hickory sauce but too much was on. Jalapeños on a burger are normally a great thing for my palate. These, unfortunately along with the hickory sauce, took over the burger and it was getting more and more challenging to taste the other ingredients. The only fail of this burger is the bacon. Cooked to a crisp. Ugh, such a crime. But I would still come back here and try other burgers like the Hawaiian and guacamole cheeseburger. After you get a feel of how a place makes their meals you can tweak it to your preference and enjoy it more. And for these insane low prices I would absolutely be more inclined to give them a second and maybe third chance. read more

This is a nice small cozy restaurant- greeted by kindness !!! I was able to enjoy the cowboy burger- it came with mushrooms and pepper jack cheese, subbed the grilled onions for two onion rings and added barbecue sauce. It was the BOMB!! The fries were crispy and seasoned well. I enjoyed the clams, we also had the fried onion strings, jalapeño poppers, and mozzarella sticks. The jalapeño poppers and mozzarella sticks weren't cooked all of the way so the cheese in them weren't melted. Their Pepsi was good, nice and harsh! Since I've been here (Texas) I've only been to places with Coke products, so this was a relief for me! So if you would like a good big burger, this is the place for you! read more

I really dig Burger Island's burgers. In the burger joint madness that's going around- Burger Island is a top 5 for me. Not a religious experience- I'll reserve that for Bahn Mi's and Pho- but it's a good hunk-a cow. The price is real good. If you are one of those people that drink water with lemon and skip the fries, the price would be world class! The menu is extensive with burger choices and sides. You can't go wrong if you like ground beef, bread and anything added to it. Go to town!! I went with some buddies and we saw a good sampling between us. The double fried egg burger is on my radar for the next visit. I had staked my repuation on the fact that Burger Island was a hidden treat among burger joints to these guys and they agreed- reputation in tact! It more than made up for my Ice Bar selection in Orlando... turns out- they had a drag night the evening we went. We even decided to do a "Burger Brackets" competition and I'm takin Burger Island to the show. Sure, there are other great burgers around- but this is the sleeper I expect to win...Sorry Keller's...Sorry Snuffer's (green chili burger). Well done, Burger Island, well done. You ever have that feeling where you have no idea what you're hungry for? You try to think of every restaurant in a 10 mile radius and either nothing comes to mind or nothing sounds good. That would describe you the night was going for me pre-Burger Island. My girl and I were tossing names back and forth, and then we thought "How bout that burger place in the strip mall." We both were up for trying the spot and it's incredibly close to the house, so we donned our best Hawaiian apparel and surfed over (our best apparel consisting of jeans and a T-shirt). I must say, very solid. For all the quasi-hype that old standbys like Snuffers and such get, this place deserves to be right up there. Equally generous with both taste and caloric content, Burger Island delivers a big, tasty burger at a fairly reasonable price. Their burgers are all around $5 and you can purchase pretty much anything fried that you can think of to go along with it for just under $2. My lady and I opted for the chili cheese fries, which were really really good. I got the Hickory Burger (one of about 10-12 specialty burgers they offer). It came with sauteed onions, swiss cheese and a solid BBQ sauce. My girlfriend got the Big Island which came with mushrooms, onions, jalapenos, and the standard trappings of your regular burger. All really good stuff, especially considering our expectations weren't incredibly high. The interior is painted to look like a beach scene and there are some fake palm trees around. It's all pretty tacky, but adds to the dive-y charm that makes Burger Island a lovable neighborhood joint. We'll definitely be back after a few months on the treadmill! read more

I had placed an order on EAT24 and they sent my order to the wrong location. NOTE: Different owners so they wouldn't transfer the order. However, the owner said to cancel the order and he would make it fast and he did! I had to change my order a bit but the philly cheese steak and the chicken fried steak sandwich I order were great. So were the tots. Everything that was fried was clean tasting and didn't have that old oil taste. I was very pleased! The owner was very nice and gave me a menu for his location. We will be back.
