Just started getting into denim and was gifted a pair of slightly large Japanese selvedge. Didn't need hemming but I wanted the waist tapered so I gave this spot a shot since I saw great reviews. Parking here was easy but was kinda lost since there is no outdoor sign. Had to give them a call just to make sure but once I was inside, it was an amazing experience with tons of vintage denim to browse. These guys are WIZARDS! I came in with 4 brand new Levi's, including 1 pair that I had gone and gotten altered at another place and they completely butchered them (pic attached, that place charged me $65 for this monstrosity). The denim guys immediately told me what I already thought and it was that my altered jeans were not supposed to look like that AT ALL. About 1.5 weeks later and they were completely transformed. Quoted $80 for 4 rivets, a button, and a buttonhole to be added to my denim. In all fairness, this was by the two employees at the front and not who I presume to be the owner, as he was unavailable. I left to the fashion district - which is only about 15 minutes away - and got the button hardware piece, the buttonhole made, and button installed for $16. In addition, I got another 10 buttons and rivet pack for my own use for only about $10. For any small or beginner designer, I would not recommend the price point that I was quoted for hardware installation ($10 per rivet installed and 40$ for a button and buttonhole to be installed). I am not speaking to the quality of their work as I do not know it or have any experience with it, simply sharing my opinion. Get a hammer and do it at home, or take it to the fashion district for the button and buttonhole. read more

Bought these Rock Revival jeans about 4-5 years ago, and the crotch area was beyond ruined. Brought my brand new pants for a taper and supposed to be completed with in 2 weeks. 2 weeks past when i reached out I was told that they were behind to check back with in a week. 1month and week later when I checked back in I was told they could not find my pants. They offered to replace the pants but it was already sold out instead i asked for refund for the cost of the pants and taper! Granted they refund me the cost. They need to do better on keeping track of the pants that are being serviced and Be proactive on reaching out to customers instead of customer doing all the follow up! I used Denim Dr in the past and they did great work. This last time I used them to repair a denim jacket and a pair of RRL jeans. I needed holes in the jeans repaired and one button replaced for the fly. They replaced all the original buttons on the jeans and left the one I needed replaced empty. I was told they would track down the correct buttons and send them to me and that never happened AND there's still a hole in my jeans that they didn't fix. I sent them a text asking for half of my money back since they didn't fix what I paid them to fix and they've completely ghosted me. I paid $190 for a service that clearly wasn't done correctly and I've heard nothing back. I'm a small business owner myself and I know that sometimes I make mistakes, but the difference between a good business and a bad one is accountability with your customers. read more

My gosh! Talk about life savers . I took my designer BIRTHDAY jeans to a regular tailor to fix the back and they ruined my jeans so bad to the point I couldn't even fit them anymore. I came across denim doctor online and went inside the store desperate!!! I bought a pair of iron hearts that were too small in the waist. I worked with Z and came up with a solution - basically putting small triangles on the sides and expanding the waistband all using the excess denim from the hemmed bottom. I had a terrible experience at this denim tailor that ruined my favorite pair of vintage orange tab Levis, which hold a lot of sentimental value for me and cannot be replaced. When I approached them for a simple reinforcement, I expected professionalism. Instead, I was met with a smug attitude from the counter girl, Gillian who seemed completely unbothered by their mistake. After they messed up my jeans, I received a text message from her stating, "We see a lot of jeans so it's difficult for us to remember specifically your hole and the way you need it to be..." Are you kidding me? You charged me $100 for a service, and you can't even remember the specifics of what we discussed when I dropped them off? This is unacceptable, rude and unprofessional service, I def don't recommend this place to anyone. read more

Yes they do Chinos! I have a pair of chinos in a monochromatic khaki camo color, not made anymore and haven't seen anything else like them. Needless to say when they tore at the knee I knew I had to save them. Denim Doctors was easily reachable by text and turned around the repair in about a week and also mailed them back as well. While darning is never truly invisible, they did a good job matching the thread color and touched up a few other fraying ends. Looking forward to getting another couple years out of them. read more

When it comes to alterations and repairs though, Zip and his team are miracle workers. I came in with three pairs of pants that I wanted shortened and and hemmed. He was happy to help me out and also managed to spot that one pair needed some reinforcement of the fabric because it was close to ripping. After making the alterations, the hemming was so impressive that besides the shortening of the jeans (which I wanted), the pants looked completely unaltered. Inflation is a bitch. Not the good kind of bitch. The kind of bitch who steals your man and moves into your house. Then she lives off the alimony that you get sued for. That Inflation needs to get curb stomped, but the way it's been going, the only one bitch getting her shit rocked is yours truly. The last time I had to have jeans hemmed, I went to an amazing tailor in Koreatown, but her ADHD is on FIRE, and one week became three weeks and several trips through traffic to Koreatown from WLA. Afterward, I vowed never to return because I just couldn't waste so much time. Fast forward a few years later, and I have purchased four new pairs of 7 For All Mankind jeans, and they need a special touch by a pro. I walked in on a Monday without an appointment (fyi, they're all by appointment now - call ahead), and luckily, there wasn't anyone inside. Here's what I learned - they no longer do original hems. They now treat it chemically and with other processes and they no longer make the chop job that original hem often requires. The problem is that, depending on your wash, it doesn't come cheap. Two pairs of jeans were $75 each, and two others were $45 each. I also needed to let out three pairs of 7 For All Mankind jeans as well, and those were $55 each. A whopping total of $390, and it all needed to be paid upfront. See why I prefaced this review talking about inflation? I wasn't exaggerating, was I? Hot damn. I got a text later being told that they needed another $150 to finish the job. $540 for seven pairs of jeans. Man. I received my hem jobs back and they were done very well I received my other three pairs that were let out and they were done well. Overall, I'm happy but fucking broke. I need to learn now to do this myself. I could have bought more than three pairs of brand new 7s for what I spent on alterations. Yikes. read more

Best place to go for original hem denim alterations. No comparison to be honest as Ive tried quite a few. I got lucky and got my jeans back in 1 day, but I think that's pretty rare. I think its typically around 3 or 4 days for a hem. Still a lot faster than other places where Ive waited 1 to 2 weeks. read more

I've never been so disappointed in both in customer service and craftsmanship. My husband and I dropped off three pairs of jeans to be hemmed, two hems were supposed to be aged. No one was there to fit us, take any measurements or provide any advice on hemming. The two employees clearly knew nothing about denim. We were notified the jeans were ready and when I went to pick up the 3 pairs, 2 were not aged, despite the tags clearly saying "aged". They said I could come back at the end of the day and the jeans would be ready. I called back an hour later to ask them to text me when the jeans were in, never heard back. We went back the following week assuming they would be ready. They couldn't find them and said they must have been sent out to be aged. We left and 10 minutes later they found them. The aging was appalling. I used to own a denim brand and have never seen such poor work. It's clear they dipped the hems in bleach or another solution that yellowed the denim, and no roping was achieved. My black jeans looked like they were bleached and sharpied. They used optic white thread on off white jeans. Only one employee attempted to be remotely helpful, but then suggested we could fix the lack of roping with a grey sharpie. They only refunded us for 2 pairs despite ruining $600 worth of denim. If you care about jeans at all do not take your jeans here. read more
