This review is for Dr.Koo who does my teeth cleanings twice a year! I've seen Dr.Koo a few times now. My entire family goes to this office for any kinds of dental work. They continue to take covid precautions which is great. Their appointments get booked up very quickly, so if you're considering trying it out, be sure to go schedule ASAP! I think the doctor is good when performing surgical operations, but the office admin is cleary understaffed. There are quite a few issues with the admin being nurse who has to attend multiple duties in a busy office. It took multiple calls to get issues resolved, and often I have to call again because the office did not respond to the overnight voicemails. All in all, my issues got resolve in the end, but I do highly recommend this office to improve its customer service quality. read more

They said they can't refund me until billing lady's back in Nov. However, they immediately issued a refund to me after I filed a complaint through dental board of California. To my surprise, I only got partial refund and the payment I made after refund is more than EOB. I called and was told they only refund the amount that insurance company paid them. In order to prevent other patients from being a victim, I decided to take legal action to stop their illegal business. For those who still go to this doctor: 1) don't pay any upfront fee. It's illegal to take upfront payment. For my case, they charge me $$$ two months before the actual service started. 2) It's illegal not to file a claim after service. They didn't file a claim until I check with them 4 months after service. 3) Don't pay more than EOB's patient responsibility. It's illegal to charge more. The contracts that dentist sign with insurers in order to be included in a plan's provider network include "hold harmless" provisions that prohibit doctors from charging members more than a copayment or other specified cost-sharing amount for services that are covered. I've already spent hours on this refund process and I decided to spent more time getting them out of this illegal business! read more

I had an implants consultation that set me back $186. I honestly don't have a big concern about that fee, but the work and attitude from both the staff and dentist was all about "money business" and didn't bother to take care of customers, didn't take any panaromic x-rays as most dentist would, just talking and taking some photos with digital camera. The estimate I got was a sticker shock, and it didn't even include the crown. So I got a second opinion with a different dentist and they did a panaromic x-rays during my consultation visit for a much reasonable fee. And the estimate is a lot more reasonable, too. I'm glad I went for second opinion, so should you especially if you are in for dental implants. I also found out that they don't bother to inform me as a potential patient what is covered by insurance. To me, that is a tell tell sign of what they are really after -$$$ read more

I have been going to this dental office for years for dental cleanings. Before Dr. Chen, I had gone to several different offices, but felt like a piece of the machine in the other places. I felt like other offices try to get me in and out for a turnover. But not at Dr. Chen's office. At Dr. Chen's office, the staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and gentle. They are very aware if they hit a sensitive spot in my mouth and take a lot of time with my cleanings. The reception is extremely friendly and I always feel very welcome going in. The atmosphere is very comfortable and I never feel hurried. I will continue to be a patient of Dr. Chen's office as he is extremely skilled at what he does and employs staff of similar caliber. read more

Friendly staff and great dental work that was pain free. I came in for an appointment and my procedure was explained clearly by Dr. Chen. My teeth and gums have not been better and I was pain/bleeding free after the visit (I have gums that frequently bleed and swell). For this reason, I am usually not fond of going to the dentist, but Dr. Chen and his staff made my trip convenient and hassle-free. I am now a repeat patient after trying out many different dentists in the area. The office is clean, well run, and the dentists are highly knowledgeable. I recommend this office highly. read more

I went to Dr. Chen for a consult today regarding a possible extraction of one of my tooth followed by Implant. My husband had gone to him years ago, and have had several implants done by him. This is my first visit with Dr. Chen. I had sent him the X-rays taken by my primary dentist, who had referred me to him. He took time to thoroughly explain my case to me with my X-rays, and using other prior examples, explain the procedure that he plan to do to my teeth. Since the tooth had a minor crack and an infection under the root canal, he suggested removing the tooth, clean out the infection, close it up and let it heal for 2 months. Then come back for an implant with bone graft to pack the tooth. Wait for 6 months, and go back to my dentist for the abutment and crown. I found his explanation makes sense, and I appreciate his patience in taking time to explain it. read more

I had to go in for a crown lengthening on the farthest back molar on the top right-hand side. It was a very difficult area to reach, and with my sensitive gag reflex, I didn't envy the doctor's task. After being made comfortable, the staff went through a process of sanitizing my face for the procedure -- they were cutting into gum tissue and bone after all, so it was nice that being sanitary was their first priority. My face was washed with iodine, and I was given a q-tip to scratch any itches on my face post sterilization. After they shot the top of my mouth full of sweet, sweet novocain, they gave me some magazines to read while it took hold and killed any sensation in that part of my mouth. I normally listen to music during procedures, and I prefer Smashing Pumpkins because the sound of dental drills go well with Billy Corgan's voice. I didn't even make it to my favorite song on the album Siamese Dream, "Soma," because the doctor was so efficient with his time. The hole in my mouth was stitched up, cleaned, and they gave me some motrin and an ice pack for the pain. They then called ahead to my Kaiser pharmacy so the amoxicillin and the mouthwash would be waiting for me! Getting the amoxicillin, I thought everything would be great. Turns out the amoxicillin killed off the good bacteria in my body and gave me a severe bacterial infection. When I told Dr. Chen this at my follow-up appointment -- everything is healing great! -- he apologized profusely for inadvertently giving me violent diarrhea. That kind of kindness is sorely lacking in the medical community. I'd recommend Dr. Chen for any dental surgery you may need! read more

Horrible experience, they lied to me about the insurance that they accept and I ended up footing the entire bill because my insurance company refused to pay since they weren't on the list. I was also told that they are over charging for the exam that was preformed. I also got 2 and 3rd opinions from other respected periodontists who charged much less and that the quote I was given was outrageously high. When I went to get a copy of my records, the receptionist completely lied to me saying that they were not allowed to give them out. I had to wave down another employee that was walking to have her tell the receptionist give me a copy of my own records. I created an account just to make sure no one else ever makes the mistake of going to this place. read more

I think This doctor is too business minded. I was referred to him for consultation and he moved on to exam my teeth to extract more fees either from the insurance or me. Certainly, my insurance won't pay for the re-exam since my dentist has just checked on it and billed the insurance. So I ended up have to pay for the unneeded re-exam fee by myself. Dr. Dennis Chen has been my dentist since 2016 and my problems were always well taken care of. In the first year of the pandemic, all clinics were closed and I happened to have an infection. Thanks to Kate, I was very lucky to have an appointment and Dr. Chen thoroughly explained to me all the options. The treatment requires several visits within six months. Each time before the visit, I received courtesy calls from Kate to make sure I was well prepared and followed Covid-19 regulations. During the treatment, Dr. Chen made sure I'm comfortable and have Kate demonstrate how to clean and care surgery wound. I noticed some reviews complaining about billing. From my experiences, Kate always gave me the details and the amount I need to pay out of pocket after insurance coverage. I also noticed billing became more erratic in other medical claims (but not Dr. Chen's) probably because of many things changed during pandemic. It's a difficult time for everyone and I really appreciated that Dr. Chen and his staffs took lots of risks to make sure their patients are safe and well cared for. For more than 25 years Dr. Dennis Chen has been my periodontics. I go to his office three times a year for cleaning and my teeth have never had any major problems during this time. Last year, I took his suggestion to do two tooth implants. Dr. Chen and his staff gave me very detailed explanations before each surgery so I would know exactly what to expect. During the procedures I didn't feel any pain and afterward the staff always contacted me to make sure I was doing fine. The tooth implants started last November and were completed 3 weeks ago. Now I have a full set of teeth with which to properly enjoy my food. Throughout the entire process I felt that Dr. Chen and his staff were concerned about my health and well-being. Dr. Chen also introduced me to an excellent dentist (Dr. Windsor Wu) when it came time for me to have a crown done. I went to many different consultants for an implant but i felt most comfortable with Dr. Chen's office. l had gum disease and I had boneloss, which is why I lost my tooth so I had to get a surgery implant a tooth replacement. My second time here. Half the staff was nice the others seemed very robotic. Always late at least 20 minutes. Dr. chen knows his job but is not gentle, yanked my head, pulled my mouth back and forth. Shots which i can take were done with no gentleness of any kind. What he is good at is telling you off for having terrible teeth. i've been coming here for dental cleaning for the past 15 years or so. they do a thorough good job, and the office is always very clean and hyper-hygienic. i feel safe and well cared for coming here knowing Dr. Chen demand things to be very clean and hygienic to avoid any contamination or infection. I pay for my cleaning out of pocket. the charge has been the same for 15 years. i feel that the fee for the great cleaning is a good value. they also do a good job teaching you how to floss and brush correctly to clean without hurting your gum. i learned it here unlike what i've learned before. totally recommend this office. read more

When I was referred by my dentist to do a gum reduction, I was completely terrified. I wasn't sure if I should go ahead with this operation or not. The day after I called Dr. Chen office, and was welcomed with a very friendly grating and supportive staff. They were able to schedule an appointment that is aligned with my crazy schedule. When I arrived to the dentist office, again, I got a great warm welcome and assurance that I shouldn't worry. That helped my blood pressure drop from 150/100 to 120/80. The operation itself was well explained and well done executed (A+). It was pain less and the recovery was very fast. The follow up meetings were very educational. Finally I got clear explanation on how I should treat my teeth. As weird as it sounds, I'm thinking about the dentist assistant every night and every morning when I brush my teeth. BTW, she is also very cute. The best part of the visit is that you get chocolate at the end!!! Ironic, isn't it? Strongly recommend! I got 2 gum graft surgeries done at Dr. Chen's office to prevent/treat further gingival recession. The first one was performed at the end of May and the other one early October this year. I was VERY impressed by the results and the amount of care I received in both cases! Both procedures took a little more than 1 hour, and I was able to drive home right after with a cute little kit (advil, antiseptic solutions, and detailed post-surgerical instructions about proper dental care and what to expect!) The nurse was even kind enough to call my desired pharmacy so that I can pick up my oral rinse solution and antibiotics on my way home! From the consultation to the follow-up visits and even follow-up telephone call, I received SUPERIOR care. Both the staff and Dr. Chen are extremely courteous, patient, helpful, knowledgeable, and understanding! The whole office and equipment are all very clean and well-maintained! I would highly recommend Dr. Chen to everyone and anyone! I couldn't have asked for better customer care and service. :) read more
