We first heard about Mr. Kim from our son in laws family who have been taking their cars there for years. Sounded too good to be true, but once our cars went out of warranty and we needed service we went there. What a pleasant surprise, great service, explained what was needed and how long it would take. Pricing has always been fair, far more reasonable that dealers and other shops. We have the greatest confidence in the work performed, they will fix only what needs to be fixed, will you tell if there are marginal issues and advise a cost. There are several other shops closer to to our home but we will gladly drive the four or five miles to this shop. read more

Mr. Kim has serviced my elderly mother's car for many years (2005 to 2022). He has always REPAIRED ONLY WHAT WAS NECESSARY, and, unlike some repair shops, never took advantage of her advanced age and diminished acuity. He took care of her car as if it were his own mother's, and, his prices were/are more than fair. Mom recently passed away, so we traveled from NY to IL to start settling her affairs. While visiting, our own car malfunctioned and would not start. We had it towed to Dempster Auto Service. There were a couple of much more expensive "fixes" for the same "symptoms," but Mr. Kim and his assistant tried the LEAST EXPENSIVE OPTION FIRST. Before everyone says why a one star read my review. My warranty just ran out on my car so I was looking for a mechanic I could use for general maintenance and other things. I read all these great reviews about I come here all the time for oil changes and that Mr. Kim takes care of you. Anyways I called saying I pull be there in 2 days to check the problem with my ac not working the person says ok come on by. I get there after work and explain everything to him and he doesn't even bother checking anything on the car. He tells me maybe you need more ac coolant. I told him I tried that and nothing. He then tells me come back on Monday and then we can do something. Please keep in mind we're talking about this in the front desk. Couldn't give me 15 minutes of his time. What a waste of time I don't know what everyone is talking about this place being so great I'll never come here again. read more

I am updating my review that I wrote in 2013 (which is below and was 5 stars then). Dempster Auto Service is STILL 5 stars and the nicest, most knowledgeable and fast place to bring your car for ANY service. Mr. Kim has helped me and my mom when she has visited from Roscoe, IL and her car had a few problems. I did not want her driving all the way home wondering if the car was OK and Mr. Kim checked it and fixed it for her and assured us it was OK. Dempster Auto Service is easy to find, easy to pull in and park and easy to work with Mr. Kim. Please try it out, I promise you won't be disappointed. 2013: This is a nice little gem of a place. Mr. Kim is super nice and friendly, always smiling and very fair! Dempster Auto Service is not looking to nickle and dime you but to only give you the facts and fix your vehicle at a decent price. My 5 Stars Review: A couple of months ago I shopped around to find the best deal for Tune-up work to do on my 2006 Lincoln LS. When I called this shop for estimate Mr. Kim gave me the best price in town. He is very attentive and knowledgeable. He has good experienced mechanics who took care of my car doing their job in professional manner. I took my car to Ozark Shell to replace the charcoal canister. They messed it up. Engine Check Light stayed on. I stopped by Advanced Auto Parts to pick up something and spoke to one of the workers there. He told me I should try Mr. Kim. He is honest and charges a fair price. I thought for a week and decided to give a try. Mr. Kim is good. He found out that the other shop connected the hoses incorrectly. He said that smog test may not be needed. no stars for this business. Owner is a Scammer!!! I brought my car for repair and he told me that is not worth to repair due to my car is old. I asked him to repair it anyway. He lied that he could not, he junked it. Couple of days later, I saw my car drove by one of the staff in the Dempster Auto Service. I stopped by the Dempster Auto Service and complained about it. They admitted that they lied, but car can not be returned due to that they sold it to someone else. When I shared my story to my friend who had the same issues. Learned about Dempster Auto Service from my next door neighbor who had been going there for several years. I drive a 2001 Acura TL and I've literally had ALL my auto repair work done at this shop (replaced my transmission, timing belt, new tires, brakes, and all oil changes). Mr. Kim, the owner, is very honest. I've been going to him long enough to know that he doesn't come up with unnecessary fixes to make money off his customers. Everything he has done on my car done operates well. All of his customers appear to be returning customers, and his shop is always jam packed, I think this attests to the fact that he does quality work and a good price. We were on our way to a wedding in Wisconsin and needed an emergency repair. We stopped in this little shop and were treated unbelievably well. They took a look at the car, fixed it right away, and we were back on the road in 30 minutes. They didn't even want to charge us! Amazing. I don't know why I waited so long to stop in. Embarrassingly, I thought from all the Korean signage that only Koreans were welcome there, but I couldn't have been more wrong. When my car battery went weak, I drove in on the recommendation of a friend and neighbor (we live just blocks from this shop), and I received the most inviting welcome. The manager Dennis diagnosed and fixed the problem within 15 minutes and then changed the oil for way cheaper and quicker than any other branded oil lube shop has ever done!
