An enjoyable evening. We hadn't been to Demi's restaurant previously. So, this is my review for a first time visit. I ordered the Pistachio, 2 stars. Our service was good. As w/ most Richmond restaurants, it was LOUD! The other entree was the pork tenderloin w/ marsala & it looked really good and I was told it was excellent. 4 stars. This restaurant is a welcome addition to MacArthur Ave! We had a party of 5 that was turned away at the Mill so we decided to try this new spot and we are NOT sorry that we did! It was busy but still quick with service and hospitality. The menu is vast but everything we got was delicious and we are looking forward to returning to venture deeper into the menu. I have been here a few times and the food and drinks are excellent! The problem is the service. Both times I was there it took over 45 minutes just to get someone to take a drink order. Our server must have walked by our table 15 times without saying a word, and then we watched all of the servers have a conversation while we still had not even been greeted. The food is excellent, but sit at the bar. They really need to improve their customer service, I don't want to have to beg to order. read more

For my entree I had the shrimp and chorizo over beans, which included plenty of large shrimp and had a great flavor. The fried eggplant appetizer had great texture and it was serviced right out of the fryer, but I'm not the best judge here since eggplant is not my favorite vegetable. Overall I really enjoyed the experience. The only caveat I would share is it is loud/lively inside, which may not appeal to everyone. read more

We called last minute and they were able to squeeze us in which was awesome. We ended up in a corner table next to the window which was even better. The atmosphere is great with low light and soft decorations. Our server was so nice and just the right level of attentive. The food is unbelievable- we had spanikopita and dolmades and hummus and kabob and we were so full! It was great and we will definitely be back. read more

WARNING: Unless you want to eat raw chicken, run, run, run somewhere else to eat. They even undercook pasta in their pasticcio. The nasty chef/owner wants to close down immediately obviously from the way he talks to customers. When I pointed out the raw issue which very well could cause serious illness, he asked me to leave. I was visiting from NY and am indeed a chef, which he told me I wasn't (ha)! He said he "sous vide" the paella! (horrible) Be it in Spain or anywhere else paella is made, it is done on top of the stove and even has a special pan, never BOILED IN A BAG FOR A LONG TIME as he claimed he did. You're not making steamed vegetables for goodness sakes. read more

We made a reservation for Friday night at 6:00 with no problem. I called at 5:00 Friday night to add one more person (going from reservation for 3 to 4) which again was not an issue at all. In fact, the hostess thanked me for calling to request the change. When we arrived, Demi's was not too busy, but by the time we left, it was packed with a wait. The reservation was a good idea! The food was amazing. They serve Mediterranean food, which was mostly Greek with some Italian, Spanish, and Turkish as well. We started off with 2 dips, the eggplant and the htipiti (whipped feta) with pita bread. Both were delicious. Although they did not come with enough pita bread, the waitress was happy to get us more upon request. I ordered the sautéed shrimp and chorizo with white beans and garlic mashed potatoes. Everything was delicious and enough food for leftovers. For dessert, we ordered the Spanish apple tart which came with ice cream. The ice cream was wonderful, but I will probably order a different dessert next time. Overall, we were all very satisfied and I would highly recommend dinner here! read more

I ordered takeout tonight after reading a positive blog post. It did not disappoint!! The dolmades and dried apricot appetizers were spot on!! But I think what will make me want to go back again is the service. Super friendly on the phone when placing my order, but even more friendly in person. Josh, the bartender who apparently deals with the takeout orders was super welcoming and friendly. I will be back!! Would be a great girls night with my mom!! A+++ read more

Ate here last night for the first time and it was a wonderful experience. They have done a superb job with the decor and atmosphere. A great ambiance, very welcoming and tasteful. And the people here were genuinely friendly and welcoming as well. Much more so than most establishments I visit. The food was also exceptional. My companion had the lamb special and said it was among the best she'd ever had and cooked to perfection. I had the moussaka special, and it was the traditional eggplant variety and was delicious. Great eggplant flavor and very "homemade" in all respects (fresh, local, all as you would expect and hope for). We asked the waitress to recommend a wine and it was also very good. Desert was also delicious. Our waitress was excellent. The hostess stopped by to chat and was very personable. My companion and I both agreed it was a wonderful evening and we look forward to returning. This place definitely now on my list of "go to" places. read more

One of my favorite restaurants in Richmond! Sometimes we come here for dinner, other times just for a drink at the bar because we LOVE the atmosphere! Of course, we always end up ordering something to eat anyway. Food is great (keep in mind it may not be for everyone's taste since it IS Mediterranean), staff is amazing, and the overall experience is wonderful. I have had three dinners at Demi's Mediterranean Kitchen and was extremely pleased each time. The appetizers are many and I have tried them all. The sautéed calamari is to die for as are the various mussel dishes and dolmades which I loved. Also tried the oysters fried and baked with spinach and they were fantastic!! Want those again. The entrees are many to choose from. The Adana kabob is the real thing and got high reviews from my Turkish dinner companion. Before returning to New York next week I look forward to at least one more dinner with friends at Demi's. The atmosphere is relaxing and friendly and the service excellent. Highly recommend it. Passing through Virginia and I have to say this kitchen was right on point. Portions are excellent. Flavor is outstanding... if I could recommend one thing to the kitchen; although the grilled octopus taste great it needs to be tenderized a bit more. I'll be sure to recommend this place to friends. At here on a Wednesday night, the restaurant was busy but not crowded and the service was excellent. The food was a combination of Mediterranean cultures. For appetizers my party got the pick four of dipping sauces (tapenade with artichoke and several I can't pronounce/spell). I rounded it out with grilled octopus and mussels in a Turkish Harissa sauce. This is definitely a great addition to Northside, and even if you don't live in the neighborhood it's worth the drive. read more

The Mrs. and I finally got to Demi's last night and it was amazing. So happy we went. The service was perfect even though the place was packed. I had one of the night's specials - a grilled red snapper, whole. The Mrs. asked if they'd remove the head, she's funny that way. I have to say, it was the tastiest fish I've ever had!! She got the pastichio and it was also amazing. I stole a bite, it was rich and creamy and she loved it. We finished with the baklava and tiramasu both of which were beautifully presented and flavorful yet not too sweet. Most places baklava is smothered in honey, I kinda hate that, Demi's baklava lets the nuts shine through. And shouldn't we ALL let the nuts shine through? :) Can't wait to get back and explore the menu more. read more

I had family in from all over the country, so I needed a reservation for 13. I expected to be seated along the wall with tables pushed together but when we arrived, there was a large square table with a gorgeous centerpiece. We could all see each other and talk to each other! The food and drink were good and the prices are very reasonable. Service was welcoming and nice (Patti was our server). Everyone was pleased and I scored a home run for my choice of restaurant. Demi's is a lovely Mediterranean restaurant. Usually when I look at a menu, there are only a few entrees that appeal to me; at Demi's I would have ordered each one. I ended up getting calamari with white beans and arugula. It was tasty, light, and just the right size. My husband got the seafood stew which was good, just keep in mind it's on the spicy side. Very disappointed. I don't get the hype. I preferred Omega. The server was nice but we had to ask for bread and water a few times. The drinks and portions are small ($7 for three dolmades). The artichoke and peas side dish is just a small dish of canned peas and artichokes and wasn't sautéed. The baked Greek spaghetti wasn't baked with anything. I expected cheese as that is how Greek spaghetti is usually prepared. The desserts were the most interesting part of the meal but I wouldn't go back for them. No saganaki on the menu! read more

We love this restaurant! If I could give them 6 stars I would. The staff is kind, relaxed, and helpful. We never feel rushed to order or rushed to finish. The food is always spot on, very high quality, depth of flavor, cooked just right. The owners (husband and wife) have always stopped by our table to see how our food and experience is. The interior is beautifully decorated and meticulously clean. This is a family owned small business and it is obvious that they have put a lot of time, energy, and love into this restaurant. Went to Demi's for the first time tonight. I have heard so many good things about it. As it turns out, it was good, but I was underwhelmed. There was a 40 minute wait, so we ate at the bar and the only name of the server I can see on our receipt is Bar 7. You can't miss him though. He's gorgeous. My husband and I shared an order of sautéed calamari. Served with sun-dried tomatoes, garlic and lemon, the dish was really good. The calamari was tender with very little "chew." For entrees, I had the Shrimp Santorini and he had the Pastichio. Our two friends had the penne pasta with Gorgonzola and peas and the roasted chicken. This is where the restaurant fell a bit short. My friend seemed to enjoy his Gorgonzola pasta. My other friend got his chicken and it was swimming in some kind of creamy sauce, which was not noted on the menu. He is a very healthy eater, and the cream sauce turned him off quite a bit. He most likely would not have ordered it if it had been described that way on the menu. My husband's pastichio was a huge portion and had a lot of flavor but was somewhat dry. It was served with no sauce. My Shrimp Santorini was served drenched in sauce, which I expected because the menu indicated it was served with pasta. It came to the bar and, voila, no pasta. I asked if I could get a Greek salad as a side and was told no, just a house salad. I couldn't quite understand why they couldn't take the house salad, add a bit of feta, a couple of olives, a pepperocini and some Greek dressing. I was willing to pay extra for it. The Yahni (Greek green beans) were perfectly prepared. So, overall, the restaurant was decent and, if anyone asked me if I recommended it, I would say yes. But it can't hold a candle to its former occupant, Omega. Omega offered totally authentic Greek food at a fair price. Demi's offers Greek American food for those who want their Greek food "dumbed down." The highlight of our visit was the service. The bartender couldn't have been more friendly, more attentive, or more helpful. Oh, and in case you missed it the first time, VERY nice on the eyes. read more

2 stars is generous; this was my first experience at the restaurant and last. Items ordered: calamari, "flaming" cheese app, Greek salad and the special of the night paella. Apps were fine, calamari smelled fishy but tasted fine. Greek salad was good. Paella was prepared with cod which was so overwhelmingly fishy it was inedible, cod is not fishy unless it's not fresh. I had to return the dish. The waitress was very apologetic and asked if she could get me anything else after looking at the menu I decided against anything else. About 15-20 minutes later after asking for the check the wife of the owner duo approached the table and asked if I could provide feedback on the paella. I told her it had good flavor but once I tasted the fish it was overly fishy and I didn't feel comfortable eating it. What I thought was an owner with a real interest in solid feedback (others have pointed out the fishy nature of the fish in their reviews) turned into a full on rebuttal, stating she had the same fish for dinner earlier that day from the same cut and had no idea what I was talking about, insisting the fish was fresh and delivered that day. Couple things: she obviously knew why the dish was returned 20 minutes prior and merely came over to refute my opinion. And I wasn't born yesterday... restaurants use the products that are nearing expiration in specials to push them, they just pushed this one a little to far past its edible date. Finally, maybe she did have the fish for dinner, perhaps she got the fresh fish and I received the old. I do not know at any rate it's distasteful to ask for feed back, basically tell the customer they are wrong and then walk away as I'm responding. As others have said far too many other options within a long stride. read more

Demi's has potential but the food is just average. 4 of us arrived on a Tuesday to a mostly empty dining room at 6:30pm. The place is decorated very nicely and has a good ambiance. The waitress was friendly and attentive. We started the evening with 4 appetizers and asked if they were big enough to share and were told yes. The grilled octopus was 3 very small pieces serviced with 8 pieces of pita bread. Had grill flavor but was more like a "slice" of octopus versus whole pieces. The sautee'd calamari - nice portion size but the overwhelming flavor was bland and sweet. The capers/artichokes were overpowered and it did not have the garlic/acid taste you would expect and need. The baked oysters were great and a nice size. The dolmades/feta/peppers/olive plate tasty but no sauce no pita. The waitress recommended the shrimp santorini and it was by far the best dish of the night. Buttery, garlic, feta and perfectly cooked shrimp. The side of pasta was overcooked and the sauce was flavorless. My husband had the pastichio, huge corner portion, he said it was dry and the noodles were chewy. Other two in the party had the same shrimp dish and the swordfish special. I also ordered a cosmo during the course of the evening and it was sickening sweet - tasted like cherry juice versus cranberry. Our meal for 4 with two drinks each was $200.00. There are too many other great greek places in town to go back for mediocre food. We all agreed it felt like each dish was missing a much needed ingredient. Good luck Demi's. We love supporting local businesses, but we will move on to another. read more

We were really looking forward to this new Mediterranean restaurant on MacArthur and we're unfortunately disappointed. We had reservations for three and our third person had not arrived yet. There were a handful of patrons at the bar but the rest of the restaurant was empty. The hostess was apologetic but said their policy was not to seat incomplete parties. The manager came up and said the same thing. I understand if the restaurant was busy but there was no one at any of the tables and we had reservations. Lost opportunity. The decor is very nice and our server was friendly. Prices are reasonable. We had hummus and the artichoke tapenade as an appetizer. Nice presentation and good flavor. Entrees were a mix. Grill rockfish was fishy and had little flavor. Chicken piccata was okay but not great. Artichoke pasta was pretty good. Greek yogurt custard was pretty but grainy and runny. Baklava was dry. Weak coffee, and cheap Tetley tea. On the way out we saw other tables with bread but unfortunately we never received any. Sorry, but the food just wasn't good enough to go back. read more
