Been meaning to try this place and lucky we did because they were just a few days away from turning into a Ramen shop! The service and energy was a little chaotic bc of the changeover happening. They were out of a lot of things we wanted. The karage was good. Moist, plump and nicely fried. The Udon was delicious. Noodles were great and the broth was very clean and flavorful.

Solid spot for udon!! This spot has always popped up on my Yelp search bar so I was excited to finally try it. There were a lot of positive reviews about their oxtail udon, so that was a no brainer to order! My BF and I came in for an early weekend dinner and was met without a wait. It didn't seem to get too busy during the duration of our visit. They have a huge parking lot so that wasn't an issue. The food we tried: + Spicy Oxtail Udon (4/5) (~$26): This was really good! I liked how bouncy the udon noodles were. The oxtail was really tender too. I really enjoyed this but over time I did feel like the broth was reminiscent to a more flavorful "Cup Noodle" broth (still good tho) + Aburi Shime Saba (4/5) ($18): Delicious! They only serve 10 of these a day. The fish tasted fresh and I liked how the skin provided a nice sweet contrast. + Hamachi Carpaccio (4/5) ($18): This was also delicious!! Super good with the ponzu and ikura on top. Service was fast and quick!

I think the food here is delicious. The only dislike I have is the amount they give for the price. I got the Uzumakiya udon (~$18) which comes with oxtail soup, cha shu, bok choy, and lotus root chip. I thought the broth was soo delicious and I love how they used oxtail broth. It's quite unique imo. Chashu was also delicious. I also love that the lotus roots added crunch to the dish. The issue was the portion size. They gave me exactly one leaf of bok choy and like two chashu pieces. I was definitely still hungry afterwards. Other than that, I loved the place and I want to try more of their items. Service was good and fast. No wait time

Oxtail udon soup - very fatty and heavy. Not the traditional udon but it's an interesting dish. The fried lotus pieces give it a good crunch. Chicken kaarage: crispy and comes with a mayo sauce. The spicy one is the same except with the chili powder. Calamari: made with larger tentacles which is unique. Pretty good but smaller portions. Service is good. Ambiance is busy and bustling.

Chicken karaage 4.5/5 - seasoned well, and the chicken is juicy too Uzumakiya udon 4.5/5 - broth was fatty and flavorful. Udon was good too Curry udon 3/5 - yummy, but tasted like curry cubes from the store, so it didn't feel much like a restaurant experience with this dish Uzumakiya Udon Izakaya runs like a quick-service restaurant. They'll slip you the check immediately as you finish your food to make space for the next customers. The food comes out relatively quickly, and my table was seated without any wait during Friday dinner rush.

Whuttt i can't believe i hadnt been here before! It has actually been in my bookmarks for awhile but never got to stop in! I tried to come for lunch once but they were just closing. They lunch time window is a bit small bit their dinner hours are a bit longer. Came here Sat 6pm ish for dinner and it was pretty empty (guessing due to Superbowl weekend). Was very glad no wait. Simple interior with alot of seating space. I ordered the oxtail udon and the saba along with the salad and umami edamame to start. The salad was so fresh and u can tell their washed the leaves. The sauce they put on top is nice too, asian dressing taste. The edamame was cooked well and the umami seasoning was unique and tasty. The oxtail udon was the star for me. First sip and i was like whattt. It is a peppery rich broth but doesnt taste too salty or oily. I loved the fresh bok choy and the fries lotus adds another layer of seasoning flavor. There was also plenty of oxtail fall off the bone meat! 2 big pieces and some chasu like pieces as well. All soft and tasty. The noodles were so bouncy and chewy and nice! Overall the tastiest udon i had for awhile. Def elevated than marugame. The saba was served as a cold fish and it was perfectly cooked and was tasty as well! I like the lemon and radish and little mustard sauce that comes with it. Overall happy i finally found this place and recommend!

I came here with some friends after work. The plaza here has a lot of restaurants and a good size parking lot with spots. This restaurant can be busy. Tried their wa-dashi potato fries, chicken karaage, uzumakiya udon and oxtail udon. The wa-dashi potato fries were good, had bonito flakes on it with seasoning and flavor. The chicken kaarage was good, nothing too exciting but tasted well with their tartar sauce. The two udons are pretty much the same, the uzumakiya udon comes with oxtail broth, beef chashu, lotus root chips, bok choy and mixed onions. The oxtail udon comes with all the items that the uzumakiya has but add in some oxtail meat. The broth had nice umami flavor, which went nicely with the udon and the toppings that came with it. The oxtail meat could have been more tender as some pieces were hard to chew off easily. Portion sizes aren't too big so recommend ordering something additional to the udon. Overall, definitely recommend trying their udons! Never had an udon with oxtail broth before.

Still my favorite place for oxtail udon, in fact, even for just regular udon! It's been 3 years since my last review and I've dined here at least a dozen times since. The quality remains the same albiet the prices have increased slightly. My go-to is still their "oxtail udon" which includes the actual oxtail bone section and tender meat. They also offer the Uzumakiya udon, which uses an oxtail broth but comes with beef chashu instead. The broth is so delicous and flavorful that it's hard not to slurp it up afterwards. I'm sure my sodium levels are through the roof :) Over the summer they added a chilled ikura udon which my friend tried and said was pretty good. I love that their chicken karage is served in a mini fryer basket. While it's still a popular restaurant, it's much easier to get a table now than it was a few years ago. We're usually seated within 5-10 minutes these days. The dining room feels nice and spacious, the staff is always welcoming, and the food comes out fast! Plenty of parking in this neighborhood stripmall!

Went here for a family dinner, it has a nice ambiance, but it wasn't anything that special. My friend hyped it up so maybe I was expecting more, but if you're just looking for a decent udon meal this place will suit you. I'd prefer Marugame though, and it's cheaper too. The karaage was probably the best part, but you can get that anywhere. Dashi fries tasted like they were from frozen, but the dashi and dipping it in the karaage sauce helped. The saba was also pretty good. I got the spicy uzumakiya udon and the broth honestly didn't taste like much. My brother got the oxtail udon which for some reason had a bit of a richer broth, and the oxtail was tender, but I wouldn't say it was worth the extra $9.

First time I came for lunch and second time I came for dinner. The restaurant interior is mid, small, and cozy, so it gets packed quickly but wait time is not long. Service is okay. Came for their noodle and broth and it was good, 4/5 stars. I would pass on their salad, 3/5 stars, as it was very plain tasting with a hefty price. I recommend their fish, as I liked the way they prepared it, 5/5 stars. Price is bit on the pricy side for what you get, but not bad.

Shishito Pepper Tempura

Uzamakiya Udon Izakaya is quickly becoming one of our family's favorite restaurants. We came here on the recommendation of some friends who raved about the seared saba dish, Aburi Shime Saba, which absolutely lives up to the hype and has become a must-order every time we come. They claim on the menu that they only serve ten orders a day though so make sure to get here early in order to try it! Their tempura is excellent, though a quick word of warning, the last time we ordered the shishito peppers we got an incredibly spicy batch that left me and my low spice-tolerance sweating and in pain for almost 10 minutes. They also do an excellent karaage and I can personally vouch for their Karaage Curry Udon as an excellent entree option. All in all this place is great and its only flaw is that it isn't closer to our house!

Spicy Uzumakiya Udon

I haven't posted this review because I'm feeling really conflicted about this restaurant. Go-tos: Spicy Uzumakiya Udon Aburi Shime Saba Food-wise, everything is very good. But if you factor in the price, it's hard to justify. It feels more like eating a bowl of soup with a side of meat rather than a full, balanced meal. Both of these dishes are my favorites and absolute musts every time we come here. I crave this place probably once a week. The soup for the spicy udon gives me Shin Ramen vibes, but not exactly.. it's just so addicting. The broth has specks of fat on top, and it comes with two thin slices of meat (I think brisket?), one piece of bok choy (it used to be two), and fried lotus root slices. I recommend asking for the lotus root on the side because they get soggy really fast since they're sliced thin. The udon noodles aren't thick like frozen store-bought ones, so I think they might make them fresh here. They're chewy and perfectly cooked, though I'm not sure if that's confirmed. The Aburi Shime Saba is also amazing but limited to only 10 servings a day, so grab it if you can. It's lightly seared: somewhere between cooked and not cooked and comes with a mustard dipping sauce that pairs perfectly. The crispy, sugary topping on the mackerel adds a nice contrast. Honestly, it's one of the most unique appetizers I've tried. That said, the price and portion don't quite align. The Aburi Shime Saba is $17.50, and the spicy udon is $15.75 ($16.75 with the spicy add-on). For that, you're getting two thin slices of meat (half of it fat), one piece of bok choy, and a few fried lotus roots. It's definitely delicious, but not the best place if you're looking to leave super full.

Chicken Karaage

My favorite udon spot in the bay! I come here often with family and friends and their service and quality is always on par. The restaurant is small so I usually try to come earlier to make sure I don't have to wait for a table. Our favorites are the spicy uzumakiya udon, tempura udon, and tsuke udon. For apps sometimes we'll get the edamame or the chicken karaage. Their broth is flavorful and rich while their noodles are just right, with the perfect chew. Perfect meal for a cold winter day. Can't wait to be back!

Is indoor dining available for lunch during the week?

indoor dining for now is dinner time monday-friday. sat and sun is all day. there is however lunch dine in on weekdays if it's a holiday, which was this past veterans day

Does your udon contain egg?

Best to contact the restaurant. As far as I know, udon is not generally an egg noodle. But recipes for noodles vary.

Is there out door dinning?

No, just picked up from behind the building.

Is there outdoor seating now with the County reopening?

No, it's just a parking lot for cars...

Is the food nut free? I saw that the ebi udon bowl had some peanut oil so wanted to make sure the rest of the food wasn't cooked with peanut oil. Thanks!

The ebi udon was a seasonal one. The regular udon don’t have peanuts.

This is the first time I've felt compelled to leave a negative review because this experience was…read moregenuinely disappointing. Hironori has always been one of my family's favorite ramen restaurants. I've visited almost every Hironori location in the Bay Area, and I've consistently been impressed by both the food and the service. That's exactly why this visit was so disappointing. There were three people in our party. Two of us had already arrived, and the third person had already parked the car and was literally on the way into the restaurant. We were ready to sit down and place our order when a male employee at the front, wearing a hat and sporting a beard, informed us that we could only order for the two people who were physically present and could not place an order for the third guest. If this is company policy, I can absolutely understand that. Ramen quality can be affected if it sits for too long before being served, and preserving food quality is a reasonable goal. However, my issue was never with the policy itself. My issue was with the way it was communicated. Throughout the entire conversation, the only explanation we received was: "It's company policy." There was no attempt to explain the reason behind the rule, no effort to help us understand the restaurant's perspective, and no willingness to engage in a simple conversation. What made this even more frustrating was that the restaurant was nearly empty at the time. There were only about three occupied tables, no waitlist, and no line at the door. We were not trying to abuse the system or hold a table unnecessarily. Our third guest was literally moments away from entering the restaurant. I also find the policy itself questionable in practice. For example, what if I come in alone and want to order two bowls of ramen? Or what if I want to order an additional bowl to go? Would I need to bring another person just to place that order? If the answer is no, then it suggests that the "everyone must be present before ordering" rule is not as clear-cut or well thought out as it is being enforced. Again, I understand that policies exist for a reason. But in the hospitality industry, good service means helping guests understand those reasons--not simply repeating "it's company policy" as if that ends the conversation. Had the employee simply said something like: "Because ramen quality can suffer if it sits too long, our policy is to wait until all guests have arrived before placing orders. We appreciate your understanding." I would have completely understood, and there would have been no issue at all. Instead, the interaction felt cold, dismissive, and lacking even the most basic level of hospitality. In fact, I was initially prepared to stay and eat anyway. However, after remembering that this location automatically charges a 16% gratuity, I decided to leave. Quite frankly, I did not feel that the service I received that day justified any gratuity whatsoever. I still have complete confidence in Hironori's food and continue to believe that it serves some of the best ramen in the Bay Area. However, great food alone is not enough. A great restaurant should also make its guests feel respected and valued. I sincerely hope management will review the training provided to front-of-house staff, particularly regarding communication skills and guest interaction. If I return to this location in the future and am greeted by the same employee, I will not hesitate to leave and visit another Hironori location instead.

There looked like another line out the door but I dropped off the wife and looked for a parking spot, when I got to the restaurant there was only a short wait. Once seated everything was fast and efficient. There was only one guy in the front kitchen handling the ramen orders but he was a champ making it look easy. I was hungry and wanted to order a bunch of food but realized that we don't have a frig for leftovers so we only got Yuzu Ramen, Chicken Karrage bowl, and Shrimp tempura roll...oh and some drinks too! The rice bowl is filing and the chicken had a crispy outside and the meat juicy. The Yuzu ramen was good but the amount of soy used didn't let the Yuzu come through and gave it a sour aftertaste almost vinegar taste. The shrimp tempura roll was a "basic" crunch roll light and crispy but a bit over priced IMO. Overall experience was good but will need to come back to try the other Ramen dishes to give it a proper food review.
