I came to Dr. Cheng with the intention of fixing a lower mandibular misalignment that had been causing issues with chewing, and the alignment of teeth even after traditional orthognathic solutions (i.e., braces/invisalign). After deliberation with Dr. Cheng and his team, I was recommended a BSSO and genioplasty. His team worked diligently to prepare for the procedure, and the day of the procedure went smoothly. Post surgery was no issue as the team and parties involved assisted where they could. Post surgery complications were not an issue. My son had his wisdom two teeth removed at this office. BEWARE: the office inform me my insurance would cover 80% in network with Metlife dental insurance. This office asked me to pay $1336.00 first and my insurance will cover the rest. This office knew that my insurance is out of network and my insurance will not pay 80%. But this office were scammers so they wanted my son be a patient then after the treatment to my son they ask me to pay more $1126.35. If we don't pay for them then they will send my son's bill to Agency Collection to collect money. Because we don't want my son have bad credit so we paid them more $1126.35. It went from $1336 estimate to $2462.35 out of pocket expenses. So we paid total $1336+1126.35= $$2462.35 for removed two wisdom teeth. Extremely unsatisfied with this dental office. I had 2 implants with Dr. Cheng. They got infected after only a few months and needed to be removed. Dr Cheng wanted me to pay for the removal. After I filed a complaint with the Dental Board, he agreed to do the removal for free. After the removal, he refused to put the new implants saying that the risk of another failure would be high. He also refused to refund me. The overal rate of success is more than 95%. He did 2 implants and both needed to be removed after a short time and even wanted the patient to pay for the removal. I think he is unethical and I doubt his skill. read more

Why the bad review? Their billing department is horrible!! The lady in charge of billing is very rude. If you ask questions about the charges in your account she gets annoyed. I had a phenomenal experience with Dr. Cheng. I visited my dentist a week prior complaining of pain from a wisdom tooth I waited a week for a referral & the dentist kept delaying. I called four different offices on my own until I finally found Dr. Cheng. At this point I was in so much pain I wasn't sleeping. When I called they were able to make a consultation and extraction appointment for the following morning. Dr. Cheng explained everything to me. Front desk staff is phenomenal. Cost & procedure was explained upfront. My tooth was very infected, so I thought I might have more pain than a "normal" wisdom tooth extraction recovery. The swelling actually went down the same day I had the surgery. It's been a week since surgery & I haven't had ANY pain. I followed the post-op instructions and stayed ahead of the pain with ibuprofen, but I really can't believe I experienced no pain since my surgery. Dr. Cheng and his staff are really good, from the experience that I had. I was recommended for a tooth extraction from my regular dentist, Dr.Karen Ho, and came in for a consult and then the extraction. The consult was really thorough and good. I had some health concerns around the timing of the tooth being taken out and Dr.Cheng and his staff were more than accommodating and very helpful to me about my situation. I have severe dental anxiety when it comes to the day of a procedure, and I was relieved to have the option of being put asleep to skip the stress I would have. I had some reservations about being put asleep if they used the gas, but they are fancy and have a fun medicine in an IV bag that puts you to sleep and keeps you asleep during the entire procedure. I am so blissful that I have ZERO memories of anything. The recovery was great too. I followed the very clearly written instructions for what to do and had minimal swelling and almost no pain at all. I requested the office give me information about the costs in advance to committing to the appointment and they were very clear about what I had to pay vs what my insurance would cover. The location of the office is convenient too. It is right past the corner of Forest Ave and Bascom Ave, and they have two levels of parking. I found the second level to be free of cars mostly, but its a narrow kind of nervous fit to get your car up the ramp to the second level. And the elevator seemed to be taking forever to almost not working when I came in from that level. The second time I came I parked below and took the elevator to the third floor with no issue. Dr.Cheng is a gentle man, with a very big support staff team, and they know what they are doing. I think he is used to his routine of doing things, but he is friendly and sweet if you engage him in dialog with your concerns and questions. read more

1st time I came here I waited over an hr to be seen by Dr Cheng. I had to cancel an office meeting because of this delay. When the Dr entered he didn't say "hi" or anything. Just dove right into the case and 20 mins later and approx $200 (deposit) later we scheduled for the surgery (remove wisdom teeth). You're not allowed to eat past midnight for the surgery which was fine since it was scheduled for 10 AM. They called me the day before and said it'll be at 11. Now I'm sitting here in the room waiting and have been waiting for over an hr. It's 12 noon, and still no Dr. I'm starving, no coffee, and wasted an hr in the waiting room. 20 mins ago the receptionist said that they are "making the room ready". I can't imagine it taking this long. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. No consideration for people's time. Time is money people!!! read more

Dr. Brian Cheng is a highly skilled and caring oral surgeon. One of my children had class 3 malocclusion and just underwent a jaw surgery. Dr. Cheng performed the surgery perfectly. We are totally amazed by the results. I highly recommend Dr. Brian Cheng for corrective jaw surgery. My child saw Dr. Cheng for the initial consultation at age 12 when it was clear the class 3 malocclusion could only be corrected by jaw surgery. During the consultations and follow-up checkups, Dr. Cheng clearly explained how the jaw surgery would be performed; pre-surgery and post-surgery orthodontic treatment; and the benefits, risks, costs, and best time for the surgery. He coordinated with the orthodontist to ensure the teeth were properly moved for the surgery. My child had to wait several years for the best time of surgery. Dr. Cheng was very patient and supportive when my child became impatient. He even called and carefully explained the pros and cons for having the surgery done early. The surgery was done in O'Connor Hospital. Dr. Cheng performed the surgery successfully. Everything went exactly as planned. My child spent a night at the hospital. The nurses at O'Connor were very caring and professional. They took good care of my child. Since the surgery took place during the COVID pandemic, both Dr. Cheng's office and O'Connor took many measures to protect the patients and the medical staff. We felt very safe. After the surgery, we could call Dr. Cheng's office any time we had a question. There were quite a few office visits after the surgery to make sure the recovery was on track. All the assistants are very helpful and knowledgeable. My child recovered much faster than we expected. The swelling was almost gone in a month. Now my child's face has very nice contours, looking natural and beautiful. Dr. Cheng's superb surgery changed my child's life overnight. Although you may have fear and anxiety about the surgery, you can trust Dr. Cheng. The patient handbook provided by Dr. Cheng contains everything we need to know before and after the surgery. The medical staffs are very knowledgeable and friendly. My one star review is for the finance/insurance lady. I went there for a wisdom teeth removal consultation.They tried to collect more than they should with bad attitude. Also they said different things on the phone and in person for the payment. Before I went, I called several times and finally found the lady and got the answer that it will be $150 for consultation but with insurance I just need to pay $25. Before I went, I called Aetna and know that I need to pay 20% for out of network wisdom teeth removal surgery. Then the consultation went well. I was almost certain that I will go there. Then another lady came in to explain the insurance and quote for me. She quote me $1900ish and said I need to pay 50%. I asked her that since I am out of network, I should pay 20%, not 50%. She said since we are out of network, you need to pay 50%. I asked her that didn't she check with my insurance first? She said she did, but insisted that I need to pay 50%. On top of that, she said the consultation is 151, instead of 150 dollars and I need to pay 50% of that too. I was very upset. Obviously the lady did not check my insurance. Even worse, she could have checked and still requested me to pay 50%. Even though she said that she will return money if insurance pay up, but why should I bother with so much trouble. Especially the wisdom teeth is 1900 ish. it's a lot of money!! And her attitude is very mean. She forgot that I am a customer and I also did my homework and checked with insurance before I went. At the end, I told her I am very concerned about the way she collects the payment for copay and I am worried I will have same trouble for the surgery. Especially on the call, they told me I only need to pay $25 but I ended up need to pay much more than that. So how can I trust their words? I did not go to them for surgery because I did not want to go through the same traumatizing experience. I am a paying customer following the insurance rule. I am not obliged to pay more than I should at front and certainly did not deserve her attitude. I went to Kifer Dental Park and got my wisdom teeth removed by Dr Lin. $200 ish for one teeth and since they are in network, I only paid copay plus 10%, which is about $40ish. He did a great job. Dr. Brian Chen helped me to remove two wisdom teeth on the left side. The whole process was very smooth and I didn't need to take any pain-releasing medicines like hydrocaod/acetam or ibuprofen etcs. Found this place from a list that my insurance provided. My initial visit was with Dr. Cheng. She was very nice and so was the staff. I had a tooth that needed to be extracted so she referred me to Oral Surgeon. The surgeons office called this place to request my Xrays a few days before my appointment, when I arrived for the appointment I found that they had not been received. The woman at the new office called this place again before I arrived, but to no avail. Finally, they received 'Evelyn's' Xrays??!!! I'm NOT Evelyn. My surgeon's office ended up taking their own Xrays and were kind enough not to charge me. A few days later I called this place back regarding a different tooth that Dr. Cheng said I needed a root canal on. The woman said that Santana was on vacation (??) so I guess that meant I needed to wait (what the heck?) I asked if the other dentist could look at my Xrays and call me back....guess what? I'm still waiting for the call! Needless to say I won't be going back here. read more

I just had my wisdom tooth extraction, a tooth next to it and bone graft last Friday from Dr. Cheng. My procedure went SO SMOOTHLY, I barely had any pain. It's almost a week but there was no sign of infections, no bleeding after 2 hours , no headache and the area healed very well. I took only one pain pill and that was it. I didn't even need a second one since there was NO PAIN. The best thing is the procedure took only less than an hour for everything. The day of my procedure, I walked in and was greeted by him and his nice staff, got sedated, fell asleep, woke up, sat down for a few minutes and went home. Dr. Cheng uses IV general anesthesia for all wisdom teeth procedures.When I first step in the operation room, I was so impressed. It's not a normal dental clinic, it's a place where all the nice, warm, caring and professional team got together and worked on my tooth. Dr. Cheng is an expert with both dental and medical degrees. Wisdom teeth extraction. Would recommend Dr. Cheng to friend. Scheduling: The staff was friendly and very accommodating, even with my inflexible work schedule (as a medical student)! They got me in the next day.... granted my wisdom teeth were coming out fast and angry. Surgery: Dr. Cheng and the nurse did a fantastic job! Understanding, good bedside manner, great technique (I was awake under local, even though general was recommended), and they kept me in the loop of what they were doing as they went and what I was about to feel, etc. I felt comfortable and confident in their work the whole operation. Responsiveness: I already had an inflamed/infected gum and once the local wore off, was in severe pain even with medication. Called the office in tears and they responded very caringly and quickly to improve my situation. After 8 hours post-op, I was pretty peachy for the rest of my recovery following the instructions they provided. Follow-up: Easy scheduling, got in and out quick. Dr. Fan was also pretty fantastic and reassuring as well. Cost: they seemed really honest about the coverage. I honestly should've checked myself. Even though my dental+medical insurance should've covered all of it, I ended up paying a LOT out of pocket ~$450. My mother berates me because I paid by credit card right off the bat before figuring out what I really had to pay....ask for a bill and don't be stupid about it like me. All around, love these guys! Glad I picked them. General quick tips unrelated to this practice for wisdom teeth extraction folk: 1. Make sure you have enough ice stocked at home 2. If you nourish well with blended protein, vegetables, healthy fats and fruit (anti-inflammatory diet) instead of ice cream and pudding, you can recover much faster. Despite my incapacitation in pain the first several hours post-op, with some hardcore rest Day 2, I was well enough to be out walking and ballroom dancing 2 days post-op, and rock climbing 3 days post-op. 3. Be smart about payment and insurance coverage. Trust yourself only to make sure these things are covered so you don't end up surprised. read more
