I believe it's relatively new because I've never noticed it before on Block Island and I tend to notice ice cream places. Then again it is sort of tucked away in a corner and could be hard to see. The store is small, with a counter for the scream and various candies and other treats scattered around. A couple of tables inside and a courtyard overlooking the ocean on the outside. Saying that the view is great is actually an understatement. We didn't bother with the candy but the ice cream was absolutely incredible. Smooth and rich and no doubt containing a astronomical amount of calories and fat, just the way great ice cream should be. They don't have vast amount of different types but enough variety to satisfy anybody except those looking for something very unusual. There aren't many things better in life than sitting in a beautiful spot over looking the ocean and devouring great ice cream. Even though it was hoter than hell when we were on the island, a cool breeze was coming off the water and combined with the richness and algidity of the great ice cream the world was a perfect place. At least our little part of the world. Their are lots of ice cream places in the world but The Scoop Shack is one of those special places that I will always seek out when I'm on Block Island. Service was fast-- by the time my boyfriend was ordering after me, my scoop was ready. Totally recommend and it was pretty close to the Mystic Seaport Museum.
